Its A Late Nineties Issue. This Amp Does Everything That I Need all By Itself. I Currently am Playing in a Variety Band "Catfish Stew" in Wilmington NC. We Play "Beach Boogie and Blues". I'm What you Might call a Lead Guitarist. However, I say I'm a Guitarist.
This Amp Has 2 Channels and Is Foot Switchable. Channel 1 is fairly clean and has a Volume, Treble, Bass and Middle Controls. Channel 2 Has A Gain, Treble, Bass, Middle and Volume Controls. The Presence control covers Both Channels.
It Has 2 Effects Loops, With Pre and Post controls.
It could Use "Fender Reverb".
Why Fender Reverb? Because this Sunn Amp is Made By Fender and Is simular to the Evil Twin!
I Bought this Amp Because I Had a 70's Issue of the Model T and Really Missed it!
This Amp is Better!
Both Issues could be dropped from an Airplane and be used that Night to play in COBO Hall!
I currently Play Clubs, Wedding Receptions and Pig Pickings or Where ever!
This amp covers it all.
However!
I Must Confess, I'm Not using this Amp!
When I do, I Have 2 Peavy 5150 Cabinets to Help it Fly!
I also Have a Laney Pro Lead Amp that Sits Idle
And I'm Using A Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 with a Fender 4-12 Bottom and a Marshall JCM 600 (212) with a Marshall 4-12 Bottom!

Sound Quality : 10
I Use a 91 Gibson Les Paul, a Gibson ES 347, and a 84 Fender Squire Stratocaster.
I'm a Bit Of a Show Off. I Love Hendrix, Zappa, Captain Beyond, Deep Purple, ZZ Top and Zeppelin. I'm a 60's,70's Psycodelic Kind of Guy!
I also write and Play Originals.
This Amp was Built for all of the above

Carlos Santana Would Love This Amp.

Reliability : 10
I Bought This Amp Used From "The Music Loft" in Wilmington.
It was and Is in New Condition. Rob sold it to me for $600.
I've Never Had a Problem with it!

It's a Fender Product and Can be repaired anywhere!

Nope! Not Yet!

I've Been Playing since 1966, when I was 14.
I Played Ny First Paying gig in 1967 and In 1988 My Band "Ivy Soul" Opened up for the Brownsville Stations Second Concert.

If It were Stolen,
Well
I'm Thinking about selling of all of My Equipment and Buying 2 Twin Reverbs and 2 Matching 4-12 Cabinets.
I Love this Amp, I Love all of My Equipment,
But I Must remain Practical!

Looks like it's been a while since a review was left for this amp, and since I have one now, I suppose I'll give my personal review. I think this amp was made in the late nineties. I play stoner rock/fuzz rock mainly. Stuff that sounds like early Black Sabbath, Kyuss, Fu Manchu, Bongzilla, etc. This amp is great for anything rock. It can do metal so-so, but you may need a little help from a distortion/overdrive/compression pedal. It's got the effects loops in back. Two channels: clean and distortion. No headphone jack though, that would've been nice. I play in my living room mainly, but ocassionally I get together with some friends and have a jam session. It's got plenty of power for anything! I currently have four RUBY 6L6GC's and six Sovtek 12AX7's in it.

Sound Quality : 9
This amp sounds great. Nice clean channel that will certainly rattle the walls. I mainly play through the distortion channel, which is killer! It does everything from old, Bon Scott AC/DC to Black Label Society. This thing is VERY LOUD! It has 120 watts of tube power. I usually flip the arena/club switch on the back to the club setting, making the total output at 30 watts. It is still unbelievably LOUD- if you turn the volume up, that is. I play a 1996 Gibson Les Paul Studio with a Gibson 57' classic plus humbucker in the bridge position and a Gibson 490 in the neck position. A great combination. Not much noise from this amp. Relatively quiet for a tube amp.

Reliability : 9
It's built as-solid-as a rock. I would not hesitate to use it live without a backup. No issues!

