This a prototype, of the newest verson of this amp. I went to see Dennis Kaeer at his shop about another amp and ened up buying this. I use to own a G40v,great little amp. I liked and wish I HADN'T SOLD IT. Anyway Dennis told it was the newest verson of this amp. I figured I liked the ittle one, why not try the big one. I'm an old blues guy, I, IV, V7 to death. I don't have time for a lot of knobs, and don't use effects. This amp is just right for baby bear. I've got a coupla 1x12 cabs and a 1x15 cab. This is all I need. Of course it's all glass inside.

I've got a Les Paul, a Greg Haxstie hand built hollowbody (no f holes), an eighties American Kramer Strat. This amp is an indescrimanate blues monster. It might sound good at low volumes I don't know, I just turn it up and git it done. It's got the right amount of volume for us.

I've been gigging with it for about six months now no problems. And for those of you who don't like Dennis, grow up. He was cool when I called him years before these amps came out and he's cool now. He has a wealth of info and was willing to share it.

As I said above he's the man. I just wish he was a little closer than one hundred miles away. I dropped of the other amp and told him I wouldn't e back his way for month, he said no problem. When the month came I was there and so was he. He aint so bad a guitar player either.

Been playing since '73. This is the only non vintage amp I own execpt for an amp that freind built for me. Of course they're all glass powered. Is it better than my fifty watt 1950's RCA amp (2x 6l6, 2x 12ax7, 2x12at7)? C'mon does the audience notice heck no. I'm happy It weighs less than my vintage gear and sounds good what do you want. I sold my Mig 60 and kept this. Nuff said.

As promised, this is a follow-up review of the Pignose G60 RV Head. I have been playing this amp for almost a year now and other than a few tweaks (see below), this little Rock Machine is purring right along! I said before that I wish it had a true power cut, and although that would be nice, I've learned that I don't really need it or miss it.
This head is used primarily in my private guitar room, or at friends' houses for jamming. Same basic features and it's still filling my guitar needs!

Since my first review, I've taken a 180 degree turn...I sold my three Telecasters and I'm now playing Dean Cadillacs. Set neck, mahogany, humbucking rock-n-roll monsters! Just needed a change ;)
I wanted to let everyone know that this head sounded AWESOME with single coils, and a little dirt from my pedals, but sounds down right PERFECT with my new humbucker guitars! I still rely on it for it's foundation tone and add color with pedals. Everytime someone hears my tone, they think it must be coming from the guitar! I just smile as they look for the Marshall, Fender, or Vox label!
As I got intimate with this amp, I discovered that my Chorus pedals sound MUCH fuller and warmer through the effects loop, my sound cleans up to a really sweet chime when I'm in the lower power setting (think Fenderish head room) and I've eq'd my Daddy-O and TS9 to handle the Thick and Thickest tones. Watch out if you switch to high power with the pedals on...In-your-face, whoop-ass, snarl!
Nose really isn't a factor in the low power setting. I don't mean quite. I play this amp too loud as most of us usually do. It sounds just fine at lower volumes but I like to feel the music run through me? I'm sure you understand! Clean sounds are really nice with a little chorus running. I'm sure if I had better pickups, (using stock Deans) the tone would only improve, but Hell, I'm still very pleased.

If you read my factual horror story further down, Then read this! I play this amp about 10-12 hours a week. Sometimes for three hours strait and other times for 20 minutes. I replaced the stock 6L6 tubes with THD Yellowjackets and Tesla EL84 tubes because I like the greasier sound of 84's. This is the only mod I've done and after 11 months of real use, not abuse, this amp is working perfectly! Those cheap Chinese preamp tubes are still working fine! I look forward to getting to play and not because of my newer Caddy guitars, although they are fun to rock with. The excitment comes from the tones of this amp! No problems and still makes my heart pound when I hear it...

