I bought one new in 2006 to use with my Marshall 50 watt Jubilee head. If you plan on using a Marshall head, keep in mind that the head is about 2 inches wider than the cabinet. Looks a little funny. I had to drive the amp real hard to keep up with the rest of the band. Sounds o.k. as long as your playing by yourself. I think a lot of products are not tested in actual band situations. I did not care for the distorted sound out of this cabinet at all. The cleans were o.k. at low volumes. I tried to return the cabinet, but waited past the 24 hours return policy. Finally sold it for a $100.00 loss. This cabinet does not sound like a 4-12 cabinet at all. No bottom end. The cranked volume sounded like a cheap distortion pedal.

I called the THD company about the speakers once I found out they were made by Eminence. You can pull the rubber cover off the back of the speakers if you want to verify this. They said they were not Eminence speakers, but were made by Eminence for THD, O.K. They call them the Vintage & Longhorn. They told me they were patterned after the Celestion Vintage 30 & the Celestion Classic Lead 80. For a $599.00 price, why not use the real deal & be done with it?

I've been playing for about 30 years. I thought I could get a more portable cabinet & still get the 4-12 sound that I'm used to. I don't think any 2-12 will ever get that sound. But this THD is no where close. It's over priced at $599.00 for a light weight cabinet with 2 Eminence speakers that you can buy for about $40.00 each. I've used Eminence speakers before & they are O.K. depending on the application. I tried an Orange 2-12 closed back with Vintage 30s that sounds much better than the THD for less money. It's a larger, well built cabinet which I'm sure helps the sound. I would not not buy another one of these.

I guess I should start off by saying that I work for a store that sells THD products, but I promise that my opinion isn't biased! (We sell plenty of stuff that I'd never bring on stage.) It has 2 16 ohm 80 watt 12" speakers: one THD Longhorn (like Celestion Classic Lead 80) and one THD Vintage (like Celestion G12H30). They're wired in parallel for an 8 ohm load. Parallel inputs and rear bass port. The top recessed handle makes lugging it around a breeze, but makes moving it with your head on top kind of tough, but oh well...It really has everything I need in a cabinet - it's compact and fairly lightweight and sounds great no matter what I run through it.

I currently run a '64 Fender Bassman (AA864) with my THD cab, but I've also used it with a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL 100 head and a Sunn Concert Lead - all sound like they should (newer Marshall = OK, Sunn = pretty damn good for solid state, Bassman = tonal bliss!) I use a Heritage H-150 (Les Paul) and an 80's Japanese Fender Tele. I play in a couple of bands; one is pretty straight ahead rock, the other is psychadelic pop rock. My setup sounds great for both - the Bassman and this cab are a great base for any kind of sound. The frequency response for this cab is great; it's never flabby or mushy, nor is it overly bright or harsh. The port allows for rear projection, therefore a wider sound spread. Because it's a nearly closed back design, it has great bass response.

I just blew the Longhorn last night. I called Ed at THD and he's sending out a new one free of charge. Up until last night it'd been great, so I'll give it an 8 just because I think that the speaker blowing was a fluke (I was only running 50 watts into it!)

I've been playing for 8 years and have owned a few amps (Marshall valvstae head - yuck, Marshall TSL head - a little better, and my Bassman - mmmmmm.....Bassman). I've also owned a few cabs - Mesa 4x12 recto (good cab, but BIG and HEAVY), Bassman 2x12 (sounds good , but not nearly as tight and focussed as the THD, also quite big and heavy). If it were stolen or lost, I'd probably buy another, as this has been great, although I've been looking at getting a 4ohm Avatar cab for my Bassman, as I'm currently running an imedance mismatch.

This has to be one of the best sounding cabs I have ever encountered. So why tolex that tears if you rub it against a feather? Honestly, I have two of these - I like this cab a lot! But after a few months they look like I've had them for decades. If you hand truck your gear at all, these are going to look terrible within a short period of time. And I love the handle on top - until I need to slide the amp and cab over after I've set up. There is NOTHING to grab on to! I would love to see a handle on each end as well as the top.

As I said, the best sounding 2x12 I have ever owned. The bass port on the open back makes this thing sound HUGE. The only thing that sounds bigger that I have encountered is the THD 4x12 that is similarly designed.

This cab deserves a 10 without a doubt. But I'm going to have to strip all that cheesy tolex and put something else on there in not too long. This is supposed to be a premium cabinet (and tonewise, it certainly is) but I can get an Avatar cab with similar features that has a much better finish (although it probably wouldn't sound as good). So I have to reduce the score accordingly.

Big tone in a little package. Does it nail a 4x12 sound? Not exactly, but it feels a little like playing through a 4x12. All frequencies are present and none of them are harsh. An excellent solution for any musician playing a lot of club gigs.

I purchased this cab to go with my Flexi-50, but decided that I like it with my JTM-45 much better. I'm amazed out how "stadium-like" it sounds at low volumes and at how tight the low-end is for an open-back cab. I've paired it with a VHT 2x12 for a much more portable 4x12 unit, and a such makes a good match for my Marshall 1960A

I didn't rate this because it is just your standard cabinet; not many features on cabinet. I bought it new in 2002. Celestion CL-80 speakers. Wired for 8 ohms and clocks in at 160 watts. Has a parallel jack for daisy-chaining another cab into the signal path. It also has a semi-open "ported" back and a really nice, reset, metal handle in the top.

