I bought it from Fred's Guitars(www.fredsguitar.com). It is a great amp for every style of music from jazz to blues to rock. It has one channel with very straight forward tone controls. My only wish would that it have reverb but that would change the circuit and it sounds so good I wouldn't want them change it. It clearly has sufficient power to play a small club.

There is a THD Hot Plate power attenuator built-in it and a line out for recording or going into the input of another amp.

Sound Quality : 10
With the single Russian El-34 and pair of 12AX7s it has amazing clean tone with killer sustain. It also has amazing blues tones with the drive turned up. And to top it off it has the greatest classic Plexi grind at levels so low your neighbors will never complain again. The Univalve's distortion is clear and smooth like it was processed through a $50k rack at a high end recording studio. It is truly an amazing sounding amp.

I am running the Univalve through a 2x12 Bogner cabinet with Vintage 30s using Tara Labs speaker connect and get tone that is beyond words! A 1999 Gibson '59 Les Paul reissue LPR9 and a HSH Suhr hollow Tele sound better than I have ever heard them through any other amp.

I would never sell my Bogner Shiva and I also would never be without the classic Fender 6L6 Deluxe clean tone either but the Univalve has created a whole new amp space for me.

Reliability : 10
It's built like a tank...quality components, precise wiring and solid construction. Just like in the case of a quality class A stereo amp, you can hear the difference in the care taken in laying out the audio path in the amp by the detail of the tone.

I spoke to Andy Marshal when I was hunting for a dealer with a Univalve in stock. Andy turned me on to Fred at Fred's Guitars and I had the amp in a couple of days. Andy was very cool to caht with and very helpful too. I would buy more of his amps and cabinets in a heart beat.

The UniValve has a two year transferable warranty.

Overall Rating : 10
Get a Bogner 2x12 and Univalve (maybe the THD cabinet) and plug in a John Suhr guitar and you will think you are in tone heaven... and this is at sound levels in your music room at home! Tone for the dollar it is the best buy on the planet.

I would definaelty buy another one if it was stolen.

the best way i can think of to describe this amp is:

y'know when you are sitting on the couch playing unamped and just KNOW how cool it should sound loud? this be that.

Reliability : 10
i feel i can depend on it, i will go out without a backup

This amp is unique. It is not the most feature-laden amp, but everything is there for a reason. It has the ability to use just about every popular power tube in use today, without re-biasing. Just put the amp in standby and change tubes (oven mitt recommended). This is a low power amp, running in pure class A mode, so no push-pull tube pairs are needed.

It doesn't have master volume for the preamp, but it does have a Hot Plate power amp attenuator to control the output, post power amp.

It has a line level (or guitar level) output that captures the true sound of the amp, useful to drive other equipment.

I hope the UniValve continues to evolve with more models. I would love to see a future model with:
- channel switching
- fancier EQ
- maybe an effects loop

Sound Quality : 10
This is why you should buy a UniValve. It sounds fantastic. Many amps can do the extreme saturated distortion thing (and this one is no exception), but nailing the clean-ish to crunchy territory is another matter altogether. The UniValve shines here.

This amp will be great in a recording context, where a large vocabulary of tones is required.

Reliability : 10
This amp is brand new, so the rating is speculation, but the thing is built like a tank. I haven't gigged with it.

It has a very dependable vibe, and THD has a good reputation.

Customer Support : 10
THD and Andy Marshall are the best: knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.

Overall Rating : 10
Amongst other setups, I have a Rivera-based stereo combo system, as well as a fairly elaborate Mesa-based stereo rack system. These are both really great, but the UniValve is sitting next to my mixing console, for dialing up a tone quickly, and getting it recorded.

The UniValve can be used as a tone factory for recording, as an idealized practice amp (think perfect Fender Champ on steroids), or for small venue gigs.

Really useful. Really fun.

I posess a number of vintage amps, (AC30's, Orange, Marshalls, Hiwatt) and never found anything better. That was until I heard THD's new Univalve. What an amazing piece of equipment! The interchangeable tubes make it the most versatile amp I've ever heard, and its build in hotplate means you can use it as a pre, to go direct into a console, or to drive other heads. It sounds totally amazing, from warm and clean to heavy and dirty.

Sound Quality : 10
can't fault it at all - and I don't say that lightly.
It simply will do everything, every style, and do it better

I have one of their hotplates, never had a reason to call them for support. We did need a couple more once, and they shipped them direct to us, we had them the next morning.