I have been playing guitar for 20 years. I have owned many amps, guitars, and effects pedals, along with a drum set or two along the way. I currently own the Sunn head which sits on a 4X12" Carvin Legacy straight cab. I have a Morley Classic Wah pedal. I also own a Marshall 60 watt Valvestate combo amp. As far as guitars go, I have a Gibson Les Paul Studio, a Fender Telecaster Custom, and a Washburn acoustic. If you have the opportunity to get you hands on one of these Sunn amps, DO IT! You will not be disappointed. If it were stolen I'd first have a cow, and then I'd start trying to find another one!

1998 was the year it was made. I play jazz, rock, blues, heavy metal. This amp has very simple controls. Two channels. Stripped down. It has the cleans that allow me to play jazz, and the distortion allows me to play all kinds of loud music. The effects loop is good. It seems to delete some noise from the gain once activated.

Sound Quality : 10
The clean channel is very loud even on club setting. I have to mess with it between 1 and 2 to get a nice comforting volume. Once chugging along, though, it starts to break up into an old fender crunch. Put it on arena, 100 watts, and it doesnt break up at all. The distortion can be turned up to 5 on the club setting without damaging your ears. This is good because it starts to overdrive the preamp and get the best distortion available. On the neck pickup of my les paul, it has the classic sunn tone and bassiness. On the bridge pickup, it has the high end of a marshall but alot thicker and crisper.
Built like a tank

Awesome features on this thing! 2 channels: clean (well, semi-clean) and distorted. Switchable ohmage for different cabinets (4, 8, and 16 ohm, very handy). True bypass effects loop. Tube amp with 6 12AX7's and I believe 4 6L6's. 120 watts rms. Sounds loudest of course running at 4 ohms. Arena/club switch, to switch between 25 and 120 watts. Pretty simple idea, but with lots of pro features that you wouldn't expect to find on an amp in this price range.

Sound Quality : 8
I play a Fender American Standard Strat with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge. I play through one Marshall 1960B straight cab, and one Line 6 HD cabinet (very nice cab, by the way!) This thing sounds pretty damn sweet. The "clean" sound is not for everyone. It does distort even at low volumes, but stays clean enough for the style that my band and I play. A lot of it depends on your speakers and how hard you play, of course. Being a tube amp, if you hit harder, it will be more distorted, if you lighten your attack or roll back on the volume knob, it will clean up nicely. EQ seems to help a bit with cleanup too, though I would agree with the previous poster that the EQ doesn't affect the tone as much as I would've hoped. Still, that's a problem than can be easily fixed by purchasing an EQ pedal.

Distorted tone is fucking awesome, and way versatile! Before this, I was playing a Sunn Beta Lead, which is a nice amp as well. That amp had a sort of thin and grainy distortion, still nice though. The Model T's distortion is awesome though! It is very chunky sounding, and still has a lot of definition to it. It of course can do metal, and if you back it off, it has a nice hard rock bite as well. Leads are no problem with this thing either. The channel is a little dark for my taste, but it's a good contrast to the clean which is is loud and bright.

Speaking of volume, watch out, this is a LOUD 120 watts! My clean volume is on 2 and my distorted volume is on like 3, and it's plenty loud enough to overpower the drums and bass. This may be the loudest amp I have ever played. Of course, at very high volumes, feedback becomes a big issue, as this amp is very prone to it, even on some clean settings. Again, an EQ or a noise gate can fix this problem.

This is an amp I think you either love or hate. It can handle all the heavy stuff really well, and with some mods to the tubes could probably handle other styles as well.

Reliability : No Opinion
I've only had this amp for like two weeks, so I can't really attest to its reliability. It seems really solid, though! Heavy as hell. I bought it used from Guitar Center. Unfortunately, when I bought it, someone had decided to steal the fuse before I left the store with it, so I had to have the fuse holder and fuse replaced. Luckily, I am friends with people at a much better guitar store that fixed it for free. Just a sidenote: watch out for Guitar Center! They are assholes, and if you buy something off the floor that an employee wanted, apparently they think this justifies them fucking with your amp. BEWARE!

Customer Support : No Opinion
Sunn is long gone. The reissue was made by Fender, and Fender is a huge corporation so they're probably not too helpful. Just buy a schematic from them and take it to a good tech.

