Pignose 60-R

Original owner. Know alot of History!! (will mention later) Basic features: PreVol-T-M-B-Mast.-Reverb. Made in '79-'81, this (2input)1 channel, solid state 60w amp is portable and 12" Eminence spkr. loud enough for gigs. I've used it for every style, and rock is it's specialty. Has it's own distortion, turn preamp vol 11:00 to 2:30 Fendery, after 3:00 distortion. Must use EQ in loop (I also use 1 side of rackmount BBE to insure caCHUNK!). Nowadays, I run line out into Power Amp and 2 2x12cabs. I use stuff in the effects loop to shape my tone further (secret weapons), and the spring reverb is nice set lowest. No ft.sw. I've used this amp for everything from first garage bands and Jazz band in H.S., to jamming gigs with Mr.Potatohead (Opie&Anthony), used in recording studios, to today as UNDOUBTEDLY my favorite part of my psycho-rig!
Turns out that Pat Quilter of QSC had alot to do with designing the previous model 30/60 (Nice guy!). Also turns out that Paul Rivera Sr. of Rivera Amp. had alot to do with this model 60R (but doesnt want to talk about it: 'Just buy my amp'). Rumor has it also that the preamp section is BASED on... (OR, actually is).. a ProCo RAT Distortion Pedal. Hmm. A solid-state Rivera, with a built in RAT. Makes sense to me!

I highly suggest using a 10 band EQ in the effects loop! Wow. Like a flower in spring, this thing opens up! Like a Bull in a China Shop this thing gets BIG and Nasty. Really. Since the day I did this, I have been blown away. Had stacks, racks, blahblah... this little amp is MY tone. Honestly sounds like a solid state Mesa Boogie. Some folks don't believe it isnt tubes! Many praises. I mainly use hot humbuckers (Tom Anderson, Duncan) in custom-style alder strats through this amp. Good for anything rock: mild to HEAVY! Sounds like Lukather Vai Satriani Halen Lynch mixed tone. At first listen, has a treble-mid-violin tone, but put my secret weapons thru the loop, tweak and BLAMMO! This thing becomes a chunky tube-like plexi-tone rival of tube amps. Sustain. Singing. Like a wicked tube amp.
On top of this?.....wait for it..... it's quiet.
Really, no BS! Can it be that I am the only one to discover this little tone jewel?

I've owned it since 79-80. It's been in the shop 3 times. No tubes to worry about. Hard to find reliable solid state guy.

Whenever I have a question, I call Howard at Pignose (sent me schematic, too).Over the years I've bugged him to reissue this amp w/more features. He's always kind enough to get on the phone with me, and let me pick his brains about this out of production amp. He referred me to Pat Quilter, who had designed the 30/60. Pat referred me to Paul Rivera Sr., who supposedly built the 60R's.
I got lotsa questions that can't be answered.
Solid state amps (and I?) dont get much respect.
They make new amps.
I rate this category high, for Howard and Pat, 2 great guys that always helped me on the phone.

I have a crazy rig. I go into a RJM switcher that enables me to choose ANY of my analog tube preamp/s.s.amp/pedal distortion tones, and then put it through digital/analog effects, and through power amp/cabs. It's 8 analog preamp tones/midi-foot-controlled, so I have almost 600 presets w/digital analog fx. It's overkill. It's Awesome. A dream come true. At the heart of it all, is the Pignose 60R.
This Pignose 60R. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
If stolen, I'd have to eat their brains with a nice Chianti. Then search ebay.
