this is a solid state, 2 channel amp head. It also has an effects loop. The channels are switchable with a footswitch, but I only use the distortion channel.

this amp has THE most brutal, heavy, and crushing distortion I have ever played.I would not even consider playing through another amp. I have owned marshalls, mesa boogies, peavys, and every other amp out there looking for the heaviest, tightest crunch you can find and this randall is the one. This amp is so loud it can easily compare to a mesa boogie triple rectifier(which I previously owned). If you want an amp with a clean channel too, I would not recomend using this one for clean sounds. The distortion bleeds through into the clean channel, making it impossible to get pure clean sounds. It is kind of annoying. I don't use the clean channel anyway. I use a seymour duncan distortion pickup, and put a sonic maximizer and a boss eq pedal in the effects loop, to get the sound I want. I use a boss ns-2 to keep the whole thing quiet. It is very loud and sounds best turned up loud. Everything tightens up real nice. I play hardcore and metal.

this amp is solid state ,and i would not even consider playing anything else. I have never had any problems with this amp. I bought it used, but in excellent condition.

I have been playing for 10 years, and in that time, i've wasted thousands of dollars on amps that I didn't like. I would have to buy this amp again if something were to happen to it.

I play mostly metal and hardcore.
I bought this amp for the distortion tone. For me, it is exactly what I want, crunchy and meaty with just the right amount of midrange.
Bands like Crowbar and Pantera spring to mind. It does hum a little on higher settings but I don't mind that much.
The amp will do more than killer metal tones, though. I would describe the clean channel as a transparent and prestine reproduction of your guitar's tone. I can coax a Pepper Keenan-ish type sound out of it by boosting the mids and highs and backing off the gain some. I can even get some classic rock sounds. Over all it is a very versitile amp but I think that metal is what is does best.

I called Randallonce and thay were kind of rude. I hope that that was an isolated event.

The only thing I wish it had was separate eqs for each channel so I could use a distortion pedal on the clean channel and switch between that and the distortion channel.
