A single-rack space power amp, provides 60 watts per channel stereo
or 120 watts mono-bridged when driving an 8 ohm load. kinda basic...

Sound Quality : 10
I use PRS custom 22 and Schecter C-1 elite(w/SD,jb pickups) guitars, ampswitch to a modded jmp-1 and a Hughes & Kettner Tubeman MKII, Rocktron Super C Hush, also a bunch of pedals, and then 2 marshall classic cabs running with celestions, greenbacks and v30s...

I think the Velocity power amp sounds great!!! doesn't colour the sound though, but that's not what I want. I've hade the Marshall EL 34, and the MESA 20/20. And I ended up with the Velocity. It plays LOUD, and doesn't weight that much either. People always ask me why I use this cheap unit, and when the rackcase is back of the cabs, they always tell me how good the guitar sounds, and then ask me about my rig. I use it because it sounds great. Not noisy at all... I play this alternative rock, like the Used, SOTY... and it fits perfectly for me.

Reliability : 8
I've had this unit for 4 years, never broken down.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't know, never had to contact them. The unit is very easy to use.

Overall Rating : No Opinion
Like I said it sounds great! kinda boring cuz of it's reputation. Before you buy a power amp, compare a bunch to this unit. in the end it's all about personal taste. Hey my father doesn't like this poweramp at all. But I do... Just check out the Rocktron Velocity power amp!

1 Rack space, stereo power amp that provides about 60WPC when driving 4ohm cabinets.

Sound Quality : 10
I play an Ibanez RG570 guitar into a Peavey Rockmaster preamp. The output of the rockmaster is plugged into a TC Electronics G-Major. The stereo outputs of the G-Major are plugged into the Velocity 120, which drives a pair of 8 ohm 1x12 cabinets with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.

This rig sounds absolutely amazing! The Velocity 120 sounds great. I had a Mesa 20/20 in my rig for about a year prior to using the Velocity 120. The Mesa has a mid boost to it that exagerates the mids too much for my taste, and it also has a relatively noisy fan that I found annoying when I practised at bedroom volumes. Also, after about 8 months of moderate use the Mesa 20/20 started to sound weak on the bass and had a loss of presence - I had to replace the output (EL84) tubes already!!! The Velocity 120 doesn't have any of these problems.

Reliability : 9
The only minor issue I've found with the Velocity 120 is that sometimes it makes a bit of a pop sound when powering it on/off. I contacted tech support & they informed me that this is normal. Any ways, it isn't loud enough to worry about.

Also, the amp will get hot if you drive 4 ohm speakers on each channel. The best thing to do is leave a blank rack space above it to provide adequate ventilation. I run it into 8 ohm cabinets & I haven't experienced any heat-related problems at all. I've been using this amp exclusively for about 3 years & counting.

Customer Support : 10
They replied to my email in less than a day & provided all the info that I needed.

This is a great amp. I think some people are not using it properly, based on some of the reviews below. I have three tips for them:

1) The definition controls boost the mids. So keep them fully counter clockwise for a flat, uncolored response.

2) Use 4 ohm (or higher) cabinets in stereo mode, or 8 ohm (or higher) cabinets in bridge-mono mode as the manual specifies, otherwise the amp will overheat at stage volumes.

3) leave an open rack space above this amp for ventilation. It's convection cooled & we all know heat rises, right?

same as the others!

Sound Quality : 4
This thing isnt all that great. (when it works) Sound is muddy through it and dose not sound good when cranked.

Reliability : 2
And when it is cranked it dies. Gets very hot like ive seen on other reviews. Ive owned other rocktrons before and this is bottom line.

Customer Support : No Opinion
don't know

Overall Rating : 3
Ive been playing for 8 yrs. and ive owned some nice things and some bad ones too. If it was stolen i would thank the thief for taking it out of my junk pile. Not worth the money, even if it is 50 bucks!

everything expected from a poweramp, definition control gives additional cut, i think there's mentioned enough above concerning the features...and it has a cool blue status LED

Sound Quality : 3
I use it with a Jackson guitar with Dimarzio pickups, a Vox Tonelab SE preamp, and i don't like the sound at all. I play Classic 80's Heavy Metal, the sound coming out of the Velocity has much too much mids and it sounds out of my Engl 4x12 cabinets a bit like through a trashcan. Clean sounds are acceptable, but with a shredding sound, it has now bottom and my bandmates liked to compare it with a banjo...

