4-channel Rocktron VP4 by Egnater preamp. Not sure what year. Clean, Crunch, Distortion and Mega channels. Create any tone you like. Fender, Mesa, Marshall etc...
Midi switching only no effects loop (bummer)
All Valve (10 of them!)
Us it live primarily as a backup to my POD.

Sound Quality : 8
It has 4 channels.
Clean- Nice with plenty of headroom before breakup
Crunch- Fender classic style breakup
Distortion- Marshall plexi styled channel
Mega- High gain heaps of headroom
I have two Musicman Axis sports, POD XTLive, 535q wah and OC3.
All styles can be catered for here.
I thought it sounded a bit Mid-range honky so i changed the primary 12ax7's for some low gain 5751 and this improved it greatly. I am going to change all the valves with the 5751's at some stage.
Only channel that will give you noise will be the Mega channel, but after all what high gain valve amp won't. Noise gate it if you like.

Reliability : No Opinion
Have only used it a few times. It's solid so there shouldn't be any problems.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Haven't had to deal with Rocktron before. It's second hand so your best to have your own tech anyway.

These retail in Australia for something like $4200? I don't know why, they don't seem to be worth the money to me. You could buy an AC30 and a few pedals and still have change. However it is very versitile unlike a Fender, VOX of Marshall. It would be a great studio option to have at your disposal.

its a midi controlled 4 channel all valve pre amp.ten 12ax7's to be precise .Each channel is simple gain, bass ,mid, teble, master.could probally do with a presence control but most preamps have that so it doesn't matter really.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm using a ibanez gem (11-49 Gauge strings,The only way to get tone !!string volume)>vendetta preamp>ART T2 effects processor>mesa boogie 50/50 power amp> laney quad or celstion quad, cotrolled via a GMC foot controller. This is all I need to get all the beautiful tone i need.
I never knew these existed.I've been using a roctron vudoo valve for years and just recently sold my hughes and kettner triamp as i was used to having midi control.Hit one foot pedal and it changes channel, effects etc...
it got too complicated with so many pedals and on high gain the noise was awful. So i went back to my beloved vudoo valve.
Any ways i saw one on ebay and went for it.The second i cranked it, it was what i wanted. Before i bought it i read all the other vendetta reviews and no one had anything bad to say about it.I know why!
these must be rare as nobody in australia knows nothing about it.
The two high gain channels are awsome and sound completely different.Channel 3 is like a mesa.Very ballsy and the sovtek valves through out make keep the tone very warm.It sounds ALL VALVE!!.channel 4 i use for leads just makes me want to play all day.its bright and the harmonics are lovely.Tone !Tone !tone!!!!!The gain channels are thick and beefy. But as stated in other reviews if you use distortion to cover sloppy playing your in trouble as the gain here isn't brutal but pure.Just like Vai's Legacy amp if your a crappy player it will stick out like dogs balls!
Now here is where the preamp is weak. The clean channel 1 is kinda crap.Ichanged the valves to groove tubes and this helped but the rest i leave up to the ART unit and it brings it up to my liking. Its really not that bad but after getting used to the clean of the H&K(which is the best!)Its a bit of a let down and to compete with the volume of the gain channels you have to turn it all the way up and the gain channels down.
Channel 2 is a beefed up version of this one and if you want that dirty fender sound this it where you'll find it.
Ive owned alot of amps and this is the best tone machine I've had .
Its time to surrender my vudoo valve for a real tube machine.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had it for a month but if previous rocktron products are any thing to go by this thing will last forever

Customer Support : No Opinion
Never ever needed it so i don't know.

If this was ever stolen I would kill for another.I don,t know where to find one but would probally have to get a vendetta head.
I've been playing for 15 years and like mostly alternative music but that incorparates alot of styles. This is suited to any style.
The guy "Egnator" did a good job when he designed this.It sounds much better than the crappy JMP-1 and has more tone than a ADA .If you get a chance to pick one of these up go and get it.You dont have to pay for those botique amps to get nice tone
For the price i payed I'm very happy and praise god for Ebay!!!!

Mine was made in 2003 I guess. The preamp is very versatile. It is very suitable to get really usuable pop sounds. Don't expect extreme metal sounds from this thing. I wish it had a fx loop though. Now I am only able to use it with serial fx. It is btw midi switchable, so I am looking to get a G major...

Sound Quality : 10
The sounds of this pre are absolutely fenomenal! I have no complaints about it, but you might have some... It must fit your style. It is not suitable for metal. The gain of this amp is enough for me and it is really extremely quiet! That is the main feature I love about this amp. It is so quiet, so there is no need for a noise gate. And without a noisegate you have much more dynamic control over your sounds.

No experiences yet. Expect no problems, build like a tank.

Also no experiences in this area.

I have been playing for ten years now. I mainly play pop music, so I need to have good usuable sounds in a band setting. Maybe it doesn't have your dreamtones in it, but it does have good usuable sounds in a band setting. Guaranteed! I have compared it to the Marshall JMP1, which is absolutely no match for it. As you notice, I really love this preamp. Wish it had a fx loop though, but wtf... I don't need fx cause my preamp sounds nice by itself!
