I initially ruled this amp out as being too pricey until I played it. Set the B M T dials to the middle position, select piezo for your pickup type and turn the shaping on. Welcome to tone town!
The sound from this amp is simply -=A M A Z I N G=- The DSP is PERFECT with a piezo bridge pickup.

Speakers did not hold up as well as I think they should given the price of the amp. I had the unit for just over a year and developed a low end buzz. Replacements are $50 each from Roland. On the other hand if you require any real volume just run an XLR cable out of the back of it to the board.

Roland is great when it comes to supporting their products. They have a fantasitc web site, great user forums and a top notch support team who will answer your e-mail questions in a relatively short amount of time. Should you need direct support they have a hotline you can call during normal business hours. I made one call and was able to get pricing and model numbers to replace my speakers.

Read the reviews for the BBE Sonic Maximizers.
The AC-60 provides a simlilar effect to your acoustic tone. (I own a 482i). NO AMOUNT OF EQ will provide the same results. I tried to dial in a similar tone with a GT-10 which, since it is also a Roland product, should have the best chance to come close. Even side by side I was never able to get the GT-10 to produce a tone as lush and rich as the AC-60s DSP could. Bottom line I have to date been unable to find any peice of equipment that delivers the sound quality this amp does.

For me there is enough features, easy to use, can just play and can also connect easily to other equipments like mixer etc. to record your playing. I can blug my electrical acustic guitars straight with 1/4 mono plug and also use separate microphone (also both can used same time to give more color to the sound). There is enough of effects to me.

This small box is not small, sound is great and enough loud too if needed. Gives nice clear and warm sound from both my guitars (Ibanez AW800ECENT steelstring electro acoustical and Yamaha CGX171CCA nylon string electro acoustical).
There is enough adjustments area with bass, midle, treble to reach either low bass frequences or high crispy treble and all beetween that, really nice and gives good variety of sounds. Reverb/delay and chorus are just great and sounding very good.
Good is also those to button named Pickup and shape so you can effect also sound depending what kind guitar you use.
Anti-Feedback works fine for me, Ibanez don??t make any noice but Yamaha makes littlebit and when I use Anti-Feedback the noice stopped, very easy to use and find correct adjustment.
AC-60 really sounds great, it gives you good variety of sounds and supporst really well for you touch of playing, nice dynamic sound. What ever style you playing (with plectra or with finger nails or not) this combo gives nice sounds.

I??m totally saticfied for my Roland AC-60, nothing to complain.
Great sound and nice clear warm sound and nice variety of sound combintations, enought things for me, easy to use, reliability good.
I have played guitars years. I own also 2 electrical guitars (Ibanez JS1200CA and Fender American Deluxe HSS FMT), Hughes and Kettner Swithcblade 50W combo, Boss GT-8, some other separate effect pedals, microphones to recordings, Fostex MR-8HD recorder/mixer, Yamaha synth etc..
If were stolen or lost I would buy a new one.
I compare this product for one Fender acoustic amp, and some others and this was best for me.
Price is reasonable (about 380)

A Breedlove AJ250 is my main acoustic but I also use a crappy Dean acoustic for alternate tunings. The amp is able to faithfully reproduce both guitars (unfortunately so for the Dean). It takes some tweaking between the guitar's pre-amp and the amp's tone control to dial in a sound though. Too much treble produces an over compressed sound. The reverb is warm but sounds digitized at high levels. The three types of chorus are all useable depending on style. The feedback elimination looks intriguing but I can get my Breedlove to feedback through it at any sane levels.

i have a lot of roland gear, keyboards, amps etc. i think they all sound great but roland really messed up with this amp. i have a micro cube and a cube 60 and the acoustic setting distorts or compresses just like an ac 60. i had an ac-60 1 day and it is the biggest piece of junk roland ever built. the sound would be great if roland would address the compression issue on all these amps, an acoustic guitar sounds natural through all of them i dont understand why the other reviewers havent addressed this. do yourself a favor, buy a fishman loudbox 100 for 100$ more, i did and dont regret it.

you will not be able to get any volume with this amp and roland needs to be addressed with this problem, actually you will get a better sound out of a cube 60, also the cube 60 is much much more versitle. i have been playing a long time and needed a good acoustic amp. for picking, rhythm etc. this amp aint it if you want to play live on stage and get a good clean sound. believe me the fishman blows it away. sorry roland.

I play oldies, blues, southern rock and folk ballads. I don't use many effects in my sound because I want to sound as natural as possible and most of the venues have enough natural reverb from the hard surfaces. I use a Martin or Carvin a/e along with a Boss Loop so I can do some lead solos. I record my rythym verses on the fly with no tracks pre-recorded and sometimes stack as many as 3 layers of parts to solo over. I let the listeners see what I am doing so that they know that I can actually play something other than a cd.

I have been performing in public for 40 years both in bands and solo. With my band I use Mackie powered speakers for vocals and a Strat through a Blues Deluxe with a Mesa V-Twin and a vintage Roland CE-1 chorus that is the envy of everyone. I don't look for a system that sounds good but just one that sounds like I sound, only louder. This amp is very natural so if you have want a PA that hides the fact that you have no talent, look elsewhere. I once owned a Fender Acoustasonic Jr. (not for long) and that was the worst sound I have ever gotten out of any amp I have ever owned.

The amp is really quite clean, with a tighter/more responsive sound than the comparble Fender etc., and only kaks out when pushed to the limit as expected. The review before mine where the fellow is quoting not enough power surprises me, perhaps he isn't using the pre-amp and master channel correctly. I've played multiple gigs with this thing, and it's never been a problem until you reach maybe 60+ people or a large space. Cafes, shops, and all small-to-medium locations have been tackled well with this amp. I could see a PACKED and noisy pub which isn't well laid-out (i.e. a very WIDE area or around corners) definitely being a problem, you would need two of these puppies at least under such circumstances. The fellow below I believe is looking for PA sound and PA power, which this amp is not.
I have used both acoustic and electric guitars with this thing, both just fine. I always sing, using the trusty SM-58. The balance is great when used in tandem with either guitar, and I often have backing tracks coming in through the aux stereo input (rca cables). Speaking of which, that would be my one design wish -- to have an ADJUSTABLE aux input with EQ. I have to settle for the fixed input of backing tracks coming off my CD/DVD player, and balance my own guitar and vocal's EQ and levels accordingly. But it works out just fine in the end, as long as your aux input is decent-sounding to begin with.
The reverb is *OK*, very basic, but does the trick to help smooth out your voice or guitar in a pleasant fashion. The EQs are decent, but it would be nice to have a bypass. The chorus people rave about below is nice too, yes.