Overall Rating : 8
I've been playing for 11 years. I own all kinds of Sunn amps, a Sovtek Mig 100, and a Crate Shockwave 350. This is the best amp I have ever owned, hands down. Sunn amps are damn nice, even if this is technically a Fender head. If this head were stolen, I would kill the guy who stole it, and then kill his entire family (immediate and extended) just to make a point. I love that this thing has a biting yet clear clean tone, and that the distortion is brutal yet retains definition and chunk. I also love the volume on this amp, definitely helpful! I don't think there is anything I can think of that I wish it had. Compared to other stuff I own and have played, this is better. Mesa is too one sided, and muddy sounding. Plus, they're weak in the volume area. Marshalls are so damn overrated, I won't even comment on those pieces of crap. Peaveys are OK but they are very quiet, and are way too noisy. Overall, try to pick one of these up if you find one. You won't be disappointed!

Reissue 2 channel with versatile effects loop. The external bias on this thing is awesome, saves you money. Straightforward rock amp with some extras. Only thing I could ask for feature wise is a focus/resonance knob like on Riveras and Peaveys, but then again, no one has those except Peavey and Rivera! Oh, direct xlr out is cool, I've used it a couple times.

Sound Quality : 10
I'm playing a Les paul with a JB in the bridge and this thing gets pretty heavy on the lead channel. More gain than anyone could ask for. But here's the best part, I have my neck pickup volume way low, and I use my pickup switch and use my neck pickup as my "clean channel". Very tough to find an amp with a channel that cleans up nicely, extremely versatile. Clean channel not so much, it's allright but I just dont use it. My 10 goes to the distortion channel only.

Reliability : 10
So far so good. absolutely nothing wrong. Had it a year

fender is good, but it might be tough since this amp is discontinued

I've been playing 4 years, the only effect I use with this is a Crybaby 535q. If it was stolen I would probably get a modeler or something like that just because that would be cool. I really love heavy rythm distortion on this, very thick, I've gotten tons of compliments on my tone from sound guys.

The other reviewer did a nice breakdown of all the features, so I won't bother listing everything. I will say this is a 2-channel, all-tube amp, mine was from 1999. Bought used on ebay. Has a nice 120/25 watt feature. I play with my band only using the 25 watt setting. This amp has serious power. 10 tubes total...4 power tubes, 4 preamp tubes, 2 effects loop tubes. NO REVERB...1 point off for that. Otherwise, it's loaded with features.

Sound Quality : 9
I'm primarily using my '62 RI American made Fender Jaguar, or my Strat. This amp is nice in that your guitar's sound really shines through. Very warm sounding amp. The clean channel is very dry. I've heard it distorts when turned up. Honestly, the amp is so loud I haven't even needed to turn it up past 3. The distortion sound is absolutely brilliant. Sounds amazing. Only slight complaint is that the EQ knobs don't seem to effect the sound very much...and the amp is a bit on the bright side.

Reliability : No Opinion
Just got it, only time will tell.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Called Fender to try an obtain a footswitch, they were helpful albeit disorganized. I was given the wrong product number, then I was told I would have to wait over 6 months for one...now they say it will take a month to get one from their factory in Mexico. We shall see...

Overall Rating : 9
A bit pricey, but these are slowly becoming harder to come by. I opted for the reissue because it has many more options than the vintage Sunn models. Bottom line, this amp sounds and looks fantastic.

199? Sunn Model-T Reissue Head. Fender ressurected Sunn & put out some fantastic amps but now the Sunn has set again. 2 Channels, 1 clean & one with gain/master, 29 Watts or 120 watts (switchable), FX Loop w/mix control for each channel (also switchable), 1 presence knob affects both channels, Switchable OHM ratings 4/8/16 to fit your cabinet's OHM's, Main speaker out & Ext. Speaker out. Circuit breakers, do-it-yourself biasing, trouble LED's if your tubes go bad, front & back grill so you can look at your tubes glow. Simple Black & white control panel. A bit on the weighty side. It gets a nine only because it has NO REVERB (but there's ways around that!!)

