I bought this amp used about 2 years ago. The year of the amp is unknown to me but I am the 2nd owner of it. Original owner sold it because he stoped playing.
My playing style is 65% metal, 25% classic rock oriented and the other 10% is various 50's to 70's top 40 stuff. So I needed something very versitile and I found it with this one.
It's a power amp, not a combo or a head. So it's nice and simple. Two channels, usable in 4,8 & 16 ohms (thats a plus!) I always run my stuff in stereo and this amp does it well. I coulnt ask for anything else on this P.A.
I use it everywhere. Gig's, recording, home... everwhere. It's more power then I could ever need. But I guess having that extra power backing you isnt a bad thing :)
Something thats worth mentioning on this amp is the Reactance knob. This plays a big role on your sound because it interacts with your speakers. It gives it that tube sound with out going through all the tube issues.

I use mostly Ibanez, Fender Heartfield & Jackson guitars loaded with either EMG's, Bill Lawrence or Dimarzio pups. For my style of music I couldnt ask for anything else. Very clean, crisp and transparent. And thats important... Its a very quiete amp.

Never had an issue with it. Besides getting the pots cleaned up, but thats normal maintenance job that all electronics need at one time or another.
This amp is built tuff! Its made like a tank. I've been using it since I've bought it and never felt I should get a backupjust in case.. you wont need one.

I've dealt with Rocktron in the past and always had very good service. Never contacted them about this unit... thats why I'll give an 8/10 for this one.

I've been playing for about 18 years. I owned Mesa amp's, Marshall's, Fenders and ADA's. I've got two rig's full of gear and I swtich this power from one to another if I need a different set up.
If this was stolen I would be pist & would hunt another one down.
I love it, its a great amp plain and simple.
I compare this power amp with others I had and I would pick this one up out of the bunch again.
If you spot one between $325 and $400 take it. It's worth it.

Lots of features for a power amp. Has 300 watts, bridge-able, multi-ohm use (all kinds of speakers), fan comes on when too hot, 4 outputs. Designed for guitar. I tried a Mosvalve first and the velocity was MILES ahead in terms of tone and build quality.

I have used this with a number of different pre's and guitars. I find the sound to be very FAT and very dynamic - reacts well to changes in playing. What I like is that is sounds great at all volume levels, and it allows me to use stereo rack effects and multiple cabinets. I have tried a number of SS amps and this one is undervalued. They didn't make the 300 for that long and the 300 seems much more robust than the other lower powered versions. Also, I am surprised that they could get away with much lower versions. I find the 300 watts to not be overpowering in volume, for gigs I usually have it up to 5-7. And my 50/100 watt tube amps seem to put out much more volume (not really a good thing sometimes when it is TOO much volume.
Like the other poster said, the pots got a bit scratchy but fixed with tuner cleaner. They might not have the hype of other power amps, but I think these are a great value -- especially on the used/ebay market.
I play a number of different styles and this works for all of them. Now, it is a power amp, so alot of the sound depends on what you put in front of it. However, it certainly makes anything I put in front of if sound just, more dense, and reactive.

Other than the pots which need periodic cleaning, this amp has been solid for 10 years. It is really well made -- almost too well made - it weighs 30 pounds!

USed to be great when they were just Rocktron. Used to call up and get someone on the phone everytime. Have sent other products in to get fixed (not this 1). Not sure now that it is part of a conglomerate.

I have been playing 15 years. This is the only SS amp that I have kept around, and I love it. If stolen I would pick one up again, heck $300-350 on ebay (when 1 is available, which isn't often). To my ears this blows away the Mosvalve amps. When these came out they were like $750.

Rocktron Velocity 300....nice solid chassis, its got some heft to it. Feels like the Professional Touring Edition that is is. Very basic with the knobs, 2 volume and 2 reactance. Clip leds and over volt led. 150 watts per side and is bridgeable. I wish it had regular signal meter leds instead of just a clip led though. A built in fan turns on if it gets too warm. The right amount of power for me. A great ass-kicker too. I've seen lots of these in the used section of the music stores for good prices too.

