*112e Nashville*

These extension units I believe were originally used for steel Guitar. They are covered with a felty material with a recessed handle on the top. They are large, almost cubed, with semi open backs and two sockets in them. This would allow you to daisy chain them and/or use different wiring setups. Being open backed you haven't got to worry about the Theile equations. Now these type of 112e came originally with 12" Black Widows, but I purhased mine as empty cabinets.

Sound Quality : 10
This is a review for my personal configuration. I have wired the speakers in parallel to both sockets as these are used as extention to a Roland Cube 60 that has a socket for 8 ohms. Therefore I have installed 1 x Celestion G12H and 1 x Celestion G12 Vintage 30 16 ohm's. I am extremely pleased with this set up, especially on the Classic stack setting (Marshall). As the sound is creamy with a nice sparkle to it. This set up will play clean, as my Godin LGX's accoustic pickup would attain to, and dirty through Marshall BB2 + Proco Rat.

Reliability : 10
I don't see how these can go wrong, if you wire them correctly, as the grill is metal lattice.

Why?

Extremely sturdy and goods sounds with my speaker set up. Can't vouch for originals.

This is just an addendum to my review below - the copy arrived from TAD in Germany with no problems other than the AMERICAN company (they wouldn't say who, you'll have to guess, but it shouldn't be too hard) that made it can't follow photos and put the back on upside down - the rest of the cab is very well made and solid pine (they say, probably ply, but what I could see of it peeping into the back to check the impedance of the Celestion G12H has no obvious flaws). I've been caning it for several months and the sound is slightly beefier than the original due to the Celestion which still isn't properly broken in. Worth the money - that's a difficult question as I've just been told about one on ebay (tough, but too late!!!!!), no complaints so far.

Bought it new a few years ago with my first Classic 30. Wouldn't be without it, it rounds out the bottom end of the C30 (closed cab format) beautifully. Main problem is you can't buy them anymore, no doubt a corporate decision based on sales volumes; This is a major pain as I need a second one for my other C30. I can't find one in Europe, so I had to comission a copy from TAD in Germany (NOT cheap for a little box- will cost the skin off my ass but will have G12H celestion, (more on how that works out later, if it ever arrives)). If anyone else wants a copy from them, they (or rather their subcontractor) will already have the dimensions. Other builders could do it no doubt, but I don't know who they are.
I've only given it 8 because it was discontinued too bloody early - even for the Rock Music Industry.

Sound Quality : 10
Play most types of rock/ blues, but not skin flaying death metal - all original stuff. The cab has never missed a beat. Use a variety of hot rodded guitars - Redding Custom Whorl (main guitar), Aria Legends and a thorsound (mostly Seymour Duncan and DM humbuckers with splits) and a Les Paul Studio with Harmonic Design humbucker sized P90s. The cab complements the bottom end of all of these and never gets muddy - nice and tight and no flappy wibbling with the original speaker - Celestion G12H later (see above).

Reliability : 10
No probs at all, comfyish seat too (see below)!

Never needed it, never want to need it.

Been playing gigs off and on for - eerrrmm, lessee, 35 yearsish but not pro.
I also have a 1976 Marshall 50 MV combo with ear bleeding attachment and Greenbacks that uses valves almost as fast as the Pervey whilst contravening most strategic arms limitation treaties - not for the bedroom (incidentally, the C30 can be made to sound almost the same wiv the right valves, but it takes a while, but not too long due to the aforementioned valve consumption rate) and a Rocktron Voodoo valve that I use in stereo through the FX loops of the two C30s. The Rocktron makes ALL other amps redundant, but I keep the Marshall in case someone breaks in and I have to kill them without obvious signs of violence while simultaneously alerting the neighbours.
I chose it along with the Classic 30 because the sensible guys in the music shop I patronise (sic) know that, if they let me compare lotsa gear at home (with a Trace Elliot and a Hot Rod Deville in this case) and in the rehearsal studio with the band in my own time, eventually they can turn me upside down and empty my pockets out - no mean feat; the C30 is a beaut and responds very well to toob tweeking, so it was no contest AND I eventually bought a second one for the rehearsal room.
I would have liked the cab to have had a second output jack and a little plaid cushion on the top for my fat arse, but this is just nit picking, it's really gear and fab (wot?).
If it were stolen, I would be really in the shit as it isn't made any more (grrrr, snarl) (see whinging, garment renting and wrist slitting above).

Excellent cab. Very versatile, goes from hard rock to country, no prob. Clean the amp up and mic THIS cab and get excellent smooth jazz tone.

Sound Quality : 10
Using Standard US Strat, Clapton Strat, Epi Riviera, Fender Tele, and Gibson Les Paul. This little cab sounds great no matter which guitar I play through it, but it truly SHINES with the Les Paul or Riviera (Humbuckers).

Reliability : 10
This is a Peavey. There may be better quality units out there, but not for the price (maybe double the price). And the reliabiltiy...well it's Peavey...'nuff sed. You can drag this Peavey equipment BEHIND the truck on the way to the gig and it still performs flawlessly.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never dealt with them.

I've been playing for 39 years. I own and have owned a pot-load of gear. It this cab were lost or stolen, I would be on eBay in a flash trying to replace it. The tone is excellent, projection is SUPER with the back left on (it sounds like more than one 12" speaker). It fits in my truck cab I can make it sound like a Marshall stack or a Fender Twin, I just can't say enough about this little cab, except try one for yourself...but don't run the eBay price up too much, I may need another one!