Get one of these if you like to play Rock-n-Roll guitar! I highly recommend the Yellowjacket switch although I will get a quality set of 6L6's just to swap out every now and then. I've been saying this for a year and haven't needed or wanted to spend the money yet! I will pick up another one eventually and i'm always looking on ebay for some sucker who bought this amp but really wanted a "it'll play the guitar for you" modeling amp! If this is you...email me! Give this cheap (in cost only!) little amp a go and see if it's the one for you. You may be VERY suprised!

This is my second review. I,ve used this amp for about one year.
I play blues, classic rock, and R & B.
This 60 watt tube amp is good enough for what I play.
It has only one channel with a low to high switch.
I wish it had tone pots that work better. They don't seem to vary the tone that much.
I wish it came with a better power cord. I replaced it with a longer and better quality cord. The original cord was really short.
There is no standby switch. It is a pain to keep turning the volume down between sets.
I use this amp for gigs. It has been dropped - once- and has been reliable. It ius used with a 1-12 inch eminence speaker bottom.

I use a fender stratecaster with texas special pickups.
I have a very aggressive lead style. I use an Ibanez tube screamer.
The amp has a wonderful clean sound. It breaks up a little with the volume on ten and the master volume set on whatever volume level I deem appropriate. peole at gigs comment on the sound.
A lot of my sound has to do more with the way I play. For instance:
left hand muting, pick attack, position, using my fingers sometimes instead of the pick, etc.
This is not a heavy metal amp. It is fine for blues. It has nice janglely sound.

As I wrote previosly, the amp has a lamination buzz from one of the transformers. Dennis Kager refused to replace it. He did replace the tubes with 5881s. I replaced the cheap cord. What can one expect for an amp made in china. Its a good amp for the price. I bring a back-up amp just in case. The sound is very good except for that lamination buzz. The amp made strange popping noises for a while then it stopped (when new). Also, it had a funny burning 'vinyl oder' (when new 0for about 3 weeks.

I would buy a fender amp, which I can't afford right now.I really like the pro-reverb amp. The sound of the amp is great for what I do.
I think taht if you buy it, don't order it on line like I did. Buy it from a store where you can test it out first to be sure it's OK.

When I read a review saying bad parts, bad this, bad that, how can they know. These people need a CRATE Practice amp with alot of grunge so the can play there 2 cord songs. This amp was designed by Dennis Kragger (world leader in desighning pro quality guitar amps.

Ok I guess, They just dont seem like guitar people. Kinda short with you on the phone, and dont really seem to know what they are saying. Ive talked to a few of them and they always controdict each other. Also they wont replace my fried tubes, what gives, all 4 of the power tubes have gone bad, with minimal use. On secont though the support is as cheap as the amp itself.

This is about as basic as you can get in a tube head. 1 channel of 60 screaming watts, three band EQ, one input, no stand-by. 2-6L6 power tubes, 4-12ax7a preamp/reverb tubes. But it has a few very cool features that really make this amp shine! A tube driven three spring reverb (I thought this would sound crappy) that really sounds awesome! Very full and powerful. A HI/LOW sensitivity switch which really affects the clean headroom but dosen't quite the amp. An effects loop, which I don't use, on the back panel, and the almighty Master Volume. Limiting to some, but everything I want and need in a small head. It sits nicely on a smaller scale 4x10 cabinet. All I could ask for wound be a true power-cut switch...like 15 or 20 watts. Also, the amp's front panel has large cutouts behind the grill cloth (for cooling reasons I'm sure) but the result is glowing tubes shinning through! Very cool!

