Roland Cube-15 Combo

Im into pretty much every style of music and this amp has the versitility to make any sound i need. It has 3 equelizers, headphone jack(which is very nice) a clean channel and 4 types of distortion. These distortion settings will allow you to replicate almost any style pretty well. While it doesnt have effects such as chorus or reverb, im not sure i would use those effects anyway...Ive only been playing for about a year and a half, and i got this amp when i started taking lessons. My old amp sucked so i got this guy at a pawn shop. and it has yet to dissapoint.

The sound is good enough to make my crappy lyon sound good. As i said earlier it can replicate many styles. all the distortion settings are unique and versitile. the only real problems are the fact that it makes noise even when there isnt a guitar plugged in, and somthimes on the clean channel, higher notes are very shrill. However the pros toatally out-do the cons on this

I am not in a band and dont gig(however i would love to one day) But as i said i bought it at a pawn shop. I dont know if it went through any abuse with the previous owner, but it still works perfectly. I take good care of my equitment and i dont this will break down in the near future(knock on wood)

i play guitar as a hobby,although its a very obsessive hobby. If i lost it, i would probebly upgrade to a larger version such as the 30 watt. but that doesnt mean its not good. If you are a guitarist in training get it. Im not sure how good it would sound at a gig or whatever but i know for my needs it works perfectly.

Fairly simple - Three pot Eq, 1 clean channel with volume control, and one distortion channel with four amp models with varying levels of distortion, plus gain and volume controls.

I did try out the cube 20x in the shop. I liked the extra punch but didn't like the fact that I'd be paying an extra ??35 for a tuner and effects that I wouldn't use. Now if Roland did a 20x without the tuner and effects I'd have snapped it up.

I'm giving a low score for features because it is a fairly basic amp. However a basic amp is what I wanted so please don't think the low score means it's a bad amp.

My main guitar is an unmodified US Telecaster. This amp brings out the Telecaster 'bark'. I had also tried out simarly wattage Peaveys, Marshalls, and Vox amps. The Peavey and Marshall both failed to reproduce the telecaster punch. The Vox was actually very good with a wide range of sounds, and it was a close run thing between that and the Roland. I think the simplicity of the Roland did it for me as I'm not one for using many effects.

I play mainly rock and blues, but plenty of other stuff too. The four distortion models give the range of sounds I want but I appreciate that other players may want more models and effects.
The distortion is never overly brutal, so probably wouldn't suit metallers.

Some noise at high volumes on the distorted channel, but not enough to be a nuisance. No rattles - everything seems well put together.

I like the fact that when using the distortion channel that rolling off the guitar's volume to about three-quarters will clean up the sound beautifully, which helps with the versatility.

I play in a church worship group and this amp is sufficient for our congregation of just under 100. Can play with drums with volume round about half, but then we're generally playing gentle stuff. Wouldn't cut it in a larger venue.

Too early to tell - Rolands have a good reputation in this regard and it certainly appears to be robust.

As other people have probably mentioned, 4 types of distortion, 1 clean channel, line out/headphone, channel switch button, 3 band EQ.

Would have been nice to have reverb on this amp, this would make it usuable for other things beside bedroom practice.

You can get a pretty good sound out of this (compared to other practice amps) by using the EQ properly.

The tonal difference between the distortion settings is huge, here's some tips:

Metal stack, it is a thin, hollow sound, cut the trebles, boost the mids right up and the bass to about 8 (this is with gain on full) and it sounds better.

Metal: more mids, bass and treble on about 5 (12 oclock)

Distortion: Less mids, less bass, slightly boosted trebles

Overdrive: same as distortion.

It's a practice amp, you don't gig with this thing.. but this is is solid as a rock, I'm sure it would never breakdown.

I use this for teaching guitar, my students plug into this and I plug into my stack. If it were stolen, I'd probably buy a larger amp like a fender hot rod deluxe or something, because I need two amps, but I also need a new small amp for doing jazz gigs.

for a practice amp this is great.

This cube is a great practise and begginer amp, with a clean and lead channel, with four lead channels; Distortion, overdrive, metal and metal stack. It has gain, volume (obviously), bass, middle, treble but no reverb or chorus. It has a nice headphone jack aswell. also the bass middle treble volume and gain have 20 little notches that makes it a bit confusing.

For my style of playing(metal), it is great and the distortion would leave a kooks fan in a crumpled heap on the floor, But in my opinion only metal stack has a nice tone for a mixture of rock, metal and some other genres. works well with any bc rich warlock. IT can go up to high volumes and still keep a nice tone.

I havnt had any problems with mine, but i would not use it at a good gig without backup.

I don't know the year it was built, but I bought it new one week ago.
I'm a beginner in playing the guitar, and I cannot define clearly which styles I play. I played some rock riffs and simple songs to test the amp. It doesn't get 10 points because I would like to have a chorus and a reverb.
It has got 2 channels (Clean/Lead), no effect loop and a "recording-out/phones"-jack.
It has enough power for me (and maybe even enough for my neighbours...). Since I cannot play very loud in my room, it's ok.
I think it wouldn't be loud enough when playing with a band.

The clean sound is good, there are 4 types of lead (distorted) sounds: "Distortion", "Overdrive", "Metal" and "Metal Stack".
I think that they are all pretty nice. I much prefer the distorted sounds over the ones by small Marshall amps I know (MG-30 DFX, MG-50 DFX).
What really annoys me is that the amp produces noise, even if all volume and gain knobs are turned to 0 and no guitar is plugged in.
I have some sensitive headphones and the noise was too loud to play at normal volumes. There was also a 50Hz hum with headphones.
I tested another amp (the same Cube-15) and it was this noisy, too.
So I returned the Cube-15 and took a Vox Pathfinder 10, with is really better, I think.
For the price of the Roland I could also get a small chorus-stompbox.

Used it only some days and it didn't broke, but as I said:
It's not the best in manufacturing quality even if the case looks unbreakable.

No, I would not buy this amp again, I would take a Vox Pathfinder 10.
I love, that you can "fasten" the power-cable at the back of the amp.
I hate the noise.
The sound is not bad...

2 channels (clean & dirty), 1 input, bass mid and treb knobs for both channels, etc etc etc. No reverb knob or built-in effects.
I do like the 4 distortion settings, which really adds versatility. I'll talk about that later.

