I also have a Gibson Goldtone 30 watt head. It is a killer amp. I totally love it's sound and versatillity!! But.....The JP-10 kicks it's ass in the tone department. It is clearer, bigger, and fatter than the 30 watt Gibson. The JP is head and shoulders above the Goldtone...And I still love the Goldtone. It ROCKS!! I use a Morley A/B/Y switch, so it's very easy to compare. James isn't making the JP-10 anymore, but I garantee any amp he makes will come with BIGGGGG SOUND!!

It stays on for hours at a time....Only problem I've had was a tone pot went bad. James emailed pics of the inside so I could check to see if anything had come loose and was touching the chassis. Everything inside his amps are perfect. I sent the amp back to him and not only did he repair the tone pot,( no charge) He also updated all the EQ pots, changed the Pentode/Triode switch to the speaker
option switch. I forget what he calls it, but that was free as well
He stands behind his amps, and takes time to explain and/or answer all your questions.

For pure tone and variety of tones that are available.....it's an 11!! For versatility, channel switching, boost, reverb, etc. It is probably a 7. I don't gig. I play at home with rythym track CD's, jam with a couple of buddies, and record. It is perfect for my needs.
You can be sure James will stand behimd his amps. And you can also be sure that all his amps come drenched with tone.

2003 amp from Peters, serial #3. Standard features (see site) plus effect loop and reD tolex. I wish a switchable clean channel (more later).

I play it with strato/Ibanez PGM30/Epi (ES 175?) & a mexican tele, with boss DS1 into Dunlop wha into input.
The clean voice is "vintage", not the sterile cold sound you get from multi channel combo or head. It will break up easy (at 12 oclock) with my PGM into a plexi territory:)
The crunch voice is more JCM than plexi, but has rounder tone. More warm, jazzy... I didn't like the first time I use it at home, but I found it to sit very well in my band - I use it as clean channel with gain between 9 and 11 o'clock, master at 3 o'clock.
The lead voice (3) is the best overdrive sound I've ever heard. It is brutal, crisp, clear and warm at the same time. With the gain between 9 and 12 o'clock I have enough gain to play metal, rock or blues with the same setting, changing the sound with pick attack and volume.
The voice 4 has tigher low than voice 4. More into Santana lead...
I need a clean channel, so I cannot use on a gig the voice 3, but I drive the crunch 2 with a boss DS1. There is a drop in volume betweeen channel 1-2 and 3-4, because the latter use an additional gain stage, so James cannot make a footswitch...

I always have a back up tube, and use a DG-stomp if anythink might fail. Built like a Boss ;)

I have asked many question by email to James Peters. We discuss about tube, speakers, cabs, gigs, money and women ;)
Now I'm building a 1x12 cab following James' advice :)
Support: 10.

I've played guitar as a hobby since... mid '80... I owned a JCM 800, some roland... I have a twin silverface, a H&K attax 100, a pro-JR, lots of pedal (boss, multifx,...), I have a rack with ADA MP2, mesa V-twin, advance 1492 (power amp 65+65w similar to mesa 50:50), digitech 2120, G-major... and too many things I can't remember ;)
I love the tone of the JP-10.
I wish it has a switchable clean, but I won't trade it for the tone. So I prefer this way...

This is a unique amp. There are 4 output settings and 4 voicing settings. I think the output is power amp and voicing is preamp. It has the normal EQ but with boost switches for mids and highs. The lows have 3 levels plus the standard knob settings. It has 2 speaker out jacks and can be set for 4-8-16 ohms. It is only 10 watts but it sounds like 100. I use it for playing in my basement either by myself or with a couple of friends that I jam with. This is the most versatile tube amp I have ever seen. The interaction between output, voicing and the EQ section is incredible. The possibilities are almost endless. This is a high gain amp and does not claim to have a super clean sound. With a little reverb and chorue you can get a pretty sweet sound but mostly I like to goose the gain a little. It does not have several channels or an effects loop( I think you can have loop installed) but for what I do it doesn't need them. I don't know how to rate the features because they are like tone...everyone has there own needs. For me it is perfect.

