Everyone else has covered it except mine has four inputs, two twelve inch marsland speakers and is driven by two el84's. Made in the early 60's by Lifco out of Montreal, Canada. Seems like each input has its own 12AX7 tube. One channel with tremelo.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
Awesome tone!!! So warm, so rich!!! Driven clean gives sweet bell like tone. Driven harder it breaks up imperceptably according to your touch into a classic blues amp from the early 1960's. No noise. Takes quality pedals well with little effect noise. Play many styles according to the audience and it has never broken my heart. I drift into my own blues world and loose all track of time. It's that hypnotic. It's a rare gem. I am blessed.

Reliability : 9
The amp was not well taken care of before I received it. Somebody thought they were an amp tech and did some fancy wiring to probably fix somethig simple like a worn tube or cap. Took it to my own tech who had to do his own rewiring(ptp) to fix it right. That was twenty years ago and with new tubes every so often (el84) I've had harmonic bliss.

Customer Support : 1
None! The company called Lifco has long passed away.

Been groovin' an the strings for the past fourty years. From bluegrass and folk to pop and rock I have had my time in many genres. From bars and top of flat-bed trucks to concert halls and church services my hobby has identified myself werever I go. My home recording studio includes a Classic 30, a Model 2 Kalamazoo, Fender hotrod deluxe with gibson 335, fender tele deluxe, schecter plus(a PRS clone) and various sundry bluegrass acoustic instuments. My blues stage in my life has been quantitatively effected by this precious old girl.

this amp was made in 1962 Montreal by a company called Lifco - the amp being called Regal...it has reverb, tremolo, 2 inputs (one for clean, one for the FX)

the 5 means nothing - it's just it doesn't have all the goofy bells and whistles amps tday are made with - and who cares!?

Sound Quality : 10
OMG it sounds as good as any $2000 amp i would own. tone is so versatile and sweet - and it can get LOUD too.

for jazz or rock or blues, it's so perfect.

Reliability : 10

have never had a problem with it in 30 + years. ultra rare of course, making it priceless...i would probably pay anything to get another. good luck finding another.

just use some 12AX7 tubes on it and use some Jensen or Celestion Speakers, and you have the envy of guitar amp geeks.

Customer Support : No Opinion
none...the company doesn't exist anymore. although if you know how to tweak your own amps...

Overall Rating : 10
against every amp that one could list, it stacks.

if it were stolen, i could only buy a Fender Blackface for thousands to replaces it...nothing to hate about it.

If you can find one of these, and again: good luck!! - then by all means baby!...

Not sure what year it is. It's as versatile as I could ask for as I'm an acoustic player/harp player. I think it needs new tubes. As soon as I crank it up enough to compete with the kidz it starts breaking up.

Sound Quality : 10
I play a Yamaki acoustic that I bought back in the late 70's. Just a couple yrs ago I put a Martin Thinline in it. It sounds so warm I may never go new-tech for an amp. Then you plug a old condensor mic into it and have a pull on your harp! Man! It's sooo sweet! I still can't believe I paid $10.00 for it with a 20' cord at a garage sale! It really deserves the 12 that we've all wished we had on the old volume control.-)

Reliability : 9
Seems great so far...

HA!

I've been playing for about 30 yrs. I'd be heart broken if we had to part. I'd buy any one I come across. It's a really nice, warm, lightweight amp that I'd be fine taking anywhere. (as soon as I take it to my local tube guru.-)

This Canadian-made amp was bought back in 1965 in Montreal by my grand-parents for my uncle to play guitar. He played it actively all along the swingin' 60s up until the 70s. The amp was than stored until 2004 when I bought it to complete my amp collection because I didn't have a valve amp. Therefore, it is almost in mint condition. The Regal is a very raw and basic amp; it only has a volume, a tone and a vibrato control (all on the amp's top like a Vox amp). It's a small 20watt valve amp looking as raw as its controls: A silver paper-covered (it's not tolex, believe me !) plywood box (20x18x12 inches) with a black & silver grill cloth where the name 'Regal' is printed (being the only decoration on the amp) ! It also has four inputs (which is alot). The amp was made and distributed in Canada during the sixties. Its parts (capacitors and pots) are from a company named Shen-Ei. Even though the amp is small, has such few controls and is not versatile at all, it sounds great !

Sound Quality : 10
I had to change its speaker because the original one was genuine crap (a Marsland, I wonder if it still exists) ! I got a Jensen to replace the odd speaker and found out that the amp's sound was excellent. It sings ! I also had to replace all of the five valves. It has a really smooth and jazzy sound. Sometimes, the valves break up very soon even at lower volumes; I think replacing a few capacitors (they are more than 40 years of age) could fix the problem. But the distortion coming out of it is sweet and very warm. It has absolutely no hiss or hum or any odd sound. It's a perfect amp to play jazz or old vintage rock & roll.

Reliability : 10
It is so raw and simple and has survived through all those years... I think the Regal is a very dependable amp (even though it was probably the cheapest amp at its time) ! Of course, I had to change its speaker and valves but I would also have changed those on a Blackface !

Customer Support : No Opinion
Forget it !

