Solid state. Made in 2007, it has a clean channel and distortion channel with 4 distortion types: overdrive, distortion, metal, and metal stack. No effects, though.

I'm using an all mahogany Gibson LP with Burstbucker Pro pickups. I'm using it as a bedroom practice amp. It wasn't made with gigging in mind. This amp is just what I was looking for when I bought it. I needed something relatively inexpensive, as I was on an extremely tight budget. I heard that it had the Boss Super Overdrive technology built into it, but I didn't have the cash to buy it, plus a new amp, so, voila! Problem solved. It has that crunchy, tube like sound that not many solid state amps can reproduce. The only comparison I could make is maybe the first generation Peavey Transtube series. Those were solid, great sounding AND feeling amps that were built in Mississipi. I owned one back in the day, then I sold it for a Marshall. Big mistake. But this Roland rocks! The Overdrive and metal stack settings are the only ones I use, although with the right tweaking, you can actually get a Keith Richards-type crunch out of the Metal setting. I like the od for the older bluesy rock type stuff, and for Black Sabbath and KISS riffs. The Metal stack gives you a cool Megadeth-type sound. The distortion isn't fizzy at all. It's very "power amp", rather than preamp in nature. Not noisy at all, either.

I've had it for about seven months, and never had any problems with it. I hear Roland gear is built very well (this is my first Roland). It seems pretty rugged. Time will tell.

I've been playing for fifteen years, and I really don't want to try to list all the gear I've owned here. Right now, I've got this amp, and my Gibson, but based on the quality of this amp, and the reviews I'm reading, I'm probably gonna get the cube 20x next. I think the tube drive would be a neat feature to have. Not that I don't like tubes, I just don't like the attendant issues that go along with owning a tube amp. Also, I need effects. I had to settle for the less expensive 15x at the time I bought this, so the effects were basically a "luxury" feature to me t the time. Before I bought this, I bought a Marshall MG15, but returned it after a week. The tone sucked, clean or distorted. For about fifty dollars less, I got a far superior sound. There's a lesson I learned...don't buy a piece of gear because your favorite player uses it. Buy what sounds good to YOU. I can sound more like Page, or Iommi, or Frehley with this than I ever could with that MG15. I'm hoping to buy an Epiphone Elitist Standard Plus, I think it would sound killer through this thing! For the money, you can't go wrong with this amp. If you like
Black Sabbath, KISS, Zeppelin, Megadeth, Priest, Iron Maiden, or even country and jazz, there's a tone in here for ya.

Do you know what year the amp was made in? No
Is the amp versatile enough for you and the styles of music you play? What are those styles? I play mostly all kinds of metal, death metal, black metal, hard rock etc. I don't think it suits my style, because the four distortion modes (overdrive, distortion, metal and metal stack) sound like typical practice amp distortion.
How many channels? Does it have channel switching? Effects loops? Headphone jack? The amp has two channels: clean and lead channel. Lead channel is the channel that has the distortion modes. It has channel switching. It has EQ section, headphone jack, power squeezer and aux in.
What features do you wish it had? Why? Are there features you never use? I wish it had a reverb and better distortion. I only use the EQ because I have Zoom G2 multieffects pedal.
Where do you use this amp? I use it at home.

How brutal is the distortion? Distortion is very unclear and horrible.
What guitar and pickup styles are you using it with? I use it with Fender mexican stratocaster, with it's stock pickups.

Can you depend on it? Would you use it on a gig without a backup? I can depend on it. I wouldn't use it in a gig beacause its a practice amp.

How long have you been playing? What other gear do you own? I have been playing for half a year. I own Fender mexican strat, this amp and zoom g2 multieffect pedal.
If it were stolen I'd probably buy a better and more powerful amp.
