all-tube amp hand-wired in UK. If I am correct, these amps were wired by Hiwatt amp builders, and in fact this amp has Hiwatt quality all over it. Very high quality components!

Sound Quality : 10
very thick clean sound, turn it up and it will give an excellent overdrive, sounds like The Who or Eric Clapton ,with a strat or a les paul

Reliability : 10
these amps were built with far higher standards than most new amps

Customer Support : No Opinion

Overall Rating : 10
I own old Marshall and Fender amps. This Sound City is one of my favourite amps, bar none!

This is a 68 model 100 watt, mark 3 head with an original 4-12 speaker cabinet, loaded with Fane speakers.I would have to compare it to an early Hiwatt in terms of looks, construction and sound. It,s not that versatile but belts out rock and roll like nothing else. This is the second reveiw I,ve posted on 100 watt SC heads but like old guitars,no two are the same.An effects loop would be handy but I,m used to not having them on any of my amps so it,s no big deal.A correction I need to make on the other 100 watt head I reveiwed is that they both have 4,not 6 el34 power tubes It has power to spare and I use a Marshall powerbrake to control the volume.

Sound Quality : 10
I tend to use guitars with humbuckers to get more natural tube overdrive but thats not to say that my teles and strats don,t sound good either.I do use an overdrive stomp box with my single coil guitars but don,t need it for the humbuckers.Clean sounds can be obtained by simply rolling back the volume on the guitar. This amps has wonderful dynamics and is quite sensitive to string attack. The natural tube distortion is to die for.I have yet to own, play,or even hear any amp,be it vintage or new, that has a better tone than my vintage Sound City amps.

Reliability : 10
My experience with Sound City amps has been good in terms of reliability.Gigging would be no problem.

The company is no longer in business but I know lots of amp techs so service is,nt a problem. From wwhat I,ve gathered, these amps are easy to maintain.I imagine the Partridge transformers might be a bit difficult to find but there are some companies making excellent replacement transformers.

Overall Rating : 10
I,ve been playing for over 20 years and have gone through tons of gear.I currently own 5 Sound City heads and 2 SC cabs.I own a Marshall JCM 800 half stack,a Musicman 65 watt half stack and a Peavy 50 watt 4-10 combo. This is my second 100 watt head so unles both were stolen I,m cool.I only bought this one because they are so hard to find.I truly love these amps mainly because they are still affordable and sound great.Every time I see some old Marshall sell for $2500,I can,t help but grin. These amps are British tube tone at it,s finest. Some of the players include,Moody Blues Hendrix,Pink Floyd,Cheap Trick,The Who,The Kinks ETC.A vintage 100 watt head with the original, matching 4-12 cab for less than a grand is pretty darn cool in my book.

This amp was made in 1969.It is a non-master,4 input head.I jump the channels for tweaking the tone a bit. It,s a very basic head with no effects loop, channel switching or headphone jack.It has 6 el 34 tubes and is as loud as you would expect from a 100 watt British amp.I would put it up against the finest vintage marshall. It sounds amazing.

Sound Quality : 10
I,ve been playing a Dean cadillac and an old flying V through it and it has crunch to spare. It suits my playing style just fine.I crank everything on 10 except bass and use a marshall power brake to control the volume. The distortion is tight and punchy.I use the old"hillbilly" channel switching method.

Reliability : 9
I,ve never had any problems as far as repairs go.I would gig with it for sure

Sound City went out of business several years ago but I,ve heard these amps are simple to service.

Overall Rating : 10
I,ve been playing for 22 years and own 2 other sound city amp heads.I currently own around 8 guitars but this is changing constantly.I would certainly buy this amp again if it were lost but the 100 watt heads are almost immposible to find.I,ve own plenty of marshall, fenderand Hiwatt amp and this amp sound as good as any amp I,ve ever owned.