The amp is quite well built, the pots (potentiameters/knobs) are strong and crackle-free so far. I would definitely gig without a backup. The amp has never had a problem in over 2 years of use. I have a small worry that the black nylon mesh covering (protecting?) the speakers may one day tear or get kicked-in and destroy the nice clean look of this amp.

I've been playing for many years, I did pro audio for a decade, was a full-time mastering engineer for a few years. I have a modest home studio setup. I'm a Mac guy and will always choose well-built and quality equipment over the competition for the long run, even if it puts me out some more $. This amp was such a product. I would definitely replace it if stolen.
The carry-bag that comes with it is neat and protects it, but the one design miss is no "handle" so I can carry it without using the shoulder strap (you ALWAYS have to use the shoulder strap to carry it). I did try all the competition, including bigger amps, but this one suited my needs perfectly. I'm a one-man singer/songwriter who integrates a video screen and backing audio tracks to showcase my original music, in the soft rock / singer-songwriter categories. This box was more expensive than the other units in its output league, but it was worth it.
See what sort of music I pump through this little fella at http://www.dyniss.com

This amplifier has the most features of any acoustic amp and sounds great. The problem is the lack of power issue. This amp would not be loud enough for most gigs, even as just a monitor. If Roland could double the output it would work very well as a monitor or as a coffee house mini pa for coffee houses. The amp really does have great features, especially for the low cost. The bad feature is lack of output power at only 30 watts per side.

Very comprehensive feature set for an amp in this class: 2 channels- one with optional 48v phantom power and your choice of 1/4" plug or 3-prong snake cable DI in. The effects are great but I really wish it had separate controls for intensity and depth of reverb. Chorus is also decent. I use it with a Taylor 814-CE and a 314-CE and the amp sounds very natural with both offering great tone in all ranges. I hear no unnecessary noise, hum or static from the amp and have had the volume nearly at max. This unit compares very favorably to my Fender Acoustisonic Jr. DSP. Both are great sounding units.

Thia is a 2006 model with features as described in previous reviews. Extremely versatile. Roland really did it right with this amp. I was looking to amplify a spider-style dobro that was feeding back like crazy on all other amps I tried, including acoustic amps from Fender, Marshall, Peavy. I use this amp as an on-stage monitor, running the stereo xlr outs to the pa. Huge sound! How they ever got something with 30 watts per channel and little 6 1/2" speakers to sound so good is a mystery to me. Also, you can turn this amp up to 10 (both pre and post) and it does not break up (!) So you get alot more out of 30 watts than your standard 3/4 guitar amp. I don't use the 2nd channel (set up for a mic or 2nd gtr input). The stereo chorus is incredible. The other effect is an either/or reverb/delay - the ONE quibble I have is that, if you use the delay, you can't control how loud the repeats are - they're full on - which is not very useful - if you could turn down the volume of the delay I'd use it. As it is, I leave it on reverb.
Sound Quality
:

I play a spider-style dobro and an old Guild with a rare earth. The Guild is easy to amplify & sounds good through anything. The Dobro lives to feed back. This amp has not just a notch filter, but a footswitch controllable auto-detecting feedback notch. When the gtr. starts to feedback, just hit the switch, and the roland automatically chokes off the squeal! Who has time to mess with a manual notch when you're up on stage with an audience waiting? Practacally useless for this application! Very quiet amp. The outs are hot - need to be careful and trim at the board. Does not distort - not for headbangers.

I just purchased a 2006 model of Roland's AC-60 natural stereo chorus amp. I believe it has 6 1/2 inch speakers in it, runninh 30 watts per side. Comes with the 2 channel> 3 type of choruses /reverb/delay. Also has a nice anti-feedback control that really works nice. Comes with its own carrying case and shoulder strap--great idea!

the sound of this small unit was exactly why I spent more than my buget of $350. It is worth the $450 I bought it for at Guitar center in Austin, Tx. The sound just cuts through with no problem, standing next to my drummer, who is sheilded abit. I was using my Crate stereo 2x10 Gx-60C which is also 30 watts per side, though its mainly an electric guitar amp. The Roland with smaller speakers just is so much clearer, more natural with my Taylor and Guild acoustics. Plugging in to the direct out>mono output to the main mixer also cleaned up my house sound, the guitars were very full with as much bottom end as I wanted. Beleieve it or not I had to turn down from master at 7 to 5 and gain to 7, it was plenty loud, staning on the floor 5 ft. from me with the build-in kick bar to prop it up.

Roland AC-60 purchased 7 months ago to replace a Behringer ACX-1000. After a year or so with that amp, the weight and noise finally got to me.
This amp's features are documented here already. Also on the www.rolandus.com site. Suffice it to say that the amp is loaded with input/output options, 2 independent channels, useable effects (delay, reverb, and 3 styles of chorus), footswitchable options, etc., etc., etc.,

To be honest, when I first heard the AC-60 in the music store, I was not too impressed. Had a bit of a ?honk? to it. Salesman was letting me use a nice Taylor to try it out, so no problem there. I sat with the amp for five minutes or so, fiddling with the eq and various settings on both guitar and amp. Finally found a beautiful, flat, clean sound that was exactly what I was looking for.
I am using the amp for a variety of acoustic styles and jazz solo work. Aux in drives the drum/bass machine and occasionally plug in a mic. The amp handles it all in a small gig situation. Has been plenty loud and clean for my needs. Haven't opened it all the way, but pretty close.
This amp will not go to 11. However, it does have stereo outs to patch to your board or aux amp. Also has a sub-woofer out, which I have not needed to use.
This amp sounds great.

