Peavey 412MS

4x12 guitar cab with front-loaded 16ohm Sheffield 1290 speakers. You can run it Mono @ 16ohm 300watt RMS or Stereo @ 8ohm 150watt x2 RMS. I believe the dimensions are 29"x29"x11"(? not sure on the last measurement). 1" thick plywood construction (except for the back panel, it looked like particle board). Recessed handles, non-removable casters, butt jointed, no dado joints. Gets a little higher rating for having stereo.

I was running a Carvin X100b head to this cab. I play punk/metal/thrash but I don't drop out the mids which is the problem to me with this cab. Sounds great with scooped mids, although the bass is a little farty and the highs got shrill. Cab made a lot of noise for me. Someone hooked up their Peavey XXX 212 combo and it was a completely different cab. He scooped his mids and the speakers responded a lot better to the "broken bottle dragging over concrete" fizz distortion that Peavey amps are known for. I guess Peavey amps pair up nicely with Peavey cabs, go figure. Gets an extra point for sounding okay with the XXX.

Very sturdy cab, had absolutely no problems gigging with it.

I've been playing going on 10 years, gigging for the last 6 or 7. This cab just wasn't for me, I'm sure if I had replaced even just two of the speakers it would have suited me fine but I didn't want to drop any more money into it. I sold it to the dude with the XXX (who LOVED the cab) and I moved on.

4x12, sheffield speakers, 16ohms mono or 8ohms per side stereo. metal grill instead of cloth on front. made in the early 90s as far as i can tell.

when my band went on tour this summer, i found myself thinking that my 'sound" was missing something (though i didn't know what). i play a Epi SG with a Phat Cat P90 in the neck and a Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge. that runs through a tune, noise gate, Small Stone chorus, and a Boss PS-5 before hitting my modded Peavey TripleXXX (EH 12ax7 preamp tubes and SED "Winged C" 6l6 power tubes). all that was going into my TripleXXX slant cab. it sounded close, but not quite there. when we got home, i decided, for laughs, to try this old cab i used to use years ago before i knew what i wanted or what i was doing tone-wise. WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! the XXX cab couldn't get the warm round mids or crisp (but not piercing) highs this cab does. it makes me sound *almost* like i'm playing through an Orange (which is the goal). until i have 5 grand to spend on an orange halfstack, this should keep me happy.

it does not, however, have the volume that the TripleXXX cab does. comparatively, it's like my master volume stops at 7 with this cab. the TripleXXX is louder than hell anyway, so it works out for me. it's also not quite as clean sounding, but i don't want it to be, so again it works out in my case.

i played this cab for the first 2 years i was in my band with no problems. the shitty Transtube head i had died long before this cab did! all the casters have been replaced, and the tolex is in bad shape, but it still sounds amazing. the cosmetic "imperfections" just end up looking cool anyway. insta-cred!

Peavey....it works til it doesn't. never called support. never had to.

i and the other guitar player in my band use a 412ms slant cab now (his is paired with a Bassman and a Mig 50), and we love them. for a big dirty dark stoner rock sound (Bongzilla, Kyuss, etc), this is good cab to look at. contrary to what a lot of people on here have said, the cab makes a HUGE impact on how your rig sounds. remember, your signal chain is only as strong as it's weakest component!

This cab is fairly versatile, it sounds a lot like the Marshall 1960 cabs if you took one and dipped it in a pool of hot melted iron!

Semi-shimmering highs which cut through the mix nicely without clipping easily, plenty of mids if you like them (I personally hate mids, so I usually scoop them down on my head just enough to give it some flavor), and low end like you wouldn't believe.

I'm running this thing through two guitars, a Fender American Corona California Standard Stratocaster, and a Fender Mexican Fat Strat, and a Marshall JCM 2000 Dual Super Lead head. The cleans are as clear at level 6 as they are at level 0.5, and if you're playing a venue where you need that head up higher than level 6 with this cab, you'd better be playing a venue big enough that you need to mic your amp and run it through the $20,000 PA system. If you turn it up past 6, there is a little distortion in the clean channel, but for 200 bucks, what do you expect?

