This is a 99 Emplexador that was recently brought up to 2000 specs. New face plate and switch mods. It is a 2x KT66 model not quite 100W (thank God. High and low input, vintage and modern voicing switch, boost switch, fat switch, master, gain, treble, mid, bass, presence. Point to Point wired, line out, passive fx loop. This is basically a plexi that has been brought up to date. Best possible components and the traditional mods (fx loop, mastervol and extra gain stage)

This amp replaced a bogner shiva (that had replaced a VHT 50CL that had replaced a Marshall 30th ann that had replaced a 70's jmp that had replaced.....) The KT66's are HUGE sounding. big and fat with lots of complexity. The amplifier is perfect for my playing style. It produces tone and allows you to control dynamics with your volume control/pick attack. The amp grabs a note easily and will hang on to it for as long as you want. Easy to push into a controlled feedback. It does a great thick rhythm sound as well as a screaming lead od sound. It would not work well for the player that needs a pristine clean sound or for country playing. It is just fun to play. Some people have comared the amp to the bogner XTC 2nd channel although I think the tone is way more organic than the bogner. It is the difference between hearing a great tone on a CD (bogner) and hearing that same sound in person (Tophat). I give it an 8, on a scale of 1-8.

Point to point. Bias control on the top by the tubes. This think will out live me by many years.

I traded for this amp. After having it for a little while I called Brian at the shop and asked him how much to update it and just make sure that it was all together. He changed everything over to the new cosmetics and made all of the modifications and then took the time to taylor the fat switch to my liking. All for 130.00, geez this guy is under charging! I really can't say enough good about Tophat and about Brian. He is genuinely a nice guy that really cares about the product that he is making.

I have been playing since I got up this morning and my fingers are tired. I would pruchase this or any other tophat product in the future. No hype just tone.
