Mine is one of the late 70's models with solid-state pre-amp. For 65 watts this thing is incredibly loud far out-performing many 100 watt amps. It excels at clean sounds, but overdrives well enough for non-heavy music. I also use it as a keyboard amp on occasion and even at half-power it has more than enough volume for club gigs.

As I said it's clean sounds are exceptional. It will suit most styles other than Metal. The Reverb works very well on mine as does the Tremolo. I think you need to have the Master Volume all the way up to get the Reverb to work at maximum. That may be why some others here have complained about it.

Had it almost 30 years without a problem. These are very well-built and reliable. Definitely and under-rated amp on today's market.

I've been playing over 40 years and have other Music Man and Ampeg amps. The Sixty-Five out-performs the 100 and 130 watt Music Man's as well as the V-4's. The Sixty Five has met my needs for almost 30 years so I've never felt the need to look for anything else. These can often be had for around $300 which is a bargain for a tube amp that performs as well as this does.

Dont know what year the amp was made it but it has a utbe preamp to im guessing 74-77. i play, jazz, rock, funk and i can get great tone outa this amp. it has superb clean tone which is what im goind for. it has two channels. i wish it had an fx loop. i used to run all my pedals straight into it but it drained my tone so i had to get an fx loop pedal for true bypass. the reverb sounds great, so does the tremelo. i gig with this amp it has tones of enough power, its has never quit on me

i play a 1981 gibson es-175 and an ibanez SZ320MHWBR thorugh this amp. i run guitar> noise suppressor/ fx loop, (inside the loop is: roto-vibe> cry baby, boss tuner, boss md-2 mega distortion> Ibanez tube screamer> boss octave> boss flanger> digitech synth wah envelop filter.) > boss dd6 digi delay> boss rc 20 loop station/ > amp . suits my stool perfeclty.m it is somtimes noisy but it is from my pedals, buzz gets worse with reverb on, but i have a noise suppressor. you can clean or great tube distortion. not the heaviest distortion but pretty good.

I have the 1974 version with the tube driver (12AX7). Controls of this amp looks very much like FENDER TWIN REVERB (master volume version), but trait sound is differend one.

MUSIC MAN sixty-five reverb is not for beginners! When you have good tone, this amp multiply it, with this stuff you will have special personal tone character. I use head version with Marshall and Mesa/boogie boxes and sound is unreal! This is not for metal fans! If you would like to have strong solid hard-set sound this amp is for you! I prefer combination with Fender vintage style custom shop strat or 1975 limited edition Gibson flying V. Very good link-up = single coil pickup + Cry Baby(use like filter) + Fuzz-face + Music Man + Mesa/boogie 2x12.

I play the guitar for 20 years, I use Mesa/boogie (DC-5 head + box), Fender (Prosonic, Twin reverb), Marshall (JTM-45, SLP 1959) too. But I prefer Mesa/boogie for Jazz and fusion, Music man and Fender Twin reverb when I play blues and rock music.

I have the later version with the solid state pre-amp. More than enough volume, even with the half-power switch engaged. Has everything you need in a single channel amp, no bells and/or whistles. Master volume actually works, which is more than I can say about the Fenders of this period.

Amp warms up nicely at band volumes. I use a Tube Screamer ocassionally for some extra kick. Tremolo sounds good, if you are into that kind of thing. The reverb on mine is COMPLETELY USELESS. Placed on full the signal is bone dry. Shame really, I have a friend with the 150 watt version, and his reverb sounds quite good. Maybe this is only a problem with the 65. I play it through an old Bassman 2 X 15 cab, Gibson SG and a Strat knock-off with a humbucker at the bridge. Not a bad amp for shows, but yes, I have not recorded with it.

I would buy another, but be damn sure the reverb works before buying it. My fault really, I sort of bought it on a lark. I have owned a (silverface) Bassman 135,blackface Bandmaster, and blackface Showman. The clean sound of the blackface Showman was better, but had way too much overhead to spare. If the organic clean/dirty thing is your style, than this is not a bad choice.