The distortion... ohh the distortion. I've been playing for a Hardcore / Metal band with it and it sounds just as good as the bands using Mesa Dual Recs with Mesa 4x12 Cabs. It suits that style perfectly, but I also play a lot more music on the Screamo side of Hardcore and it suits that style perfectly as well.

Noisiness - I haven't had any problems with it being noisy, but high end Marshall heads rarely are, and cabs can't make noise by themselves. :)

I've never needed a backup cab, and I never will. The tolex on this beast is shredded due to lack of space in the van, its upholstery has definitely seen its better days, but the wood itself is still flawless (trust me, I can see most of it haha).

I'm not sure what type of wood they used to make this cab, but its probably around two inches thick. Not quite as thick as the new Orange cabs, but not far off, and definitely just ast sturdy. I don't see this cab crapping out on me anytime soon.

Oh and the speakers just sound better as they get more and more broken in, but I'm sure you've read that in another review already.

I've been playing guitar for 6 years now and I've owned plenty of amp combos, heads, and cabinets. Right now I own two half stacks - the Marshall JCM 2000DSL / Peavey MS cab, and a Vintage Peavey VTM 120 Head / "Thundercabs" Custom Cabinet with two 12" Emminence Blackpowder speakers. Two Fender Stratocasters - an American Corona California Series Standard, and a Mexican Fat Strat.

If this cab were stolen or lost, I'd steal it back, then steal the guy's slant version of this one cause I know that's why he stole it. Anyone got a slant version they'd sell me?

I love the fact that this cab suits my needs perfectly, and hasn't let me down yet. I hate that I don't have the slant version to go along with it, and I hate that they stopped making these cabs, but all good things must come to an end, right?

I compared this cab to my Thundercabs Custom Cab, and the low end was wayyyyy better. The highs weren't quite as shimmmery, but they don't clip out as easily in the mix and live they don't get in the way of the cymbals or vocals. Same deal with the Marshall 1960 cabs. I also compared this cab to a standard Mesa 4x12 Rectifier cab and to my surprise I liked mine better. The Mesa cab almost sounded muffled compared to the punch mine delivers at the same volume on my head. The only cab I would get over this one that I think is worth the price are the Mesa Stilleto series cabs. They're built like an Orange cab, and have some kind of special speakers in them that emulate every sound you could ever want. Not sure how durable they are though, or the handling of the speakers, but they do sound a great deal better than any other cab I've ever heard.

i bought this peavey 412-ms cab loaded with these g12k-85's. this is a stereo/mono cab that i wired for mono 16ohm operation.

this cab with the sheff. speakers is darker sounding than the marshall or mesa cabs. i like the tone they produce. being a pro. guitarist i use a marshall and a peavey vtm 120 with an effects rack. i also use humbucker loaded guitars and strats.

never had any probs. on the road. if i do, my tech fixxes it.

never dealt with them myself.

to all you weenies whining that this cab sucks, this cab will out power all but the big basson and marshall mode cabs rated at 400 watts. and this one sounds better. get better heads to use,,this cab sounds great. if you dig bass response, this is a winner. i been playing 30 years. betcha can`t guess who i am. alot of you have probably heard me. later,,keep on pickin....

16 ohm mono, 83C model, loaded with Celestions, built like a brick sh@t house, I have the marshall's 1960's these older PV cabs are built much better!!!!!! but stupid heavy, when it was shipped is weighed over 100lbs, thats with packing,

Slant cab, mono/stereo inputs, rough Peavey style tolex, metal grill, front loaded sheffield speakers. Heavy. just about all the features you could have on a 4x12 cab

I have two of these. Saw used in the store and thought it sounded really good. About two years later I bought another. I play mostly progressive/metal. Currently going through Peavey 6505 head and an old Charvel. They sound really good. Really good bottom end and good sound distorted or clean, I also have a Mesa Rectifier cab and I compared them side by side. I think the Mesa cab sounds a little better. But thats it. Just a little. Consider the price( I paid $200 for each and your lucky if you can find a used mesa cab for less than $550!) that's a big difference for just a little better.