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing for 14 years and I own 2 Gibsons, 2 Strats, a Jaguar LesPaul and a few others along with my Roland JC77 and Fender M80 (you can see my other reviews), and of course my uncle's old Regal ! Of course, the amp is very cheap, is no legend like a Blackface, has no options and is 'powerless', but it's uncomparable with anything I've seen or heard ! Being in such a good shape after all those years is also incredible. I can't get rid of my Regal and it is a part of family-history, so it is priceless to me. When I get too nostalgic I just play an old blues or 'The House of the Rising Sun' just like my uncle used to in the 60s ! If it would break down, I would fix it; if it was stolen, I don't know what would happen... So don't touch it please !

By todays standards, this amp has virtually no 'features'... 2 channels, each with a volume and tone control + Tremolo (Speed and Intensity). Please don't think my moderate numeric rating implies that I don't like/love this amp... I'm simply stating that, once again by today's standards, the list of 'features' just doesn't stack up.

Sound Quality : 10
I use a wide, wide variety of guitars through this thing and they all yield the sweetest, smoothest sound you could ever imagine. Les Pauls, Strats, 335, 175, Firebird, Hofner, Ibanez Artist, + many more... this IS my absolute favorite amplifier to play through. It's clean, it's warm, it's broad in the tone controls, and it can get fat and gritty if you lay into it... Especially if I make a hard run with a Les Paul with a 20db onboard booster pre.

Reliability : 10
I bought this unit used in 1980 from the guy in upstate NY who played piano for Eddie Fisher (You know, the guy who married Debbie Reynolds and sired Princess Leah from StarWars?) when they were in the army together many moons ago. (Thanks Red, I'll always remember ya!) He had used it as an amp for his electric piano. The grill cloth was a bit ragged and the carry handle was missing but even at that, it was well worth the $30 I paid for it. It's been used regularly but not frequently since with no issues ever. Other than the grill cloth, it is all original (and still missing the carry handle). People think it seems ridiculous to have a road case built for hundreds of dollars to protect a $30 investment... not so in this case! It is the heart and soul of this little amp I need to protect... she truly is REGAL and worth protection at all costs!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had a problem, never had to look for any support but it is safe to say that the age and rarity of this little gem pretty well ensures that the acquisition of ANY information or expecting ANY usable level of customer support is merely a pipe dream. My guess is that if you cant trace a circuit yourself and possess a reasonable understanding of tube based amplifier electronics (or know someone who does that you can trust), you're pretty much screwed here.

Overall Rating : 10
The question is if it were stolen or lost, would I buy it again or get something else?... My only thoughts are it could NEVER be replaced so I pity the fool who ever got caught stealing this from my collection. Bullets would fly, blood would flow... this little sweety is with me til I die!

This amp is from 1962.
This Regal is one of the best guitar amps I've ever used, on top of that it does almost everything.
I have used it as a keyboard amp, a microphone amp, and an acoustic guitar amp, it does all
of them beautifully.
There are two channels, one has a slightly higher impedence than the other, which allows
different guitar response from each channel, that's cool.

Sound Quality : 10
10 isn't high enough for this amp. It absolutely sings!!!!
At low volumes, it sounds very smooth and creamy.
As you turn it up, it gets sweeter. The tubes start to break a little and you get a
compression effect from the rectifier.
The sustain is incredible and it has a great bluesy distortion to it.

I play a Les Paul Standard with humbuckers (of course). If you switch to the neck pickup,
it solos like a dream. It's so smooth.

Reliability : 10
This amp has never failed me and as far as I can tell, the rectifier and preamp tubes are original.
That's pretty amazing.

When I bought it, for $45, it was crackling due to a bad output transformer and torn speaker.

After a tuneup and a new Celestion, it's bulletproof.

I can't believe that someone else has one of these, I can't find any documentation anywhere
that these were ever made. Apparently, they were an inexpensive version of the Fender Blackface amps.
The sound out of this thing is not low budget.

It's got a sweeter clean sound than a $1500 Mesa amp.

If you ever see one of these, pic it up!!!

The year is 1962, The only reason that i know this is; I dated all the Pots and trannsformers to 1962. I hope i got the model right, A couple of the letters on the amp model were scratched.

2 Channels, ! Normal, 1 with Tremolo...
Reverb wasn't an option yet !

Sound Quality : 10
Okay, This is the Best Part, This Amp Screams !! The Closest that i can relate it to is a Fender Blackface Deluxe. It has 2 6V6 Power Tubes.
I ususally play through my Les Paul Standard Or, ES-335TD, Or, My USA Strat. Or Tele.
The Amp doesn't really start to breath till you crank it up to 5 to 6, Then, Fasten your your seatbelt !!

Reliability : 10
This amp has never given me any problems of any kind, It has a JBL D120F from the factory, I've owned it since the 70's, I paid a whooping $100.00 for it.
It has the Rough Blonde Tolex with the Oxblood Grill Cloth.
It say's right on the amp, Regal, Distribuuted by Fender Sales, Santa Ana Calif.
No one has ever heard Nor seen anything like this. I think i have a 1 of a kind Screaming/Sleeper Amp!!!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never had to use any kind of tech support. I think Leo had something to do with this amp ?

Overall Rating : 10
I've been playing Guitar since 1968. If it ever got stolen, My Heart would Melt !!

This amp definitely has the Blackface Fender Sound !!

If you find one, Which i seriously don't think anyone ever will, Snag it !!
