Most people expect too much from this amp. It is not powerful, it doesn't have many features, but as a practice amp, it pleanty loud, and has all you might need for a beginer. Distortion, clean, reverb, and a little EQing. It still holds up OK even after you step out of the bed room and into the garage to play with a young high shcool band, and it even holds up when your playing a halloween party in the dining room. It doesn't sound great when you turn it up loud enough to keep up with a heavey handed drummer, but once again, it's just a practice amp. One of the first few amps I have ever owned.
This amp was the largest of 3 practice amps I had chained together, and if you use an external effects chain (as I did) you can actually get a pretty decent tone out of it, even cranked up, just don't look for a whole lot of bass.

It's noisy, not very loud and so forth, as stated above, but it will do the job untill you are ready to start playing real shows.

I would not play a gig with this amp, at least not at a club or anything like that. Basment shows, it may work, but you will not like the sound. I never had any problems with mine though.

If it were lost or stolen, I would not necessarily seek out this amp in particular, but probably some sort of peavey.

made in the 90's i guess... i play alternative and peavey's are more metal amps than anything. comes w clean, distortion, reverb, low, mid & high... your basic POS practice amp features. i wish it had a good distortion tone and maybe some freekin EQ but that's too much to ask of peavey i guess.

clean channel sounds half-ass. distortion sounds like a walmart toy amp. this amp only sounds decent with reverb kranked all the way up. always hums and pisses me off cuz it cuts out the tone sometimes. not just mine, but other ones of this same model do it too cuz peavey doesnt seem to care much about quality tone which is why not too many rock stars use them unless they're paid to advertise them on stage and i have a strange gut feeling they're never plugged in, but that actually, the band is using a GOOD (non-peavey) amp, hidden backstage. ok for practice alone in a small room i guess. gets loud but sounds worse and worse past 6 on vol... turns to static and bad noise... basically, i hate it.

don't know when it was made, but for practice, it rules. clean channel could be less shrill, and i'd appreciate an eq on it, but hey.....
the rating is price biased.

the distortion is shit above 5 or so on the pre gain. but it is convincingly warm enough below that (whatever the post setting is) with my strat (mex, but i've hot rodded it beyond noting here, but know this, i know my shit, big time). through headphones, it's really shrill, way too much highs, makes the clean channel obsolete. by dialing off the highs in the overdrive channel to around 3 or 4, it sounds good enough to play and really dig in (headphones mind you, without, dial in to taste, this amp is great to just jam out to alone, practicing). reverb is also kinda crappy past 5 or so. i've been really happy though with this amp. it was given to me free by a friend and i've been suprised by the sounds coming out of it. i would have paid some money for it, since you don't have to worry about tube maintanence. i've used may good tube amps and know the potential for sound (better matchless, better mesa-boogies, fenders, ampeg). that sponginess, that soak, that liveliness. this isn't quite that, but it is worlds away from regular solid state sounds.
i'm giving it an eight but i'm almost ready to give it a nine, it is that good (for solid state and at the cheap price. hell, after some time with this amp, some tweaking, maybe a bottle rocket, it's a ten?).
Reliability
:

i've never had a peavey shit the bed on me. except for one time that was my fault-a really hot active electronic bass in to a high gain input to a peavey amp (blew the speaker coil). my fault. yes, higher output by lower dial readings, but much more stress on the pre and power amp sections. i learned my lesson.
this amp served my friend well for years, and has done well for me too.

i've been playing bass over a decade, and guitar since i started to build them (what's the use having them if you can't play them?). tone itself has always been a major goal, and this little amp is fine for practicing. it does take some time to dial in a good tone, but they are in there. every nuance in guitar output, playing style, effects chain are presented here. more than most amps, especially solid state, this amp needs personal assesment to sound good, but it can.

This amp basically has everything you need, as far as a practice amp goes. Good clean and dirty channels, master tone controls, and reverb. It's nothing special, but it fits the bill nicely as a practice amp.

