Mine's made in 1972 by Dallas Arbiter in London. As everyone knows its a single-channel (LOUD) amp. Dave Reeves worked with these before he went on to make Hiwatts. This model also has send/return jacks on the back panel, for use with reverb or FX.

I've gigged twice with this amp and haven't even taken it above 1/4 of the volume. It has Lots and Lots of power. And its so loud.

Came with Mullard Preamp tubes but Cheap 6550's :(

Sound Quality : 10
Using a Fender Strat with stock pickups and electronics, it sounds gorgeous, real creamy sound. Eric Clapton blues style.

Also tried it with a friends SG and it is exactly like The Who, Magic Bus. It doesn't distort unless you really crank it.

It's 30-years old with Original Caps, it hums and hisses a bit and the pots occasionally crackle. But like i said, its older then me (by 22-years). It is built like a tank, like all Sound City's and Hiwatt's!! When the handle broke, i was lifting it out of my car, it fell 5feet onto concrete, via the bumper (fender) on the car, the car came off worse, and the amp still worked!!!

Matamp or Hiwatt UK are the closest you'll get to someone you can trust messing with this beauty.

For the price I paid, and i saw it sitting at the back of my local music shop, it is the greatest, loudest and best sounding amp i have ever heard, played or owned. It's level with a Hiwatt but a fraction of the price. It suits my musical style perfectly (The Who, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Jimi) and if it were stolen I'd collect the insurance money and hunt the globe for another one. They're getting more difficult to find as more people get wise to them!!

This amp was built in 1968, and has features very similar to a Hiwatt. I normally don't look for Sound city amps, but this caught my eye. It has a tube comliment of 4 KT-88's, and a preamp section of 3 12AX7's and 1 12AT7. The transformers are all made by "Partridge." It has your standard 4 inputs; 2 for normal, and 2 for brilliant. Also it has standard Fender Bassman controls ( Vol., Bass., Treb., mid., Pres.) What is so unique about this amp is the inside has 4 adjustable pots for both pre and post volume gain. The amp says "Mark 3 Custom Built" on the front.

Sound Quality : 10
I used to own a 1972 "Hiwatt Dr-103," but couldn't get the Pete Townsend sound out of it. This amp sounds just like Pete at Woodstock no matter what guitar you play through. I think this amp is one of the most incredible sounding amps I've ever heard. It has a Bell like tone that I've been waiting years to find. I play a 67' SG Custom 3 pickup, and use a Colorsound Overdriver through it for leads. The gain pots are factory set for an incredible amount of overdrive and gain. When you turn the presence up, it will make the same screeching sound as you here with Townsend playing "Sparks" at Woodstock. When turned up,the amp's power will knock you out of your seat with you loving every minute.

Sound city amps are very similar to the Hiwatt, and therfore are very roadworthy; however, tubes for this amp (British KT-88s) are nearly impossible to find. If those tubes go your nearest replacemet would be 6550's, but keep in mind that this amp draws 750 volts on the plates.

The closest support you will find is from the current makers of Hiwatt.

Overall Rating : 10
This amp is a Britsh dream. If your looking for that over the top overdriven British sound, this amp will deliver. I don't think they made too many of these amps however; it seems that Sound City may have custom built these amps by order. I'll buy as many of these amps that I can find, but I've also been told that the later Sound City amps wouldn't come near the sound of mine, due to the early nature of my amp.
