for my needs as a harp and a guitar( blues and americana roots rnr and old school r&b( not rapcrap), this speaker did in fact exclude some top shrill shimmer whatever that comes from an ear piercing "too clean" fender type of guitar amp. its not for the ear bleeding crowd, but for blues, jazz, rockabilly, old school rocknroll ( not 70s-90s crap). this is a dream speaker. if you have a solidstate amp, get a radioshack speaker....this is for the pros

Reliability : 10
OH YEAH....built like a rock...no need to worry bout it breaking down, period.

who needs 'em?, unless you want to buy more TT speakers.

Overall Rating : 10
playing 40 years, would buy again if need be
im a huge fan of webervst speakers...i like the celestion blue alot...the italian jensens just suck, period. old stock USA jensens are way overpriced, unless you hang them on your walls for showpieces.
Eminences are good too.

I got this in a Crate V30 and took it out before I sold it.I used it in 3 tube amps and it still sounded too fat.Hotrod deluxe,AC 15 and a Rivera R30.

Sound Quality : 5
Sounded Ok dirty but not good clean...Really fat and middy.Sounded like a blanket over my amp.Lows where not tight.

Reliability : 5
I would not use this in anything over 30 watts.Looks well made.

Customer Support : 1
Dunno...too expensive to recone anyway.

Overall Rating : 5
I've been playin over 35 years as a pro.Thats all I do.I love EVs and some Celestions.Eminence Texas heat and Tonkers are awsome too.I like the legend series. This speaker must sound good somewhere but not in every situation.I play clean a lot.Teles and Strats and Gretch"s.I also have a few Gibson Archtops. There is no snap in this speaker.I think this is made for Distorto guys that never play more than two finger power chords with scooped mids.It makes a great door stop when you wanna bring your PA into a club.

Having played my first gig for money in 1972, I have been doing this a while, owned lots of amps, dozens of guitars - I think by now I have developed a pretty good ear for tone. I currently own two Andys, a pre-factory PRS, several old gibsons and a tele. My amps are primarily Victoria and Fender. I bought one of these to try out on a newly rebuilt '66 Princeton Reverb. This speaker is very efficient, very loud, tons of tight bottom end and punchy midrange. Where the speaker falls short is in the high end. It's creamy and smooth (and that may be some peoples tonal nirvana), but it really lacks the high end fendery sparkle. If you think a Les Paul into an early Marshall is your idea of tone bliss - this may be your speaker. If you like Fendery jangle in the high end, and occasionally like the spank of a nice tele - THIS IS NOT YOUR BEST CHOICE, and frankly, I dont understand the hype. I learned an expensive lesson.

quality is top notch

Never dealt with Brown Soun, doubt I would buy another one anyway....
I've dealt plenty with Ted Weber in the past, and I feel bad I didnt do it again this time...sorry Ted.

As I said, I own lots of gear loaded with old Jensens, new Jensens, alnico Jensens, Alnico Weber's, and celestian greenbacks. I have lots to compare right in my basement. I love Webers, I love Jensens. As a typical gearhead, I had to try a Tubby based on all the print these are getting. Gibson/Marshall guys might find this the holy grail... These just are not, and would not be my choice. I'll probably replace it with a Jensen C12N or a nice Weber. An expensive lesson indeed. But as anyone reading this knows- it aint the first, and it wont be the last mistake in that never ending quest for the ultimate tone. Happy Hunting.

Awesome green paint and a cool sticker on the back.....like any of that really matters....
Big friggin magnet structure, stout basket.

Sound Quality : 10
I have a Crate V3112 (all tube, Class A) amp. I play a modified Standard Strat with handwound pick-ups. I compared my amp to the same model with a plain celestion in it. I set all the settings the same on both amps and A/B'd them. HUGE difference!!! Much tigher mids and lows and the highs are smooth with clarity. Killer tone for any style music, in my opinion.

Reliability : 9
I only turn up enough to hear get good tone.....the mic and PA's take care of the rest. Should last forever.....

No problems yet.....

I have been playing guitar for 20+ years. Currently with Kelli*Said.
I own too much gear to list...lol. My influences are in the realm of Satriani, Vai, Bonomasa, Stevie Ray, Hendrix, etc....
Yes, if it got stolen I would buy it again.
Before to buy a new amp or modify it, try these!

I can't believe the person that gives a 4 for features in a speaker?
It's a speaker!!

Sound Quality : 9
At a buddies house played a Gibson SG > Carvin Legacy > Traynor 2x12 closed back with ceramic Tone Tubbies.
Compared to my buddy's Legacy 4x12 with V30s, my cab had just as much lowend punch with smooth mids and highs. As another poster said, all controls on the amp actually changes the sound. Very responsive.
My rig is a Hughes & Kettner Access pre >various effects in series and parallel > Peavey Classic 50/50 > running a mono rig with a 1x12 alnico Tone tubby and the 2x12 cab.

Planning on using these two cabs with a Randall RT2/50 with the 6L6 side going to the alnico for cleans and EL34 2x12 ceramic for gain.

The ultimate rig would be to add two more identical 2x12 cabs as 'wets' in a wet/dry/wet rig.

Reliability : 10
Had ceramics for about three months. No issues at all.

I also have the alnico version, which is what Eric and Carlos use (not ceramic), in an open back 1x12 Mesa cab.