For a small amp with a fairly low wattage (15 watt), it REALLY packs a punch. It could easily fill a small venue, but probably not a huge auditorium or something. I only use the amp in my bedroom (I'm only 14), but when nobody's home, I turn it up to almost a third of its volume, and it'd be loud enough to drive the neighbours absolutely insane. But oh well.

This beast has all the features an amateur guitarist would really need.

Back to that 4-way distortion setting switch.. This is how it works...
-Overdrive : fairly unobtrusive, sometimes a bit weak for my taste, but good for most pre-70's rock.
-Distortion : Ditto, but a fair bit stronger, and good for some 70's rock (listen to the chorus of 'no quarter' by led zeppelin.. that kind of sound)
-Metal : BRILLIANT rock sound.. think AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, deep purple... Most rock, really.. Plenty of character and bite, and sounds awesome turned up loud. I use this most of the time.
-Metal Stack : Good thrash metal sound, typical of metallica, pantera, etc

I use mainly a cheapish les paul copy, with a normal H/H set up. I play mainly 70's metal/rock, and little bits of blues, jazz, etc.

The clean is nothing special, though, it does the job and there's bass mid and treb knobs for it, but that's basically all you need.

I can't wait til I hear a gibson through this beast!

Consistent and reliable. I'd bring a spare amp to a gig just in case, cos you never know what'll happen, even with the very best gear.

Never dealt with Roland. Probably never will, knowing the quality of this amp.

I'm 14, and have been playing for 7 months, but I can play most of Jimmy Page's (Led Zeppelin) solos. (I'm the most proud of finally getting The Song Remains The Same right).

My first amp was a SoundArt amp, but it was absolute shit. This was a breath of fresh air, and I'll keep it forever. If this can make a $400 AUD les paul copy sound so great, then it'll sound PHENOMENAL with a real Gibson.

If I lost my amp, firstly, I'd slap myself repeatedly, then i'd go and buy the next step up, a cube-30. It has more knobs and more volume. I could have bought a Fender amp, but I chose this instead for better value and sound.

Roland is one of the best amp manufacturers in the world. This amp is testament.

i have owned my cube 15 for about 3 years. sure, i would like amp models, but these can be gimmicky. 2 channels and 4 onboard pedals. better than any other practice amp for the price, outside of the microcube.

i generally use the distortion, or metal setting. i am a wall of sound type player... think jesus and mary chain meets

3 years and going strong. most practice amps i have owned for this long sound scratchy, noisy and usually have a blown speaker. this one is solid and dependable...

they answer emails, prompty and are quite helpful. they weren't so helpful with questions about my boss pd-1 rocker distortion from the early 80's, but that is asking a bit much.

2005 Model. Very feature rich for a $100 practice amp and the features are better than you'd expect in an amp in this price range. Outstanding quality. I play classic rock, southern rock, soul, blues and country. This amp handles it all with ease and it's very loud. You could play a gig with this amp if it were a small venue. It's a two channel amp and the distortion channel has many styles from which to choose. I'm not a metal head but the metal setting on this amp is perfect for hard rock and southern rock. It breaks up nicely and the sustain rings forever. I almost never like on board distortion but in this case the amp's distortion is better than most of the pedals I've ever owned. The amp has all the jacks you need and it's built to last forever.

I use my amp with a Ventura Country Gentleman (semi-hollow body 335 style with coil taps), Hamer Les Paul copy and Epiphone Les Paul copy. My guitars have humbucker pickups. All of the guitars sound great through this amp, especially the Les Pauls playing leads on the metal distortion setting using the rear pickup. The sustain rings forever and the tone is amazing. Will cut through a rythm guitar and overpower a drummer without breaking a sweat. No noise, hum or feedback when you aren't playing.

No problems so far. Seems like it's built to last forever.

I've been playing twenty years. This was $100 well spent. I can't imagine ever practicing without a Roland Cube 15 so I'd get another the same day if it were lost or stolen. It's built like a brick $%^& house, small and easy to cart around and sounds great. Compared it to all the other practice amps before I bought it...Fender, Crate, First Act, Peavey, Line 6...blew them all away. A foot pedal would be a nice upgrade. I'd pay a few bucks more if it came with the amp.

1 rcvd as a gift xmas of 04 assuming it was made that year 2 does just what i need it to do 3 two channels with od/metal/stack distortion effects,record out,headphone jack,aux-in jack 4 ditch the dist models and give me reverb!!!!more on that later...5 PLENTY of power for home use.

1 i use a washburn wi64 and washburn semi-hollow and a japstrat sometimes. my secret is my behringer modeller. the superb clean lets the amp models come right through.i especially like the semi through an acoustic mode (doesnt sound acoustic at all but gives a nice bright boost)really sound like a big amp. the distortion is disappointing in that there's plenty of gain but they just sound muddy.....or mid-heavy,and the eq won't clean it up.the metal stack sounds good,nice and tight,but i don't use it much. it's never made any noise,and it will break up just a bit when you really crank it clean.

i,ve had it over a year and through almost daily use,it still looks and sounds new....i think its bomb-proof.

i've been playing for 3 yrs..blues,rock and whatever catches my ear..stolen ?lost? i'd probably get a bigger cube!!!i love it's looks,easy use,great tone(for 15w) i just hate that it doesn't have reverb.i also have a 15w marshall and sometimes for fun i'll run the marshall into the cube 'cause the speaker is so much better!!!

2 channels and 4 overdrive/distortion effects that are as good a quality as Roland's line of Boss pedals. Separate volume controls for the clean and effects channels. This amp is very good and appeals to Rock musicians more than any other genre.

10-Sounds F@cking Brutal-Awesome For Metal and Hard Rock!!! I especially like the Metal setting on the distortion channel. This setting is pretty much a ringer for the Boss MT-2 pedal.

I have been playing for eighteen years. This is one of the best practice amps I have ever owned and the best amp in it's price range.

probably 2005, this amp is good while you watch TV and you have a cheap Squier plugged in. Not suitable for what I play- (instrumental/experimental/indie rock/noise/old rock)very limited tonal value with a digital high pitched noise in the clean channel. This amp has 4 distortion models built into it that sound reminiscient of old Boss Overdrive and Hyper Metal pedals with all of the knobs set to the middle of them- good practice amp for shredders that own huge, expensive marshall or mesa-boogie stacks- really bassy and crunchy metal distortion. Not for me, but amazing tone for someone else.