Been playing since I was 9. I'm 52 now. Own a nice assortment of guitars, about 9 or so. Electrics (ES335, Strat, ES135), Acoustics (Tak, Ibanez, Ovation, Samick), Guitar synth, lots of stuff.
Needed something easily moved, powerful, and versatile. OK. So, here are the different scenarios I?ve used this little workhorse on:
1. Playing solo Christmas tunes in church on nylon string guitar.
2. Ran my DR-880 drum machine into the aux input. Variax acoustic and ES-135 into the two channels for a solo instrumental jazz wedding reception.
3. Variax alone with sax, percussion & guitar trio. Used the AC-60 just to amplify the acoustic. Used another PA for all vocals.
4. Variax and nylon string for jazz sets with a quartet with guitar, bass, sax and drums.
5. Performance as guest artist at local university. Played classical guitar with the symphony.
6. DR-880 into aux input, Strat into channel 1 via MagicStomp. Vocal into channel 2 for small (about 100) person reception.
In all these scenarios, the amp exceeded expectations. Especially with the symphony gig because the question was whether or not the amp would be loud enough to solo on nylon over a 60 piece ensemble. No problem at all. Most amazed was the conductor, who marveled at the clean, clear sound at that volume level out of an amp the size of a big boom box. Amazing.
If I was doing a full rock & roll gig with the Variax, I?d probably have to direct it out to the board. But so far, the amp kicks plenty so far. Still, if it could go to 11, that'd be great.
Haven?t played much rock or blues thru it. Got a Tech-21 TM60 and a Roland Cube 60 for that.
But for a fantastic acoustic sound and options galore, this amp is exactly what I needed.
Add the gig bag (which has room to store footswitches and cables) and you?re set. I would buy this amp again, even though it is a little pricey. I would also check out the new Fishman Loudbox, which costs about 50% more than the AC-60.
This is perhaps the best purchase I?ve made in a while.

This amp weighs about 20 pounds and outplays amps that weigh three times as much and that cost three times as much also. Fenders and Marshalls, Ultrasounds and Genz Benz -- I've played them, tried lifting them, looked for a gig bag and found none. Result of tests: they all weigh more than the AC30, their effects are less impressive, some cost more and have weird construction features. The AC30 beats them all. As far as the Roland company is concerned, they're sort of like Barry Bonds -- they can hit home runs with their products; it's just too bad that they act like jerks.

If you have researched this amp already then you know about most of the features already. I got theis amp to play my acoustic through in a small church setting and the 60 watts it puts out is way more than enough. If this thing is ever lost or stolen I would absolutely get another if my wife will let me. I love almost everything about this acoustic amp. Some of the effects like the reverb and delay could be better but still not bad. This amp is ultra portable and has enough power for playing in a small church setting as that is wnat I got it for. I chose this based on all of the great reviews it got, but more importantly because of the way it sounded when I tried it at the local music store. This amp may not be right for every person or for every situation, but it was nothing short of perfect for what I wanted it for,to play acoustically in a small church setting.

Features have pretty much been covered. Chorus is very un-natural sounding. I owned a Jap made 1980's JC-120 and the later US made jc-120. These had great chorus's. I own a 2005 taylor 810ce. I am sorry to say that this amp makes this great guitar sound like tinsle laiden poo poo. Shame on me, I should have looked where it was made, in china. Funny, I can't name a amp that is worth its salt from china. If you want good chineese food, go to china, but don't buy their guitar amps. Again, the chorus is very fake sounding. reverb is a bit digital sounding. delay is ok, but acts un-natural. overall tone is tin-ie, high end. there is no bottom end whatsoever (hence the output jack for a powered sub).

I wrote this opinion because there are many good sounding amps out there for acoustic players. My taylor sounds better through my rivera clubster tube amp than it did through the ac-60. if i could afford the california blonde II, i would buy it. it is a fantasic sounding amp, better than the fender acoustic amp. I hear rivera makes a good sounding amp for acoustics (if you go taylor's web site you can download a video about the t5 guitar which features the rivera amp). anyway, this roland ac-60 is a joke. not even a funny one. mine was brand new sealed in the box when i bought it. roland certainly does not make amps like they used to when they were made in the good old island of japan. take care, rich.

Bought this as an on stage monitor as I am sick of relying on sound people to gewt my foldback right!
Looked at this and the AER model as well. There is an idea that the AER is purer but I'm not sure. I wanted the chorus so I could do away with my pedals and keep a simple rig. Having come from a Yamaha AG stomp, this is good, very good at chorus and reverb, keep it low and simple and it sounds great.
There were a few reviews concerned about the volume of the line out, and it is a bit hot, if you have a very high output pre amp it will need to be set lower to get a suitable line level output but my Ovation Elite is just OK on full. As this unit is so silent it is not a problem to roll back the output vol a bit anyway.
Sound is crisp and clear, with no speaker problems or clipping.
Realy well thought out package with great connectivity giving loads of options. I love it!

Love it, used it live for the first time today, connected well with the desk and had spare line outs for foldbacks. Clear as a bell with great onboard effects.
Best for the money as far as I can see. The only other option is the AER compact but you will need to add on a lot for a good chorus if you are going to match the one in this, and you will have more wiring to do every gig.
I just love it!

I'm sure you have seen them all in other reviews. The great thing about this amp is how light and small it is but sounds like a PA system for your acoustic guitar.
I have been playing for 30+ years both professionally and just for fun and this is the best value I have found for any style of acoustic music or vocal.

I play a Tayor GA 414Kce, a Tayor GAMC, a Martin HD 28 and occasionally my Gibson ES175. I play Jazz, oldies rock, contemporary christian, and fingerstyle, as well as blues guitar styles. This amp has never let me down and just sounds fabulous no matter which guitar I use whether onboard pickup or useing a mic. Vocals sound great through the amp as well. As far as the onboard effects what can I say, they are Roland and just plain sound Roland "GREAT". I have used this amp in coffee houses, church to do fingerstyle as well as strum and sing through. The amp sounds like a small PA system not how small it is. It has the punch that you loose with most small amps. It also does not color your guitar's sound if you don't want it to, but you can use the eq and onboard effects for any sound you may want. I tried the Ultrasound AG30-too weak, no punch, I tried the SWR Strawberry Blond which had enough punch but not many effects and only one channel as well as being big and HEAVY. The Ultrasound AG50 was better than the 30 but still sounded flat without punch and both the Ultrasounds distorted at moderate volume and up. I have a Fender Acoustisonic Jr wich is also great but colors the sound and is heavy, the Acoustisonic 30 could not compete.

