I've owned lots of high end 2x12 cabs (Dr. Z, THD, Germino, Bogner oversize, Jenkins Hwy 61, Two-Rock Large and small, Tone Tubby oval port) and Mark's cab is truly one of the very best - lightweight with superb build quality (dovetail corner joints, finished interior, separate mounted holders for the speakers wires, high quality speaker wire). The cab sounds broken in right out of the box, exceptionally balanced, smooth and full throughout the frequency range and has a wonderful give when you hit it hard. The spread is three dimensional and huge as is the cab which is almost entirely open back and has a ported front, and a slanted baffle which angles the speakers upwards.

The speakers are rated at 60 watts each and have hemp cones - Mark told me they are designed to have the mids and lows of an old greenback, with the top end of an Alnico speaker. They are also designed to get darker/smoother when you hit them hard. Many of the cabs I have owned work really well for clean OR distorted tones, or do average on both. This cab sounds stunning with both tones - thick, creamy and spongy with a Soldano Avenger, and tight, punchy and sparkly with the Meteor.

Mark doesn't make too many 2x12 cabs as his customers seem to prefer the combo's but I highly recommend anyone in the market for a nice 2x12 to check his stuff out (he does them in black, brown, cream, I think he will do whatever color you want) - these cabs are so underrated, simply because there aren't that many out there, but I think if more guys were able to compare the Tone King to the Dr. Z, Bogner, THD etc cabs they would be pleasantly surprised. This cab works well with Fender and modded Marshally hi gain tones but I also think it would be a perfect match for a Fuchs or Two-Rock with its wide, blanaced bandwidth. At $600 these are cheaper than many of the high end cabs mentioned and the construction is equal to if not better. I don't know if I would pick this cab for metal or real aggressive stuff, but for blues/jazz/rock and even heavy rock tones it excels.