Mine was a 77. Two channels. Normal has 2 inputs, gain, treble, mid, bass. Vibrato has 2 inputs, gain, treble, mid, bass, reverb, speed, intensity and master volume. Power (including half power) and standby switches. No switching, loop, or headphone jack. Extra speaker output, ground switch and ungrounded AC outlet in back. It was all one needed back in the day.
I used it for doubling on guitar and bass, mainly at clubs and dinner houses. Plenty of power. In fact, I almost always went on half power to get a nice overdrive. It ran on 2X6CA7 power tubes, with a 12AX7 reverb driver.
Got it with the 212RH-130 cabinet. As you might guess, two 12's rated at 65 watts each in a ported (at bottom) cabinet.

I played vintage 64 Gibson Firebird III (stock mini-humbuckers)into Morley Power Wah Fuzz into 65 Reverb vibrato channel. In the normal channel I ran a 76 Precision Bass. Suited our style just fine (the full gamut from easy listening during dinner time to get down, get funky rock & Top 40 later in the evening).
Leo Fender developed these amps and they were top of the line. Quiet, powerful, headroom galore, but with master volume you could opt to overdrive the preamp to get very tasty sounds. Mr. Tyrrany (previous reviewer) is right. This IS a loud amp.
The tremolo was extremely versatile. When running the speed and intensity on high settings, it would almost work like a doubler on the sound. Reverb was EXCELLENT - as good as any Fender combo. Mr. Tyranny must have had a bad reverb unit on his.
The distortion wasn't the compelling feature on this amp, although I got great OD sounds from it. The fuzz in the Morley gave me enough distortion for what we played.

I've been playing nearly 40 years. Have a Squier Strat, Roland Cube 60, lotsa stompboxes, mikes, stands, etc.
Here's the kicker. The head WAS stolen in about 80. The lowlife family that lived across the street had a son who dealt drugs. One day I was out mowing the lawn and left the garage door open. After I had finished, something didn't look right, but I couldn't figure it out. Later in the day, I DID figure out that the head was gone. I had no proof that he took it, but know the bastard did.
I compared this with a Fender Bandmaster Reverb at the time. Fender had gone to silverface by then. It was nice to have the option of reverb in a piggyback system, but I didn't like the sound as well as the Music Man. Plus, the dealer was having problems moving them, so he sold it at a price slightly under the Bandmaster Reverb.
The 65 Reverb (and speaker system) was a solid choice for a guy in AFM Local 6. I miss that amp.

This is a 70s tube head with reverb, tremelo, bright and deep switch, two channels, though channel 1 is useless. This amp is very loud, but not very versatile. It is too loud for my apartment and almost too loud for practice and stage work! The sound man always tells me to turn down.

I use a 68 SG special which works well with this amp, but other guitars I have tried dont work as well. It is primarily a live amp. It doesnt sound all that good but its loud. The reverb and trem are dissapointing. I usually have the volume on 8 or 9 and the master on 2 0r 3 and its plenty loud. It gives me a kind of semi-dirty tough sound. I only wish the reverb was deeper. I have it on 10 and you can barely tell. The tone controls don't have much effect on the sound, but I think that it is just this amp. I have played others that were more versatile. Also the trem sounds wimpy. Not at all like a fender.

I have had it for over a year and it broke down once. It cost me $50 to repair it, making a grand total of $200 that I paid for it. It has been reliable since the service. I play it hard though and drop the reverb frequently so its probably my fault.

I am looking for something else, but for the time being it does the job. I would love to get a combo because its pretty heavy for a head and my 2/12 fender cab weighs a ton. Until I can find a nice 30-50 watt tube combo with rev and trem for a cheap price I will hang on to it. I am interested in an old fender or a Selmer, but I dont know if anyone has them in the states. I saw Billy Childish use one in the Headcoats in the UK and it sounded great. A nice raw, link wray kind of sound.