I am mostly using a fat Strat and play 60's-70's rock and blues. It is so versatile though, I can play around with a little metal, fuzz, or whatever I am into. I can't tell you what amp or amp's this sounds like. However several musicians have been over to hear it and they all are very impressed. I am using an Avatar 2x12 with Emminence V12 Legends and I have a Fulltone Fat boost, Fulldrive 2, a Clyde Deluxe wah, and a mini Deja-Vibe. All Fulltone pedals are good or great, but the Fulldrive 2 and the Fat boost can't really add anything to this amp. The wah sounds awesome as does the Deja-Vibe( Think Robin Trower). I am one of those people that is never totally satisfied with my tone. But with this amp I have dozens and dozens of options. What I love this week may change next month. It is very easy to fix. I tweak it regurally and that is what makes this amp so special. Besides sounding huge it can always change with the mood or style. You can get depth, sustain, and rich tone no matter what style you are playing. This amp does distortion, fuzz, overdrive, and more. I have always outgrown the other amps I owned, but this one can go wherever you go.

Built like a tank. It is also extremely classy looking. James is the most personal person I have ever dealt with. He answers all question in great detail. I know if I ever had a problem he would make it right.

We have been in contact fot the past 6 months or so. Thats how long I have owned the amp. He even sent me several of his favorite settings.

No doubt the best amp I have ever owned!!! I don't play in a band and never will. I either record, play along with some rythym tracks, jam with a couple of buddies, or work on learning new songs. I can always dial in a tone that I like without any stompboxes. I rarely use any. It covers all the bases for me and then some. I am anxiously waiting for James' new clean amp to come out. The quality is top of the line and he doesn't settle for average. I will most likely buy the clean Peter's amp when it hits the market.

This is a single channel, high gain, low wattage, all tube, PTP hand made amp. Three 12AX7 preamp tubes and a single power tube, either EL34, 6L6, 6V6, or EL84 with a yellowjacket. For this type of amp I would say it is loaded with features. See the website for more details but it has master volume, gain level, high, low and medium controls (both the high and medium have "boost switches", the low has a 3 setting boost switch) a 4 stage voicing switch, 4 different output drives, a pentode/triode switch, a low/medium/high bias switch, and a 4/8/16 ohm selector for the output jack. If you are worried that there is no reverb, don't be. You will never miss it. This amp has such a thick, full sound that you really don't need any reverb. Some people may want an effects loop, but I don't miss that either.

INCREDIBLE!!! This is primarily a high gain amp and it does that extremely well. With all of the possible settings you can get everything from a great classic rock sound to an all out brutal distortion, which is still crisp and clear (if that makes sense). It also has a very nice clean sound as well. Much better than you would expect from a high gain amp. It's not the "Fender clean" but it is very nice in it's own sense. I am currently playing it through an Avatar 2X12 cab loaded with a Celestion Vintage 30 and a Celestion 12H-30. Can't wait to try it with a 4X12. I have a Warmoth Soloist with Dimarzio humbuckers, Warmoth Strat, and an old Erlewine Lazer with a Toni Iommi Signature pickup in it. The amp needs to be adjusted some for each but they all sound great through it.

I've only owned it a couple of months but it is solid. I have had no problems with it so far and doubt I ever will. I never "gig" but if I did I would be the type that always has backups; tubes, guitar and amp. If I ever did have a problem with it I know I could send it back to James and he would take care of it.

I have been playing off and on for 15 years, but you wouldn't know it if you heard me. This is really a much nicer amp than I need, but damn does it sound good. And I need all the help I can get. Seriously, I placed an order for the predecesor of this amp, the 3CP1. It turned out that right after I placed my order James started changing some things and eventually ended up redesigning the whole amp. It ended up taking much longer than I had originally expected because of this, but it was well worth it. As a result I now own serial #1 of the JP-10 series. I have owned a few amps, some good, some not so good. This one buries them all. If you are looking for a quality low-powered, all tube head you need to look at this amp. You can't go wrong with the JP-10. If you need a little more power a 50 watt version, the JP-50, is also available.
