1952 Tweed Valco Comet, Model 1610. Original 10" Utah Speaker. 6V6 power tube, 5Y3 Rectifier, and a 6SL7 preAmp. Great little Harp Amp,
with more punch than expected. Two inputs, plus a high gain Mic input. Volume Control and Tone Control. On/off toggle and a
white "power on" light. I added a three prong plug for safety.
I Gig with this all the time, with no back-up. I Mic it through
the PA. Also use BOSS AD-3, for Reverb and versitility.

Great for Blues Harp. With the AD-3, all Mic elements, from cheap crappy elements, to 1950 CR Black Label elements, can be dialed in to give the best sound the element can deliver. I Mic it through a Shure #57 into the PA. It Has loads of Mid and Lows, built into the 10" Utah, and its Hugh Transformers. Guitar sounds equally as well. This is my Best sounding Harp amp. Better than my '62 Premier Twin 8,
my '71 Princeton Reverb, and my '63 Silvertone Bass Amp.

Gonna be 55 years old soon, and it's still Kicking Ass. I don't
use a Backup, but if there was a problem, I could always plug directly into the PA. I Never had a problem. Still has the original
Power and Rectifier Tubes. Someone knocked it off a ledge a couple of years ago, and it didn't even blink. It was not plugged in at the time, and I think the padded cover I got for it from "Studio Slips" helped. Anyway, it's Reliable.

Who, What, Where?
Supro, Valco, National, and a bunch of others, are all the same Company out of Chicago. Went out of Business a long time ago.
Also, Chicago 51, is not the Amp Model, Chicago 51 is the
"Postal Code", which was used prior to Zip Codes being introduced.

Been playing Harp for over 15 years, and Guitar for 40.
If this Amp were stolen, I'd Buy a Gun, and Track him down.

Not much in the way of features - very cool two-tweed cab with chrome control panel, volume/tone, 10" Rola speaker, 12AX7, 6V6, 5Y3. That makes it about 9W output but it sounds louder - the Rola has great projection.

You can put pretty much any guitar through this with great results. I play everything from a 1951 ES-125 to a Tele depending on the gig and the tone and projection always makes me realzie what a great amp this is. I tend to use it all the time for blues (obviously miked up for gigs) and also for jazz work. The amp is very quiet, no hiss at all - it would probably amke a good studio amp but I've never recorded with it.

Not much to go wrong. Other than new tubes and a new 3 prong cord, the amp is as Supro (Valco actually) made it in 1957 - that says a lot for the quality of manufacture and design. I gig it without a backup all the time.

Supro is long gone but the circuit looks pretty straightforward and the components are all standard.

I've played for 25 years and love small amps. This is the best small amp I've even owned and I'd put it head-to-head with any Fender Champ, Harvard or early model Princeton. Everyone should have an amp as simple and elegant as this in their collection - it makes you concentrate on your playing and rewards you with fantastic pure tone. Don't spend big bucks on a vintage Fender or ssmall boutique amp until you've played one of these great amps!

Two-tone tweed beauty, made in 1956/7. 10" Utah, 5Y3, 12ax7, 6V6. Vol/tone + inputs. This amp has the looks and sound to die for. It's probably 12-15w, so it's loud for a practice amp and quiet for a gigging amp. It's not a Fender sound, it's a more midranged focused raw sound than a comparably sized and tubed Fender,

If my house was on fire, this is the amp that I would save - enough said? I've been playing 25 years and have a trio of Supros as well as a great old Alamo Montclair. This one is special, maybe it's the visual appeal of the tweed, maybe it's because it was my first Supro or maybe it's because it simply sounds great!
I play blues and r&b, mostly Teles, although I have a P90 equipped Reverend that I get more partial to with every passing day. Most every guitar I've heard played throught this amp sounds great.

Dead simple, nothing to go wrong other than components eventually wearing out. Very easy to work on.

I've been playing 25 years and had this amp for 2 years. Other than my Smokey, I've put more playing time on this amp than any other amp I've owned. It was this amp that really got me away from fiddling with tone controls and made me realize that an amp either has an intrinsic tone that works for you or doesn't. This one has that for me and I love it. If it were stolen I'd be very upset especially as these babies go for $600+ on eBay now.