I have had the amp for several months now with no problems. It seems to be well made; only problem I could see is with the thin grill cloth. Comes with a real neat gig bag to carry it in; now is this amp small or what if you can carry it in a bag. I only gave an 8 because I have not had it that long, so far so good.

If weight and size are your concern this the the best on the market. Check out www.bpmmusic.com you can't beat the price or service.

I play mostly Taylors. I have an 814-ce, a 410-ce which both sings brightly and clearly through this amp. I also have a new T5S1 and it was like this box was made for it. Quite a range of tones indded.
My Baby Taylor as well as my mandolins sound very good mic'd through it but not as good as instruments with a pickup.
Lastly and suprisingly, my Martin acoustic bass is loud and clear with a lot of bottom end for such small speakers.

This little amp (and I do mean little) is absolutely loaded with features, such as dual 30 watt power amps, Roland's famous stereo chorus, Digital stereo reverb, Guitar and Mic inputs, Stereo outputs, Footswitching outs, and so much more.
The best part is that it only weighs about 22lbs, and comes with a really cool carrying bag. The only drawback is no effects loop, so it gets a nine.

I tried every acoustic amp at Guitar Center, Marshall, Fender, Fishman, etc... The AC-60 is the most natural sounding out of the lot. Plus, none of the competition boasts that lush stereo chorus like a Roland. This little amp has the same great chorus sounds as the JC-120, and then some. But what really surprised me was the vocal sounds. I demo'ed with a regular SM-58 and could handle hearing my voice through it. It actually sounded quite full considering it has 6.5" speakers.

Prior to buying an AC-60 I viewed singing and playing as chore, but the tones of this amp has rejuvinated my enthusiasm. In fact this might be the tone I have been searching for my whole life.
In fact I just ordered a JBL 150watt subwoofer to conect to it even more layers, Can't wait to hear that!
Perhaps in six months I will be back down to earth, but right now I am a mile high... baby, and the Roland AC-60 put me there.

This is my preliminary assessment of the AC-60. I will give no Ten's on this review but will check back after I've had time to evaluate it further. I just ordered on line after playing with one at Guitar Center.
As far as features go, it has pretty much everything that I need it to have, 2 channels, effects, small, portable package, BIG SOUND!!

OK, here's the story. One of the things I do is pit work for musicals. There is never enough space in pits so small is the key. I have a '62 reissue strat with lace sensors and I installed a L.R. Baggs X-bridge Vintage Tremelo for acoustic sounds. It's wired in stereo.
So I walk into G.C. with a strat, my Boss GT-6 processor and head straight for the acoustic room and ask to see an AC-60. They look at me strange, shrug, direct me to the Taylor, Martin, etc. glass room where I plug the GT-6 into the mic channel, take a stereo cable from the strat to the GT-6 and the AC-60 Guitar channel. I can go from acoustic sound to full blown screamin' leads with a flick of a mini switch. The Gt-6 amp models sounded authentic through the 60 and the Baggs acoustic bridge sounded shimmering. I think I may have reached nirvana. I was worried that it wouldn't be loud enough but the people two glass walls away , in the middle of the store, with the strange looks on their faces, thought otherwise. This little bugger is LOUD! Plenty loud for my needs....and tiny. Leave it to Roland

Roland AC -60 amps (I have 2!) less than 6 months old each. Mini PA system in a small portable package. 2 inputs (one doubles as guitar/mic input) that allow a single guitarist/vocalist or 2 guitarist or split signal from one guitar. Each channel has main volume, eq, chorus, delay reverb available plus a feedback eliminator. So far the 60 watts are plenty (I doubt that I'll ever need more). Sounds great with my Takamine LTD 98 and my Parker Nitefly and with outboard effects processors.

Guitars I use are mentioned above and I use a Boss GT-6 or a VF-1 for effects (both run stereo and I use 2 AC-60s) with a JamMan for looping and the AC-60 not only fits my jamband folkadelic style of playing, they replaced a Tech 21 Bronzewood 60 AND Trademark 60 and I don't miss 'em a bit (although they had great tone in their own right)! I don't notice any unusual noise with the AC-60s that I haven't heard from the other amps I've owned over the years, in fact they are quieter than most (Tech 21, Line 6, Peavey, Fender). I expected the AC-60 to excel with acoustic guitars and it does. But it also makes an awesome electric amp as well (you only need to supply the overdrive). The tonal range is excellent, the response is immediate, and the on-board effects are very good, especially the reverb. I usually use out-board effects for delays, modulations, distortions, wahs, etc., but the chorus and delay on the AC-60 are both very good.

Yeh, this guy rated everything a 10, but you know what? The AC-60 is a great guitar amp/PA. It sounds great, doesn't break your back, is reasonably priced, and carries the Roland reputation for quality. Use 2 and run 'em stereo and see/hear clarity. Whoa! I also own a Bose Cylindrical Radiatior Personal PA so quality of sound reproduction is important to me. I'm tired of hearing people rag on Boss/Roland stuff. They haven't been around for over 25 years for nothing.

Use this with a Taylor 700 series and an Ovation balladeer. Play power pop. Amp is clear, fairly loud, and reliable. Very crisp, and suprisingly good at representing low mids and low frequencies for an amp this size. Use second channel with xlr in for vocal mic when playing small acoustic gigs where no pa available. Versatile for acoustic applications. On board efx are serviceable, but not great. However they provide enough flexibility that one can tweak to fit a variety of gig situations.

This is a relatively new amp on the market. I purchased mine from guitar Center Oct. 2004. See Roland's site for product details. I just sold my Fender Acoustasonic because I was tired of lugging around a 60+ lb amp. This amp sounds even better and is 1/3 the weight....amazing. Would be nice if you could assign reverb to each channel seperately...you can't. Otherwise, suits my needs well and comes with a very nice caryying case.

