I picked up a bandit equipped with a scorpion speaker of ebay for $150. Not sure what year this amp is, I'm guessing early 90's. It was just what I was looking for in an amp, Very Bright. Has all the features an amp realy needs. I had a 15Watt amp with all the effects and it didnt sound that great.

I am using this guitar with a Hagstrom Super Swede (les Paul style guitar) it has its stock buckers in it. I play grunge type music and blues this amp is AWESOME!!! The amp has some noise from the distortion channel but I like that. The distortion channel is pretty cool but once I plugged in my Boss Ds-1 peddle I was BLOWN AWAY!!!

Im not to sure about the reliability of it yet as I only had it for 2 days. Although when I first took it out of the box I plugged the amp in and the clean channel had no volume coming out of it and the dirty channel was very low. I was pissed so as I was strumming I gave it a couple kicks to the side and smacks to the top and I heard a loud POP from the speaker... After that this amp has been working like a champ!

I got this amp new back in '92 as my first amp. I use it as a practice amp, i've used it as a gig amp but i've upgraded. It's a fairly versatile amp. It goes great with punk, classic rock and 80's metal. You can get an idea of what features it has by reading the previous posts. It's a GND that helps even out the hissing you get sometimes when plugging the preamp into cabs or PA systems.

The clean channel is fairly clear at high volumes and has a nice bottom and a nice high. The reverb is nice as well. The distortion varies from a crackly punk sound to a muffled 70s rock sound to a fairly thick, crunchy, high distorted 80s metal sound. I have two guitars that i play with this, a Gibson Les Paul with 490 and 498 Alnico pickups and a Dean V Phantom XT with dual Seymour Duncan Invaders and they go well with the amp. It doesn't hum, even after all these years.

Most reliable amp i've ever owned. It's outlasted my Crate and Fender amps. I'm still playing it, they don't make bandits like this anymore. Last year i had to replace the speaker, it blew out at a high distorted volume. Not bad for how long i've abused it.

For the price i paid for this amp i couldn't of gotten a better amp. The new model Bandits can't even compare. Very cheap compared to this model. It's perfect for practice or small gigs. Only thing i wish it had was a more thicker distortion.

I bought this amp new in 1991. It is equipped with the 12 inch SCORPION speaker which I think is a much more rugged construction than the later Sheffield replacement. It's got two channels, one clean and one dirty with an effects loop and all solid state construction. This one is made in America and stands up much better than the new transtube Bandits which are made overseas. It's 80 watts which I've found to be plenty over the years in both live and studio or jamming situations. I play rock and heavy metal and find this amp to be very versatile although at louder volumes the tone definitely shifts and is harder to shape and becomes more ratty and less refined.

I use LesPauls and strats with this amp and prefer the sound of the LesPaul through it. Other guitars with humbuckers generally compliment the overdrive features nicely on this amp. They have a much fuller sound at high volumes and don't break up as much as single coils at high volumes. The strats are good too, but are much noisier through this amp. THe distortion channel is great and I don't use any outboard effects - just plug straight in.

This amp is very dependabe and as never been repaired in the 13 years that I've owned it. It has been knocked around but never really abused and has stood up fine. I use it as my main amp at gigs without backup all the time. Very reliable and well constructed.

I've been playing over 14 years and have played through Rolands and Marshalls - but much rather prefer the reliability of solid state amps over the years. I find tube amps need constant service and only really sound good when cranked which leads to increased wear and tear and more $ spent. This amp doesn't need to be played as loud to sound good and is much more reliable. I find the same to be true with many of the older Peavey models like the Chorus 212's or Renowns.

I think the amp was made in about 1992.
I play loads of different styles but mostly rock and hard rock (lots of riffs) and with time the tone i wanted came through.
it has 2 channels, clean and lead (distortion) and a reverb effect. it has a foot pedal with 2 buttons (that click nicely when you press them!) 1 for channel switching and one for reverb on/off. It has an effects loop (i haven;t tried it out but expect it to be fine) There is a pre-amp out and power amp in. i.e. line out and line in.
I wish the amp had slighty more tone control. There is enough but mabye an extra mid knob would be good.
The amp has 80 watts of ear bleeding capasity, that's plenty for me, because i play at home at a church in a band there) I find it loud enough for a small room at about quater of the knob turned.

i use an Ibanez SA series (2 single coil 1 humbucker)
it distortion (as i said before) is great once you tweak around with it. There is a bit of hum on both channels (obviously depending on the gain level)

NOT TRANSTUBE, they suck - this doesnt! "solo series" bandit 112, Sheffield equiped. Clean sound is fine but not fantastic, distortion sound is awesome for punkrock midrange crunch, likened to the guitar sounds of band like new found glory, sum 41, blink 182 ... basicically works real well for new age punk, espesically in recording situations, for live use I run from the preamp out in the back of the bandit into a Marshall series 9000 50w x 50w power amp whatever guitar cab i can find (cant afford my own yet) and it roars. The power amp compinsatates for the bandits tendincy to break up at high volumes. I also had the Sheffield speaker replaced with a brand new sheffield, which helped much in tightening up the bottom end.

a good generic sort of sound; with fx capable of emulating a good range of tones...as we all know, there is no "peavey" sound...peavey's big selling points have always been value for the dollar/reliability/cheap repair/broad sonic range

i worked as a repair tech at a peavey dealership for 5 years...they're cheap to fix, built well, and will take a lot of crap...dealers are everywhere...the only trouble is that their parts are all propriatery; they are unique to the brand, and cannot, in most cases, be had anywhere except from peavey

i bought this amp because it was there....i know the brand, and am comfortable with it...i played through an acquaintence's bandit in a house band for several years, with no fx, and always got a big, tough sound out of it....if i find another one for a reasonable price, i'll buy it too
