I'm not sure if my silvertone is from the 50's or the 60's, but there is a # 1056 0n the original "fisher alnico speaker". Along with the # 550. The 550, lets me know the speaker manufacturer as I found this out on a website of some guy who buys vintage gear. I assumed the 1056 is the month and year it was made.Is the amp versatile enough for me ? Yes and no, its not a high gain modern amp and sometimes I stray into to hearing that sound in my head as the sound I'm going after or needing. Truth is though, its got the whole gain spectrum that I know and feel in my heart covered; and its whats in your heart that counts, things in your head come and go like the changing of the weather. So yes its versatile enough for me. It sounds so great and its what Ive been searching for to take my playing to a higher level. The response/feel and playability are inspiring. Okay, I have to tone it down a bit they said no "perfect" opinions will be posted, and I want my opinion of this amp to be known. It truly is a great amp ! It has 2 channels, mic and (2) instrument. I use an A/B box to run into both, as stated all over this site, to get more gain. I had just jumped the second instrument input into the mic input, but found it more versatile to run into them individually, obvisously. I find the amp to be more expressive through a single channel in some instances, anyway. A reverb wouldve been nice, but the tremolo is pretty cool and interesting for me as Ive never experimented with this as an effect before now. I use this amp in my home, also to record on my analog 4-track... I wont say not anything serious, because I do take my music and my playing seriously, but I'm no recording artist or even a gigging musician; I just love playing music and inspiring tone. As far as the power of this amp its all I need, but I do find myself wanting to crank it up to have the decibels justifying the tone . When I was 14 years old I played bass, ( because my buddy played guitar and the other played drums and we needed a bass player to have a "BAND" ! You know the story and bass was easy for the tunes we were beating out...). Anyway theres apoint, I had a Cort bass and a Kustom amp, but my grandpa had this mint condition small silvertone amp Ive never forgotten. It wasnt a 1482, I dont know what model it was, but it was smaller, I guess an 8" speaker. I use to play my bass through this amp mostly late at night for its low volume and I loved that amp and into my adulthood when I began playing guitar Ive been missing that warmth and feel until I found my 1482.

I play a mexican-made standard strat that I put a mexican-made 50's V-neck on and to my suprise it brightened the tone alot compared to the standard neck. They were both maple fingerboards so Im not sure why one would be so much bright than the other, but I like it. Also I have a Westone with an aftermarket vintage humbucker in the bridge. I like the westone pretty good, its just a cheap used guitar I picked up to have a hummer when I'm feeling real heavy in my head, and found out that I actually like it clean as well as metallic. This amp suits the style I really want to play and doesnt allow me to slip into overly saturated wanking which I dont consider real guitar playing at this stage in my life anyway. You know what I mean... with this amp every note counts, every note has feeling into it and gives you a great feeling back and with the AVT 50 I traded for it that wasnt the case at all.

I'm certain this amp is reliable, as it is all original with the exception of new electro-harmonix power tubes and ... well its everything Ive been saying it is. Unlike so many of the reviews Ive read on here my 1482 isnt noisy at any volume except for the minute hum/buzz due to the grounding which cant be heard at all unless you let all the way off the strings. Actually I even noticed my strat being considerably quieter in positions 1,3 & 5 than it is with any other amps Ive ever used. My baffle board is also stiff and the speaker is mounted to it tightly, so I wont be replacing it with wood until and if it becomes an issue; I dont want to alter the tone in anyway. Mechanically the amp is excellent, however the outer box is scuffed and torn quite a bit, go figure. I quess thats why it sat at the store where I traded for it so long; gotta look past the cover sometimes. Lucky me!

My gear: mexican strat, westone w/bridge hb, aria pro bass, fender pro jr., fender 25B amp, kustom tube 12, cry baby wah, seymour duncan p.u. booster, morley A/B box, george l's and planet waves cables, korg gt-3 tuner, hohner harmonica, yamaha dd-50 drum machine, tascam 4-track...AND OF COURSE MY SILVERTONE MODEL 1482
" All B.S. aside this amp will have you making all those weird faces for real while your playing and reaching for that note you never reached for... just like any other great amp, but youll have to spend way more than $600.00 to get a great amp outside of a silvertone, because my AVT wasnt even "kinda" close. Neither is my pro jr. or the classic 30 I use to have ( although the classic 30 is a really good amp, Id like to still have it, but its not a great amp).Anyway, Im not trying to sell my silvertone or any thing so FINALLY Im finished with my opinion and my life story. Thank you for your time and interest in my opinion.