The main dissapointment that this amp brings to me is that it has a very limited cheap digital equalization. The Bass is way too middy and muddy, while the highs are non-existant no matter how high you crank the high knob, and when you do, you get this terrible high pitched digital/computeresque noise that I just could'nt stand. The mid control is, well,.. middy- to sum it up it is as if the amp has 3 mid control knobs- thats it. HUGE LACK IN DYNAMICS... this goes for the clean channel- most importantly.

As I said, the distortion channels are great for new age hardcore kids to practice with- and I would definitely reccomend this amp for that purpose. The metal distortion is good for hardcore/metal, rock distortion model is good for queen/led zepplin style rock, distortion is good for Pete Townsend emulators, overdrive model is ok for blues, but sounds incredibly cheap.

I paired this amp up to this VOX Pathfinder 15 R that I have had for 3 years and there is simply no comparison to that amp in my opinion (As far as non-tube 15 watt practice amps go)

for the 24 hours i had it, it definetly felt like the constrution was sturdy enough, but I,m not too sure how long these newfangled digital modeling amps will stand the test of time.

been playing for almost 14 years, have had several guitars/ amps/pedals. I returned this small amp in for a used dunlop cry-baby wah and a few other little things. Again- good for hardcore or newer metal players, but terrible for anyone else.

Always support and get familiar with local/family owned instrament sellers- not guitar center or musicians' friend as tempting and convinient as that is.

Hey, it is a cheap amp, what do you think you can expect? However, i like the four styles of distortion and the equalizer does his job. Pity that there is no Reverb.

Also nice is the record oud-jack an the aux in-jack.

I love the sound. It sounds.. brutal. Wow I love the four modes (like i already said). However the clean channel isn't very special. But in distortion mode, this little Lego brick will blow you away!

I just bought the amp, but it is too f****** poor that there is no Roland office in the Netherlands. So if my handsome brick is broken, i've got to take a ride to Belgium.

Better then Fender, anyway. The nearest office is in Germany. Yes, in Berlin. That's a long trip, i can tell you.

I've played for five years, this is my first amp (i bought it a week after i bought my Fender Squier Stratocaster). It if was stolen, i would beg for money and buy this amp again.

I love the design, i love the sound, i love the features. What do I dislike? Eeh.. the size. It is small.. very small. It won't make a smashing impression at your friends.

But for those 140 euro's, it is definitely worth the price. Rolaaaaaand!

For the price and size of this little practice amp, it is loaded.
4 modes of gain, clean, 3 band EQ, gain, recording/headphones out, aux in, and yes, a super long power cord.
Nice front grill and small square design. Very lite and efficient.

This is where I got super impressed with this amp.
The cleans are sparkling and the "metal stack" setting is down right BRUTAL!! Smooths out nicely on "overdrive" and "distortion".
A killer price on a good quailty, great sounding little practice amp.

I took one of my friends amp shopping. He played tons of Marshalls and Mesas, but at the end of the day, he was most impressed with the tiny Cube 15 that I showed him. haha

I have had it for about 2 months. Seems to be very reliable and sturdy. Roland made it, come on, they rock!!

If your looking for a low priced, awesome sounding little practice amp, then look no further. Best one I have tried out for the money. The Micro Cube beats it out in features, but the Cube 15 is $50 cheaper.
I play PRS through a Mesa Tremoverb, so when looking for a good practice amp, I needed something that had some balls. I found the ticket. I write alot of our bands material on this little beauty now.
I bet it even sounds killer in the studio.

15 watt solid state practice-recording amp. 3 band EQ, 2 channel, aux-input jack and headphone-record jack-out. Closed back. 4 overdrive-distortion settings on lead channel. All controls and jacks mounted on top of cabinet. Rather long power cord which I think is a real plus on a practice amp.

Growl...Growl!...GROWL! Strictly a rock amp. My American Strat sounds as if this little box was custom voiced for it. My SG Special sounds very humbucker muddy through it, but SGs always sound muddy and nasty anyway. My Ric 12 and semi hollow 6 don't fair as well. The amp doesn't let the trademark Rickenbacker chime through. They sound good, just not like a Ric should. My Fender Global 200 acoustic-electric with my Boss compressor and my Electric Mistress flanger sounds great, very dark acoustic ring, very Pink Floyd. Running full throttle with the Strat the amp has the best just-about-to-break-up tone I've yet to hear on a small amp. The first overdrive setting on the lead channel takes it over the line and I find it quite good. The other 3 however are like most metal distortion settings on cheaper amps, just noise, loud-louder-loudest. No real tone left at all. For real rocknroll a 9, for anything else a 5. I give it a 7. When I feel like rock it's great, when I slip into anything else it's only adequate.

It's a brick. It's Roland solid state. I don't think there's anything that really could go wrong with it. Only time ever tells about these matters.

Dealer says; "Any problems, bring it back...I've been selling them ever since they came out, never had one come back yet...and I've sold a lot of 'em." I deal with this guy every once in awhile and I trust him. He's been in the business a long time.

Looking at 25 years now. I should be much better than I am. My electrics are an American Fender Deluxe Strat, Gibson SG Special, Rickenbacker 360 6 string and a 660 12 banger. My bass is an ancient Yamaha BB300 P bass. (A good 57 Fender copy when I bought it over 20 years ago.) My acoustics are a Fender Gemini 3 I bought new some 20+ years ago, Seagull Cedar+ 12 string, Fender New Global Design 200 electric-accoustic. Amps are a Laney 50 watt twin head combo, Fender Frontman 25 watter, Crate 15 watt keyboard amp. (Used as an acoustic amp) Bass amps are an Ampeg R50 and a Crate B10 that was bought with the Yamaha when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. There are several others in there not worth mentioning. Effects and gadgets are Boss C3 Compressor and Sustainer, Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Electric Mistress, Ibanez Delay-Echo pedal, Boss B10 Wah Pedal, a Schaffier soundhole pickup and a Deluxe Little Smokie Pocket amp, (One of the best $25-$30 investments a picker can make in my opinion.) Kyser Capos out the wing wah both 12 and 6 string models. I know that makes some players cringe. Lots more odds and ends. I trade nothing and I sell nothing. I was raised to never give up instruments, firearms, or women...I know, HILLBILLY! But I'm good natured about it. I was interested in an Orange Crush 10. I needed a smaller amp to carry around with me, you know, picnics and such. The Frontman 25 was bought for that years ago. Still a little big and at higher volume-gain it gets noisey and loses tone. The Roland loses nothing and is much handier on the run. It's much more amp than the Orange and seems much better made. It stomps the Frontman hands down. This amp was bought for it's convenience and price range and Roland's reputation. I think it's a great little amp for it's niche. I'd buy it again without thinking about it what-so-ever and I've already recommended it to several newbies short on cash and just getting started. It's a decent little amp.