I use a PRS Custom 22 into a Bogner Uberschall 120 watt head. I play mostly hard rock, metal, progressive rock, some blues, jazz, classic rock, jam band type stuff, punk, etc... (Tool, Deftones, Incubus, Dream Theater, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Pink Floyd, The Doors, the list goes on and on). This cabinet holds up very well considering the amp I am using. The cab was intended to be used with THD's amps, which are not high gain-high power amps. Mine is very high gain-high power and the cabinet doesn't even flinch. It has nice bass response and the overall sound is smooth and pleasent. I would like to hear how it responds to a closed back or maybe a pair/mix of different speakers. The construction itself is fantastic. There is no distortion or "farting out" of the cabinet at all. It might go well with a Mesa 2x12 as a partner.

October 30, 2003. Brand new 212 cabinet with THD speakers, not the Celestions that THD used previously.
Setup: THD Univalve, Fender US Hardtail Strat, 212 cabinet.
The big surprise? It sounds great at LOW volume! It sounds great loud, of course. But the combination of the Univalve and the new 212 is so warm - you can screech Halen or Hendrix, then tone it down to a mellow Joe Pass.

Tried with: Parker Artist, 70s strat, "clapton blackie" strat, les paul 1960 reissue, Ibanez GB-10; Amps: boogie mk iv, THD bivalve, Fender Twin, Clarus 1r.
This cab does it all, and then some. Go buy one now! It sounds every bit as good, and even more spacious, than my high-end dedicated jazz cab; it positively screams and booms like a Marshall and sounds hands-down fuller than a Mesa.

I'm using this cab with a Univalve and a JB Sig Strat. I'm really thrilled with this cabinet! I've had my Univalve for about 9 months and had originally purchased a 2x12 Mesa Recto cab for it. It sounded okay, but I certainly didn't see what all the fuss was about over the Univalve. After reading a variety of reviews of the THD cab paired with the Univalve, I decided to take my guitar down to a local THD dealer and try it (with my own tubes in hand - 12AU7/5751/EL84YJ). It's astonishing how different the amp sounded - all the harsh fuzziness in the Rock channel were gone, and there was significantly more *chime* in the clean channel. Now I see what all the fuss is about...

I've been playing for about 24 years and have owned a *lot* of equipment - this is one of the best rigs I've had. Granted - I don't gig anymore, but I do record quite often in my home studio. The best thing about pairing the Univalve with the THD cab is being able to plug a Strat straight in and get a great sound - totally dry. Honestly, if you had told me 20 years ago that I'd find *tone heaven* in a 15watt amp with a 2x12 cab, I'd still be laughing - in front of my 100watt Marshall stack. Anybody want to buy a 2x12 Mesa Recifier cabinet?

I like to play all kinds of rock to jazz and blues. Mainly I gig hard rock and blues. It sounds spacious and "nice". If you're looking for great lead tones that are smooth or want to get a wonderful clean tone from a head. This cab is great. If you're looking for chunky, heavy rhythm with big bottom. This ain't it. The reviews can be misleading. It doesn't do the big bottom fat stuff as well as my recto 2x12. That thing is fat. This cab does much better for lead tones ala Eric Johnson and David Gilmour. Smooth, "polite" tones which are awesome. It has a tight bottom end and a smooth top end. Very nice for the right application. I have to give it a lower rating because their ads say it sounds like a 4x12 and it just doesn't. I think they could'a made the cab deeper for more lows or used thicker wood. Then this cab would be shittin' all over everything!

I love my old Marshall 4x12's but nowadays you don't really need that much. Plus it doesn't fit in the jeep. This is a great cab for blues, fusion or rock leads. It is a very musical cab. But, if you want giant low end fatness in a 2x12, the Mesa recto is hard to beat except of course by a good 4x12. If you want sweet, woody rhythms and leads, this is perfect! I've compared many 2x12's. It depends on what you're going for.

This is a new black tolex/tan grill cloth model with chemically aged
Celestion Classic Lead 80 speakers. I give it an 8 because it would be nice if it had a combo jack that allowed both mono and stereo operation. It is relatively lite and easy to handle. 160 watts power handling is more than enough.

I've used it with my Univalve and BiValve. This cab really kicks, with pleanty of bass "knock" quite comparable to a 4X12. Even the Univalve at 15 watts will easily keep up with a drummer. The sound is slightly warmer then my 2x12 with vintage 30's. It still shimmers, but is easier on the ears. I hooked a Custom Audio Amp 3+ SE and a VHT 2/90/2 to this thing and it was HUGE. The cab has alot of resonance. I've never heard this setup sound so good, and from only a 2x12. I think this cab will do ANY amp justice.

Late 2001 or early 2002 cab. Mine has a very funky paisley pattern covering(maroon, blue, purplish colors)-this is what initally drew me to it-very cool & sorta vintage-like. Large, well placed steel handle on top of cab. Tan, old looking grill cloth, nice. Celestion classic lead 80's inside. I think they're treated-sound very broken in, not like stiff new speakers. Ported back, maybe 2 inches or so. 2 input jacks(wired parallel-I think). Some people may prefer a stereo jack instead. Not neccessary in my current rig. Seems very sturdy and well constructed.

Amps that were used through this cabinet are as follows: THD Univalve,Rivera M100, Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb and 66 Bassman, 1960's VOX AC30 and VOX Berkley and Dr.Z 18 watt amp. Every amp sounded great through this cabinet. This cabinet bridges the gap between a 4x12 and an open back. I had previously used a 112 and couldn't get over the difference. The THD cabinet sounds much punchier, more open and creates more volume without being harsh.
