However, I give this an 8 because of it's minimalistic approach. No bells and whistles is JUST FINE w/me. I wanted something just as simple as this amp, hence the "10". I plan to throw some effects in front the amp, reverb and such. But the magic here is in the simplistic design.

Again, another ten...... I play alot of traditional music (folk, bluegrass, blues, etc) via 40's ES-150. The low end response is unreal. I can feel my CAL Weber working hard when I hit those low notes. Turn it up to 2-3 o'clock and the sound gets vintage. It just gets creamier the louder you go. My favorite tone, although, is around Noon. I typically crank the amp to 11 and control the volume off my guitar. Loud enough to wake the cat is the truth!!! Distortion, to me, sounds like killer N. Young style distortion. It's perfect.

Ok, here's my story w/Paul: After looking hi & low for a simplistic (and affordable class A), I stumbled on http://redironamps.com. Spoke w/Paul on the amp (he's very easy to talk to/find) and within 10 mins. I found myself w/the 5 watt on it's way. Upon arrival, amp fired up fine however I had issues w/the output noise/sound. Over the next 2 weeks Paul made sure this amp was working to my desires (this included sending me 4 spare preamp tubes to make this happen). I cannot express enough my gratitude to Paul, as he completely stands behind his amps. Of course, over time I decided to purchase ANOTHER 5watt and run them stereo. Talk about a huge sound!

See reliability......another 10 here too! Paul is the best, most professional "sound person" in my 20 years of music. I'm recommending him and his products to everyone. There is a distinct sound to his amps......it's deep and dark and ooooozing w/warmth.

For beautiful tone, and a cool looking amp. Can't beat the price. I can't imagine w/this will sound like w/some sweet vintage EL-84s!!!

I have been pleasantly surprised with this class A amp. Cliches like "less is more" or the acronym "K.I. S. S." principle best describe this amp. One volume control is all that is needed. Really. Tube complement: 1-6x4 rectifer, 1-6sn7 preamp, & 1- 6bq5/el84, Banna jacks for speaker input. The tone starts at 10:00-12:00 o'clock clean & crisp. 12:00-3:00 o'clock the compression kicks in with a great blend.3:00-6:00 o'clock drive, drive. It's so simple. I used a 12" Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, 2 10" Jensen's & 12" Blue back concert series Jensen.

I used an American Telecaster & PRS.I get some background hissing through the Celestion speaker. It may be the speaker or my Tele does'nt have noisless pick-ups.

I will relace my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with this 5 watt amp.I have confidence using this as my main amp. It is plenty loud enough for most venues, assuming you're mic it through the house.I can not comment on reliabilty

Paul Sanchez with Red Iron Amps (www.redironamps.com) is the man behind it's development. Good communication, succinct information. I can not comment on warranties, but I believe Paul Sanchez will stand behind his products.