because it has everything a beginner could want. It is an excellent
amp for the experienced player who needs a portable practice amp.I
chose this amp for my son to buy as a first amp. I did a lot of
research, and I am convinced that this amp is the best deal for the

Again, this amp deserves a "10" for it's sound quality. The clean
channel is very "warm" and tube-like. The distortion channel sounds
good, and inspires beginners with "full stack"- type crunch. By this,
I mean, "for the money", because I have a orig. 65 Super Reverb, a
Hiwatt, and a Marshall JCM 602, and I know what good tube-tone sounds
like. I cannot understand the folks who gave this amp poor marks
because it didn't sound like an expensive tube amp. That is NOT what
this baby is supposed to be--but it does VERY well. I like playing
this thing as much or more than my son does!

It is new from Zzounds, so I cannot comment here. However, I have had
only good experiences with Roland/ Boss gear.

Again, it is new, but it has a very good warranty. Zzounds does a
great job standing behind their products.

I have been a "hobby" player for 30+ years. I have owned many "vintage" guitars and amps, so I have an informed opinion. This
little amp is the BEST deal you will find for $100, in fact, it would
be hard to find a better one for $150-$200. It does what it is made to do very well--be light, portable, compact---and sound great! The
headphone jack is very usefull when my son wants to practice while his brother is asleep in the same room. He has hardly stopped practicing since he got this little beauty--and that's the best compliment I can give! Anything that makes you want to play more is
GOOD! I get tired of reading reviews here where everything is a "10",
but this was the best $100 my son could have spent to fulfill his
dream of becoming a great guitarist. If something happened to this
amp, I wouldn't hesitate to get online with Zzounds, and have them
send out another one.

Bought new January 2004.

Able to give great sound to a wide variety of styles, from blues to bonecrunching metal. Comes with 4 built-in Boss pedal effects, which they call overdrive, distortion, metal, and metal stack. The last one is so distorted and extreme sustain, I notice it hides a lot of beginner mistakes in making clean transitions from chord to chord. I prefer the first two settings.

Amp is used at home; first in living room, now in my duaghter's bedroom. She has been playing a year, and is young and a bit shy about "getting the Led out". So most of its power sits unused. I have been known to crank it up a little and it has all the power you'd need at home, and then some.

Has clean channel too, of course, 3-band EQ, headphone out jack, line in jack. We have had some trouble with CD input as the CD volume must be controlled from the CD player, not the amp. And if you use the CD player line out, then the CD player may also punt on controlling the volume. I think we have to use the headphone output on the CD player to the Line in on the Cube, but the experience of extreme volume spooked us a bit and we haven't used it much since. We should make another try.

Also note that these model pedals require one to turn the switch on the unit itself. I think the Cube 30 may permit footswitching.

Used with Yamaha EG-012 (fat strat copy), soon to be used with OE30 (335 copy). Fantastic array of sounds, no distortion, but does hum slightly when on but not being used.

Distortion-a-plenty with modeling effects.

Only wish it had reverb/delay; I think the Cube 30 has that, but costs more than twice as much.

Seems very sturdy, has never given us trouble.

Playing 1 year. My daughter also owns a Marshall MS-2 micro amp and is getting a MicroCube soon (I will get the Led out on the Cube 15!).

I love the amp's versatility and reliability. The sounds are terrific and I can't imagine needing more power for home use. The broader amp and effect modeling on the Cube 30 looks very nice, and they've incorporated those into the Microcube (2 watts). I hope they migrate those to the Cube 15 someday too, perhaps pricing it at an intermediate point (though who would then buy the 30?).

Would like to try reverb and delay, or any number of other goodies, but it is great as is too. I don't even know what I'd want to use, but I love the versatility and price of this practice amp.

I got this for my daughter to learn guitar with so features are adequate. It has 4 gain stages on 1 channel and then a clean channel. Also has aux in and record/headphone out imputs. This amp is used inside the house and has plenty of volume to jam with a stereo or drum machine. Not a drummer though. Who would use this like that anyways? This is a beginners/portable practice amp. If you use it for something more you are crazy to expect it to perform otherwise. Icing on the cake would have been reverb.

I have played this at home with buckers. I found that you need to adjust EQ at each gain stage to get useable sounds or what I consider acceptable tone. This thing beat the snot out of what I first started out with 20yrs ago. My daughter will be using this with single coils once I get her mini strat. She in noodling with my guitars now but they are just too big. She is just starting and is 8. This is just right as far as a first amp goes. As far as volume I just can't see what the hell Fred is talking about when he says it ain't got none. I play in a band and practice regularly with a half stack reved up. I can hear this 15 watt amp fine in the house and I keep volume at about 9-9:30 on the clock. Plenty of volume on tap. I just don't get the volume complaints. If this had reverb I would give it a 10 but that is me. My daughter doesn't know the difference right now. Now I am giving this high score for what we are using it for. If you are using it for more, than get an amp suited for that.

It will be fine used as a beginners/ practice amp. No experience with roland amps but their pedals are solid.

I have lots of gear but my practice amp for inside the house is a Tech 21 power engine 60. I put my stomp boxes in front for different pre amps and effects. Perfect for me. The Roland cube is plenty loud enough to play along with me and disturb the rest of the house too. Plenty of volume. Clean is fine and I really like the built in gain stages. Pretty trick for a beginners amp. Don't ask for more than it is meant to do though. If you do you might be mentally challenged.

Nice features for a cheap amp. I think the effects sound cheesy but whatever. Money spent is sound quality in my book. Learn your lessons the hard way. Buy cheap=sound cheap

Sound is weak. Everyone said buy 15 watts for indoor use. Malarky. This thing sounds like a baby weeping compared to my Marshall AVT.
Buy a tube amp or a tube preamp solid state. This thing is weak even if you live in 5ft. by 3ft. basement.

