This amp kicks ass! It's a Sunn of course it does. That's what they were made for. Very versatile and it's so ridiculously powerful.
Love the Tremolo and reverb too.

Sound Quality : 10
Fantastic sound quality. You can get a great dirty sound out of it for bass if you crank the volume and the hi and lo bass. and leave everything else on 0.
Nice warm clean guitar sound too. Perfect for effects and fuzz boxes.
I'm currently using a Sunn Mustang Bass thru it. Sounds massive!

Reliability : 8
I'd use it at a gig without a backup.
It seems to be ok but I've got a weird earth buzz and a couple of the pots need tightening up but come on it is about 34 years old so I'd say it's not doing bad. Let's see where your plastic Trace Elliots and Peavey's are in 30 years. They don't make em like this anymore.

I need a shematic but you have to buy them. BOOOO! So if anyone cann help me with this then please get in touch.
I'm currently running it through a Sunn Beta 205 2x15" cab but the cab can only handle 100w and I'm getting a strange earth buzz from it and every time I touch my strings it stops. I also use a step down transformer as it has a US plug on it.
Is there any way I can stop this?
I've tried it with numerous instruments and cables just to check and I get the same result whatever I use.
Is the amp just too powerful for the cab or if I play a gig and get a bit sweaty or get beer chucked at me will I die?
Is there any way to change the impedance on this thing?
I luckily got the original information package for the cab but not the head.
Can anyone help?
Mail me.

I've been playing about 15 years. I also own and Ampeg Classic SVT and 8x10 cab and the Sunn could easilly give that a run for it's money no problem and be miles louder. Maybe just as good as the old SVT's but it's definately better than the new Classic ones they've got out at the moment and definately better than the crap rack-mounted ones.

2 channels w/ 2 input jacks for each channel, Has a mixer input, preamp output, polarity selection switch, etc.--sounds good as a p.a. power amp.

No distortion channel.....

Sound Quality : 10
This thing is great! I use it as a power amp-I run a Marshall Valvestate 265R (which sounds like absolute crap by itself!!-the head version is even worse) through this, then into a coliseum lead 4x12 cab. The distortion sounds so great!! I've never been much of the Marshall fan (their heads suck, along with their cabs which bottom out like a mofo), but this head relly bring out the brightness, and makes the amp sound soooo nice!!

Reliability : 10
I've had no problems so far...

Since Sunn was bought by Fender long ago, I don't have an opinion about support..

I've been playing for about 3 years now.. have a band... I play with an Ibanez RG470, 2 massive effects processers, and a bad horsie wah. This thing also handles my Fender acoustic very well. I would look for a new one if this was stolen-but since tese are really hard to find, I would cry first..I got the cab and head for $300 (yes, I am a lucky little bastard)

This amplifer has two seperate channels one with trem and reverb, the other without. The channels have identical controls otherwise. The control layout is as follows, volume, bass(bright normal swtch),low mid, highmid(high low switch), treble (high low switch). I believe the amp is rated at 320 watts into 2 ohms.

Sound Quality : 9
All I can say is clean clean clean! (and loud loud loud) This amp has more headroom than anyone could possibly need. I got this amp at a music store where I used to work for fifty bucks on the off chance that it might be cool. It is one piece of gear that I have actually kept for several years now.(for me that is quite amazing) I'm not going to say that it's my main amp but it sounds really good. As a matter of fact everything sounds good through it. It simply rocks on bass guitar and if I need a backup PA head it delivers(as much as I hate to admit to using it for that, but it really works well) For electric guitar it gets a great tight clean sound. The bottom end really thumps while the top end is glassy. It only does clean but you can get a whole lot of tonal variation from the tone controls and the tone switches. it really comes alive when you run a dist box or preamp in front of it.The tone shaping abillities of this amp allow for immense variation in the character of the distortion. I have run a tube screamer as well as several other devices with this amp and the tube screamer is my favorite.(allthough a PV Rockmaster preamp was simply awesome for ultra high gain sound, and I'm not a PV fan at all) The best thing I like about this amp is its tightness. I hate squishy bottom end, none here! To sum things up this amp only does loud tight clean but it does it very well. With the right preamp you can get just about any sound you need. The reverb and trem although decent are not spectacular. Ithink of them as icing on the cake.

Reliability : 10
This amp refuses to die. It has never failed to perform flawlessly. I have abused this amp mercilessly and it was even in a house fire. I don't think it can be killed. It will probablly work perfectly long after I'm dead and gone.

Does Sunn even exist anymore?

Overall Rating : 9
I have been playing for about 10 years now and I have owned every thing from a PV bandit 112 to a MESA Boogie Tremoverb. I have had rack systems and currently play though a Line 6. Something about this amp makes me hold on to it. It just has a rather unique (and loud) voice. I don't think that I'll ever part with it. I've never seen another one but if I do I might just have to swipe it up.(although what i would do with two of these monsters is beyond me) If you see one you might do well to do the same. They're probably cheap too!
