Features : 9
2009 model
Hand Crafted Pine Cabinet with Tweed Covering and Oxblood Grille. Power Scaling, you can set the valve at full power and dial down the speaker volume nice for bedroom playing.
single channel amp
Has footswitchable boost.
Valve has selector switch that you can play with mine is round the back of the amp and is a bit a pain to put the guitar down and keep going round the back of the amp and selecting different sounds untill you find the setting you like. I am totaly used to it now and is not a problem for me.
Has a second speaker output to run a cab of choice.
I didnt have a Line level or headphone socket but the man at RAT has built me a special box at no extra cost to go into my second speaker output that sorts all these problems out.
Has enough power for me is very loud or as quiet as I need it to be late at night without losing any tone.

Sound Quality : 10
Sound Quality is just amazing. It very quiet no hiss or humm. The amps can make all the sounds I need. Distortion is not brutal but thats nothing a pedel cant fix.

Reliability : 5
Have only just bought it so wait and see. Id like to give it a netural rating because of this.

Customer Support : 10
I have dealt with the Man behind these great amps and the customer support is vey good and very fast, he made me up a little box to plug into the back of the amp that sorted out my recording needs at no extra cost. I am indeed very happy.

Features : 10
Pure tube (valve) class A combo guitar amplifier, 7 watts RMS / 14 watts peak output.

1. Hand Crafted Pine Cabinet with Tweed Covering and Oxblood Grille
2. Power Scaling ??? with Power Scale 'PS1' and 'PS2' Settings to dial down the volume from 7 watts to 0.1 watt, whilst maintaining output valve harmonic overdrive / distortion
3. Dual Output Valves 'EL84' -or- 'OCTAL' (6V6GT) with 'MIX' Control
4. Twin Rectifiers - Silicon or Valve (EZ81)
5. Variable 'SAG' Control
6. Modulus' 15SE Output Transformer
7. Series Effects Loop with send level control
8. Headphone Socket
9. Eminence 12" 'Lady Luck', 70 Watt, 16 Ohm Speaker.
10. All Top and Lower Panel Controls have Been Point-to-Point 'Hand Wired' into the Amp.
11. Three Position 'Bias' Switch.
12. Three Position 'Gain' Switch.
13. Drive, Tone and Master Controls
14. Standby Switch.
15. Line Out Socket.
16. Two Speaker Outputs and 'Impedance' Select - 4, 8 and 16 Ohms.
17. Electro Harmonix '12AX7EH' Preamp Valve & '6V6GT' Power Output Valve & 'EL84' Power Output Valve & JJ 'EZ81' Rectifier Valve.

This is the most versatile amplifier I have had, given the dual output valves and also the variable rectifier circuit (valve versus silicon diode). Allows me to obtain a wide range of sounds, from Marshall through Vox to Fender.

One channel - which is fine for studio / recording purposes, though if playing live, it would be great if the gain and bias switches could be footswitchable!

The powerscaling feature is simply incredible and allows the power to be dialled down to 0.1 watt. PS1 affects only the output valves, whilst PS2 affects both pre-amp and output valves to get that Van Halen brown out tone - but at a sensible volume. Very nice for use at home and for recording.

The 3 position 'Bias' Switch allows different voicings of the amp.

A. - Position '1' is 'Clean and Mellow' - This Setting utilises 'Negative Feedback' (NFB) Direct from a Coil on the output transformer. NFB keeps the Amp 'Clean' by feeding some of the Speaker Output Signal 'BACK' to a Previous Stage in the Amp Circuitry, creating a 'Cancelling' effect and reducing Distortion and Volume.

B. - Position '2' is 'Sharp and Bright'- No 'NFB' and The Preamp Valve is Biased to match the 'Champ' Amp Sound.

C. - Position '3' is the 'High Gain' Sound - No 'NFB' and The Preamp Valve is Biased 'Hotter' to match Modern Valve Amps.

The 'Gain' Switch Has 3 Settings - Normal, Medium and High gain.

That gives a total of 9 different combinations of bias and gain settings - obviously quite a wide range of sounds...

I use a variety of guitars, Fender Strat and Tele with Kinman pickups (work particularly well with the 6V6), Gibson Les Paul (sounds incredible with the EL84) so this amplifier works well with both single coil and humbucker pickups.

My style of music is middle of the road, blues, soft rock - and this amp does it proud. I can play anything from Clapton, Eagles, Gary Moore through to Dave Gilmour through this amp and it sounds fabulous. This amp would be great for most styles style from jazz, through MOR to Classic Rock. The pre-amp gain would not be enough for heavy / thrash metal, but then you could always stick a pedal in front of it!

It's extremely quiet, pretty much the quietest amp I have possessed - and I sold a Laney Lionheart to get this amp. No regrets whatsoever!

Reliability : No Opinion
This amplifier appears to well built, though its too early to make a valid comment regarding long-term reliability.

Customer Support : 10
The manufacturer is very pleasant and helpful. There was some damage in transit, which was rectified promptly and efficiently (within 48 hours) by the manufacturer. The warranty is for 12 months and covers workmanship and all parts (except the valves).

I've been playing for 35 years. In the past I have owned a Fender Twin Reverb, Mesa Express 5:50, Laney Lionheart L5T-112 and a Marshall DSL401. All beautiful amps (except that the Mesa Boogie was very noisy), but none as versatile as this one.

If it were stolen, I'd buy another one is a heartbeat.

I love the purity of sound, the sheer versatility and the powerscaling feature, which allows me to get a cranked tone (with output valve distortion) at sensible volumes. The powerscaling feature also reportedly prolongs the life of the output valves. Also the ability to 'mix' between the two output valves - and obtain a smooth spectrum of tone ranging from Fender to Marshall (somewhat like the ISF control on the Blackstar HT pedals. except that this is more authentic, working at the output valves rather than the preamp valve, like the Blackstar).

Since both output valves are independent 'Cathode Bias' there is no need to re-Bias the amp if I wanted to try different valves. The '6V6GT' is also inter-changeable with a '6L6GC' - (I haven't tried that yet).

I wish it had an in-built reverb though...