Suits me just fine. The amp does a great job of actually interacting with the speaker loads like tubes would. The reactance knob takes it from solid-state sound right through the tube sound of say, a Marshall all the way up to a MesaBoogie tube sound. And it gets even more noticable at higher volumes, just like real tubes. I'm using an ADA MP-1 preamp, BBE 482 Sonic Maximizer, Rocktron Hush Super C, Rocktron Intellifex, Marshall 1960 cabs, Jackson guitars with EMG pickups. (got metal?) Like I said, it fits in great with my equipment and my style.
Sorry, I may piss off all the purists, but I'd take my setup and go toe to toe with ANY tube amp with about the same wattage out there. Yes, it would be an indecisive contest a maxxed out volumes, but Velocity would stomp all over the tube amp at the lower volumes! Why you ask? Because tube amps do NOT sound any better than solid state amps at lower volumes. The very purpose of having tube amps is to have them cranked high enough for the tubes to saturate and affect the tone! Buying a 100 watt tube amp is too expensive and useless for people who don't use them on a big stage or turn them up past 5. Don't get me wrong, I love tube amps because they ARE glorious and very well should be. But the maintenance required of them along with the high purchase price isn't justified for bedroom practice or even small club gigs. A power amp like this will take care of all your needs: low or insane volumes and sound great doing it day after day, night after night too without busting your bank account.

I've had this amp for over a year now, and I run it hard. Nothing has ever gone wrong in any way whatsoever. I have to admit that I bought it used, and the volume pots were "scratchy". But after opening this up and cleaning them with common tuner spray, they didn't pose any more issues. Speaking of, when I opened the lid on this amp, I was quite surprised to see how heavy-duty everything was in there! No chintzy thin gauge wires-barely-hanging-on were seen anywhere. Everything under the lid looked like it could completely shut down a small country with one well placed power chord! Rocktron=Reliability!

I've been playing since 1986. Been through so much equipment over the years, I could probably sit here all day writing about it all. Tubes, transistors, mosfet, digital, solid-state, good stuff, great stuff, crappy stuff, trendy stuff, obscure stuff, I'm sure I tried it one time or another. Gearheads are like that. But thankfully I've finally found a rig I am happy with. Besides, I'd rather play out than to sit at a computer all day long getting a "secretary's butt" Now, my advice to anyone looking to buy a power amp for their guitar rig: Be realistic about your goals and what you can afford. Be realistic about the wattage you'll need, especially if you are hellbent on having a tube amp. If you want a solid-state amp, look for one that is designed exclusively for guitarists,(such as this particular Velocity amp) and leave the P.A. amps for the P.A.s. They won't satisfy any guitarist worth his/her chops.

Reactance and Level controls. Very basic. Mono (bridged) and Stereo modes. All solid-state and THATS THE WAY I WANTED IT! I am not a tube freak and I will never be. I tried and played and used and owned tube amps, but I ultimately think Rocktron's Reactance technology is the best and there is no tube hassles! My only dislike about this power amp is the fact that there is "clip leds" and they always clip before I attain the desired level damnit!

Sounds really great. Better than ANY tube amp out there. It is not spongy, it's direct and quick. The way I want it. Really responsive for those SHRED AND PURE METAL lead lines. It's a very tight power amp. My only dislike is that it is not really loud enough for me.

I'd get another one or a Velocity 500. Rocktron stuff is the absolute best in rack systems. Their Chameleon preamp sounds much better than tube preamps out there! They sound tight and agressive. The way I want it! This is probably the best souding power amp in the world. High-Quality and reliable.....what can ask from such a great company anyways. Rocktron gear DEFINES what rack systems should be. it really is the best. tube amps are mushy and sounds like a smooth growling sound. This amp sounds FULL and TIGHT!! When you play fast, you need a TIGHT tone....believe me.

It haves the features a power amp must have for me:150W x 2, bridgeable at 300W, intelligent speaker impedance recognizer, a level and reactance control for each channel. The fan automatically switches on when the unit needs cooling.

I play Heavy Metal, and it goes perfect for me.It is quiet as if it was switched off, even going reasonably up with the levels.I also play in a blues band, and it really rocks in here too.The reactance control shapes your sound very much, i like it turned fully clockwise.
Obviously, anyway, there's mesa boogies out there so...

It seems strong, it weights enough for being a solid state amp, knobs are heavy, seems really dependable.I gig without a backup for the power amp, this is the main reason I didn't buy a tube amp, i preferred a SS just for the reliability and the lack of tube maintennce.

I have been playing for 11 years now(I'm 18).I have a rack with :
An ADA MP-1 Preamp, a BBE Sonic Maximizer(422a), and this amp.I think I would buy it again, If I could find it.these are not easy to find(at least in italy)For being a SS, I think it is the best you could choose, but if you have money and time for tube hassles, go for a Mesa Boogie 2:90.....