Heavy and well built. Don't know what year. but at least 15 years old. I totally trust this cab.

I've been playing for over 20 years. I have owned a Marshall JCM900 head and two cabs before. I own 2 of these peavey cabs and i really like them. I recommend them all the time. The price used is great. I don't really like the half round handles. They kind of hurt the hands if you are lifting by yourself. The tolex is tough stuff. I also own a Mesa Rectifier cab. It does sound a little better to me. But the peavey sounds better than most.

this cab i know is within 5 years old (2000 - 2005)

I am unsure of the wattage hndling, and am going to look into that, but handles my vampire 100 watt great
there are nice casters on mine, its pretty heavy so it helps

im currently playing a schector gryphon with a dimarzio evolution, and a vintage american strat through this. This is great for any style really, and sounds great with distortion. i havnt cranked my amp on it because my ears start to hurt when its about 3/4 of the volume but it is not muddy at all at those volumes, although i thought it would be.
clean sound is pretty amazing, like others say when the volume is cranked on a clean channel it does not give off any distorted tones.
this cab is has a lot of bass which is cool.

been wanting to hook my amp up to a cab, and i am glad i got this one. i cant compare it with others because i have no experience with them, but if you can find these cheap, i would recommend getting one.

4X12 stereo mono 8/16 (very versatile for a guitar cab) two jacks, one for mono and a second one for stereo. most guitar cabs don't have mono/stereo switches.

this thing has good TONE. this is the older one that was made to go with the butcher, its got the sheffield 1290's and the diamond metal grill.1 inch plywood all the way around, HEAVY as hell.

i compared it to a wiggy cab because thats the amp I have, and i got this for a second cab. the wiggy cab has much better high and mid but the 412 MS has beef, and its high mids are a little more mellow, like a marshall or mesa with the paper grill cloth, but this one doesn't have grill cloth. i imagine it would sound exactly like a mesa/marshall if it had paper grill cloth on it.

the clean sound is rich, i played 6 string guitar and bass through it one after the other, you can actually turn the amp up to 10 and the cab does not bark even with a bass running through it.

people think this cab does not stand up to marshall/mesa haven't worked in a music store selling those damn things for as long as i did. i demo'd mesa and marshall every day, and i know EXACTLY what they all sound like. practical experience here pal. these 412ms cabs sound way better than any other peavey cab fit with their black widows.

its peavey, its built like a tank. it's got 1 inch plywood all the way around, not 5/8 or 3/4 like some other cabs.
its HEAVY as hell, the casters are gone, so i have to carry it.

i pushed these speakers with a bass guitar and the amp cranked as loud as it would go (100 watts) and the speakers never waffled once.
i also experimented briefly with impedance mismatching and they still did not sound bad.

never had it, never needed it never used it.

i love this cab. i think it sounds like the old small box mesa/boogie cabs with metal grills on the front (not the mesa engineering monsters everyone is buying today, the OLD ones.)
if i see another one used, im buying it and reselling it for more money. all guitar players on a budget should look for one of these on ebay. its worth the shipping to get this kind of good loud tone for the money.

Peavey 412ms slant with 4 16ohm Sheffield 1290 speakers in 16ohm mono or 8ohm stereo. I own 2 of these suckers, one is from the mid 90's with the old zigzag logo and the other I bought in 2002. I actually believe this is rated at 320 watts handling.

