I use a Kramer Baretta most of the time with its stock quad-rail picups, sounds great with the mids on 0, and the clean channel is great, but the reverb adds noise. I use this amp for recording onto my computer, and the only think i change on the computer is i scoop the mids a little bit more.

I've been playing for a lil over a year and a half, and for what your buying its a great amp, it fits my style pretty good (metal, Death metal), gonna get an eq pedal to get more of what i want, but it is just a practice amp by design, so its a good buy.

This amp is one those Peaveys new transtube series model. I don`t know the exact year, when it has been made but I think it`s propably made in 2000-2002. I`ve had it for 4 months but I sold it a couple of weeks ago. It`s has power of 40 watts and I used it mainly for practise. It was quite versatile and suited well for my purposes. It had a normal and a lead channel. Both could be equalized by low, mid and high preferences. Normal channel had also so called vintage switch and lead channel had same kind of switch, but you also could select between normal, moderate, and vintage sound. It had also low and high gain channels, so you could attach two instruments in it.
The features were quite good so I give it 8 points
It has headphone jack, but no effects loop. Which I hope it would have had.

I` have Jackson ps-2 performer, which by the way kicks ass! it has one humbucker and two single coils, and it sounded ok with my Envoy 110. Especially the metal distortion sound was nice. The sound of the amp, however, was quite warm like. The sound overall was neither bad or good so I think 8 is the right number to describe the sound.

I` ve been playing for 1 year and this was my first amp, but I traded it for Peavey renown 400 which sounds hundred times better! If it had been stolen I propably wouldn`t have bought another. It`s a good basic amp especially good for beginners. I also have a Zoom gfx-4 multieffect which worked great with this amp.

I usually play a Gibson ES-135 w/vintage PAF's or an old strat with some lace sensors and a seymour duncan screamin demon (neck position). Been playin for 32 years now. I thought this would be a decent practice amp, but it's got the tone of 2 tins cans and a string. The clean channel is decent, but doesn't sound close to a tube amp. The lead channel is a tinny, worthless, white noise making waste of components. It's got enough power for a practice amp. You wouldn't dare gig with this unless you were playing at the 8th grade dance....maybe.

If your just gonna leave it in one place most of the time, it'll last forfreakinever. Not that you'd want it to. Eventually I'm gonna take it out back and put a few bullet holes in it for fun.

If you've got any experience at all, been playin for a few years now....don't buy this. I'll stick to my trusty old (27 years) Fender Twin for around the house playing. If you want a tube amp sound (and why wouldn't anyone?) you should get a tube amp. Solid state just doesn't cut it for me.

I bought this amp at a garage sale- it belonged to the seller's son. When he left town I think she stored in outside in the rain. It had mold growning inside and when I picked it up the head fell out. I put in new screws, mildew remover, and the thing cranked right up!

it's excellent value, and it sounds pretty good, but next to a tube fender or a tube marshall it is just out of it's league. I think it is better than equivalent price solid state fender or marshalls though.
The clean is pretty nice, especially if you add a bit of reverb.
the lead channel is good, for bluesy gain or super high gain, but not really in the middle. it works better to put the amp at high gain and turn the guitar volume down. There is one nagging bitch thing that is, if you like a scooped sound, and you palm mute a low note, the fucking thing resonates and sounds like shit.

Mine is the old style with the sloping front, (I think its early 90's) and two channels, clean and lead. Reverb. 3 band equalisation on the clean channel. I seem to remember there is the option for footswithable channel switching but I don't have a switch. I bought this amp secondhand because it was good price and came with an effects pedal I wanted.

As others have said before this is a very loud 35-40watt amp. The clean channel is nice I use it with a bit of reverb for some depth. As others have said the lead channel is OK at lower volumes for practice but is a bit wearing when cranked up. I am trying to play blues style with a bit of fingerstyle.
I am very much a beginneer and use it with an Aria semi and a cheap Encore strat copy, the clean channel is definately superior to my Sound city 30 with two ten inch speakers.

