1999 model. one channel with presence, bass mid, treble and master and volume. 2 inputs. hi and low gain. i've had it for amonth and haven't used the lo input(why?). i play rock and hard rock and this is perfect. line out and speakerouts on the back. all tube with factory tubes and killer eminence original speaker. iuse it in tandem with my mig 100h half stack eq'd slightly different to spread the sound around. live i'll probably use it as a miked monitor. i hate the usual monitor sound. plenty of power. no issues there.

semi clean crunch to way overdriven. play with the eq and master and volume and lots of tones available. don't play clean again why? distortion firmly in the marshall camp not boogie like and i'm glad. i like distortion but i need that punch to. i play avariety of purchased and home built guitars. all with hbuckers except for my tele with a gfs hot overwound bridge p/u that kills through this amp. hbuckers are great to. again i play rock and hard rock(maybe some heavy blues and the occasional drop d)and this is perfect. punch sustain tube compression and some ambient vibrato pulsing as well. great for power chords and low single note riffing. soloing sings and this is straight in no fx. no noise issues at all.

Enough to do the job properly. The low channel gives a great bassmanesque sound, while the high channel gives you a vintage Marshall tone. A great amp for the studio (Steve Albini has it in his inventory) and for on the road (50 watts is more than enough for most venues).
I have the oak combo. The exposed finger jointed oak looks amazing. I think it was a limited edition.

I LOVE THIS AMP! It is one of my favorites. I've owned many amps from vintage to new, and I'll never let go of this one.
The Oak Midget Combo is proof that big things come in small packages. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. It's too bad they are so hard to find. The Oak Midget Combo is destined for the high dollar collector's market.

I have been and always will be a Fender amp guy (have a RI Bassman that I adore). Love tele's too. but I wanted to try out an amp with a heavier sound, and picked this up. Never had a Marshall amp, always used pedals for overdrive/distortion.
I only use this amp for the overdrive sounds, and my oh my, does it deliver. I A/B'd this amp using my tele's (single coil Texas Specials and Rio Grande Muy Grandes) with the pre-amp cranked versus my Bassman with different pedals in front of it(Keeley modded BD-2 and TS-7, an old RAT from the eighties) and for full blown Marshall chunk, there was no comparison.
The gain is definitely not too saturated, and that is what is beautiful about this amp. There is no hiding behind walls of distortion, and the overdrive sound is very "old school". If you want a little more, just pop a pedal in front of it, but I don't need to.
This little guy (actually it weighs about 45 lbs, so it's not that little) is a definite keeper. I never thought I'd gig with two amps, but this has made me rethink things.
I've been thru a ton of gear - Mesa Boogie Mark III, ADA MP-1, Fender Twin, MusicMan RD112, etc, etc. Going forward I'll use my Bassman for clean sounds and this amp for dirty sounds. What a rig I now have, after all these years.

I have no clue as to the reliability of this amp. But I've put a Hoffman board in my Bassman, basically rebuilding that amp, so I'm not afraid to repair this one if need be.

I bought this amp in the late 90's and have never wanted to part with it since! If you're a rocker this is the amp for you. These little combo amps are getting rare to find, but if you have a chance to buy one grab it!!! They don't have reverb and the high and low channels aren't switchable(although your local guitar tech could do so for you if desired). If you can get past that you'll find these amps to be a lil' ass kicker!

Stock from the factory this amp sounds really good with tons of tube saturating distortion. These little Titans have got 70's-80's rock covered, 90's rock scooped is also covered. If you want to take it to another level, say grunge or speed metal you will need to incorporate a pedal with it(but you'd have to do that with any amp). However, with a tube change from 12ax7's to ECC83's The amp got a much brighter tone! I also replaced the stock Eminence speaker(which sounded very good) with Eminence's new Red Coat Series Tonker speaker. Wow!!! If you've always wanted to develop your own signature sound this can be one way to do it. For the price they blow Marshalls away! Iknow, I've had my share of Marshalls.

I've been playing for 21 years and have bought and tried many different amps through the years. You can't beat this raunchy little 50 watt combo for gigs or for in the studio. It mikes up well and is fun for practicing too. I'd replace it if I could find another one without an hesitation! It's got everything I need and I don't have to lug around the full(or half) stacks anymore! This little amp was worth every penny that I paid for it and has only increased in value through the years, but I won't part with it anyways!!!

I bought this new a few weeks ago. According to the distributor, this was the LAST Sovtek guitar amp left in stock at New Sensor (Sovtek). I originally wanted the Tube Midget Head, but settled for this rather than roll the dice on eBay... The speaker date code is mid-1999, so it was prob made in late-1999 and has been sitting at Sovtek for 4 years waiting on me :) . It's a 1X12 combo with the midget amp section and a mediochre eminence 12BR8 speaker. As with all Sovteks, no reverb or channel switching or effects loop, so I knockoff three points for those missing features. It does have master volume though, and has one of the best preamp distortions I have ever heard. I use it strictly at home, but it has enough power to perform just about any typical non-miked gig. You might have to have an extension cab though.