Sound Quality : 9
I use the following: Gibson 1974 SG Special w/mini-humbuckers (real close in sound to a Firebird). Thomas Organ Wah, Ernie Ball Volume, Ibanez FL-9 Flanger, Boss Line selector(to manually mix clean sound & delay output) Digitech Delay (the old 2 button kind). I use a patch cable in the FX Loop which makes it a switchable boost for solos, and since the FX Loop has tubes, it gives me a little more distortion too! Soon I'll get an outboard reverb and put that in the loop so the verb comes on for solos. I use a Music Man 115RH cabinet 15" speaker cab with full-range mojotone replacement speaker. The cabinet has a forward port that's oversized, giving it an open-back type sound with less of a directional tunnel like most marchall 4x12. 15" speakers do work for guitar, you get lots more bass and a bit less presence. I play in a band that runs the gamut, punk to metal to funk to blues rock to wierd atmospheric space rock to drum & bass. This amp does it all!! I've played a Gibson 1975 Les Paul Special and a Les Paul Junior with P-90's and the amp really lets the individual characters of the guitars come through!

Clean channel starts to break up around 3-4 for me, which is just fine cause it's so damn loud I never turn it up past 2. Put a marshall or THD power break in the speaker chain and turn the clean up for some delicious vintage power tube distortion.

Distortion channel kicks ass. Gain around 4-5 for some nice breakup & plenty of articulation. Gain around 6-10 for some powerful high gain distortion with lots of compression. Palm muting has never sounded so good.

What I really love about this amp is that no matter where you set the EQ or gain, IT ALWAYS SOUND GOOD!! It's a straight ahead vintage styled amp, but with awesome modern features like do-it-yourself biasing and circuit breaker protection. Lose a power tube at a show and KEEP GOING. The power-down feature is awesome, lets the power tubes break up sooner. Don't let that 29 watts fool you, this is a TUBE amp, so 29 tube watts sounds more like 50-60 solid state watts.

Minuses are few but worth mentioning. EQ is somewhat subtle, even with the mid all the way down there is no "scoop". I play with the bass all the way up and wish I had more (the bass freq could be tuned lower something I may get modified.) One presence knob for both channels is somewhat limiting.

Reliability : 10
I've had it for about 10 months, never a problem. Had the power pulled before I could put it on standby and cool it down several times, powers back up a-okay. I've even played bass through it with a sansamp Bass Driver and it can take it. The bottom line, I did sound for a band that toured with CLUTCH, and their guitar player had one with orange cabs as his main rig. 'Nuff Said.

Customer Support : 10
Fender handles all Customer Service, and they currently make a 4x12 that is almost the same as the matching Reissue Sunn Model-T 4x12. I got the amp with no footswitch. I called fender. They looked up the part, told me where to get it. Two weeks later I have my footswitch. Piece of cake.

Overall Rating : 10
You may think $600 is a lot for a used amp, but when the reissue came out is was priced at $1000, so I'm still making out. I saw CLUTCH play 3 nights in a row, both guitarist and bassist using Sunn reissue heads. If you see one of these give it a listen!!

REISSUE : Two channels, tube buffered fx loop, etc. I love the easy biasing feature. For that feature alone this gets a 10.

Sound Quality : 8
I find the amp to be over all too bright. I put in some JJ/Tesla ECC83S's to darken it up some, but it's still bright. Fortunately you can turn the presence and treble down and get a darker sound. The gain channel with the mids scooped and treble down sounds great. The clean is the only problem here. Not enough headroom and not really that nice. If you're looking for a loud amp with great distortion, buy this. I compaired to my Bogner Ecstasy and Rivera Knucklehead and this was as good if not better.

A rock.

Great distortion, poor clean. I really think that this amp could have done good things for Fender. Totally mismarketed, if marketed at all. If it had a good clean, I'd give it a 10.

fender "sunn" reissue
'98 i believe. two channels clean and HELL the clean would be good for very low volume recording but anything over 4 on 100 watts is muddy and dead. the second channel which i call "hell" is monstrous. 4 gl6l6 power tubes. a light angry smooth distortion or a horrendous wall of distortion and low end.

Sound Quality : 9
on 100 watts the distortion channel is great around 4-6 gain and 5-7 volume. plenty loud and excellent texture. i had to use a peice of garbage peavey while my sunn was being fixed. i had almost becoem acostom to the crappieness untill i plugged my sunn in after about 2 months of the peavy..and then i remembered why i love sunn.. a smooth wraped distortion. wonderfull midrange for a little over teh top classic rock sounds. blistering highs if your into 19th fret soling and that crap. ohh yes
the palm mutes are a special treat for anyone interested.
teh high gain channel is pretty damn versitile. the clean however is not
it could sound good wiht a nice distortion pedal if yo uwnat to blow them away with your second channel.