I'm writing this review as an addendum to a review I wrote approximately 5 years ago (look up the page and find a review by "Rob M," that's me. How young and foolish I was back then.). This is what I have to say now. For a long time I never appreciated the dirty sound this amp put out on its lead channel. Then about 2 years ago, something funny happened. My multi-effects pedal busted, so I was forced to start using this amp's lead channel whenever I wanted to kick it up a notch. In essence, the sound grew on me in a big way. It's a little midrange-happy, but other than that, it's a nice warm smooth sound, with enough balls to get me by. As well, I've come to appreciate the sound of the clean channel a little more. I can use the same tone settings for my lead channel with my clean, and it will sound great (if not just a tiny bit shrill).
My only real complaint about the amp is that it constantly puts out a fairly annoying hum that only seems to dissapear when I take it into the shop and the technician would play and, magically, the hum would dissapear. I would take it home again, and it would be back. I know that the hum is not caused by irregularities in my house's power, as it has produced the same hum thousands of miles away.
Other than that however, I love the tone of this amp, it suits me perfectly as far as practice amps go.

I've travelled thousands of miles with this amp, and nothing has ever really gone wrong with it (except the aforementioned hum, but that's always been there). I haven't really kicked it around, but through 5 years of continuous use, I've yet to have an incident.

As previously stated, it's a practice amp, so I don't really expect it to do anything extreme, and I don't fool around with it too much or blast the speakers. That said, I've been using it as a practice amp for a long time now, and it's proven very reliable, and, so long as you can ignore the annoying hum, it also sounds very good.
Nothing special, but if you're just looking for a decent practice amp, this should fit the bill nicely.

I own this amp from when I started playing in mid 90's, and it never deluded me. I still use it as a practice amp, and believe me as a practice amp it's great. I don't like the sound of when you put the phones in, but that's not a normal thing I did often so, that's ok with me.

I play a gibson les paul voodoo and all the loud and bass tones of a les paul neck pick up are reproduced fine as my vht poweramp and cabinet does. The clean is good, and the distortion is not so loud, but hey, do you expect it to sound like a monster? it's a 25w amp. Anyway, I play through a BOSS ME50 multieffect pedalboard and I can reach distortion levels that really can kick your ass, this amp never hum or loose quality at high levels, I can reproduce all kind of distortions, from death metal to classic rock to crossover nu metal kind of sound to blues sound. Of course, even fully effected clean sounds (dealy chorus flanger,ecc...) are played fine. great great little amp.

Of course this can't stand a drum, you can't play gigs with this little but good amp, but for playing at home this amp do his work and more.
It's made of heavy material, and in 6 years it never broke once. never, always working. I will never sell this little baby, it will be always in my room, even if I use rack mounted amps and big cabinets. for practice this is the best.

I use a fender standard strat and tele, american made, conventional pickups. LP copy w/ 2 p-90's. I am a marginal six string player and play bass much more often. As a practice amp and for the low cost it suits my playing ability. Sounds best with the tele and lp copy, and great with my acoustic/electric. all practice amps distort at hig volume. Clean is great for rockabilly reverb is strong. Distortion is average for a solid state practice amp. it sounds better than the fender sidekick and most other 10 to 20 watt amps.

Maybe late 90's, its discontinued. I bought it new on close out. Other reviews cover features, but the feature that makes this amp worth it's its weight is the CD/Tape input. Plug in your guitar, plug in your headphones. Then run a cord from your CD player output to the CD in jack in the amp. Turn everything down, then CAREFULLY set levels. Suddenly you are jamming with Johnny Winter, and noone's calling the cops.... you can really get an idea of what kind of touch you'll need to play loud with this feature- You should buy it for this alone. (Warning- use your brain in setting levels, you can hurt your ears...)
As others have said, it is not loud enough to play in a club, competing with drums and a few other 2x12 or 4x10 type amps... for folk or acoustic it would be fine...

I play a les paul and an SG through it. At certain volumes it gets all kind of sounds, it has high-mid-low eq and reverb and an overdrive channel so its got quite a bit of variety available. Miked or for recording it's one of those amps that you go "wow, that litle things making that noise?"

Amp was made in 99. I've just upgraded from the Peavey Rage 158, only because I got a great deal on this one. Two channels, clean and lead. Reverb, 3 band eq., headphone jack (a must for practicing at home), cd/tape jack, external speaker jack, and a remote switch jack. 1 10" speaker 25watts, plenty of power for practice, I don't turn it past 4. I should say it is one of the transtube series. The only thing I don't care for is the power and channel switches. Never had any problems with them yet but I've seen the new models and they have upgraded the switches.