I play Telecasters, all set up differently and run through a Fender tuner-Morley Pro Wha/Volume-CoolCat Chorus-TS9 Tube Screamer-Daddy O Overdrive-Phsyco Flange. All in front of the amp. My effects stay pretty transparent...more color then effect. Except the Phsyco...haven't quite figured out what to do with that! I have put the Tubescreamer in the loop on other amps and have had good results just setting it up to run all the time but have not tried this with the Pig yet. This head is running through a 4x10 Carvin Tweed cab.
This is a tool for a wide range of players! Damn good overdrive-OVERDRIVE-not distortion. I may even drop one of my pedals! Beautiful reverb (better IMO then any of my Fenders I've had). Plenty of headroom, I believe I could play my accustic throught this if needed. I'm one of the older players out there but I do go for variety...from The Replacements, Tom Petty, and Big Head Todd to Weezer, Blink 182, and a bunch of Skynard and other Redneck music (Drive By Truckers!)
All my guitars are rigged differently and each one has a unique voice with this amp. This can be frustrating at times because I have to spend a little time dialing in the tone, but it also, IMO, is the sign of a good tube amp. Ever try to get your own sound through a modeling amp? This amp shines with Delta Tone pickups, sounds gritty with Tex-Mex's and is a little ice picky with my Seymore Duncan JD. My overwound GoldenAge Humbucker gets me into Black Sabbath territory...which looks a little foolish coming out of a tweed cabinet!

Okay. Here is the full scoop. I was looking to buy a Reverend Hellhound head but was getting the runaround from the company. I was told in Feb.(03) that they would have heads by early June. I hung onto my Blues Deville until then. I ebayed my Fender, called Reverend and was told that the heads would be availible in late August! I was basically ampless! After researching my options, and studying ebay for a few days, I decided I would go with Pignose. My Pig G20 had been keeping my going all this time.
I ordered the head from baystatemusic.com but found a cheaper price the next day. David, at baystate, matched the price with no hassle. My head arrived in two days striat from Pignose in Las Vegas. I eagerly unpacked it, pluged it in, turned it on and...BUZZZZZ!!! I thought my speakers were going to blow! I could get no overdrive and only had about 15 watts of output. I unplugged my guitar and the buzzing kept right on going. I called Pignose and was told that I probably had a bad 12ax7a. "Just try another tube." I live in the middle of nowhere but I happened to have 4 tubes on hand. None of them did any good. No mention of the 90 day tube warranty either!
I emailed David at baystate and told him what was going on. He got on it right away and stayed in touch with me every step of the way. GREAT customer service!! I also emailed Pignose and told them what was up. They too responed quickly. I was told to call the service department and talk to them. Turns out they are in New Jersey. This is intresting: The service department guy told me I could either send this BRAND NEW amp to him (on my dollar) and they would fix it, or I could "take my chances on another amp" by sending mine back! Its as though they expect these Chinese made amps to just not work right out of the box!
I'm too old and have played too long to be in the name game, but I really started to doubt my decision. I told David that if Pignose didn't make this B.S. right, then I was going to return the amp and ask for a refund. I think he was cool with that.
I was pretty damn mad and just boxed up the head and shipped back to Pignose with a letter stating that I expected an exchange for a head that works out of the box. I bought this amp to play my guitars through, not test out Pignose's warrany procedures!! I got no email or phone call, but I'm glad to say that I got a new amp. Its the one I'm raving about.
If you are going to purchase one of these, try to play it in a store and buy the one you play. Or you may just spend an extra $20.00 to ship it back! I know Pignose isn't the first amp company to ship out a lemon. I have a buddy who spent over $2000.00 on a boutique half stack and the reverb didn't work. I am happy that it all worked out though I wish someone would acknowledge my cash to send the lemon back! Any more problems and I'll update. I'm sure the Chinese tubes will need replaced and I'll let you know how long they last...at least they work!

It all worked out in the end. Pignose did the right thing and David at baystatemusic.com was very supportive. Bottom line...I received a bad amp, sent it back, and now have one that works.