Here's why I'm leaving this post. The first time I fired up this thing there was a buzzing or crackling sound coming from it - worse at lower frequencies. I first thought my guitar pre was screwing up and needed a new battery...but that didn't fix the problem. In fact, the problem was there for all my guitars, but it was worst with the ovation and carvin. Further investigation and listening found the noise was only coming from the right channel / speaker.
Before my purchase I had read others on this site reporting noise problems and others saying the thing was dead silent. The demo I played before buying was VERY QUIET! So, I took the thing back and am currently waiting on a replacement from Guitar Center.
Since the problem was only in one speaker, I'm hoping the next one will be gold....but given that others are having some 'noise' issues as well, I'm concerned Roland may have some bad speakers or other issue(s) with this realtively new amp.
I have a ton of Roland gear and have never had the first problem with any of it...so if you're watching these posts (Roland), you need to chase down these noise demons asap.

I've contacted Roland via telephone a few times in the past for other Roalnd equipment I own and I've never been on hold more than 5 mins before talking with a real human that was able to help me with my question(s). The telephone call isn't free however, and there's no contact support via the web. A use forum would be nice, but they don't have that either.

awesome acoustic tone wtih great sounding effects . BUT!!!!!!!!! do not buy this amp with the intensions of playing out using it with or without a pa system .Their is a terrible distortion for moderate to aggressive pickers at volume half way up or more (sometimes less)and is VERY apparent though PA at any volume setting using the stereo outputs and DO NOT PLAY A NYLON STRING GUITAR AT ANY VOLUME THROUGH THIS AMP OR IT WILL DISTORT AT ANY VOLUME WITH ANY PLAYING STYLE .I have to assume the distorion is coming from the terribly high settings of the compressors built into the amp to prtect the little 6 and a half inch speakers . Overall i love the sound quality and effects of this amp for playing at home or for some small gatherings of friends and such .However if it was my only acoustic amp and I played out I would give this amp a minus 10 but for practice around the house id give it a plus 10 . vocals into the second channel sounds great as long as you dont get right up and the mic belting it out or they distort at any volume also . I got this amp awhile back and it has been a fantastic practice tool because its so easy to set up and play around anywhere .I find myself enjoying playing much more due to the ease of setup . I do not really like the chorus that much because it colors the guitar to much but the space setting in the chorus is fantastic . It's much more suttle and achieves the same stereo effect .delay and reverbs are awesome

I wish the distortion wasn't an issue so I could really give this amp the 10 that it deserves or at least if it wasnt an issue on the outputs to the pa also . If you play a nylon string please do yourself a favor and do not buy this .The distortion is unacceptable and I cant believe a company like Roland would make such an oversight . At least they could have cut the compressor from the outputs to the PA .Overall you will love the sound and convienience of practicing with this amp .I am sure you will play much more like me because you dont have all the stuff to drag around . It is very pricey for a practice amp though but if your used to a high end pa system its hard to comprimise sound and effects on cheaper amps . I also enjoy playing my telecaster thought this and it sounds very good .It's my enclosed trailor load of pa gear in a 21 lb box .

I bought it to use with a Godin Multiac Nylon.
Most of my review is based on the amplifier's performance with that guitar. Maybe it's just a bad match.
I found that the amp generally produced a rubber band like treble attack -- apparently a reflection of the attempt to reproduce the picking sound during strumming. I could barely get rid of it, even with turning treble down on both the guitar and amp. I also found the mids to be harsh and had to turn them down too. That left me with mostly bass and little defintion.
Overall, I found it thoroughly unpleasant.
On the other hand, I used the amp briefly with a steel string solid body Gibson L5S. The chimey, strummy sound was good in that situation.
I've given a rating of 4 -- too high for the Godin, too low for the Gibson.

I ended up using a Mesa Boogie instead. Not a typical choice for an acoustic guitar, but much better sounding than the Roland in my situation.

This was my first acoustic amp purchase and I hit the home run first time out. This amp is loaded with features, 2 channels (#2 even has phantom power for some tasty flavors of condenser mic.) Even with an acousticm I do like having the availability of chorus and 'verb. I go back to the days of the original Electroharmonix Bad Stone phaser and the MXR Phase 90, that was BC (before chorus was really popular for guitars) so I fell in love with the chorus on this bad boy as soon as I demo'ed it in a GC store. For its intended purpose, I think it is equipped perfectly and if you use this amp for any period of time, you'll probably end up availing yourself of most if not all the functions and in/outs it has. I use this amp doing praise and worship music (from contemporary to old standard hymns, I'm a pastor for 3 United Methodist Churches...circuit rider don't cha know!!) Even in my largest church that'll seat about 200+, it's got plenty of volume on its own (60 watts thru 2 6.5" drivers).

I'm using my first Martin (DCX-1E with Fishman Classic 4 electronics) and in the store that was what I played thru the AC-60. It is simply perfect for the style music I do. It is the best amplified acousic sound I've ever heard in a combo...you can spend a lot more and get less amp. The tone is clean and pure...just your acoustic only louder. Set up flat on the EQ's there is no coloration. In my experience , I've not found any noise problems and I've cranked it pretty good in some good sized rooms...no distortion either. You do have to watch the output from your guitar overdriving the channel 1 preamp section, but that goes for any amp right?? My Fishman can overdrive the front end if I crank it but I don't need to ever drive it that hard. You can go from purist "naked" unadorned acoustic to a thick chorus to a wide, open chorus with just a hint of reverb (one of my fave patches for running this into my home recording setup.)

As good as their gear is, their on-line stuff is lacking. Come on...is it that difficult to convert the manuals to .pdf and put 'em on the site? Cripes!! I can even do that on MY website. I think another reviewer hit it on the head...they really don't have a feel for the everyday gigging, small guys and making available some basic resources would go a long way in changing that perception. I've had a few dealings with their phone support and I'll characterize it as just adequate.