Reliability : 8
Never broke and never had any troubles with it.

Customer Support : No Opinion
never tried

Overall Rating : 5
Terrible Sounding, asking me. Maybe it depends on the musicstyle You use it with. But for Heavy Metal, there are far better ones for the same money e.g. the 8008 marshall

Basic power amp. Only one rack space. Very clean, quiet and loud.

Sound Quality : 8
I have a Peavey Rockmaster preamp and a quadraverb. I also have a PRS and a Fender Strat. I use the entire system including the Rocktron for everything from Blues to Heavy Metal. It is versatile. It does not add
any warmth to your sound or take anything away - it is transparent.

Reliability : 4
The biggest drawback for this thing is that it gets blazing hot if I turn it up to 4 or 5 and play for a while. It will even cut off when it gets too hot and have to be shut down and turned back on. I talked to Rocktron about it and sent it to them for repair. They were most unhelpful. Jim from Rocktron seems like a good guy, but their policies
are very poor. See next section.

Customer Support : 2
I bought this unit on-line as a new product with Warranty. After I sent the amp to Rocktron for repair, Patty explained that they do not waranty products that are bought on Auctions, even if it came from a music store and is sold as new with waranty. I went back and forth with them for 3 weeks, making about 12 phone calls and even had to get the music store involved (J&S - which did a great job in supporting me). Only after demanding that I talk to her boss did Patty from Rocktron get the go ahead. They said they would fix it under warranty. Well, they ended up sending it back with a paper that said "checked internal setting and powered up for 2 hours - no problem found)". What a disappointment this was! So now I have to blow a fan on it. I do want to note that Jim from Rocktron has always given me good phone support.

Overall Rating : 6
Transparent sound, extremely quiet, plenty loud. Gets too hot and got very bad support from Rocktron when I sent it in for repair. If I had a choice I would probably replace it with another 1 space power amp if it was transparent and quiet.

I'M USING AN IBANEZ RG-570 W/DIMZARZIO PAF PROS IN NECK AND BRIDGE POSITIONS AND AN HS-2 IN THE MIDDLE POSITION,A CUSTOM STRAT W/ EMG SA'S AND A LATE '80S CHARVEL W/DIMARZIO TONE ZONE(BRIDGE)AND PAF PRO(NECK).ALL GUITARS ARE USING DOUBLE LOCKING TREMOLO UNITS.THE VELOCITY SUITS MY MUSICAL STYLE VERY WELL. I WORK IN A TOP 40 BAND,SO I HAVE TO COME UP WITH A VARIETY OF TONES AND TIMBRES.GOING FROM CLEAN W/NO FX,CLEAN W/REVERB,CHORUS OR BOTH,CRUNCH W/ORW/O FX AND A LEAD SOUND DRY OR W/FX THIS POWER AMP CAN HANDLE EVERYTHING I THROW AT IT.THE ONLY NOISE THAT IS GENERATED IN MY RACK SYSTEM COMES FROM THE ADA PREAMP I USE WITH IT.(CHECK OUT MY TIPS FOR THE ADA IN USER REVIEWS).ANYTIME YOU GENERATE DISTORTION AT HIGH VOLUMES,YOU'RE GONNA GET NOISE AND NEEDS TO BE TAMED WITH A QUALITY NOISE GATE.

Reliability : 9
THE RELIABILITY OF THIS PRODUCT IS GREAT.I'VE USED THIS POWER AMP ON A GIG WITHOUT A BACKUP.I ONLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT ONE TIME.THE POWER AMP HAD A FAULTY AC CORD WHICH MADE IT CUT FROM STEREO TO MONO.THEN I REMEMBERED THAT THERE IS AN OUTPUT SHORT-CIRCUIT PROTECTION BUILT INTO THIS POWER AMP.THE POWER AMP WAS PROTECTING ITSELF FROM BREAKDOWN DUE TO A MALFUNCTION.I ENDED UP DOING THE GIG IN MONO FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT.NO BIG DEAL!I TOOK THE VELOCITY OUT OF THE RACK TO SEE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT.ONE SIDE WAS NOT WORKING.I TOOK IT APART TO SEE IF ANY COMPONENTS BURNED UP OR CAME LOOSE.NOTHING.THEN I TESTED THE AC CORD WITH ANOTHER AC CORD OF THE SAME TYPE.THE AC CORD WENT BAD.I WENT DOWN TO WALMART AND BOUGHT ANOTHER FOR $10.00.THAT WAS IT.