O.K. guys, here's the thing, I've heard some of you bash the sound of these cabs and all I can tell you is my own experience which is...these things get the job done well for the money. I've never been big on Peavey stuff, I've previosly owned the Supreme 160 head and the Ultra Plus tube head and hated both...the Ultra had alright tone but it was noisy. I play a hybrid metal kind of style...a mix of rock and metal with tone in the realm of Korn/Slipknot/Linkin Park/Pillar. I use a Jackson Dinky with EMG-81's, and a 2003 Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier. I have pounded the crap out of these speakers and haven't blown one yet. They handle a lot of watts. I have taken my Mesa head, set it on top of a Marshall 1960, a Recto cab and the Peavey and played my usual settings and I heard only a slight difference...the Mashall and Recto seemed SLIGHTLY more sparkly in the high end...a difference which was not significant enough to shell out the extra cash for the name brand stuff. I run my Mesa at about the 12 oclock position so I assume that's about half. This cab sounds fine...I gig frequently and as long as your head is set right, it blends nicely with the band. They seem to sound better at higher volumes. I also hear the speakers sound better the more worn in they are.

The older cab has been abused and I still gig with it weekly, without a back-up the only thing that has given out is the casters....getting kind of like an old shopping cart...time to replace but overall this thing is tough.

Apparently, they don't make this cab anymore. Knowing this now, I probably will never sell them. They're too much bang for the buck. I actually get a kick out of gigging with it and people see I get great tone with a Peavey. I've been playing guitar for 10 years and if it were stolen....ehh, I wouldn't HAVE to buy another but I would be sad that I would actually have to spend the money to get a Recto or something when the Peavey does just as well. Actually, when you compare the specs of a Recto cab and this one, they are very close. I'm pretty dang picky about guitar tone, and this is great. Your head just needs to have enough balls to drive it.

Well, it's big, it's heavy, it's solid. Stereo select on it is handy. Would have given it a 10, but it was lacking a beverage holder.

I bought it new, and forgot that you tend to need to break speakers in before you get their true tone. A lot of people judge a cab from the first week of using it. When I first got the cab, it sounded very harsh. Very midsy, lack of bottom end definition and a terrible high end. I thought it was my amp. 2 months later I noticed it sounded quite a bit better. The more I used it, the better it sounded. After nearly 4 years of owning this cab, I can say I've never played with a better sounding cab. My highs are absolutely amazing, the mids are solid, the low end... wow. Can push it out and STILL keep it punchy and defined. I play mainly Death/Thrash metal, but the cab can pull off ANY style. I originally was using an old mid 80's Yamaha head with it and a pile of stompboxes, but got a Peavey 5150 II a couple of years ago and the cab sounds better than the 5150 Cabs. LOVE the tone of this thing.

Have never experienced any problems with it except slight hearing loss after jamming with the band for a few hours. Have dragged it out to many gigs and lent it out at the shows to other bands. The thing is bullet proof and refuses to pop a speaker.

I've been playing guitar for over 16 years now and have had a pile of different amps/cabs. If this thing was ever stolen, I would find the bugger who stole it and beat him severly. I would DEFINATLEY buy another one and am currently on the hunt for a bottom cab. I would love Peavey to bring this model back to life. It destroys those scratchy annoying celestion equipped crap cabs.

Solid handles, casters, and I like the metal grill on front. I bought mine last year, new. 16 ohms mono, 8 ohms stereo. I run mine mono.

I'm running a Gibson Les Paul Std through a Genz Benz El Diablo head. Sounds wonderful. Seems to have a nicely balanced sound through the frequency range, with no lack of bass response. Loud? Hell yes!

I've owned a lot of Peavey stuff, and one thing is for sure,... it is reliable.

Like I said, Peavey stuff is reliable. Never had to call 'em.

I've been playing guitar for over 15 yrs. I own a few guitars, drums, bass, keyboard, ... lots a' stuff. I bought this cab with a Peavey XXL head about a year ago. I didn't care much for the tone of the XXL head, so I traded it in on the Genz Benz recently, which sounds like another world. (a better one... ,as in heaven) I've never had a problem with the cab, and I think it sounds quite good. It can definitely push out some bass, and seems to also handle upper frequencies clearly. Probably not as "sparkly" in the upper ranges as some other cabs, but then they probably lose some bass response next to this one. If you are playing palm muted power chords, you need bass response, and this gives it.

