mine's probably a mid eighties model...but they've never changed, good solid state amp, two channels (hi and lo on each channel). Bass, mid and treble on each channel...reverb, distortion, and chorus/vibrato on channel 2. would be cool if it had a compressor like a Lab Series L5.

cleanest amp ever!! Could be on the verge of sounding sterile...but still cool. Choous is best I've ever heard. distortion is utterly useless...but if you just want to make a kinda weird noise...it could be good for something. I play a Schecter PT, a PRS, and a Fernandes strat, all through an Ibanez Pue5 processer and a Mesa Boogie V-twin. I think that is this amps real shining. faithfully reproducing and accenting preamps. I play mainly hrder rock like Creed and Sevendust and this gets it done with ample volume and much more to spare

it's solid state...so...when it starts going bad..there's really no fixing it but I;ve never heard of any problems with these

If this broke or was stolen..I'd definately own another...would gig without backup but would never tour with it...would never tour with solid state, if something breaks you're really screwed. I picked this amp because Wes Borland from Limb Bizkit uses them, and he uses a very processed sound and I knew he was real anal about the purity of his sound. If it had a compressor like the Lab Series L5, I'd give it a ten.

The amp is circa 1989. built in chorus and vibrato, reverb, terrible distortion etc.

I'ver put every manner of pre-amp/distortion pedal through it. The problem with the distortion is the speakers. They are metal. Replace them. Takes a bit of edge off the clean, but opens up the amps versatility as a power amp. I run a pod through the line-ins in the back. 120watts! You better believe it. Loud enough for any venue short of a stadium

Unbelievable. It's been used as a bass amp, pa, keyboard amp. It's been dropped, kicked, and urinated on by a dog back in 1995. Only thing wrong is dirty pots, and thats because it's been stored in every dusty filth hole on earth. Has to have been used in close to 700 gigs by myself and others, sometimes at FULL VOLUME (cleared the room). Has never stopped working. Thanks, Roland.

Best piece of equipment I've ever bought. I used tube amps on and off, but always came back to the JC. Now put the Pod through it live. Distortion weakness is gone now. I may use it forever.

I use my jc120 with Alliance akoustic and fishman piezo. I also use my old Washburn Hawk. Both guitars sound great on this amp. In fact all the guitars i've played on this amp sounded better then ever! Yes the distortion is crappy, but when you hear that beatiful clean sound and that amazing chorus, you could't care less! For your blues solos-get a tubescreamer or realtube and youi can play any gig! I even trew out most of my effects. Just don't need them any more. Love it!

Everybody knows what this thing sounds like. I'm writing this review to comment on the amps reliability. It's #1. This amp was used by myself and 2 of my friends, also guitarists, for years. Hundreds of gigs later, the outside is beat to absolute crap. Otherwise, the amp has never failed. I would like to commend Roland on this thing. The best.

For what I bought this for I give it a 10, I wanted an amp that could run the gamet from acoustic to blues, and this amp was by far the best one I could buy, and for acoustic, it even beat about 90% of the acoustic only amps I tried, add a couple of pedals and you can get just about any sound you want out of it, I have always been a firm believer that if you want versatility, get the best sounding clean amp you can buy then add what ever pedals nessasary to get the sound you want, I also own a fender blues delux, and for blues, it is great, but no way is it an acoustic amp. And the chorus, though only having one setting, is the richest, best sounding one around, and I have tried about 10 different pedals, none are as good!

For the price I stole it, but even if it was not the great deal I got, I still would of found one, It's a very versital amp (with pedals), and as far as an acoustic amp, I would of had to spend around a $1000 to get an amp that sounded this good!

I purchased this amp last year after hearing it used on the 80's line-up of King Crimson Recordings (studio/live). This amp kills every other amp I've played through. It fits in my car nicely for travel to gigs alongside all my other devices. I use this amp in the cafe at Borders Books and Music as well as night clubs and it always delivers a sound that is pleasing to the ears, never too loud.

as I said above I purchased it last year and use it along with the other gear listed above. if it were ever lost or stolen i would definitely buy me another one. I love everything about this amp. This amp helped give the 80's line-up (Fripp/Belew) of KIng Crimson one of the most versatile and original sounds ever produced.

This amp was made in 198?, I'm not sure really...doesn't matter. It comes with two channels, a high and low input for each, and reverb, distortion, true stereo chorus, and vibrato(not tremolo) in the second channel. It has jacks for foot pedals for the previous effects mentioned, only have to set the vibrato manually, and the chorus is fixed but it doesn't matter(later on the chorus). This is one loud , clean mamajama!! 120 watts that can make you go deaf if you crank it past three!!

