Tis Tophat is based on the same desing as the Club Deluxe. The difference being the use of 6L6 power tubes instead of 6V6 tubes used in the Club Deluxe. THis gives the amp more power, a bit more headroom.
The control layout is as follows:
two inputs
bright / normal/ fat switch
volume
treble
midd
bass
cut
master volume
stanby switch
on /off switch

The controls are simple, no a lot of bells and whistles, but very effective.

Sound Quality : 10
I use this amp with an assortment of guitars. Fender Teles, G&L ASATs, Fender Strats, Gibson LP, Hamer Newport, Hamer Monaco Elite all sound great through this amp. The tone is very articulate and evry note and nuance from the guitar comes through.
It does not have a lot of super clean headroom and at gigging volume levels there is always a bit of "grit" in the tone. I particulary like that but if your looking for Fender Twin like clean this isn't your amp. This amp is alos not a metal players amp at all.
If you play country, blues, classic rock etc. this amp will shine for you.
It loves any pedal that you put in front of it and just sounds great!

Reliability : 9
The amp is all PTP constructed and built like a tank. The only problem I've had is a preamp tubes that went microphonic. But that can happen to any amp. The wsy it is made, should a problem arise, it would be easy for any competent amp tech to work on it.
I would gig with it without a backup amp but I wouyld always have spare tubes on the job.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Brian at Tophat has a great reputation for his support service. I have not had to use him so I really have no opinion.

Overall Rating : 10
I really like this amp. I bought it based on my experience with a Tophat Club Royale that I own. Tophat are great sounding reliable amps. I presently own several vintage and new Fender amps, a Vox AC30, Peavey classic 30, mesa Maverick. and a Marshall JCM 800. But when I gig its the Tophat that go with me. It the tone I want.