I like the handles and the wheels....makes it easy to load into my Pinto

I hooked my Hondo II guitar into my Squier amp and ran speaker wire from the back of the amp into the Peavey cab. I was a little dissapointed with the sound...Tinny and brittle with a harsh rasping buzzing noise..it gets worse when I play my guitar close to the television....I tried a different cord but that didn't make much difference....

the cab is really heavy and built to last.....it looks cool too..I would take it on tour...My band played for the grand opening of a Church's fried chicken and I accidentally spilled a coke all over the grill and speakers....it sounds a little better now...

I tried to call Peavey but I forgot that my phone was disconnected cause my stupid roomate ran up the bill calling his dumn ass girlfriend in Alaska.

I've been playing guitar for about a year now and just got my guitar out of the pawnshop, so actually I played it about a few months I guess. If it was lost or stolen I'd probably take up another instument like harmonica or something. I love the fact that Eddie Van Halen uses my exact set-up....I wish it came with an instructional book or something so I would know what the switches on the back were for....

One of the last years that these were produced, 300watts mono or 150 a side stereo 16 or 8 ohms. I think. Plug amp into it and play really. I don't think cabs should really get a feature rating.

Drool. I absolutely love this cab. It was first abused with a Randall head that was heavily modified. The only thing left on it that was randall was the knobs and the case really. It souded great with my 400watt solid state monster of distortion head. Then I grew up. I got a Laney VH100R, and placed it onto this Peavey cab. Yay! There aren't really many words that describe how great this combonation sounds with virtually any guitar other than a telecaster (way too twangy, teles need low wattage tube combos too sound good).

It handles the power from the Laney quite well (100watt tube) and really gets a good clean punch to it.

Short of throwing it off a bridge or leaving it in the shower I don't forsee anything going wrong with this cab. It is built extremely well. Many a show has been played with it, and it has been abused through many a rigorous heavy metal practice routine. Then I take the same combo and bring it into a blues rock or country situation, use a different guitar and it plays just as well.

Like the guy below me, I want the straight cab to match with this slant. I love it, and I can't live without this cab. After close scrutiny, the 412MS is actually the same cab as the 5150, it just doesn't have the 5150 logo on it (and it was $150 cheaper back in the day). If stolen I would cry, because I think it might start to get kind of hard to track these cabs down. The newer version of this model doesn't seem to be as nice.

This is one of the most underated speaker cabinets you can buy.

4X12 Sheffield 1290s. Stereo/Mono 300+watts

Since I was a child, I have always dreamed of getting that serious hardrock/heavy metal sound. It came true when I bought this thing along with my Hafler G300 (check my review on that to) and my Boss GX-700 (after the cab and amp, I didn't have much $ left over). I must say to all those who complained about the sound, try getting an amp that can push more than a set of headphones. Ya, it takes a little power to push these things, but the sound is awsome and LOUD! And shame on all who have tried run a Marshall amp through one of these cabs. Marshall has good shtuff to, but it's just plain sacralidge! It's like putting a Toyota engine in a Caddy. Brits don't know power. This blew the Marshall 1960 and Crate cabs away!

With the metal grill, I don't expect a beer bottle to penetrate it. And, if it can support my fat a$$ or my Hafler G300, I can't see anything going wrong soon.

Havent had to deal with them, but I'm sure they're nice people.

I've been playing for 12+ years as a guitar player, 18 as a keyboardist, so the only thing I don't like about this is Peavey stopped producing these. If you have, or know someone who wants to be eliviated of the straight cab, please contact me via email.

I first bought it to run through my Peavey Duel 212 and man it was killer rock. Really loud and clear. I then picked up a JCM800 2205 50W head and same thing. I love these cabs it is my second one and they both rock. I just came out of the studio and the Engineer couldn't believe the sound we were getting from my setup. Just plug and play.

I treat my gear pretty good so I don't really have any gripes.

I would probably get another one if it were stollen ( I am not sure how anyone would steel it it's pretty big). I am a fan of peavey products from my first Peavey 65 Bandit, Peavey RockMaster Preamp, Peavey Duel 212 and 2 4x12 cabs. They are the working mans rig!