Do us all a favor and buy something with tubes. Even if you are a beginner. These solid state amps under 50 watts are quieter than my Washburn acoustic strummed with a .46 gauge pick...

18 watts consumption with a conservative rating of 15 watts output, 2 channels with 4 effects that are boss pedals; ds-1, sd-1, mt-2 and metal zone, i believe. very loud for 15 watts and clear as a bell through the 8-inch cloth speaker. a 3-way equalizer setup and separate volumes and a gain for the lead channel. input for play-along and a headphone/recording output jack. great for home, practice or studio applications.

i am playing a 1969 nicely-aged, white fender stratocaster with a maple fretboard and a u-neck(t-nice) and a black, 1980's, japanese strat/les paul with 2 humbuckers, vintage strat style tremelo, 3-way switch, 2 volume and one tone... made by arbor, named the 'shark' it was designed by some hairband guitarist from one of those useless 80's bands like poison, or something... but he signed off on a killer guitar... anyways, both my guitars sounds great through this amp. the clean sounds clear all the way up to 10, where it breaks just slightly. for 90$? a deal.
i am running a guyatone mc-3 into this on the clean and lead channels and it works great with both. usually, i have to put my mc-3 in front of the distortion, but it sounds fine going in behind the lead channel effects. i am also running an ibanez tubescreamer 7 in both and this sounds great, as well. you can tweek both distortions against eachother for even more tones.

this little thing is a brick.

i've been playing for 5 years. if it were stolen, i would buy another one. i can't say enough about what a good buy this is. if you were to buy all four boss pedals, separately you would pay twice as much as this amp costs. you'd have to be stupid not to pick one of these up while they are still on zzounds and musiciansfriend for that price.

after about a month stressing about a new practice amp i decided on the cube-15, i have tested many amps, marshall, peavy, kustom but nothing compared to this at this price.

now, the amp i was using was a vantage vg15 and i thought it was alright, i use a digi effects processor so i should basically only need a speaker and volume right, how wrong was i, the body of the sound from the cube is amazing..

features wise it has 2 channels, clean and dirty with 4 distortion types, line in, headphone and recording out and equaliser....

i did want the cube-30 but my budget was up to #100 and the 30 was too much, but it turns out all im going to miss from the 2 is the reverb which isnt on the 15 but a few twiddles with the effects processor and im sorted, would have been nice to reverb from the amp though..

i have 3 epiphones, sheraton, les paul 100 and an old strat i picked up 2nd hand, i think its an s300 series from the 90's, my style is everything, i just like to play, darkness, hole, nora jones, ride, james, the cure..

im using it at home and it just sounds superb, finger picking sheryl crow on the clean channel is superb, i cant believe its only 15 watt, whatever roland have done they have done it well..

when you switch to dirty it goes to amaze mode cos your amazed how a little practice amp can produce such sounds, metal stack just blows you away and after i put ashs burn baby burn backing cd on(which ive fed through the roland in the aux input)and played along i realised this amp is going to do everything i want...

the amp is always in control and never loses sight to its job..brilliant

it seems a superb amp for at home, backstage, maybe jamming away at family bbqs/weddings etc.. i would have gone for the cube 30 if id have had the money but id have realised that the 30 has i little to much for what i need, yes id have liked reverb but nothing major..

anyone considering this amp dont let the measly sounding 15 watt fool you, this is a meaty amp, with an excellent sound throughout, whether its turned up to 1 or to 5(halfway, which is the loudest ill ever need it, i dare not take it any further) this amp satisfies my every musical need...

Bought used for $75 including shipping from ebay. Like new condition, looks less than a year old. CD/AUX in, three tone settings for clean, separate gain and volume for each of the four distortion settings. No speaker out (pity, but could be added), headphone/out jack. I use it at home for practice only. It has more than enough volume and has a nice beefy sound. IT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A SMALL WHIMPY AMP AT ALL - SOUNDS BIG.

I've used an Epiphione Les Paul standard and a DeArmond 77-T (has two single coils) Both sound great on it, very different from each other. The four distortion sounds, Overdrive, Distortion, Metal, and Metal Stack, are progressively more dirty and distorted but even the metal stack is not too noisy or out of control or too loud; nothing is too brutal, and for us older folks (>40) this is more tasteful than the megadeath/insane stuff. The Overdrive is my favorite, it's subtle, great for Blues/Chuck Berry, etc. It doesn't even sound too distorted at low volumes, it's a true overdrive. None of the sounds break up with volume though you have to turn the volume up to truly hear differences between the two lower distorion sounds. The clean channel is great for jazz.

I've owned plenty of Roland/Boss stuff and rarely had any problems unless after >>10 years of abuse. This is a solid looking piece of equipment.

I've been playin as a hobby for 32 years. I'm a fan of epiphones and I have a Sheraton, an LP std, an Ovation applause AE28, a Dearmond 77-T, and an older ovation. I used to play jazz/Django Reinhardt/Brazilian, etc, now I'm more into Led Zeppelin, SRV, and other classic rock/blues stuff. I have several multi-effects processors, the best one being a BOSS GT-3 which is why it doesn't bother me that this amp doesn't have delay/chorus and the like. I think this Cube 15 is the ideal size for someone to play at home or in the garage. It's light enough to carry around without giving you shoulder arthritis, yet definitely not a toy feel to it. No dislikes. If it were stolen I'd buy another one, they go for $99 new now, a steal. I also have a line 6 Spider 112 which on the surface looks more substantial and cost me much more ($225 used w/pedal) but I like the sound of the cube better even though specs say otherwise. The effects are also more professional sounding, I hate the effects on the line 6 and I think most people would unless you are heavly into trash metal sort of thing.

I bought this amp in March 2004. It has a switchable lead and clean channels. Headphones out that doubles as a line out. Aux in for running a CD or some other device through to play with. It has four different distortion settings, overdrive, distortion, metal and metal stack. It has Bass, Mid and Treble controls for the two channels.

I use a 76 Gibson Les Paul Custom and a 2003 Fender American Fat Strat HSS Texas Special. My main Amp is a Mesa Boogie Mark II that I have since it was new in 1979. I needed something I could mess around with in the bedroom and in my recording studio. The boogie weighs 65lbs and I am getting to old to drag this around all the time. I like to play 80's heavy metal and blues like SRV. I call it shredding blues. I have been playing for 25 years.

