Bought it used for 150 bucks in 2005. Mint condition, with amp cover and footswitch.
Features include two channels, shared EQ, presence, Master volume and separate channel volumes. Channel one has a bright switch. Channel two has a drive knob for overdrive. The speaker is a single 12" 45 watt Roland...Made by Eminence and modeled after the Celestion Greenback speaker. Thirty watts is the rated output of the amp and it's a LOUD thirty watts. There is no reverb on this amp.
This is a straightforward tone machine without effects loop or headphone jack. Not a lot of bells and whistles. You won't miss them once you plug into this amp. It produces a wonderful tone and behaves just like an amp based on tubes, especially where the individual channel volumes are concerned. Turn up the channel volumes and you get a smooth overdriven tone. Back off the channel volumes and you get a more pure tone, even on the overdrive channel, which has it's own drive knob. The amp has a nice interaction with the guitar's volume settings, too. Surprisingly dynamic.
The master volume and presence controls allow you to set the overall volume and tinbre of the two channels. HUGE versatility.
I use this for classic rock and blues. My "7" rating reflects the lack of bells and whistles compared to other amps of the day but I wouldn't trade this Roland for a semi full of the rest of them. In my humble opinion this is the best sounding solid state amp ever made...period. I also own the BC 60 112 and the BC 60 310 because they are just as good, only with more features and more power. They produce the same great tone of the BC 30, which is why I own them.

Like I said, the Roland Blues Cubes are exceptional tone machines no matter which one you choose to own. The BC 30 is the runt of the litter but don't let its size and features put you off. This is a great sounding machine as a practice amp or a small club amp.
I play through it with humbucker and single coil pickups on an assortment of guitars. Believe me the Blues Cubes all allow for your guitar's personality to shine through. I don't use any pedals with it except a reverb pedal with true bypass.
The overdrive is not real hot but it works well as a boost for solos and crunchy rhythm parts. Forget BRUTAL...But it's the perfect amp for blues, classic rock, funk, R&B and hard rock. Quiet as a mouse, too.
I've used it in garages, small studio settings, outdoor gigs and for practice. It's light and easy to carry. Everything needed for great tone and nothing you don't need, really. If it had reverb it would be perfect but hey...for the price / performance ratio it's unbeatable. With my Rolands I have no need to ever own another tube amp. I'm not knocking tube amps because I've certainly owned my share of them but the BC line produces the tone without the hassle and expense so I'm sticking to these solid state dolls. They shine.

Never had a problem with a Roland or Boss product.

I have no idea. I own a lot of Roland and Boss gear but never needed a repair.
Overall Rating

I started playing seriously in 1987. Joined a band in the early 90s and have been playing semi-pro since then. Owned a lot of gear but now am down to four Roland amps and four guitars, plus some BOSS pedals. I'm sold on Roland / Boss. Can you tell? LOL
There's nothing I hate about the BC 30. It delivers a consistent sound and it's reliable. There are no other amps in the solid state world that I would compare it to except maybe the Tech 21 solid state amps, which cost much more and require a lot of dialing in for each guitar you use with them. Tech 21 amps are not as dynamic as the BC amps but they are made to emulate Fender, Marshall and Boogie amps whereas the Roland BC amps are made to reproduce the clean and overdriven sounds of good tube amp, period. Of the Tech 21 line I like the little 10 watt unit, although i think it's way overpriced. I respect both of these manufacturers but to my ears the Roland amps just sound better and are easier to use.
I would buy this amp again in a minute. For me there is nothing else to compare to the BC amps. I'm sold on the tone and the simple, easy to use controls.