I believe this is a late '80's or early '90's 4-12 cab that was mated with a Butcher head. I bought this for my son who purchased a Roadmaster 160 watt head for his metal band. We decided the roadmaster had a better clean sound than the butcher and was much louder. He used a V-Twin mesa overdrive for distortion. The cab has 4 celestion 85 watt speakers and is 16ohms with a daisy chain out for another cab. It has gold piping and the old gold peavy logo.In perfect condition and was purchased along with the head for $399.00. Great value! The head alone is worth that!

I'm writing this review because i feel peavy has gotten a bad wrap.We recently purchased a TSL 100 head to replace the Roadmaster because the roadmaster didn't carry the distortion with as much definition or clarity as he would have liked, but is awesome for more blues or rock oriented music.( real tube sound) and because the TSL kicks! I started looking at Marshall cabs and found their construction sucks compared to this Peavy! Beaverboard back sucks all the projection and bass from the Marshall 1960 cabs, and the 75 watt celestion sound too brittle and trebly for good defined riffing. If you buy or have one of these 1960 Marshall cabs, go to a lumber yard and buy 3/4" birch plywood for the back, paint it black and install using extra screws. The difference will be phenominal! also the 70 watt celestions are much better for bass responce.This peavy is all birch plywood and transfers articulate bass responce fantastically! Speakers are balanced for highs and lows and doesn't "fart out" in low registers.My son tunes down to C# ! For the money, this cab is a great deal and sounds fantastic.Not a rectifier cab, but WAY better than the new Marshalls.7 out of 10 because there are much better cabs out there but for ALOT more money!Would like to hear this with 4 EV12's!

All cabs are reliable as long as you don't drive them beyond their rating. I own a Mesa Mark 3 hardwood head with 2 Thiele Hardwood 1-12 cabs with EV 200 watt speakers. I know what a good rig can sound like at high volumes, and this cab is a great deal as they can be found for much less than their quality should command because of the logo on the front! Whats in a name anyway? Marshalls look great but looks can be decieving!I also want to mention the covering. This stuff looks like automotive undercoating! Not a tear in it and is probably 15 years old!Look at any Marshall after 1 year and it looks like you towed it to every gig! The tolex on them( and many other brands) rip if you look at them funny!This covering can only be outdone by Rhino coat! Quality casters too.

It's a Frickin' cab. You plug your amp into it and you can switch between stero & mono. Whippdee frikin' doo.
4 X 12 Crapfield speakers. 300 watts (allegedly) 150watts per side.

I've played 3 different amps through this cab. A crate (sucks), A marshall JCM 800 (Great!) and a Peavey Classic 50 (also great!) Anyways. I don't mean to knock this cab so hard, it's just not my style. It took me 3 years of mixing and matching guitars and amps to realize that the cab is the problem. This thing sounds dandy when I'm practicing by myself. In fact I love the sound when I'm by myself. However, in a band situation, This cab turns into the shy little school boy that hides in the closet after he pees his pants. It just doesn't have the balls to compete in a live situation and thats why it pisses me off. I said I love the sound when I play alone, right? Well who in the hell goes out and buys a 4x12 PRACTICE AMP! This is the perfect example of "You get what you pay for" I got it for cheap, and it acts cheap. I've learned my lesson and will soon be the proud recipient of a Mesa Recto 4x12 or Marshall 1960 vintage 4x12 soon. Yes both are 4x more expensive than the Peavey. But it's an investment in GREAT equipment. Which the PEAVEY is not.

Had it for quite a while. It's been beat to hell and back and it still works.

This is a very straight forward cab. It has stereo inputs and is three hundred watta of sledge hammer tone.

I use a variety of guitars through my set up of a peavey rockmaster and tubeworks rt-922 preamps. I power my rig with a five hundred watt
tubeworks mos-fet power amp. The main six-string instrument of destruction is a modified 70's yamaha sg-700 with a seymour 59 in the bridge. (one pickup, one volume) I'll tell you about the amp in a sec.