The two metals settings I would give a 10++ for the money. The clean channel is average for a $99.00 amp. I would pay extra if they would make a model with reverb and a delay. But, I hooked my Pandora PX-3 into it for the special effects. The combination of the two, sounds SOOOO GOOOD!!. Leads sing! The metal stack setting has lots of low end crunch. The regular metal setting has a sound with less low end and more mid for more of a classic metal sound. It only limited by the 8" speaker it has. It has separate bass, mid and treble controls, which is unusual in this price range. You generally get a tone knob. I patched it into a PA and got a very full big amp sound. The headphones out does a good job of emulating the sound. Through a mixer you can lay tracks with it. The distortion is smooth and not bright and harsh.

I did alot of research into buying this amp and tested other practice amps. I bought a Create GFX-15 a while back and the distortion is lousy. It was between a Marshall MG-15 or this one. I didn't even consider this one until I read reviews on it. Then I had to try it. I feel real good that I bought the right one. The combination of features and sound is the best. The only reason I did not give the entire amp a 10 is the clean channel is average. If your not much of a clean player this is the practice amp for you!! The Marshall is good but the Roland sounds more like a larger amp.

If this was stolen I would be sadden by it and go out and buy another one. I might even buy a cube 30 so I could gig with it. For a $99.00 price tag you can't find a amp to do anymore that this one does. Roland, build a version with effects and let more people know about this! This little amp has the potential to become a classic among pratice amps on ebay in the future. Like the Marshall 3005 mini stack.

Clean is mediocre, nothing special, but does it's job. The lead channel is very nice. "Metal Stack" is my personal favorite because it does a great job getting those bone crunching rhythm pieces and screaming leads both at the same time. The other lead modes are wimpy and all don't seem to sound right in my opinion, but thats not why I bought this. For the money, it's good.

I say 6 because it keeps crackling and "farting" all the time. It isn't clipping or my cables or the pots. Some connection I think. I've heard stories of Musician's Friend giving people used items (as a matter of fact, I've gotten a bass from them once with a huge ding on the top and finger prints on it). I think the fault lays in them since I've had no trouble with Roland or Boss.

I really enjoy this amp as a practice amp. The distortion kills my AVT50. If this got busted really bad, I probably wouldn't get another practice amp. If I had another chance to choose, I'd get a Drive (those things are f**king sweet for cheap amps!) I really wish it had a footswitch jack and that it didnt crackle.

I've been playing with guitars for 10+years. Just over a year ago I learned how to play chords. I only a 1969 Pan Trini Lopez replica.

Before I choose the roland I looked at the Peveay Rage, Its nice but its a plain jane amp good for a kid but a real player.

this is a brand new cube 15 by roland. I was in the geetar store playen different amps. i wanted a small amp that sounded good. i tried many including the cube 15. i thot it sounded purty good at the store, plus i was attracted to the CLOSED BACK on the amp. I think CLOSED BACKS reeeely add to a small amp, thus thats the main reason of buying. this amp has a lot of features, but no effects.

I'm basically a strat man or a P-90 guy. i love p-90 pickups, thus i have a EB Musicman and a PRS custom 22. When ever i try a amp at after buying, i always jam to a blues backing track. I was kinda turned off that this amp didn't have REVERB, but i have enough effect toys to add to the amp. I have to have reverb !! i'm a reverb man. but, man this amp was only $100. so, i plugged my KORG PANDORA into it, to add some reverb and delay only. It really added to this amp and made the clean channel sound extremely good. I also played the OD channels, and customed the KORG to each. I got some very good tones out of this amp. I was extremely impressed with the CLEAN channel. This is a VERY solid amp, no buzz's at all as you crank it. I thot it was interesting, you really have to back off on the BASS to get a great tone. probably because the back is closed. this is a very versatile amp, does blues and JAZZ perfectly. Best sounding little amp ever tried. I had a tech 21 trademark 10, which i like. It has some very good overdrives, but never thot the clean was that great.
But, it is a great amp, but TOOOO MUCH $$$$$$$. I thot the cube 15 was better on the clean channel, but not as good on the OD channels.
But, the OD's on the cube are still very good, especially the metal one. man, cranks it and you love'n the POWER CHORDS of AC/DC
actually i thot all the OD on the cube were good, which is not the case with the TECH 21. i only like one of the OD's on the tech.

I've had so many AMPS, very expensive amps. But, i woood say for a practice amp you can't go wrong. This amp gets ppretty lound and has a great tone thats not too different than bigger ones. Adding reverd for my taste really made me love this amp.

Made in 2003, this is a fine amp. I needed a new practice amp because I gave my other one (a hoorible SAMICK) to my little brother. I only had a ZOOM606 which I could use for headphone practice, but it sounded like shit through headphones. So I was off for a new amp.

I could afford the Cube30, which is, I think, slightly better for its money than the Cube15, but since I hardly ever use effects and I just wanted something simple with a few good basic sounds, I settled for this little Cube. Versatile enough for a practice amp, also the CD input and line/phones output (although it mutes the speaker) is a nice addition. Need nothing more from a practice amp, maybe reverb would have been nice, but that's Cube30 territory.

It's got all I need: a good clean channel and 4 types of distortion. The distortions are (I think) models of BOSS stomp boxes. If I am not mistaken these are: OD1, DS1, DS2 and MT2 MetalZone. Though I think the lower gain models lack a bit of sustain for solos, the metal/stack models have more than enough. I actually like the Metal (DS2) and Overdrive channel the most. The Metal Stack is good for riffing but sounds a little eerie for leads.

Clean channel is very well balanced for Humbuckers and Singles. I play a Cort Mirage M520 (great guitar) which has 2 humbuckers with Coil Tap on both pickups so I get a nice variety of sounds on this clean channel.

It can get pretty loud, but the sound gets worse (nasal) which requires a little work on the EQ I think. Clean channel breaks up at about 5 depending on the power of your pickups, which is nice... but not if you want clean sounds at high volume levels. I mainly use it at moderately low volumes and it does well what it's supposed to do.

Knobs are very solid, the metal grill is a nice feature. Never had any problems.... yet.

This is a nice amp if you just want to play, without any unnecessary features I'd never use anyway. A reverb would have been nice but at 119 Euros what more can you expect?

