i don't know what year this amp was made. its a weird model of the rg100's. it has a toggle switch instead of a pull knob for the compression circuit. i've owned at least 5 different rg100's, and its the first i've seen like it. channel switching is a bitch if you don't have the proprietary six-pin switch.(which are hard to come by). its solid state, 120 watts, effects loop, and basic eq, and controls. has more than enough power to cut through in a band setting, with 2 guitarists. in fact, its as loud as most tube amps with the same wattage.

this thing is mostly suited for heavy rock/metal. its not very subtle.
the clean stays clean, except for the highest gain settings on the clean channel. the distortion is awesome on this amp. it sounds similar to an older jcm marshall. i use a maxon od808, to boost it into death metal territory. i use a ltd horizon, neck-thru, with emg 85's, into a maxon od808, to the amp, and its the perfect death/grind tone for me. tons of gain, tons of depth, and clarity. i don't even use my noise gate with it, at volume. i give it an 8 on its own, a 10 with a boost. honestly, i've owned several different heads over thw last 10 yrs, but keep coming back to the rg100's. check out my band site at: diavolo803.com. all our demos were made with the randalls.

i've been playing almost 18yrs, and have owned at least 10-15 quality heads, and the randalls owns them all for metal. the newer randalls cower in fear of this pig....................

120 Watt Pre-Washburn Randall. Good for metal. Very Loud. Carpeted version. Wish my clean channel worked, but other than that it is awsome. Has a courtousy outlet.

I use Jackson Guitars with EMGs and Dimarzio Evolution Pick ups. It works perfectly for Shred metal, you can hear every note clearly. Not noisy at all, I would recomend turning it as loud as you can, the louder the better. Very good for Blues (Channel one) and of course Metal (channel two). One of the most brutal distortions ever.

Only thing wrong with it is that I bought it used and the clean channel is a little messed up but I dont really care about it any way. I would definatly gig with out a back up. The amp is almost 20 and sounds better than bran new Marshalls.

Iv'e been playing for only 3 and a half years and have played several amps. I also own a Peavey Ultra Plus head, it does sound thicker than the Randall but for what I paid for it, it doesn't even compare. I use both in stereo and I swear Iv'e got the best sound in my area. If they both were stolen, I'd get another Randall and just use it. I love the way it sounds, the way it looks, love everything about it, except the broken clean channel. I just wish I had another one!
