As with most cabs this is a bit of a bone-head question but i can say the following:
My 4x12 is an early 70's model and has no casters (wheels) the handles are horrid and square which hurt your hands whilst carrying - I have wrapped tape around them which helps and stops unwanted vibrations whilst playing.
The box construction is a solid Pine, so I'm told, and houses the 4, 12 inch 40 watt Thane speakers.
The front cover is cotton weaved with silver - a nice touch but over the years has ripped and to my knowledge it is irreplaceable.

I love the the sound of this Cabinet. I have tried it with many different amps (including: jmp,jcm800,5150,xxx,laney-vh100,triple rectifier to name a few!) and every time have enjoyed the tone created.
The bottom end is huge and shows off the natural contour of the amp well.
Recently a tear has occoured one of the speakers giving ths cab an extra dimension of growl within the mid range.
(i have a replacemrnt speaker from the same year I'll fit it and see what sounds best.)
The top on this cab is damp rather than dull - very good for blues/stoner/classic rock but this can be modernised with a touch more treble and pressence.
As this Cabinet is rated at 160 watts you can drive the speakers and get them to distort earlier than most modern 4x12's
I would like to give an 8.5 as i dont think its worthy of a 9

This cab has had a few owners before me (the last wanting rid of it because he had no space in his new house!) and after 30+ years of touring and abuse it has only recieved a rip to the fabric cover and one small tear to a cone.
would be 10 if came with a metal grill

Taking into consideration that i got this vinatge cabinet for less than a days wages and sounds as great as it does i will give it a 10/10
The fact is the newer Sound city cabinets from Arbiter suck in comparison to this relic.
If this cabinet was broken beyond repair or stolen I would cry - simple as that.

This is a later 70s Sound City 4x12 loaded with 40w Fane speakers. I'm not sure how you can rate this catagory higher than one - the 'features' are limited to wheels and one input jack. The cab is rated at 15 ohms but you can use it with 16 ohm stuff no worries.

I use this with an 01 Gibson SG or 77 Les Paul, running into a Marshall JMP 2203 also from 1977. It has fat bass response and isn't too bright. The speakers are punchy and dynamic and distort just a touch when pushed. In short; great tone.

It's been knocking round for nearly 30 years, I don't see it dying soon. The guy who owned it before managed to slit one of the speakers but a little glue fixed that, now that speaker has a kind of raspy growl to it that sits well in a full band mix.

Sound City (owned by Dallas Arbiter) are long gone. Don't expect anything, hop along to the forums at www.plexipalace.com instead. They have a sound city forum.
