Unsure as to when this amp was made. I play mainly Classic hair metal and new Metal and it's made me a believer in solid state amps. It has 2 channels and all the toys except reverb. That may mean something to you but I use a replifex for that so I don't need it. As for power, I needed to use the effects loop to get my clean channel to be powerful enough to keep up with dirt side. Because of this I give the amp a 9.

Sound Quality : 10
I play Kramer Stagemasters,Godan Artistian,Old Vandenburg and a U.S. Jackson Custom Tele with one emg 81 in her. All the other guitars have Seymour Duncan Full Shreds and one JB. This amp fits my style very nicely. I usually play through a Mesa Boogie Mark 3 or a 5150 because I love lots of bottom and high gain amps. I'm probaly gonna get hate mail for this comment...but the boogie sounds the worst of the 3 amps. Tha bottom end under any and all conditions is to dirty for my taste and isn't very clean. Unlike the Colosuss, it's crisp, dosen't muddy up, sounds the same at all volume levels,(to which the sound guy likes).I use a hush in my Replifex so I don't really get that much noise at all. Unlike a tradional tube amp like the Mark 3 or the 5150. This amp has a great clean tone and the distortion sounds like a JCM 800 with a tube screamer in front of it! I have finally found a my great guitar tone after 20 years.

Reliability : 10
This amp is still new to me so I haven't had any issues. I would never gig without a back due to a past experience where I did and my amp went down. The biggest thing I like is the fact that I'm not retubing every 3 months.

No Issues yet.

I've been playing for over 20 years. I have owned a Marshall JCM 800, Boogie 50 Cal. and Mark 3, Peavey 5150, ADA MP1 and MP2 (which I still love) and other Randall's and as of today I would pick my Colosuss.(Lets face it...how many guitar players are happy with their tone for more than a week?) The only other amp I would compare it to is the 5150 because of it's gain and overall tone. If it were stolen I would try to find another but if I couldn't there would be a 5150 in it's place. Remember I'm pretty much a Metal Player and for me this amp is just the ticket. I'm a Kiss fan but have never ever listened to Paul Stanleys tone and went WOW!!! I never really listened to their tone to be honest.

This is the Paul Stanley signature series amp head. I purchased the amp head in May 2002. This amp has everything I need. Two channels, clean and dirty. Each channel has it's own master and distortion control. It also has a series effects loop. You can change the channels by using the footswitch or the pull/push on the channel 1 knob. Other than the two channels, it has bass, mid-level, mid-freq, and high. Using the mid-level and mid-freg you can get that excellent scoop mids, a.k.a Marshal DSL/TSL.

I play mostly cover tunes so I need an amp that can play all types of music and this amp can do it all. However, Kiss, Van Halen, AC/DC, STP, and Aerosmith are my favorites.

The amp is 300 watts of solid state perfection. Basically, it's equal to a 100 watt tube head. Randall took the schematics of a Marshall amp and turned it into the Randall colossus. This amp can sound as good or better than any Marshall. I A/B'd this amp with a Marshall DSL 100, TSL 100, and a 5150. I would rate this amp equal to a Marshall DSL 100. The Colossus is setup much like the DSL without the tubes.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a couple of guitars with this amp. A standard Les Paul, A studio Les Paul, a Peavey Wolfgang, and the Washburn PS2000. I put Duncan pickups in all my guitars except the Wolfgang where the stock EVH custom is still in there.

For my style (top 40 covers, KISS, Metallica, Van Halen) this amp is perfect. It can do Blues, classic rock, 80's metal, 90's grunge, and nu-metal. You cannot tell the difference between my Randall and my other guitar players amp, the Marshall DSL100.

The clean channel can be nashville clean or classic distortion (O/D). The 2nd channel is the best. It can go from an O/D sound on 1 or 2 to a hotrod JCM800 on 4-5, to an all out - kick you in the balls, distortion on 10. I tested the clean channel on high volumes and I didn't notice any breakup unless I added some distorition to it. The 2nd channel distortion is excellent. You want old school, it's there, you want 80's metal, it's there. To get the nu-metal sound just dial in the distortion.

I bought the amp to be my backup to my Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100. I ended up replacing the DSL100 with this amp until I found out Randall stop making these. With Paul Stanley's name on it I know it will be worth something down the road. Now, I only play it in my home studio. I would love to find another one just so I have two. I've been searching around and I cannot find these amps anywhere. I guess this amp was a limited run but well worth it. If you have one hold on to it and keep it in excellent shape. It may pay for your children's college one day.

As for reliability, I have had no problems with this amp. I baby this thing so if anything does go wrong Randall and I will be talking. Hopefully that will never happen.

The only time I dealt with Randall was when they lost my order for the RS412PS cabinet. Which will be in another post.

I have heard a lot of terrible things about Randall's customer support. Thank God I haven't dealt with them. The amp does come with a 5 year warranty. The down side is you have pay for shipping if you cannot find a warranty repair service in your area. Randall needs to change this policy.

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 13 years and also own four other amps. A Marshall JCM 2000 DSL 100 and TSL 100, 5150, and a Peavey Bandit. Several Boss pedals, Dunlop Wah, and a Yamaha FX 550.

If this amp was stolen I would call my insurance agency and demand payment immediately so I can look for another Colossus amp.

I love the simplicity of the amp and the power it has. This is the only solid state amp I would use in recording or playing live, ever.

I do which it had a true by-pass effect loop. But they stayed true to the Marshall schematics.

If Randall marketed the amp better it would have been a classic. I cannot believe that a lot of players do not know about this amp. On second thought, it's a good thing 'cause I own one of the few gems.
