my sunn 2000s is old. the guy i bought it from used it for a few years then put into his shed, so i am guessing late 60s to early 70s. this amp is very veristile. i can get the highs and lows. i enjoy playing with the old zepplin sound and then switching to a nice bright slaping sound. this old girl has two channels with two inputs for each channel. there is a normal and a bright channel. the bright iwoul assume would be for those old cabniets that gave yopu no tone. this amp is basiclly a plug in wait for the tubes to warm up and play. there are no bells or wistles on this amp just your basic bass, treble, and middle knobs and a switch for more bass.

i have two pj aria basses and also a guild fretless that i use to play through my sunn. one of my arias has active pickups and the sunn holds its one as i slap through what ever i slap. i also can get an ok fretless sound with my guild. it takes some work, but after a while i can genrally get the woody sound. also my amp doesn't start to distort until i turn the volume past 6 or 7, and thats only becuse the jbls in the cabniet are in need of reconing, the distortion gets quite nasty.

i am just now replacing the tubes and plan to have it checked for other possable problems only to keep up on preventive mantianance. i have taken this amp out without a backup but we only played a few songs.

im pretty sure this is 68-69 head. it is ofcourse all tube (4-6550 or kt88) and it sounds great. its pure old fashioned gritty rock and roll bass, and that suits me fine. i play old fashioned gritty rock and roll music. (think one part CREAM one part THE WHO one part PINK FLOYD) the amp is versitile enough live since i have alot of range on my HAMER CRUISE BASSES. in the studio i would prefer more options. it has brite and normal inputs. on/off (duh) standby, and polarity. vol, treble, bass, and contour(mids)controls in tone shaping and also a bass boost switch(i never need it. it puts out about 100-120 watts at 4ohms. we play pretty loud (so they tell us) and these are the settings i have been using. vol 7 tbl 3 bass 2 cntr 7 and it cranks. i am running it through a sunn concert 2-15. its what i like live, simple and straight forward.

i play finger style w/roundwounds j style p/u's full up and variy the tone as needed. i dont know if i play hard or not but i would guess med hard. the sound of the amp (smooth, warm and fuzzy) works well with the more aggressive modern sound of my HAMERS. the tube compression is something im still at odds with. i like the smoothness but i do miss the solid state response sometimes. its pretty quiet, and i dont really have any complaints about it bar two. 1. tubes you gotta love em but you gotta change em. 2. there is polarity switch since there is no ground on the plug (ever been shocked by the mic?). or than that tres cool!

i havent had it for too long nor have i had any amp trauma, so i cant say anyy thing about dependibility. but from what ive read sunn owners seem to be very happy all around with their amps.

zip nada none. so you have to find your own amp guru, a local electronic yoda (may the tone be with you) to help you out if needed.

ive been playing music for 12 years or so and 5 of those on bass. my only other bass amp was a HARTKE 2000(do you see a trend?) and i thought it sounded pretty good(though alot different). if stolen id be up the creek as these just arent around for sale. i have played a fair amount of other bass amps and this is the best i have played for what i do. if you are looking for hifi keep looking, if you like a beefy sound and can find one the 2000s is a fine amp.