I've been playing for about 40 years. I have the Martin, '97 Strat, LP Gold Top reissue, Mexican Tele, a custom built Tele (I built it myself) with vintage electronics, a Jazz V Bass, an OLP Sting Ray copy, A Korg X-3 workstation plus my home studio (Fostex, Presonus, M-audio, Shure plus PC recording with Sonar, etc.) If it disappeared, I'd replace it. Even tho I have a Beringer ACX 1000...the Roland in its custom gig bag makes it so portable. Aside from the great tone and superb effects...it's got a MUTE button. That is indispensable for my church work. So nice to have that to shut down the guitar as I take it off and place it on the stand before I switch gears and begin preaching. I tried it side by side with a small Crate($150) and a Fender ($399)(don't remember the model #'s...cuz I forgot 'em both after deciding on the Roland). Not much I can think of to add to the unit. One thing that I find totally useless is the mounting pocket on the bottom for a standard diameter speaker stand. The controls are on top, so to have it low enough to get to 'em, who wants to fight the legs to get to it? I grabbed a $25 angled amp stand and it works for me perfectly. If you want to travel light and cover small to even some medium sized gigs with something that can handle your acoustic, do decently with a mic for vocals and even accomodate a CD input for accompaniment tracks...this is the one. Did I mention the tone??? Tons of it

Ive been playing off and on for 40 years. Up to now Ive used a Fender 100w keyboard amp for acoustic guitar and shows. Boss pedals included. Smaller gigs a Fender Squire PA. Ive tried about every acoustic amp in this range. Last time I went shopping for a smaller setup ended up with the Squire PA as I did not care for any of the small amp sounds and the on board so called effects. I saw this thing sitting on the floor in the acoustic room at a GC store. Plugged in a Taylor as I think I know what it suppose to sound like. From floor level, Wow! Went home and got my GC card. No interest or payments for a year. What the hell. Like I really need another amp! I used it recently for a three day gig. What a dream. Walk in with "amp in a bag", guitar and a mic stand. A plastic milk crate for an amp stand and rock and roll. (I have tried a speaker stand as it has a speaker hole in the bottom but it sounds better coming off the floor tilted upwards or slightly above the floor to my liking anyways, plus the stand is just more junk to haul around) Have left the Fenders home and the assortment of stomp pedals. The onboard effects are very nice. They sound very much like my Boss pedals. I use medium reverb on vocals and guitar, medium chorus on guitar off and on which by the way you can add to vocal channel as well. For some songs if I want a delay slap reverb I simply reach over and turn the knob up. Same for extra stereo chorus. Then turn it back after the selected song. I tried the Boss foot pedals FSL and FS1 but found you have to hit them two times each way to turn the chorus off and on. Probably as they are set up to be used with the chorus AND reverb together. No big deal but for us older guys two stomps each way gets very confusing. I have a Tascam pedal I used for my old recorder punch in and out and it works fine with one stomp off and on. One fellow mentioned some clipping or something. I have not found this but anythings possible.
I usually play with a rack EQ, Alesis Quad something and Compressor but dont even use them with this rig. I do like compressors and have an Alesis Nano but just more junk to mess with. If I need to get that loud you can plug this into a house PA or I can go back to my Fender keyboard amp to blow the place away. I also plugged in a cheapo CD player into the RCAs for breaks. Great sound there also. Dont know about the sub-woofer option but for now do not seem to need it but could be fun. The only thing Roland didnt include with it is a set of wings or it would simply fly. If you do solo coffee house or party size to medium gigs and are tired of messing with some of the crapy PA setups and such at various places this amp is for you. You are now self-contained and sounding good.

Tried it with steel and nylon, fairly aggressive right hand stuff, kinda rhumba flamenco with a pick. I do not like to color the acoustic tone with chorus, but I understand that to make a stereo amp apparent, stereo chorus is the cure. I think there is a compressor or something like it in the preamp of the amp. When you push the volume and drive signal into hard, it seems to break up. I not happy about this. The fact that there is an optional sub woofer says something by virtue of the fact that the option exists...not a beefy low end. I understand the portability factor is most likely the key reason for this but you should know, it does not have the roundness of an SWR Blonde Series, possibly due to the 6.5 inch speakers. Having said this, the Piezo in my SWR drives me nuts with it's sizzle.

The break up really bugs me. I asked if there was a compressor in there, it really does clip when you drive it, either with alternate picking on lines or bold strumming. I love the portable aspect, that was the first hook but I'm finding I am living a bit of a compromise for tone and usage live.

This amp has all the features I would want - two channels, a great chorus, reverb and delay, line outs for both channels. I use this amp at home, for band practice and will be using it alone for small venues and as a monitor when patched through the board at larger venues. It would be nice if it could accomodate two mikes in the mike channel, however.
The nicest "feature" is it's size and weight. It's so easy to transport - just put it in its well-padded bag and throw it over your shoulder.

I play praise & worship music and folk, primarily. I use this with my Martin J40-M with a Fishman Natural II pickup. Finger picking is my primary playing style. I use a Shure SM 58 mike.
This is a very quiet amp, very clean and clear. The guitar sounds pure. As does the vocal. I absolutely love the sound of this amp. The sound is why I bought it.
After I had owned the amp a few weeks, I bought a JBL 10" powered subwoofer w/150 watt amp for a couple hundred bucks from a major home electronics superstore. It takes the great sound of the Roland and makes it even better! You can feel the bass in your gut!The "subwoofer out" jack on the amp makes it easy to hook-up.

I've been playing 41 years and have owned many amps, small and large. I have to say this is by far the best! I would definitely buy the same amp again if it were lost or stolen. I bought an amp stand to get the amp up off the ground - although it's not necessary, with the stand I don't have to stoop to make adjustments. I was also seriously considering the California Blond, but the tone was better on the Roland (and with the subwoofer I have actually a better bass than with the Blond), the Roland has effects and hey, there's just no comparison between lugging around 50 pounds and throwing 21 pounds 10 ounces over your shoulder.
Lastly, the amp looks great! Clean styling, precision knobs - you know, it's just a great visual experience, as well. I certainly would never buy an amp for its appearance, but with everything else it's got going for it, what's a little icing on the cake!