I'm using it primarily with a Carvin Bolt strat-style guitar with a little '59 in the neck and hot rails in the mid and bridge. I play primarily 70's-80's rock, blues, and some psychadelic stuff (hawkwind). This amp seems to cover that field pretty well. As I said before, this thing has got the best master-volume preamp distortion I have ever heard (and I've owned boogies before). The tone controls are very usable and react with each other, so there are many tone possibilities there. This is the second Sovtek amp I've owned, and both of these are the only non-reverb amps that I truly enjoy playing with no effects at all. They are just so musical. I've heard that a lot of musician's snubb them because they think they're cheap. That's their loss. I guarantee that if you blindfolded them and played one of these, they would be impressed by the tone. Some people just can't seem to get around appearance or cost... The distortion is incredible, I can get sabbath, VH, Rush, Floyd, any of them with a little knob tweaking. It even gets that elusive Brian May sound. I haven't messed with the clean much yet, but from an initial trial it seems average. It's not princeton-clean, more like bassman-clean. Very bluesy. When you preamp distort the clean channel, it gets a pretty good blues distortion. The clean channel makes a mean growl when you power-amp distort it. Of course, this is a LOUD amp so you might get grief from the band or your neighbors when you do that. The stock eminence speaker is about what you would expect; it does the job but if you crank the bass up it flubs a bit. I am plugging it into a 1X12 vintage 30 cabinet and the difference is tremendous. The external cab is closed-back and the bass response is outstanding with this amp. It makes the distortion even better. The amp is not noisy at all. The only time you hear white noise is when the high-gain channel is cranked. But even then it is better than most amps I've heard. I side-by-sided this with my Hot Rod deluxe and the Sovtek wins hands-down. The distortion is at least as good, if not better, than anything on my Boss GT6. I'll give it a 10 in the sound category for the amp, the speaker would get about an 8. I'll be swapping it for a vintage 30 soon...

I don't gig, so no backup is needed. The amp seems reliable. My brother has been playing a MIG-50 for about 9 years now, and has never had any trouble with it. The construction of the cabinet is decent except for the back panels, where the connections are weak and a couple of the screws were stripped out from the factory. The plastic input jacks look like they will need replacing one day. I haven't owned this one long enough so I won't score it here.

The retailer I bought this from had them drop-ship it straight to me from SOVTEK/New Sensor. Boy were they slow.. It took them weeks to send it to me. I certainly hope I don't have to deal with them regarding repairs...

I've been playing off and on for 7 years. I've owned a lot of gear in that time. I was one of those guys who changes out equipment every few months looking for better tone. After owning numerous boogies, vintage fenders, and countless stomp boxes and effects, I have settled on this amp, a Hot rod Deluxe, and a Boss GT6. I have several vintage fenders in the closet including a 1965 Pro Reverb, but they are one-trick ponies, and maintenance is high on them. Taking usefulness and weight into consideration, this amp is a best buy. I do wish it had channel switching, reverb and an effects loop, but I suspect that these would end up robbing the tone of this amp. I suspect that over the next few months, this will become my favorite amp. I paid a high price to have a brand new one, but you can find these on eBay for about $250 all day long. Just make sure you get the "midget" ones so you get the killer distortion. Oh, in case you get lucky and find a NEW one for sale, they accidentally shipped me his invoice in the packing label so here is the dealer cost: $335 + 25 shipping = $360 . That is the combo, so the head would be considerably cheaper. That's a little bargaining power if you are lucky enough to find a NOS one in a music store.

This is kick ass little beast. Don't let the size fool you (or the name) 50 watts so you can crank it up and get the tone you're looking for without having grandma come downstairs and blow you away. Very simple design. Limitations are obvious with no reverb or channel switching. If you are looking for bells and whistles stop now. If you want vibrant tone this is the amp for the price it can't be touched. You can find these for half the price of 50 watt plexi marshalls and achieve the same gutsy sound. Boxey and heavy, it is really cute compared to the rectangular cut-outs from most companies.
Similar to the Orange amps you may have seen. Made in Russia some of the dials are less than last forever quality but you can easily replace them. Believe me you will not be disappointed with this head.
It is tough and the sound is top notch. I play a 67 fender mustang through it (by way of a dunlop wah-wah) and the speaker of choice is what else is 4-12 marshall cab. Many people use this amp in the studio (or live) to clean up their signal as a preamp before pedals then into their 'real' amp using the sovtek essentially as a slave.
If you can find one for less than $400 Steal it now. Sovtek is out of business (serviced by electro-harmonics) so go for it now.