I've pushed one of these cabs down a set of stairs that by my recollection was about 20-25 steps. Wheel broke, who cares. I did this in the montreal metro (subway) Just wanted to see what would happen. At the next gig in troise Riveire quebec fired it up and crushed a crowd. no problem

Im not sure when the cab was made but Id guess mid 90's.
300 watts mono at 16 ohms, 150 watts per side(stereo)at 8 ohms.
How many features can a cab. have?

I use a digitech 2120 vgs artist pre-amp into a peavey 50/50 all tube stereo power amp. My main guitar is an Ibanez RG470 W/inf. PU's.
I noticed that alot of reveiwers said that this cab sounded brittle or farty when playing "metal". First off I want to say that Ive gone through sooo much gear looking for the right sound and have determined that ALMOST any amp will give you the sound you want,EX.
a fender wont play "nu-metal" and a marshall wont get too clean but for the most part all ya gotta do is KNOW HOW TO TURN YOUR FRIGGIN KNOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats what theyre there for a in most cases they work. Now as for all you stinkin "nu-metal" heads that have only been playing for 0.5-1.5 years, or all you drummers that think that you can also be guitar players, TURN THE GAIN DOWN, this is the num.1
reason why your sound will "fart". Second of all if your sound is too harsh DONT TURN UP THE BASS, instead turn down your treble or presence and turn up the volume. Even though your gear may sound good on 1, It wont sound the same on 7(volume wise). If you dont think that your amp has enough sustain for trills(hammer-ons)than get some chops(playing skills. Too many players hide behind gobs of gain and bass while lackking skill as a player, this is the reason why there is sooooooo much bad music today.Dont get me wrong thogh I play in a true metal-core band, not like slipknut or mushroombutt, but in the style of god forbid,prayer for cleansing, and embodyment...........
The cabinet sounds great though I would rather have Vin30's, the sheffields are VERY nice for a VERY nice price.

I bought this used and It looks like it has fallen down a few flights of stairs and landed in a pool of urine before it was set on fireand dragged throgh a gravel quarry. I know plenty of guys that play REAL loud (as well as me) who gig with these thing night after night with no prob.

This cab is great. If my speakers blew when I had the impedance matched, then Id complain a little, but if you miss match it and treat your gear bad than its your own fault. No cab sounds the same. If your used to celestions and then get this, dont say that it sucks right away,instead do a little tweaking on your amp and get it to sound how you want it to, if you cant do it then the cab isnt for you. Let your ears be the judge. I like this cab.
P.S. I am a 17 year old kid so dont think that just becuase sombody is young an likes heavey stuff, that means that they dont know what good tone is.....My fav. is journeys tone but I love mid-scooped(not too much)power thrash as well. God Bless and Good-Bye.

Using it with An Ibanez RG320 and Gax70. The cab runs through a Peavey Ultra Plus head. The peavey cabs sound the best with Peavey heads. SOunds great for what I need it for.

Its built like all Peaveys stuff, solid. The metal grill is great, better than clothe on the front.

Never dealt with them but there website is one of the best for help along with their forums.

This cab is just what I wanted to go with my Pevaey Ultra PLus head. If I would have seen a 5150 cab for the same price I may have got it instead. The two sound different and you have to let your ears be the judge, but this one was a steal for the price I got it.

Cab has 4x12's and is stereo wired if you should need that. Has casters for mobility and recessed handles are good. I wish they used bigger wheels though... gets 'stuck' at times in carpeting. Has metal lathe type protective grill. Speakers are front loaded and are not accessable from the rear.

I just purchased a brand new Peavey Triple X anp head and wanted a matching 4x12 bottom to run it through. I did not have much of an opportunity to try alot of different cabs as I live in somewhat of a remote area. I really was bouncing back and forth between a 412MS and a 5150 cab and after reading tons of reviews between them I seemed to see a slight preference for the 5150 but in my book-not enough to justify the the price increase just cuz EVH is attached to the product. So I opened my new 412MS and unplugged my old home-made 2x12 Emminence cab and fired it up. Yuk! The brittle buzzy tone was so bad that I truley thought there was a damaged speaker. After further review...that wasn't the case. I was sick... I made some calls and did further research on these Sheffield 1290s that are in here and found a couple of remarks by some veteran owners that these speakers need to be 'broke in'. Well I did notice that when I cranked them louder the buzzing or rattle sound disappears some and now that I have owned it for about a month, I must concede that the tone is improving some. Others have stated that it will take some time before it loosens up and gives better tone and I hope thats the case...