This is a great amp! Both channels are very usable and easy to understand. I should say how I am using it, though, since it may be a bit non-traditional. I am using it as a stage monitor/DI running a D-28 into channel 1 and an electric through a modelling preamp into channel 2. I am sending line out to the house (via XLR). It works wonderfuly in this capacity. I've been searching for something full-range to handle the modeller (Digitech GNX2) and this handles it very nicely at respectable volumes. Given this usage, there are a few features that I would love to see. First, I would like to be able to optionally bypass the EQ circuitry, at least in channel 2 (my line-in from the Digitech). As it is, I have to carefully shape the EQ to prevent too much additional coloration. Second, I would like to for the mono line out to be balanced (TRS). Third, an effects loop would be great. All things considered, though, these are pretty minor concerns - I love the amp.

Sound is what sold me on this amp. A previous reviewer said that the chorus was great. Normally I hate chorus on acoustic, but this I love. I'm sure I will over-use it and someone will have to remind me that not every song needs chorus.
I expected that it would sound great with acoustic (and it does), but I am particularly pleased with ho well it handles heavily processed electric (distortion, delay, other types of modulation, etc.) Again, that is what I have been searching for in a small package. I can rip off screaming solos (through the mains) and not blow out my ears on stage. I rarely rate anything a 10, but I really have no complaints at all about the sound. In fact, I cannot imagine (unless I send my bass through this) that I will ever need the Subwoofer out.
The EQ is pretty versatile, and the notch filter works fine. I do wish that the notch filter could be assigned to only one channel, but I guess I understand why it's not.

Not enough data to comment on long-term reliability yet, but I like the gig bag. Construction is good, nothing loose or rattling. Controls are reasonably well-protected.

I've been playing various instruments for 30 years. In all that time I have never purchased an acoustic amp. Given my most recent needs, this was near perfect. I looked at several competitors (Yorkville, Ultrasound, Crate, Trace) and nothing (in the price range) was as versatile or as small. Size matters!

Read the Roland web site for detailed listing of features. One thing that concerned me prior to purchase was the fact that you can not independantly control the depth and speed of the chorus. Well, no that I own it there is no issue. The factory chorus is just about as beautiful an effect as you could imagine adding to an acoustic sound. I won't bore you with the details but know this; I can not imagine any piece of equipment that could give you a better, more lush, natural, professional, pure, thick, or more beautiful chorus than this unit does...Amazingly beautiful, even for the tonal purist. The same goes for the reverb and delay. If you are the type who thinks that adding anything to an acoustic guitars sound is criminal then you will still love this amp because, with the effects turned off, it is a pure a reproduction of the input signal as I have ever heard...with just a touch of eq'ing of course. If on the other hand you like the flexibility to add chorus, reverb or delay then you will find this amp is to die for... enough said about the effects.
Portability... This amp comes in a top quality padded gig bag that you can hang from your sholder. Its light, strong and portable. The amp gig bag also includes pockets for mics and cables or perhaps a compressor or whatever...
This amp is a pleasure to look at too... looks as good as it sounds.

I play a Taylor 510 with Fishman under saddle pickup and a Washburn D-94 LTD with a sound hole pick up. The amp responds to both very well and produces a beautiful sound with either instrument.
I play at church and for fellowships, retreats and so forth. This thing makes it easy to dial up a great sound anywhere...without a bunch of number based patch menu's.

No comment yet but it is worth noting that Roland does not have the owners manuals on-line like most other manufacturers do. That limits the value of their website and makes a comment about how much they care for the daily needs of musicians but still, the amp is great!

Been playing 13 years and I own a lot of gear. Plugged into many amps and this one still is amazing!! One note, you should try Zzounds.com for purchase...they beat the heck out of Musicians Friend(MF)on pricing. I had to ask for the deal but they quickly gave me a price no one else could touch...MF didn't even try when I asked them!!

I bought the amp in September 2003 for #300 in the UK, the stereo sound with small speakers packs quite a punch. Both channels have reverb and wide chorus etc available and feedback suppresion which can be set manually or automatically both systems work well.
I have used it in small venues with a mike and guitar going through the respective channels and the response is good, although I wish it was a 100 watt amp to save carrying around a PA system although the AC 60 combo can be used as a monitor and fed through a PA system for larger venues.

It has about everything you could want in a small acoustic amp , stereo sound , stereo chorus, delay ,reverb , 2 channels ,line out to pa ,speaker stand mount for greater projection (speaker stand is a must have accessory to add on later) and 21 lbs to boot. The only amp out their that compairs (but actually surpasses ) is the carvin ag100 acoustic amp which i own also . I give this an 9 in this catagory only because I own the carvin which gets an 10 +++

I play fingerstyle acoustic guitar mostly classic rock and doyle dykes style instrumentals . I use a Taylor 714 ce ltd and a taylor NS42ce nylon string guitar . I am also a vocalist which this amp accomidates nicely . It has a great sound which does compare favorably to most on the market .Very natural sounding ,but the real seller on this amp is the portability . At 21 lbs and rather small size to pack it to practice or anyware without all the fuss of taking all the extra stuff. Guitar in one hand amp in the other !!! And no back aches. If you Want a better bass response the Carvin ag 100 is the amp for you It has a better sound with the 12 inch speaker and tweeter. Plus an external speaker out which I plug a 12 and a horn monitor into for even more output and bass response ( Their I Go adding more stuff again ) . The carvin is a way better sounding amp with tons more features and applications for use While being less money to boot (buying factory direct through Carvin of course at carvin.com ) but on the other hand this roland is great sounding and smaller more portable but the carvin only weights in at 34 lbs and more features. It's a toss up for me so I'll keep my carvin for gigs and buy the roland to run around with .

If your looking for customer support its as close as your local dealer but I have delt with roland before and they are way to big a company for the little man. So find a good dealer and your set (you most likely wont need them any way ).I give them a 1 because i have delt with carvin equiptment so long that i have to high of an expectation on other companys like personal prompt sevice with a smile and you can call and talk to a tech at carvin about anything you'll have your question or problem solved.