I use this amp at home only and it suits me just fine. I play an acoustic electric with a piezeo pickup and a mim Tele. Both sound great. I don't use it past 4 that is plenty loud for me. There is a little noise but I was thinking about changing the power cable, it doesn't have a ground terminal. When you touch the strings most of the noise leaves because you become the ground. I like country and classic rock. I don't use the distortion.

Don't know the year for sure on mine. It has input, 2 channels, pre, post, cd input, treb, mid, bass, phones out, and remote switch. I read the last three or four postings before mine and kinda feel sorry for stupid people. You pay $50 for a practice amp and expect it to sound like a Line 6 or tube amp???? Hello!!!!!!!
This is a PRACTICE amp. If you buy it with that in mind you will absolutely love it. If you're wanting the sound of a tube amp or some other $400 or more amp, save up your money so you won't have to pretend it's this PRACTICE amp that's making your lack of practice sound bad. I give mine an easy 8, keeping in mind that the category of rating is PRACTICE amp. :) Did I mention I use it for a PRACTICE amp???

I have a Epi Dot, Westone SX, and run an effects loop through my laptop sometimes. I find that if I play around, I can get almost any sound I want. That's what makes it a good PRACTICE amp. About the only thing I don't like about the amp is the reverb. It's really weak, but, then again, when a good reverb pedal will run you at least $30, do you really expect an amp in this range to have awesome reverb?

Have played piano for 23 years and guitar for 1. Overall, I have loved this little amp. I bought a Peavey Blues Deluxe when I learned what I liked in sound, and learned more about tube amps. This is a great amp for just playing in your room or learning how to play the electric. Again, it was never meant to be a gig amp. For what it was designed to do, it's an easy nine. If they would have put a little bit better reverb on it, I'd give them a 10.

This amp was purchased in 1998, and is part of Peavey's transtube series. It has three equalizers (mid, bass, high) and a footswitchable lead channel (footswitch sold seperate). The volume on the clean channel is independant from that on the lead channel, which to me is a nice feature a lot of small amps don't have. It has reverb (I think it's actual springs, but I'm not sure), one main input, cd/tape input, earphone jack, and an extension speaker jack. It is 25 watts RMS at 8 ohms which runs through a 10" peavey Blue Marvel speaker. It only has a two prong plug, so watch out! Funny enough, the CD input makes it great for auditions which coincides with its name, but it is mainly meant to be used as a practice amp.

It is important to note that this amp is not meant as a performance amp, but is meant to be a practice amp. In this application, the amp sounds good. Most of the noise I hear comes from the fact that it has no ground. You serve as the ground through your guitar (unless your guitar's ground wire is disconected). When you let go of the strings, you no longer serve as the ground and it's noise city. If you have a noise gate however, this is irrelevent. The clean channel sounds great, and doesn't start to break up until after about 8 or so, depending on how hard you play. The lead channel is ideal for a rock/dirty blues type of sound or that good'ol Neil Young type of raunch. Metal heads and punks should look elsewere. To get more gain would require a distortion pedal. The "transtube" difference is not so noticeable here as compared to the bigger transtube amps, but it sounds a hell of a lot better than the other cheap amps Peavey made before this. The reverb sucks when compared to the acoutronics that I have in my stage amp, but it's reverb nonetheless, and very necessary in my opinion. The Blue Marvel speaker isn't near as good as Peavey's Sheffield line, but this is reflected in the price. Still, it does the job and there is a jack for a better speaker if it bugs you that much. The 25 watts is just enough to keep up with a lazy drummer, and is more than you will ever need for practicing in your room (and loud enough to piss your parents off!). The headphone jack is great when you want to play at 3:00am, but the lead channel sounds simply horrible without a speaker. The CD input is a nice addition. The guitar cuts in a lot louder than the music being played, so the music serves as a background to your guitar, allowing you to hear it very distinctly.