Customer Support : 9

Overall Rating : 10
I'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR 17 YEARS.I ALSO OWN AN ADA MP-1,A ROCKMAN SMART GATE,A ROCKTRON INTELLIFEX AND A FENDER 2150 POWER AMP.IF MY VELOCITY 120 WAS LOST OR STOLEN,I'D GO OUT AND PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE.I LOVE MY POWER AMP.OTHER THAN A FAULTY AC CORD,IT'S A GOOD SOUNDING, RELIABLE POWER AMP FOR THE STYLE OF MUSIC I PLAY. IT DOESN'T SIT IN THE BEDROOM OR GARAGE.IT'S OUT THERE EARNING ITS KEEP WITH ME ONSTAGE.THE REASON I PURCHASED THIS WAS I WANTED A LIGHTER,LESS POWERFUL POWER AMP FOR MY RACK.THE FENDER POWER AMP IS TOO POWERFUL AND IS A BIT HEAVY(NOT AS HEAVY AS TUBE AMPS).I DIDN'T LIKE THE SOUND OF THE FENDER 2150.I FELT IT HAD POWER,ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLAY IN A LOUD ROCK BAND BUT SOUNDED HARSH WITH MY RACK SYSTEM.I TOOK MY SYSTEM TO GUITAR SHOWCASE IN SAN JOSE,CA. AND TESTED IT IN THE STORE.IT SOUNDED MUCH WARMER AND SMOOTH WITHOUT HAVING TUBES TO MAINTAIN,BIAS OR CARRY EXTRA TUBES AND FUSES.FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT WANT TO HAVE AN ALL TUBE RIG,I'D SAY GET IT AND IT WILL SOUND VERY GOOD.FOR THOSE OF YOU ON LIMITED BUDGET,BUT WANT TO GET GOOD TONE,CHECK OUT THE VELOCITY 120 FOR ITS SMOOTHNESS,RELIABILITY AND FAIR PRICE.

The velocity 120 is a 1 rack space stereo power amp. Output power at 4 ohms 60 watts per channel/bridged 120 watts, 8 ohms 50 watts per channel/bridged 120 watts, 16 ohms 30 watts per channel/bridged 95 watts (i copied that from the rocktron website!). Each channel has independant level and definition control knobs. Also features an output short-circuit protection which (fortunately) i still haven't seen how it works. It has a button in the back pannel, wich switches the unit to mono or stereo.

Sound Quality : 8
I'm using a Fender Stratocaster, an Ovation Celebrity and a digitech SGS-2112 (tube preamp). I play pop-rock-me kind of music, and it provides all the pristine perfection that my guitar sound requires. It's extremely silence, in fact, the only way to know if it's working is to see the red led in the front panel. The definition control adds more cut to my sound, i think it emphatizes the mids. I think i finally have the right amp to my playing and my rig. I'm using it with two Rocktron S-112 Cabinets, which fit exactly to the amp wattage. Great sound! no complains at all.

Reliability : No Opinion
Little experience

Never had to deal with them

I have a almost a 6 space rack with a digitech SGS-2112, GSP-21 Legend and a Vocalist II, and it was heavy enough. The Velocity 120 isn't too much heavy, so i love it... I don't have roadies, so try carry your 50 lbs rack at 4:30 in the morning with 8 tequila shoots in your head and you will understand why i choosed this power amp. I was looking for a single space, great sounding, light weight, up to 80 watts stereo, and CHEAP power amp!!! i compared to the marshall v8008, various model of mesa, and nothing was better. This is the best power amp-speaker-sound quality-price combination that you could ever find.