I haven't taken it out of my basement yet so I can't really say anything about durability... I have pushed it pretty hard several times and I haven't had the bad luck the previous reporter had that keeps blowing speakers!

Peavey is well represented and I never had a real issue with them.

Have been playing since 1976 and have had many a amplifier. I never really heard of speakers needing to loosen up before, but there seems to be something to this speaker that makes it true for the tone is improving much better. By the way, the buzzing was only noticable when playing distorted tones. Clean was O.K. Don't know if I could call myself a 'Sheffield' fan and I wish Peavey would offer their cabs with proven well desired name brand speakers. This would probably drive the price up some, but would at least give the price option to those ears who thinks it makes a difference.

well... its just a 4x12 cab, not too much that can make this ugly (unlike the new twiggy cabs...)... thank god, i have one with a new peavey symbol, not the god awful zig-zaggy logo.

Sounds pretty good, at least with a classic 100 head. Handles good at higher volumes (even if some of the peavey amps dont), and has a nice bottom end.

Never had a problem with it.

Ive had this cab for 3 years, and ive never had a problem with it before. Hopefully, i never will.

Your basic stereo/mono optioned 4x12 speaker cab

In my experience with this, I don't know how anyone can like this cab. I initially bought it to go with an old marshall 100w that was sitiing in my closet for years that I finally had modded and decided to use. The reason for this is that I've been away from guitar playing for a number of years and got back into it and rehauled my old stuff plus indulged in getting new guitars and amps. I figured heck, speakers are speakers, so I got this new at a reduced price because of a shipping dink. I plug in and am assaulted with not much else besides a very harsh, brittle, raspy, icepick trebly, un-smooth breakup. After about an hour and a half, two speakers blow. Take it in for warranty. Again, after about a hours playing through it, two blow again. More warranty replacement. Service techs say this happens alot....... cheap speakers. For the third time, I play with it. (By this time I've purchased a DSL 100). The sound from either amps is a wee tad smoother but not by a long shot. I finally give in from the "what can I get for the cheapest amount of money" mentality. I do this with some purchases.....speakers had fallen into that category for me. So I'm sayin to myself..."screw this, I'm getting a Marshall cab." I bring it home, try out both amps with it and the difference was literally night and day. Out of those speakers came the most outrageous unbelievable hard rock/metal sounds that I couldn't believe it. Smooth and ballsy.
You know if you play your amp clean just at the point of distortion and then when you lean into the strings you should get a real nice tone? Well, with the peavey cab, I would get just a god-awful harsh farty tone. Extremely unpleasant sounding. Mere words cannot define how bad these speakers sound. It isn't even a matter of....."its rock and roll...just plug in and make noise." No, these speakers are hideous sounding. But there you go, same amps, same guitars and they all sing with a Marshall cab. Not in a million years with the peavey. Trust me, this is not just some guy coming on this board to trash peavey for no reason, I bought the thing. I had no prejudice to peavey products. This is the God's honest truth my experience with the 412 cab. I suppose that if your using a mostly high gain amp situation, where the speakers are simply outputing the pure raunch from the amp and your not pushing the speakers to breaking up, its possible they may pass muster. But in my situation where your pushing speakers, the peavey sound terrible. But even still, playing the amp at high gain setting still results in a noticably unpleasant harsh and brittleness. Its not hard to hear the difference, as I said...night and day.

As for reliability, I stated above I've totalled four blown speakers in just a matter of a few hours of use. And not even having the amp cranked up that high, either

No experience directly with Peavey. The speakers were replaced without question, so I guess thats a plus.

I suppose by now, if you've read this far, you can tell that I think the 412MS blows big time.