As I said this was cheap partly because two of the pots were broken. When I opened it up I was very impressed with the standard of construction, this is I would have though a " practice" amp but the circit board appeared to have been signed off after testing. Built in America and evreything about it is really solid.
I don't know what these sell for new but it certainly doesn't look built down to a price. The only reason I wouldn't give it 10 is the relatively short time I have owned it.

Excellent. The dealings I had with Peavey staff who supplied the necessary pots and some new knobs was great and would definately make me look at Peavey if I was buying new. Also a great website with a very good forum.

As I said I am a beginner this is a great small room/practice amp, would I buy another, well I'd probably try and find a larger Peavey with a better distortion, but if one came up at the right price I'd be tempted. What sells it to me is the clean channel, the quality of build and the backup from Peavey.

This is my first amp, and I got it in December 2000. It's decent enough for my purposes right now, but our band has started playing gigs and I might want to bump up to a higher watt amp. This one is a solid state, 40 watt, 1x10. Features are pretty much standard: 2 channels, clean and lead (although the newest models now have 2 lead channels: vintage and modern. i don't know anything about the newer ones). It does have channel switching although the switch comes separately; I think I paid like $15 for it. No effects loop ( no headphone jack either), but I haven't really missed that, maybe I will later, I don't know. It has a reverb effect which is good enough for practice or just jamming with my friends. I use this amp at home and when I practice, and it's the only one I've got so I use it anywhere else necessary as well. I do wish it had more power, but I don't have money so I'll have to wait a while to upgrade. So overall, it's got enough features for me, heck it's a practice amp for crying out loud, I don't know why other reviewers seem to expect JCM-2000 sounds out of it.

I use an Epi Les Paul with Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro humbuckers. This amp suits my style well enough, I just find out what settings the pro's use on their amps, set mine to the same, and then tweak it as needed. First of all, let me say that for a 40 watt practice amp, this thing is LOUD. I cranked it to 10 and my parents heard it loud-and-clear all the way at the other end of our street and the windows were closed. It does hum now and then, but this isn't really annoying unless I have a few effects plugged into it, i.e. wah, delay, overdrive... I've managed to get very bluesy to very heavy sounds out of this amp. I don't play a lot of clean stuff, but I've turned the clean channel all the way up and it is very LOUD as well, but crystal clear, even when turned all the way to 10. I've noticed the clean channel tends to break up a bit if there's too much bass, but that would seem to be a common sense kind of thing to me. The distortion is ok, it has a thrash switch to cut the midrange a bit and it also has an extra gain switch which gives it a very generous boost. Still, I can't quite put my finger on it, there's something missing from the distortion. It lacks warmth and tone, but it's solid state, and it's a small amp, so it doesn't bother me much. If you're going for a killer metal sound I'd get a distortion stompbox and put that in your chain. I just got an overdrive to add a little color to the sound and a little grit as well. I play Aerosmith, dc Talk, GNR, Collective Soul, Ozzy (basically blues based hard rock) and I've managed to get these tones or something really close out of it. Usually I'm too lazy to really search for that "perfect" tone, so I just turn the knobs to what sounds good and go from there.

I've only had one problem with this amp, and that was that the reverb didn't work when I got it. I let that slide for a while, and eventually took it in to the shop. I think they said the springs in the reverb box were loose or something, that the springs just didn't have enough tension on them. Easy fix, no problem, nothing to worry about. If gigging with it I'd have no 2nd thoughts. I've had it for over 2 years and not a problem. As I said earlier, it's solid state, so there's not a whole lot I'd think could break, unless you simply blow something on the inside.

I've been playing for about 3 years, and i've got this amp, my Les Paul, a Dunlop 535Q wah, a Boss DD-5 Delay, and a Boss SD-1 Overdrive. If lost or stolen I'd get a 100 watt Peavey or Fender (can't afford a Marshall) simply cuz I'm ready for something bigger. I like that it's got so much muscle in the small package; you could easily do a small gig with this thing. It drives my parents nuts. I do wish the tone and distortion were better, but this isn't so much of an issue if you hook up a stompbox to it. Most people don't give this a rating as high as 8, but it's a small practice amp, has decent features and decent sound, and it's affordable. It's no Marshall, but it does what it's intended for exceptionally well and I've had no real problems, therefore I'm giving it an 8.