I use a PRS McCarty with Humbucker and one with soapbars. I play a lot of styles of music. I have found if you use the low input you get a cleaner sound. If you back the pickup volume to 7 it cleans up real good. I use a Maxon 808 and a Sparkle drive and a marshall govn'or pedals. I like the sound I get out of this amp.

I have been playing for over 30 years. I have had in the past Marshalls and to be honest with you they are Junk. The Sovtek is far better. I have now 2 DR. Z 's . a Fender Super Reverb, Ampeg, and a Hughes Kenttner and a POD. I think the Sovtek is a very useable amp. Yeah I get sick when I think about how much I paid for the other amps.
I get a sweet sound out of it.
I would get another one if lost.
I hate I did not find this amp before I got The Z's. The Z's are great but look at how much I could of saved. Because its cheap do not overlook this jewel in the rough.
Mine has a COOL wood cabinet.

This amp is a single channel tube amp. It is rated at 50 watts. the controls are simple. A master, volume, treble, mid, bass, and a presence knob. It doesn't have reverb which I wish it did. It was shipped out with sovtek tubes which is to be expected. It has two 12AX7WAs and One 12AX7WB for the preamp and it has two 5881s for the power section. I bought this amp as a closeout from musicians friend and after taking a look inside I found out that this is an older model. I think it was made around 94 so it is 6 years old!! The trim seems to have yellowed a bit which to me is kinda appealing. It makes the amp look well used. The pots are actually individual standard size ones. They are not the mini pots that so many amps now a days have. I give it a 7 rating because it doesn't have reverb and I wish it has a seperate clean channel.

For the money I guess this is a pretty good deal. I only spent 225 on this thing. The sound quality depends on what you compare it too. It has very little clean headroom which really dissapoints me and basically defeats my purpose of buying it. I play mainly emocore. But I also play hardcore and some punk. I never use the distortion channels on my amps. They never give enough gain for my taste. I play a squier stagemaster with an HSH pickup configuration. I also play a peavey tele copy with a humbucker in the bridge, and a squier tele. My guitars then go into a crybaby, big muff, danelectro fab tone, mxr phase 90, and then to a danelectro dan echo pedal. Along with this amp I own a crate vc5212. I wanted this amp basically for clean power since I use distortion pedals. Well I didn't get that. The clean sound it gets seems very lifeless. The distortion sounds it gets can be decent but since it's a single channel amp you get no clean. I am thinking about getting an a/b switch and using my crate for clean and the sovtek for dirt. The distortion is gets is not the best but for 225 it's good enough. I am thinking about sticking NOS tubes in it to see how the sound changed. I will switch the 12ax7s to 12at7s to see how much that effects the clean headroom. This thing doesn't really have anything it's really good at. I guess it's average all around. I wouldn't buy it for an only amp but for me it was an experiment and I will find a use for it. The clean isn't as good as my crate's or my friends hot rod deluxe but the distortion is much much better then what you get with the deluxe. For the price it's a much better amp then the deluxe. If it only had more clean headroom and sparkle and reverb I would buy it over the deluxe any day. The deluxe has a very unpleasant flabby bass that you just cant get rid of. So if I compare it to the two amps I have it beats one and is beat by the other.

Sovtek makes things cheap. I wouldn't want to rely on this thing without some sort of back up. I think I will change the cheap plastic jacks and also change the pots since I can!(haha! Sorry all of you who have bought the new ones! cant quite do that huh?)I have a big muff that is made by sovtek and it's as cheap as can be but it sounds so good! I love it! I think the cheapness is a part of the love of sovtek. It's built ok but I would be careful since tube amps usually sit towards the troublesome side. I think this would sit a little closer to the edge. I haven't had any problems yet.

I don't think I would buy this thing again. It's really not very useful to me since It doesn't have much clean headroom but I will hold on to it. It's a toy and I'm sure I'll find something to do with it. It looks cool. it looks cheap but that's what makes it cool to me! Just be careful. If you are looking for an amp to work really hard and be your one and only this baby sure aint the one! Look somewhere else. But if you just want something to play with check it out.

My main axe is a '98 Gibson SG with .012's Ocassionaly I'll play a Les Paul,Strat or Tele...it depends. In the high input, using both humbuckers, this amp will give you the most raunchy overdrive at a pindrop. The low input is crystal clean, and extremely full. I play the blues and southern rock and the low input gives me that quiet smooth response that I love. The high input can become noisy, but only past seven on the volume. ...And this amp is loud. With the volume on 5, through a Marshall 2x12, I can play virtually any club without the P.A.,and with the master volume, I don't have to push my amp to overdrive.