Reliability : 7
i got this amp second hand form a good freind and he didnt want it because it has some severe feedback issues. i went in to the local amp shop and they wouldnt touch it. the old sunns maybe the new sunns definately not. it had been used for low volume recording initialy with me, but when idecided to write some stuff with my freind and i turned it up i blew a tube and took out some resistors. i took it abotu 20 miles to the closest fender authorised repair shop and spent 90 bucks to replace the resistors and 80 bucks on new tubes and biasing.

other than a freak blow out it has been solid and a joy .

Customer Support : 7
like i said

the new fender imitations of the model t arent loved or respected by amp clasicists. find a fender tech and your good to go. parts arent that expensive

Overall Rating : 9
ive had this amp for almost a year. playign guitar for 2. i use a jackson pro circa 1994 with a floyd rose tremelo system.

if it were lost or stolen i would be devistated. o am currently looking for a second generation model t to do some serious rocking.

i love teh aesthetic of the chassis teh tone the distortions versatility. i hate teh fact that it isnt THAT loud.

but none the lessit is god

ive heard teh same guitar played with a carvin all tube with a sweet ass mid range and tight distortion. ive heard teh same guitar with a peavy sheffeild 120 run through a 4x12.

it easily mames and concours both.

i am not a very big marshall fan

the shit is to expensive and sounds liek a playschool radio put in a fancy chassis.

This is one of the newer ones from like 99 or 2000 I bought it brand new from American Musical Supply this year 2002. I think sunn is no longer a company thought so i'm not sure when this amp was actually made. I like both channels it has a overdrive gain channel and a clean one with a foot switch. It has 100 watts of tube power. 4 6l6's power tubes. It is cool looking too you can see the internals through the front grill. It is an american made amp. It has a switch to switch between 25 and 100 watts which is cool but they both seem really loud. I wish it had reverb though. Would rate this amp higher but it doesn't have an abundance of features but is great just the way it is.

Sound Quality : 8
I didn't like this amp with my Gibson SG classic the p-90's seemed too noisy for it. But my American Hotrodded strat with texas specials sounds great through this amp. It distortion channel is really great for lighter vintage style distortion and blues distortion. I use this through a 1960 classic Marshall 4x12 cab which seems to work pretty good. My Gretsch Jazz guitar sounds pretty good through it. The guitar amp is really loud in general but does sound very good. The distortion channel with my strat inspires my blues guitar playing.

Reliability : 6
I would use this for a gig where I needed a lot of power. I have one concern I was playing this amp with the switch on 25 watts and I had the distortion channel on. I had the volume up to about 3 or so and amp cut out and didn't work for about 4 minutes or so and then it started working again. I don't know if I drove it too much on the 25 watt setting or what but it hasn't happenend again which is good but it did concern me a little.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I think sunn is no longer a company and I don't know if fender would support them or not but you can still get a lot of the parts if it breaks.

Overall Rating : 10
I have been playing for about 7 years and I gave lessons for 2 of those. I play mostly Rockabilly, Blues, and some jazz. I also lead worship at a big church I haven't used this amp there though. The reason I bought this amp is because of the price it was very cheap for being brand new in the box. Great value for a 100 watt all tube guitar amp. I ordered it online so I had never plugged in to it before. But I was very happy with the purchase. Like I said I do wish it had Reverb but I have a nice Electroharmonix Reverb Pedal the holy grail which is cool.

This is a 2000 reissue Sunn model T (made by Fender), all tube....4 6l6, 6 12ax7, 2 channel head. Effects loop has seperate send and return levels for each channel (nice). Has selectable power level (club=25 watts; arena=100 watts). Selectable impedance (16, 8, or 4 ohms). 2 speaker outs. Footswitch for switching channels and effects loop on/off. Also, has rear bias trim pot for biasing the amp and failsafe circuit that switches bad tubes off without killing the amp. Overall...nice features, many you wouldn't find except on real expensive boutique deals. But overall, it is still very straight foward and simple.