For the size of this amp, it has many features. The amp has 4 distortions ranging from overdrive ot metal Stack and it has a very plain clean channel. Controlling it all is a 3 band eq. The effects, made by boss are top notch, however, the metal zone isn't nearly as sharp as the Metal Zone padal made by the same company. The only thing that kept me from giving this a 10 is the lack of a reverb effect. Other than that, this amp sounds very good for its small size.

I have a Standard Mexi Strat with single coils, and the sound that this amp gives out is ssimply amazing. Though it is not super loud, at "3" the sound is loud enough to overpower every other sound in my room, at "5" it is fairly loud, not ear-splitting, but good enough to make Hendrix-like feedbacks. I haven't ever try louder. This amp sounds awsome for its size. I actually prefer it over the Peavy Bandit. THe only bad thing is that bouton to swich for clean to lead is really close to the volume for the clean, so if you toggle it with your toe, it tends to turn off the volume of the clean channel.

I've had it for 8 months now and it has never failed me. I would probably take it with me if I was perfoming at a bar or buskering.

Overall, this is a brilliant amp to start off with or even as a second amp to bring with you if you go jam at a friend's house. I wound have liked a foot pedal to switch for clean to lead, but for the price, it is a great value.

This Amp is brill!!!! I play metal and rock and the four distorts on it suit me to a tee. The clean channel sounds great for riffs etc too! the only thing i could possibly fault is the fact there is no foot swith between the channels but the other features make up for it.

I play Les Paul and the sounds i get off it are amazing. I even run it throught my big amp at gigs to use the effects off it cos i is a bit tight at the moment and can't afford an effects pedal. it sound like a well rounded pedal. in fact i had someone come up to me at a gig and ask me what pedal i was using!!!

I use a big bugger of an oldd amp as my primary but when it broke down on me at a gig i used the cube as my primary and it worked without a hitch!! need i say more!!

I think this is a 2002 model.... Good for anything due to the diff. types of distortion you can dial in. The dist. is great for anything from blues to hardcore (i.e At the Drive In , Cursive). It has 2 channels [clean and drive],a headphone jack /recording out and an auxilliary input. I wish it would come with a footswitch, and the only features I never use are the headphone and ext. outs. This is my bedroom practice amp, and it also holds its own fairly well with a band. But for gigging, it probably would not be enough without being miked. [Solid state, 1x8 15 watts]

I use this amp with a vision [anyone know that brand?] guitar loaded with 2 humbuckers. It gives a little noise, but it probably is due to my guitar, not the amp. My style ranges very widely [from jazz to hardcore] and this amp fits the bill nicely in all cases. The clean is very dimensional with distortion occuring at about 12 o'clock. I love the options it gives me for distortion. I most frequently use the Metal setting [with my wah] to get some awesome feedback, and the Metal stack it very compact and great for riffing [these 2 settings have HARD distortion]. I found the lower distortion settings a bit muddy at times, though fiddling with the eq worked wonders on that problem. It would be hard to find a style that this amp would not fit

Very dependable, would definetly use without a backup. It has never given me any problems.

I love this amp. My only issue is the fact that it is unsuitable for gigging. I would use it for recording, though and I would be very wary of parting with it any time soon. This is the best 99 dollar amp ever! no bones about it. Now just throw in a footswitch option and more power and youve got an amazing thing!

2003. Plenty versatile. 2 channels with 4 awesome effects (already listed by others. This amp has plenty of power. Have already cheesed off the neighbours without going above 5 or 6 on the volume.

USe it to play an Epi LP 100. I play Blues and Classic Rock and it's perfect with a Reverb and Chorus pedal. Distortion is great. I lose harmoniccs on the 5th and 6th string when distorted but it's a pickup problem. Can't wait to try it with single coils.

It' a closed back Amp and I think that makes it a little more solid. Don't have to woory about dust and stuff getting inside as much. I think it adds to the bess response as well.

Haven't had to deal with them.

Love it. Afriend tried it out and is going to check out the Cube30 and Jazz models. Like me, he didn't know that Roland made guitar amps. These guys should advertise the fact a little more. They make awesome keyboards and keyboard amps along with great effect boxes and pedals so they should know what they are doing with amps. Normally I would be hesitant to buy an amp with built in multiple effects as their effects usually go unused once you get pedals and boxes but gambled due to Rolands experience with sound. It paid off. If this one disappeared I would probably upgrade to Cube30 at this point. (If I could convince my wife to let me spend that much.)

2003 model. A practice amp with 15 watts and an 8" speaker shouldn't sound this good: remarkable.

There are four effects built-in: overdrive / distortion / metal / metal stack: they sound fine to me but I haven't got much experience with effects.

Approximately 8' cord: Roland scores more points for supplying this nice touch. Cord is wrapped around two protruding hooks on rear of cabinet for storage.

I use a Parker NiteFly: two humbuckers. Great guitar, BTW.

Quiet enough. Clean channel is sweet to my ears but gain does not affect it. Probably not adequate for gigging but not designed to be; still PLENTY loud with no rattles (except the house).

Four effects built-in: overdrive / distortion / metal / metal stack provide great versatility. I'm not an effects expert but they sound good to my ears. I even like the metal settings and I'm not much into that sound.

I remain convinced that closed back amps provide the best sound due to the improved bass response.

This amp has two bass reflex ports under the speaker: Roland is smart enough to engineer their bass sound instead of ignoring it like most manufacturers.

Too early to say: seems very well built. Quite solid and finishing touches are nice, as with all Roland amps I've used.

I'm confident reliability will be at least average and probably above, which means it'll outlast me.

Only played for a couple of years. My other amp is a Marshall AVT50: another closed back amp that rattles the house.

This amp is good enough to have a footswitch even if adds a bit to the price: I can see people playing this in a church or coffeehouse setting.

While looking for a practice amp I evaluted a Fender Frontman 15R, a Roland BluesCube, an Ashdown 1508, a Crate GFX15, a Fender Blues Jr. and a Marshall (can't recall the model).

The Cube 15 is the amp I'll keep, and I'd replace it in a minute. I hope Roland makes a Cube 60 or so with a closed back.

New 2003, great clean/overdrive channel. Real heavy Distortion if you need it, headphone jack and aux input is nice for practice situations. Gets quite loud for such a small package. Doesn't really need anything but a touch of delay for me, reverb would be nice, but you can't expect decent reverb in something in this price range.