I've been strumming and pickin' for 20+ years and still play at least an hour every day. I used to call it practicing, but who am I kidding?! I've had quite a bit of gear over the years, and have figured out that a few select pieces of gear that match your style and personality are what's important. And my wife and kids can live with my "affordable" addiction!
I would buy this head again and may get another just as a back up. Its a long way to Guitar Center from here! This amp has everything I need and I didn't pay for the bells and whistles that I never seem to use. I didn't really buy this for the cheap price because I believe in quality equipment, I bought it for its simplicity. I've only owned one solid state amp, other then my Pig G20, and that was WAY back when. I feel like this amp is as good, and in many ways, better then the other tube amps I've owned. Its small and light, has really great tone, amazing tube reverb, and I hope it lasts me for a long time. Probably not your dream amp, but I have never found one. And I can work with a good foundation tone which this amp really has.
As I said before, I was looking at Reverend. I also considered a Laney TT20H head. This looks like a nice amp also. It came down to wanting a small sized, tube head with reverb, that would give me a great base tone to build on. And I spent much less on The Pignose and got everything I wanted. A lot of gear is made overseas today, and most of it is pretty damn good quality. If the Pig was built in the U.S. you can bet your ass it would retail for $100.00's more.
Great product and I recommend you try one just to see if its for you.

I bought this tube amp new on line. It was made in China. I don't know the year it was manufactured but I would suppose it was at least made in the year 2001. I play blues, R & B, and some classic rock. It is not that versatile- has basically one sound- clean- with a little break-up when opened up. The amp has one channel, with bass, midrange, and treble. It sounds good for what I do and has plenty ofpower- 60 watts. I use an Ibanez Super chorus, Boss Blues Driver, and a Dunlop Crybaby for effects.

I use a Fender Stat Plus with Texas Special Pickups. ( I did't like the Lace Sensors it came with). It suits my musical style, mainly blues. When I first turned it on it made these weird popping sounds
for about 40 minutes, then it stopped.( Chinese 6l6's?) Then after a few weeks of use, it developed a stange hum. When I turned off the
volume, I could still hear something vibrating. I traced the sound to a transformer. I sent it to Dennis Krager in New Jersey. ( Since it was under warranty). When I called Dennis,He said that he didn't hear anything. I told him to check it again. Later he admitted that there was a Lamination buzz. I also had asked him to replace the Chines 6l6's with another set of tubes, which he did. He replaced them with sovteks. He called Pignose and they said that they would not replace the transformer ( an expensive item). So, I have to put up with the
noise which isn't too loud but is nonetheless annoying. And, they will NOT take it back. So I'm stuck with basically nice sounding amp
with a tranformer lamination buzz. Too bad. They will never get an endorsement from me.
The amp distorts at high volumes. Sounds something like a Fender Bassman, but with reverb.

I would not use this amp without a backup- my trusty, built like a tank Lab Series Amp - made in 1977. I have to use this until I can afford a better amp. I probably should of bought a used Fender.
By the way, the amp had for about two months a strong vinyl odor.Needless to say, I am not happy with the way I was treated by
the company.

I love the clean sound. I hate the annoying lamination buzz. I bought this because a friend recommended it. I couldn't afford a new fender

This amp does not have alot of knobs or switches. It does not have alot of features. It has GREAT TONE! The all-tube "vintage" design with point-to point wiring(!) is the main feature of this amp. For it's price range, there is no better way to get great tone for little money.

With a Gibson SG standard, and a 10' cable, it sounds beautiful. It's tonal pallette ranges from warm and clean to glassy blues to full overdrive, all with the detail and warmth that you would expect from a vintage Fender tweed. Jazz , Blues, and Rock are well within the range of this amp's ability to satisfy. The distorted tone is very pleasing, but anyone looking for a good "metal" sound should look elsewhere. How many "metal" bands use vintage tweeds?
Reliability
:

It is built like a boulder. The cabinet is about 3/4" dense particle board with a thick, well done tolex covering. All corners are metal and the amplifier chassis and 6L6 power tubes are protected by a vented metal plate. The 12AX7 preamp and reverb drive tubes are shielded, and the tube sockets are all ceramic. With point-to-point wiring, you don't have to worry about cracked PC boards or condensation causing any real trouble. The stock tubes that it came with are of questionable durability, since they aren't branded in any way.