Sound Quality : 9
This is the best part. I am playing mainly Les Paul classics thorugh this thing, and it is sweeeeeeet sounding. Channel 1 is...well, I suppose it's the clean channel, but it really isn't all that clean......you dime this baby and it breaks up kinda like a vintage plexi. You can get clean sounds that are useable, but not all that "clean". Basically, channel one sounds like a vintage marshall type amp...(maybe like a vintage SUNN...who knows, never played one). Channel 2 is the high gain channel and will crunch with the best of 'em. It has a really good amount of gain available....without being overkill.....I have had several Mesa Dual Rectifiers and that is a problem I have always had with them. This thing is just soooooooooo warm sounding. That is the sound I like. High gain....but good warm mids. If I want a nice scoop sound, I can dip the mids, but to really get a thrashy tone, I guess I will have to run my PQ-3 parametric eq in the loop or something....the amp is just too warm for that.......and that's what I like. THis thing just plain sounds so THICK! I give it a 9 for it's overdrive tones. It's clean tones could have been better (Maybe it's the output level of my LP classics PU's as when you turn down their volume, it sounds much cleaner), but the rest of the amp is just awesome. It's just what I like....heavy and hard without losing Mids and warmth.

Well, I ordered this from musicians friend and the first one arrived broken because for some reason, they felt they only needed to pack it with a few small pieces of foam. Well, they sent me another and their packing didn't improve, but the amp arrived intact.....so I think I can trust it if it can survive ups with little to no protection.

THis amp has to be the most underrated piece of gear out there today.....guitar world gave it 5 out of 5 (and an editor's pick), but they just don't seem to be that popular. I think me and kid rock's lead player are the only two people using this amp (and I don't get 'em free). I think it has to do with hype. Most people (and I have been guilty of this) think....hey, if I buy this particular brand of amp, I will sound like *insert guitar player here*. Well, maybe, maybe not....but the fact is you need to buy something because it is cool, not because so and so uses it. I admit, I bought a dual rectifier becasue of who used 'em, but it never satisfied me. This does. If you want a great rock amp......check one of these out. They are cheaper (and argueably better) than anything anyone else (especially marshall) is making right now. Try one....maybe it'll be your thing...maybe not....but it definately is mine!

this amp is moderately versatile I play grindy punk as well as rock and roll and it overs the basses pretty well.
it has two channels and a foot switch with a channel switch and an effects loop switch.
The only thing I wish were differant about it is its clean channel, it is kinda trebbley and distorts around 3 which makes me sad.
I gig at partys and local shows in small clubs and the amp has more than enough power for those applications.
Its a hit and miss amp, but it has more hits than misses
oh yeah its handles on the side are very cool because I can put my effect prosesser on top

I use every thing from a Gibson Les Paul Jr. with P90s to a Gibson SG with clasic 57 humbukers with a Fender Telecaster with sigle coils, a Univox High Flyer with humbuckers, a Gibson Les Paulwith humbukers, and a Fender Music Master with single coils in between.
It sounds best clean with my tele and LP jr. and it goes well with my playing style I play wierd chords and eratic notes and its distorion breaks up just right for my sound.
It is noiseless (probably because there are brand new tubes in it) in all enviroments.
This amp cant make that many sounds because of the lack of sensitivity of the controls. You can turn the bass up all the way and only get mabey 25% more bottom and the presance seems only to work on the distortion
the clean channel distorts around three on any setting and I dont like that.
but as I have said before the distortion tears so the laimness of the clean channel can be over looked it is kinda like black sabath mixed with mud honey sounding

Reliability : No Opinion
I havent had it long enough for it to break down yet but it seems so well buit that I shouldent have any probles in the future.
plus it has bias adjustment thingies so that wont be a problem

Customer Support : 10
I have no questions about the customer support because their are lots of fender amp techs all over the place

I have been playing for seven years and I have played on almost every kind of amp. the Sunn T Model is ok its not the best and its not the worst. It could be the king of the amps if the good people at Sunn made some modifications to it. It needs to have no distortion in the clean setting and more bass.
I like my amp alot, its better in tone than a Fender Roc Pro 1000 and has better projetion than a Sovtech Mig 50
I play it though a Marshall JCK 900 B cab and it sounds good even though I am probaly going to get a sunn 4x12 cab in the future.