I use a Tele and Strat with this amp, sounds really great with my PB& J delay set for slapback. The clean is a very nice clean, the overdrives and distortions can get quite nasty! Overall very pleased with the sounds this 99us amp can generate.

I've had this amp for 2 months now, if you need a great sounding small amp to practice or warm up with this is a great deal. I use it out back on the deck and it's perfect, I just add a little delay and whalla! The heaphone jack is nice late at night, and the aux. in is great for learning new tracks. I picked this one for it's sound/features over the Marshalls/Vox's etc. that were available to try out. For the price of a decent stomp box you can't go wrong with this amp.

Well, I have recently bought this little big amp, and am quite happy with the purchase!I like to play Grundge, Nu Metal, stuff like that so I require a little amp for practicing at home, that still manages to sound like I was playing loud when I'm actually playing it low!This amp features an execelent clean sound, and has 4 different kind of distortion effects wich I found quite usefull, since other amps with 15 wats are more expensive and their distortion effects are kind of lame :\ It is a bit heavier than other 15 amps!The controls are on top instead of in the front wich is quite usefull :) Plus it supports footswitch and all the regular output exits! All it needs to be perfect is a Delay effect... but hey can't have it all right ;)

I play an Ibanez GRX70!A guitar made to be played heavily...So I required an amp with strong sound!The 4 distortions come in usefull and the effects sound good!Although it is a 15 wat amp, it can reach quite high volumes and still mantain quality...If you're looking for an Amp to play at home and that has the power to play high when you get the chance, then this is the one for you! :) And besides, 2 of the distortions are quite similar to some effects used by Deftones and Bush...That might be of interest to some ;)

What I love about this amp, is that even though it's only 15 wats, it manages to be the best I've played so far!I've played with a 15 wats Park by Marshall with reverb, a 15 Wats Sun Up (Fender Imitation I guess) and a 20 wats Fender(hated this one... when playing lowd, the sound was filled with noise in CLEAN MODE :| ) So far this is the only one I bought, and I have to say that I'm happier with it than I would be with one of the others :)

Standard practice amp with three levels of distortion/overdrive that are manipulated by a gain and volume switch. It's a practice amp.

I practice on a 1970s Fender Strat with stock picups and 1984 Kramer with humbuckers. With the overdrive turned down you get a good clean full jazzy sound. When cranked up gain is used it produces a good dirty Texas blues sound. And the distortion/metal works good on all volumes.

The cube is solid, light, has a strong metal grill cover, and covered back with bass ducts.

Ive read that these four sounds are produced through the circuits of 4 different boss effects pedals. Its got a 3 level eq, aux. input, recording out. Thats about it for the features, oh.. it has a handle too.

How brutal is the distortion? Well it can get loud and when the gain is twisted up it gets me playing power chords for the sake of playing power chords. I live in an apartment so a lot of the time I turn the volume down, but like any amp it sounds best in its higher volume range. I mostly play acoustic, this is the first amp I have purchased, so I cant compare it to another that I have owned. However, I have played electrics before, and used practice amps like the cube, and it sounds better than most. I play a variety of songs on the cube, stuff by weezer, pink floyd, pearl jam, h2o, zeppelin and the cube holds its own. At low levels the 4 lead sounds are similar, at higher volumes they each have their own unique sound. Metal stack has the heavy metal growl, Metal gives good sustain, Distortion is less fuzzy than Metal, and Overdrive produces good blues tones

the amp looks and feels solid. I tried out a lot of practice amps before I chose the cube, it felt the most solid compared to mini fenders and crates.

The warranty is for 3 years, for repair you are required to take it to an authorized service center.

If you are in the market for a practice 15 watt amp, I recommend the cube 15. I played a lot of amps and narrowed it down to the cube or a marshall 15 with digital effects. I might have gone with the marshall if it werent 60 bucks more. The marshall's sound is different from the cube but I had no clear favorite soundwise. The attraction to the marshall is the reverb, delay, and such. The cube doesnt have reverb. Reverb would make it better, however for the 95 dollar price roland did a great job for the working man. Roland also makes another cube, the cube 30 with all kinds of effects and cosm, for more than twice the price of the 15. Ive played acoustic for about 2 years, and playing on my cube ups my appreciation for the electric guitar.

Brand new, 2002/3 I guess. Bought for home practice and begging in the metro. Something I don't mind bashing around a bit.

2 channels: clean and dirty (you can choose from in-built distortions, overdrive, distortion, metal and metal stack) wide range of sounds. Bass, mid, treble. Seperate volumes for each channel.

Headphones and CD input (so you can play along with the stars). No reverb (reverbs on amps at this price always sound terrible anyway).

The clean sound is great. That's what this amp is all about. Good range and clear tone/depth. From jazz to funk right on into cuntry... this Cube's got it nailed.

Surprise, surprise, the dirty channel is less great... pretty much zero sustain, not convincing and shrill overtones. Hums worse than a Boyz 2 Men number. But hey, at this price who's moaning... it kicks Marshall and Peavey's ass.

I use it with a Fender Strat (bridge HB) and on the clean channel it sounds fantastic (especially when its ME playing).

With the exception of the overdrive setting (and maybe the metal) the distortions aren't useful for anything other than annoying the girlfriend... come to think about it - they're fooking canny like!

Built like a rock. No rattle or other problems for now. Roland/Boss products are known for being as tough as an advanced mathematical conundrum and this is no exception. I mean... they're practically giving these things away!!!

Even when you turn it up loud (and trust me, this thing will hurt you in a confined space) there's none of the shake rattle and roll I got from Marshall/Peavey practice amps in the past.

Great amp. The best little practice amp I've owned or tried out.

Yeah, so the built in overdrive channel isn't exactly fabulous but its more than made up for by the clean. If you want to get down and dirty on this sucka just plug in a decent overdrive pedal (tube screamer or a BOSS DS-1) on the clean channel with a reverb/delay effect and it sounds BIG. REALLY.

I'll give it a 9 overall since any less would be stupid and greedy and any more would be bullshit (nothing in this life is perfect, apart from Kinman pickups and the blessed virgin Mary).

I'd be quite surprised if anybody WOULD steal this... but you never know with very young kids these days. Obviously I'd be rather angry and would buy another one since its the best practice amp on the market in its price range.

I don't think I'll bother insuring it though.
