60's Japanese tube amp
Volume, Treble, Bass, Tremolo Depth, Tremolo Speed
3 tubes: 12AX7 (preamp), 6AV6 (trem), 6AQ5A (power)
Solid State Rectifier
12" speaker! Very lightweight amplifier.

I estimate this amp puts out 1 or 2 watts. The PERFECT bedroom/home volume. Still louder than you'd think!

I like 'basic' in my amp design and have a heavy preference for older tube amps.

Sound Quality : 10
This amp sounds GREAT! I found it in, of all places, Guitar Center. They were asking $249. I plugged in a Telecaster and it was immediately the best sounding amp in the place. I turned it all the way up and I could tell the volume would be perfect for home.

I'm a big fan of '40's, '50's and '60's tube amps, and this stands with the best I've heard. It seems like an obscure amp. I found only one other reference on the Net. The 6AQ5A power tube, solid state rectifier and 12" speaker are a great match.

When I took the back off I was pleased to discover the 12AX7 was a Telefunken smooth plate! Nice bonus.

Reliability : 10
Very simple design, and as long as you have access to a tube amp repairman, or a knowledge of very simple tube-based amps, you should be fine. There was a schematic pasted inside the back cover.

This was quite a nice find. I'd like to know more about the 'Tempo' company. If I found this amp again, I'd buy it just to have a spare.

60's Tempo amp with 3 tubes 1-12axz,1-6bq5, 1-6v6 with treble, bass and volume control, and one channel made in Japan. This thing can really sound "hot" when you crank this thing up. Great for recording or miked live.

Sound Quality : 10
I am using an Ibanez with single pole and humbucker pickups. This amp really screams with the humbucker. I can get a good "Fender" overdrive sound with the single pole pickups.

Can't find any info on this amp or company.

I have been playing bass and guitar for 29 years. I have boutique digital switching bass and guitar amps that cost thousands and I have to say there really is something special about an old small tube amp at maxed volume and this Tempo amp proves it. Its very simple and light. Would buy again if it disapeared.