I give it a ten because it's convertible to an open back.

This cab is wonderfully engineered. I swear the bass response you get out of it rivals a 4x12. Mine came stock with the Sheffield 75 watt speaker which wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything revolutionary either. I swapped it out with a Mesa/Boogie Vintage Black Shadow 50 watt speaker to match the Boogie head that I bought this for and the difference was huge. So, stock speaker i give this cab an 8, my modded version gets a 10.

Reliability : 10
No problems. Its a Peavey, they build great gear.

I play a jackson with a duncan JB in the bridge into a Mesa/Boogie .22 caliber head into this cab and a classic 410e extension cab (not simultaniously). I've had this cab for 3 years and I like it so much that I picked up a used 410e a few months ago to have a bigger cab to play through. Both cabs are great and I use them pretty much equallly with my boogie.

1 feature here... removable back. 12" speaker, 1/4" input jack. gonna give it a 2, but why would you need features in an ext cab?

Sound Quality : 9
sounds great. i have her hooked up to my Peavey Classic 30. I put a Celestion Greenback in my C30, and moved the stock speaker (Blue Marvel) into the 112E. Stacked them up for a nice tweed mini-stack... I keep the back on and it makes my C30 sound like a half stack. Fills out the sound wonderfully and adds some volume to an already beastly loud amp! (the C30 has volume knob that goes from 1 to 12! ever seen spinal tap?) Good tone, lethal combo with the Classic 30.

Reliability : 9
what could go wrong? there are two wires. positive and negative.

They don't make these anymore, and I consider myself very lucky to own one. Part of my matching set (with the Classic 30). Anyone that owns a C30 should own one of these. I also opted for JJ tubes and a Greenback. Coming soon... a Fish&Chips EQ pedal for the effects loop. (i realize there is alot of Classic 30 review in here, but that is neccessary since without it, the 112E would not make any sounds at all.)

Tweed covered 1x12 cabinet with ox-blood grill, fitted with a Sheffield 1290 speaker & one 16ohm input.

Sound Quality : 10
this is one great cabinet to have, i use it with the Classic 30 & get a great sound for a small to medium venue. One thing though is i changed out the sheffield for a Vintage 30 which increased the volume (100dB compared to the Sheffields 96dB) sound difference makes a good thing even better! Now with the 112e my classic 30 sounds louder than a stock 50 watter!

Reliability : 8
Mine is a 96 model, which i bought along with my Classic 30. Has handled my playing now for 3 years no problem. It is a particle board box though so don't throwing it! thats why im taking points off here

Never had a drama dealing with Peavey, i have always had quick replies & good answers

For what this is, if you can find one that is, it's great value and works good with any amp

I found one of these on the Music-Go-Round site . . . purely by luck as they had it labeled incorrectly. He-He . . . Anyway, these are HARD to find . . . Peavey stopped making them in '99 . . . I've left some feedback on the Peavey website (along with many other people!) about re-introducing extension cabs that match the popular "Classic" series amps. This is a 1996 tweed 12" extension cab with Peavey "Sheffield" 12" (16 Ohm) speaker . . . physical size same as the Classic 30. Will work with just about anything . . just plug it in . . .

Sound Quality : 10
Fender Mexican Strat - Vintage Style with Custom Shop '54 pick-ups and a 2001 Classic 30. Also running an Ibanez Tube King, Turbo Rat and Boss DD3 Delay. When coupled with the Classic 30, the 112E transforms this rig into a real tone monster. The bottom end rounds out nicely . . . seperate the cabs about 4 - 5 feet and you get this great surround effect. The closed back cab really adds the missing dimension . . . and thats not to say that the Classic 30 is not a great amp standing alone, (volumes have been written about that - see HC reviews!) it's just that much better with this cab. Much more volume . . . plus it quieted down my C30 when its really cranked. This is the PERFECT set-up for a small to medium size club. Highly recommended for Blues and straight ahead R 'n Roll. For what its designed to do, the 112E is a keeper.

Reliability : 10
Its a PEAVEY . . . it'll probably outlive me!

Customer Support : 10
Can't say enough about the friendly, responsive folks down in Meridian . . . they respond to questions. Probably the best in the business . . . Peavey gets dissed unmercifully by some . . . I've owned a bunch of their gear . . . its well made, reliable, they back it up, and it doesn't cost a fortune. Bang it, beat it, drop it, turn it up . . . and it usually goes like the Energizer Bunny.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing off and on for 32 years . . . owned too many guitars and amps . . . and effects . . . and on and on. I'd have to say that this, along with my '67 Blackface Vibrolux are the two best rigs I've ever had. The C30 coupled with the 112E is an incredible bargain . . about $500 total. If you re-tube the C30, and drop a Celestion V30 into the 112E, you have an awesome rig that sounds like you've got $2500 in it . . . I antiqued both my cabs . . . pulled off the Peavey logos . . . and it looks like I'm playing through twin tweed '54 Fender Super Amps . . . The guys I play with can't believe what the 112E did for my sound . . . If you can find one - BUY IT!! Your Classic 30 will become a mini-stack with plenty of great tone and good looks. My search has ended . . . I'm happy with the TONE! Highly recommended. NOW . . . lets go BUY SOME GUITARS!!