I mainly wrote this review because i was so impressed with my buddys . I would like to find out where the other reviewer bought one for $250 new.Now that was a steal . All in all this is the portability champ and sound quality was not sacraficed. The carvin is still the bang for the buck champ which has more features sounds fuller more powerfull more natural better overall But if you want the ultimate in portabuillity and great sound and effects all in one this is the amp for you.((((((((((( If anyone Knows where the other reviewer bought the one for $250 new please e-mail me ,Thank you .)))))))))rrolljr@peoplepc.com

This is a brand new, 2003, Roland Acoustic Chorus, AC-60 amplifier. It has two channels. Ch 1 is the guitar channel with pickup selection (magnetic or piezo), a shape button (modifies the mids) and three band EQ. Ch2 is either mic or line, this input can take XLR or TRS(tip ring sleeve) jacks. It has switches for phantom power and to select mic or line, plus the three band EQ. Each channel has its own volume control so you can use it to balance and mix levels from two different sources. There is a very good reverb/delay that effects both the channels at the same time and a chorus with very good options that can be selected by switches on both channels seperately. Finally, there's a universal anti feedback control that operates either manually or auto and a master volume control that adjusts the output level to the speakers, headphone jack and sub woofer output jack. There is also a master mute switch. The amp is very versatile. I've never been more please with a music purchase. It does everything I wanted and has all the features I need. The sound is great! I don't need the subwoofer for my applications just yet, but having the option is nice. I've used it at home with all my acoustics and with my Godin LGX (acoustic output) monitoring through the speakers and with headphones. The sound is fantastic. The Godin comes alive acoustically trough the amp. I've used it for two full band rehearsals and it's been great. I can play the Godin and not get lost in the monitor mix. I like the included travel case. I keep a tuner in one pouch and my BOSS AD-3 in the other. I run the Godin in CH-1 (for the guitar) and my Garrison acoustic dreadnaught through the BOSS AD-3 into CH-2 (the mic/line input). The AC-60 allows me to balance a mix of the two, feed that to the P.A. mixer and adjust my personal monitoring level with the master volume. Fantastic!
The reverb is very good and the chorus options are rich and full and can add body to the sound without getting cheesy. The other options are like icing on the cake for me.
The amp is stereo, with 6.5 inch speakers in a specially designed cabinet. It tilts back and is equipped to be mounted on a standard speaker stand.
The rear panel offers balanced, stereo XLR outputs plus a MONO 1/4" phono jack out. There's a jack to feed a powered subwoofer and a DI out/Tuner out jack. It has RCA and 1/4" phono jack Aux inputs for other devices. There are also two foot switch jacks; one for the chorus/delay, the other for anti-feedback. What more could you want. The Line outs are NOT affected by the Master volume. You can balance your input levels with the channel volume controls, feed the signal to a P.A. mixing board and set the Amp Master volume to whatever monitoring level works best. Fantastic!! The Master Volume controls the speaker, headset and sub woofer volumes. The DI out/tuner out by-passes all the amp's circuitry, it can either be used as a RTS 1/4" balanced output or be split to send an unbalanced feed to a tuner and to a mixer at the same time.

The sound is good and clean. Just what's needed for acoustic instruments. There's plenty of volume at 30W+30W for any monitoring or medium venue gig playing. I even had our drummer ask me to turn down a bit or angle the amp away because, combined with his monitor feed, he was hearing too much guitar! Obviously, this system is optimised to be used in conjunction with regular monitors to help boost and cut through, so, as a guitarist, you can hear your instrument over everything else. If you want the full frequency response, then add the sub woofer that's available as an option. The sound is very good without it, but some may want the full bass response it will provide; especially if they are using the amp without patching into a P.A.
The amp is quiet and I haven't noticed any particular hiss coming from it or into the system when it's patched into a mixer. I really like the reverb and the various chorus options (I commented on them above). The only reason I'm saying 9 rather than 10 is the need for the sub woofer to enhance the bass if you're using it as a stand alone system. May be I'm being a bit picky. However, at 21 lbs 10 ozs and with a carrying case, it's an amazingly portable, gigging machine.

I've delt with Roland Canada before and always find them helpful and friendly. Hasn't needed repairs yet, come to think of it, none of my Roland/Boss gear has. I think it's a two year warranty. I registered on line and didn't check too closely. My local music dealer has always been good about handling warranty work for me.

I've been playing for thirty five years and own several acoustic and electric guitars and amps. I've whatched my band mates struggle with the heftier acoustic amps out there on the market or pay twice as much money for a similar unit. This is an amazing bang for the buck, professional unit. If it were lost or stolen I'd have to replace it. It replaces a bunch of pedals and cables plus gives me better monitoring. I love its sound, versatility and light weight portability and can't really think of anything that I'd add to it.

THE Roland AC-60 acoustic guitar amp has chorus, reverb, delay and expanded chorus - all in stereo - for on board effects. it has feedback supression, two 6" speakers, two channels-one for guitar other for mic. simple but all I needed. Not quite the features that some amps have.

I have a martin A/E with onboard fishman pre-amp, and piezo bridge pick-up. I also have a carvin AE185. Both guitars sound really good through this amp. There is a bit of a hiss so I am not sure how this would work with a recording unit, I haven't tried using the direct out feature to see if teh hiss is eliminated. The hiss is not major, can't notice it on stage. effects are nice, the guitar sound really shines through this amp. I would compare it to the Ultrasound but I think the ultrasound was quieter but i got this for a bit cheaper than the ultrasound so I felt I could live with a tad bit of hiss. Otherwise the amp is great sounding.

I have been playing for about twenty years. Equipment i own includes: a Martin A/E, Carvin AE185, Yamaha classical, Alvarez 12 string, a Gibson es-335, a Gibson sg, a Fender telecaster, a Sagin custom, a Fender quad-reverb, a carvin bel-air and a ampeg reverb rocket head and 4x12 cab...I need to stop buying stuff...Nah!
if this amp was lost or stolen I would be upset. I would consider buying this model again IT DOES SOUND GOOD, but many of the acoustic amps out there are getting pretty competetive and without sitting down and comparing them side by side it is hard to tell sometimes which is best. The Roland AC-60 is a very good amp. I did also liked the Ultrasound 50, and the new peavey ecoustic model with effects is not bad but size wise the roland is a champ.