Amp Crate VFX5212 brand new! $1200 Can
Cermaic Tone Tubby's were original stock speakers in this amp.
I can actually here the difference with the tone settings and presence as opposed to other amps that dont do anything when you adjust the Treb, Bass and Mid.

Awsome warm smooth tone with the distortion. I can also get a nice edge and crucnh as well. Clean sound with these speakers was the best I have ever had. I guess sound is subjective but I am comparing
other amps I have owned, Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier with a Marshall 1936 Cab, Marshall DSL100 - 1960A 4x12, Fender hot Rod Deville, Peavey classic 50.

Reliability : No Opinion
Just bought this amp with the Tone Tubby's so I can't say yet!

Customer Support : 9
Quick Response from an email question I sent.

Overall Rating : 10
So far better than any other Celestions I have owned.

I would definitely recommend these speakers. I also beleive sound is also affected by the type of amp and how you tweek it. I have been playing for 20yrs so I think I have enough experience to rate these speakers. I live in Canada and love the fcat they are made in the USA and not China like Celestions. BTW my Crate VFX5212 is also made in the US :)

i put this speaker into a peavey classic 30 1x12 amp. i was looking to smooth out the sound a little. this really does smooth out the sound. makes this little crap amp very musical. i was going to get rid of this amp in favor of a more expensive one. i use a clapton strat vintage noiseless model. i have read a few bad reviews about this speaker, but i absolutely love the sound change. the clean is so much rounder and warmer. Did i mention that this amp really sings now, some real sustain, clean or dirty. it seems to open up my amp tonal wise, i can hear the different frequencys so much better.

Reliability : No Opinion
its a speaker. it is reliable in the sense that it lived up to it's claims.

none needed, shipping and delivery was very prompt.

i have been playing for 18 years. influenced by jazz, blues, rock. my main infleunces are gilmour, hendrix, srv, clapton, ford, haynes, santana, allmans etc... anything that is a nice soulful tune. i have owned a tone of gear and can afford to buy more. this amp was my college amp. i dug it out of the closet recently. i have always liked its el84 sound but found it to be lacking due to the price range. i was going use it for a practice amp. i have since found that with the tone tubby and new tubes this amp is a real bang for the buck. this speaker is the price of a nice pedal think of it in that value sense. i really got lucky with this choice. amp 250 used, speaker 155, dicovering tone tubby, priceless.

Ceramic Hemp Cone Speaker

Sound Quality : 5
I don't understand all of the fuss over thos speaker. To me it sounds thin and sterile. I noticed that another reviewer in the "Hemp Cone" section said the same thing and sent his back. "Average" is about all I can give this amd I have A/B tested it against a bunch of different Celestion, Eminence, and JBL models. I couldn't find one that is sounded better than! I know that Eric, Rev. Billy, and Carlos all use this brand and that is why I gave it a try but, to me, it just doesn't sound good. I broke it in for several days with a stereo at moderate volumes but still no magic.
TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!

Reliability : 8
Seems well made but not overbuilt.

These guys are nice and expensive. Talked with them about a re-cone one time and they were very helpful but the price was $200 plus!

Overall Rating : 5
Been playing 35 years plus and have tried many different speakers. These just don't do it for me. Be careful and try one first before you plunk down your money. I really wanted to like this speaker but had to be objective about what I heard when I pluged in. Would NOT buy again.

Hemp cone, green basket, coil, a couple of terminals. American-made. Not a whole lot of "features," but, hey, it's a speaker.

Sound Quality : 10
I replaced the stock Eminence driver in my Hot Rod Deluxe with one of these things and it made a huge, massive, overwhelming difference. Between that and retubing it with some JJ 6L6s, I have a different amp -- an amp that sounds like two grand, rather than five hundred bucks. If your tone is lacking. If your lows are farty or flabby. If you want some hemp 'mojo,' get a Tone Tubby and stick it in your cab!

Reliability : No Opinion
Too early to tell, but I hear they're great.

The guys at A Brown Soun are fantastic. Great on the phone and via e-mail. It was nice to dial the number and hear a real human voice (and guitars in the background) rather than a series of computer prompts.

Overall Rating : 10
Fantastic, so far. Just as described.

40 watt tone tubby ceramic magnet speaker. hemp cone with treated cone. 8-ohms. 12" speaker with massive 50 oz. magnet

Sound Quality : 9
sounds like a celestion g12h on steroids. strong lows , clear mids and smooth highs. made in usa unlike celestion speakers that are made in china now. fxxk china speakers. these usa hempcone speakers are clearly a quality product made in USA. using marshall, ampeg or several other amps have all sounded good. the ceramic magnet provides better focused distorted tone than alnico.

Reliability : 10
i had 1 40-watt tt and 1 celestion vin 30 60-watt hooked up to my 100 watt marshall artiste head and smoke came from the chinese celestion vin 30! when a 40 watter is more durable than a 60 watter i'd say that the tt is reliable. i've abused them at full volume and the tt 40 watters are still in perfect shape.

Customer Support : 9
usa made speakers usually do not need customer support. they are in usa so if i ever need a re-cone they are easy to find. i bought mine from a dealer in california.

Overall Rating : 9
the only other speakers that i like are weber's and they sound great mixed with the tt hempcone speakers.