I have had this thing all over the place by bus and car. I have walked with it through the rain. I have left it in the car at +30C and -30c for hours at a time. I remember walking in -25C with a 2000 windchill factor for half an hour until the metal was white with frost. Ten minutes later it was singing. I have dropped it about twice now, and whenever I take it on the bus with me (which is quite often), it is always subject to quite a bashing. Reliablity is this amps strongest point. Once I had a problem with the reverb feedbacking, but it rectified itself before I had a chance to bring it in.

The amp originally came with a 3 year warranty, but now Peavey is selling them with 5 years. I guess they're confident with what they built. I have never had occasion to use customer support, and judging by Peavey's reputation, I just might not ever have to.

I've had this amp for almost three years now and I must say it has fit in quite nicely. It's just the right size that I can carry it with my guitar hand in hand. My stage amp weighs about 100 pounds, so when I'm on the move, I'm glad I have this one handy. I just grab it and go. I even like the open back which gives me somwhere to stuff all my pedals patch cords. The CD input and the earphone jack clearly make this ideal for bedroom practicing. Features like footswitcheable channels, 10" speaker, and a loud 25 watts make it seem like you could use it to perform, but it just can't compare to the other amps that were made for that purpose. However, if you look at it in a different light, it's a suped up practice amp that can take a serious beating and fit on a crowded city bus when needed. I think we could all use something like that.

This thing has an awesome clean channel. Absolutely no feedback!! The lead ( distortion ) channel on the other hand? Well... it sucks. I use it is a clean channel buy turning the pre gain way down and man, it sounds really nice. For distortion, I hooked up an effects box that has killer overdrive ( my dad made it way back when ), and that makes the clean channel sound like the best overdrive channel any man would ever want. I set the reble and bass to about seven and the mid to about 3.5 ( this is all for both channels ). I play a mexican made strat and, even with single coils, I get no feedback on the "clean" channel. The distortion channel though is another story. If I can, I'll get a new speaker for it. This one isn't punchy enough.

This amp is the newer Audition 110 so like 1998 I think..I play heavy as f*ck death metal, hardcore, and punk rock. The amp has an okay clean channel, and a pathetic "lead" (yeah right!) channel with weak as hell distortion. I don't wish it had an other features, because it's still a Peavey, and as such, is useless crap! It has some reverb that I never used, and a headphone jack. Oh, and a cd input that sounded like hell! It's solid state, 25 watts, and it has a Blue Marvel 10" driver. I really wonder what the hell they were thinking when they made this thing! It's underpowered, overpriced, and really poorly built!

I was using a flying v at the time, and this couldn't hack it even at low volumes! The only thing I could get it to do was decent clean sounds, but even those were runnin' out of power since this is only 25 watts. The distortion is useless.....go buy a real pedal like the Boss Metal Zone.

I've played for about 5 years, and nearly everything I've come across sounded better than this thing did! I finally wised up and realized that low power amps (with the exception of old tube amps) sound like shit, and that buying the "cheap" amp or guitar or whatever else, shows how serious you are about your music! You need to get a decent amount of power and you need to get a amp with at least a 12" driver. Get out of the rut of cheesy equipment and save up! If you didn't waste your money on this, you coulda went and got a Mesa Boogie or a Marshall! Or on a budget, go with Crate's bigger combos!

I play everything and anything. The distortion on this thing is great for rock/blues... but once you start gettin onto some punk or alt and you want to blow this thing up. The clean channel is awesomley versatile but I don't care. My guitar is a 1980 Ibanez Blazer and the single coils suck with this amp. The Peavy Audition 110 is amplifier purgatory

I play every kind of Rock, mainly Oasis, Led Zeppelin, Offspring, Raimundos, Paralams do Sucesso, Aerosmith, Green Day, Silverchair, etc. The combination of the Tec4 with the Audition 110 is really great, but the distortion of the Peavey is not so good.