Now, for the sound...many owner who made a submission say the distortion sucks...well yes if you compare it to a tubescreamer or something. But I one the other hand think its useful to some capacity, really! It has a cheesy sort of 70's transistor distortion which can make some funky-junky grooves. The vibrato is interesting, it can really accent some sweet chords that you conjure up. The chorus, as mentioned earlier is fixed, which can be poopy at times, but the chorus(being true stereo) if the most fullest, lush chorus out there...way smooth. The best thing about this amp is that its clean, probebly the cleanest amp out there...thats why people really by this amp. If your into jazz, I need not explain. If your a wanker, and you want to thrash with this puppy, go play with your marshalls seriously, folks, its called Jazz-Chorus for a reason. I play mostly U2, Police, stuff like that, along with my own stuff of course, and while this may not be the most versatile amp alone(though its pretty darn good by its self!) it makes an excellent amp to run all your pedals/effects through it...I use all kinds of pedals, rack mounts, and a Line 6 POD through it and I could nail plenty of tones and timbres. Its loud enough to blow away marshalls, yeah, I said marshalls!! The thing is too loud for bedroom levels at times, but it cuts through the mix during gigs.

Read my sound review and that pretty much sums it up for me...I run strats, les pauls, telecasters, and a casino through it and it does the job, believe me it does the job. This amp isn't for everyone, but if you want a super cean amp to run your effects through, this is the best thing out there.

i think this one's about 1976-7 model.
it's had the SH*T kicked out of it, and it's great. i mean, it's got THE most gorgeous clean sound you're gonna find anywhere. two channels, low and hi gain inputs for both, one with just 3 band eq, one with distortion, reverb and stereo chorus/vibrato (all footswitchable). would be nicer if chorus and vibrato were independently footswitchable (you have to assign one to the footswitch and to switch to the other you have to go to the amp)
two 12 inch beasties make this a 2 foot monster. two separate power amps also a cool feature...
only loses out on this because it's solid state... i'm a tubey guy.

fender am standard strat is the guitar of my choice.
i mainly play funk/rock stuff, so it sounds great for skanking wah work, but trying to get a good distortion out of it without really cranking the volume is a bitch of a job. use a pedal. like maybe a tubescreamer.
this thing's got headroom for the jolly green giant. NOTHING will distort this mutha.
it's the QUEEN of clean
only loses a point or two for sh*t distortion.

I HAVE BEEN PLAYING LIVE IN A BLUES BAND WITH THIS AMP FOR 20 YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EVEN BLOWN A FUSE. POWER SOUND VERSITALITY IT'S ALL THERE, NO WONDER SO MANY PROS USE THE JC120.I USE AN OVERDRIVE PEDAL MAINLY JUST FOR LEADS. NEVER FOUND ANYTHING THAT I'VE PLUGGED INTO IT THAT DIDN'T SOUND GOOD (GUITARS THAT IS...NOT ALL EFFECTS)

I USE A STOCK EPIPHONE SHEARATON AND MANY CUSTOM GUITARS WITH HOT PICKUPS, EMGS, DIMARZIOS, CARVIN ETC. I PLAY MOSTLY BLUES CHICAGO STYLE SOME MOTOWN AND OLDER ROCK. I LOVE IT'S CLEAN CHORUS TONE IT'S NOT TOO BRIGHT LIKE A LOT OF THE FENDER SOLID STATES I'VE OWNED. THIS IS NOT REALLY A "ROCK AND ROLL" AMP IT'S A GREAT BLUES AND JAZZ AMP. THERE IS NOT A LOT OF DISTORTION IF YOU ARE INTO PANTERA OR METALICA THIS IS NOT THE AMP FOR YOU...IF YOU DIG B.B. KING OR CLEAN SOUNDING GUITAR THIS IS THE ONE. I LIKE THAT IT AN OPEN BACK SO IT ACTS LIKE A MONITOR FOR OUR DRUMMER HE NEVER COMPLAINS THAT HE CAN'T HEAR ME..

I HAVE HAD MY AMP FOR 20 ODD YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EVEN BLEW A FUSE. I BOUGHT IT NEW FOR $499 MINE HAS THE METAL JACKS. I HEARD A CAT PLAYIN' JAZZ GUITAR CHORDS ON IT WHEN I BOUGHT IT AND I DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO PLUG IN IT SOUNDED SO MUCH BETTER THAN ANY AMP I'D EVER OWNED. I WAS PLAYIN ROCK THEN A LOT OF NUGENT PRIEST ETC. THEN AND IT TOOK ME MANY YEARS OF TRIAL AND ERROR BEFORE I FOUND THE RIGHT KIND OF PEDAL TO GET A GOOD ROCK SOUND.

I'VE BEEN PLAYIN FOR OVER 20 YEARS I WOULD BUY ANOTHER JC120 IF IT EVER GOT RIPPED OFF. I USUALLY DON'T LET IT OUT OF MY SITE AND ALWAYS LOAD IT LAST WHEN I'M READY TO SPLIT FROM THE GIG...I LOVE THE SOUND I HATE THE WEIGHT BUT IT'S A LOT LIGHTER THAN A HEAD AND A CABINET I LIKE THE FACT THAT IT FITS IN THE BACK SEAT OF MY CAR... I HAVE A FENDER DUAL SHOWMAN AND A CARVIN V12 THEY JUST DON'T GET THE SAME SOUND AS THE ROLAND. THE JC120 IS THE TICKET, ALBERT COLLINS, ALBERT KING, LONNIE MACK WHAT ELSE NEEDS TO BE SAID. ANYONE WHO IS SERIOUS ABOUT A GOOD CLEAN TONE SHOULD CHECK OUT THE 120.