I run a Gibson les paul studio through this as a practice amp. I play New rock, classic rock, southern rock It serves its purpose nicely. I do have one problem, With the 10 inch speaker if you turn it up past about 6 the speaker distorts badly. Both amps I tried did this. I had an extra carvin 100 watt british series 12" speaker so I altered the speakerboard to fit it in this 110 combo. And whoa! what a difference. It made this thing sound awsome. Had alot more bottom end, and volume, and the clean channel sounds surprisingly good. Peaople seem to shy away from low watt amps and buy some monterous high wattage 300lb amp, break their back carrying it around and then go to a show and turn it up to 1. I just dont get it. This thing is and at practice with everybody else blaring, I have it turned up to about 5. Thats about the point where this thing starts opening up. I rate this amp a 4 with the 10" speaker, and a 9 with the 12" speaker

This is a 25 watt, solid state amp. It has a 10 inch speaker, 2 channels, clean and lead(drive). It is a transtube, which basically means it is a a tube emulator. It has reverb, a 3 band EQ, and pre and post gain. It has an output, an external speaker jack, an earphone jack, a footswitch jack, and a cd input jack to play along with cds. For a practice amp, it has about as many features as you could expect. This amp doesn't go as loud as some, but it still has decent volume.

The clean channel sounds great. I have an epiphone with humbuckers, and this amp makes my guitar sound rich and full. The distortion leaves plenty to be desired, it feeds back at high gain levels and doesn't sound that great, but I don't care that much because the only distortion I use is my BOSS DS-1. If you use a distortion pedal, I highly recommend this amp because for the price the clean channel sounds amazing. As for the lead channel, it's gonna be tough to find good overdrive on a non tube practice amp. Another thing, there is a huge amount of reverb on this, I can't ever imagine using the reverb on 10, because that would just be too much.

This amp is pretty light in weight, and I've only had it for a few weeks, but it seems pretty sturdy. I would probably use this without a backup since I don't intend to bash it around much, and solid states generally don't fail. One of the main reasons I bought this amp, however, is that at high volume, the casing didn't rattle. A lot of the other amps at this price range had that problem, primarily the Vox Pathfinder and the Marshall Park 30RCD. The Vox sounded amazing and I bought it, but it rattled so much that I had to return it, so I was listening very closely for rattle in this one, and I didn't hear it in the store, and I haven't heard any rattle at home yet.

I have been playing for a year, and I also play drums, which is part of the reason I bought a bigger amp. If it were stolen or lost, chances are, I would buy it again. The one thing that is really amazing is the amount of reverb you can get out of it. The reverb on 5 sounds like the Fender Frontman on 10, and the reverb on 3 sounds like the Marshall Park on 10. I generally keep the reverb around 4, but if you are a reverb fanatic, you'll love this. For the price I payed its great. If you intend to use the onboard overdrive I wouldn't recommend this, but if you use a pedal, it's grreat.

I'm using an Epi spec II w/ humbuckers. This amp does not really have any great sounds, and is pretty noisy. The clean channel is very thin and clean, even with humbuckers, and doesnt break up at all until about 9. The tone controls dont really affect the sound much. It is not loud, and prob wont cut it along with drums. The dist channel is pretty pathetic. You have to keep the highs all the way up and the tone on you guitar all the way up, and thats still not really enough treble. On low gain settings it sounds ok, but nothing great. Higher gain settings are pretty harsh and boxy. Open chords melt into one distorted blob of sound. This channel is louder than the clean channel, but still not too loud. Might just make it if its dimed while playing along with drums, and then it squeals like crazy. The reverb is ok. I've heard other 25 watt solid states that are prob 50% louder than this one.

The auditon 110 is a really simple and really cheap amp. With a bit of tweaking, it's easy to sounds from the Beatles all the way over to Metallica. Good for a lot of styles..it's simple & well rounded. Has two channels, clean (just a vol. control) and lead (pre & post gain knobs). A footswitch is optional but i didn't get it, so i have to reach down to the button. There is a three band eq, reverb, headphone jack, and another jack for cd's or something that i have never used. The 25 watts are pretty good for bedroom playing, cuz that's the only place i play. I've never played through a tube amp, so i don't know if the Transtube technology is any good.

I use this with a crappy yamaha guitar, & i play mostly Neil Young, Radiohead, and RATM. I can't say that this amp sounds all that bad for most things. One problem i had is that when the amp is flat on the ground, it made kind of a hollow, deep feedback type thing whenever i stopped playing, though it wasn't stoppable like feedback is. Also, something inside rattled when i played certain chords. I fixed this by tilting the amp at a 35 degree angle against the wall. The distortion ain't that bad, i like it when i'm to lazy to hook up all my pedals, and it's pretty good for that. Not too fuckin' brutal, but good enough.
