This amp rocks, I've had it for 1 day, found it in a hock shop with 799au dollars on it and got it for 525.00. Valves what can I say! I don't now what year it is made but want to know. I play in a three piece band so I need a good clear solid sound and this baby gives it up! I play in both funky and hard rock jams and bands and reckon this is a professional machine. Can do anything. Only bummer is it can break a bullocks back it's so heavy. But worth the lug! For 200 watts 2 x 10 power with horns this is a good enough amp for most pub gigs. If you need more it has an extra speaker out plus it's only one box. Stoked with it in 24 hours.

I'm playing a Pbass copy. It's a good copy and the amp delivers a very true pick up sound. Can do about any style of music. Has a little hum when not being played but that just sounds cool. This thing cranks with preamp valve and enough settings and shapings that include eq and more.

Only had it one day and it hasn't stopped. So 7 cause it's a valve amp.

Overall I 've played 6 string guitar for 17 years but have just stepped up to the bass. For my first bass amp I don't see me ever needing another one unless I have to play Festival Hall in Melbourne.

The amp is a pre-Gibson (by some way!) trace elliot - probably close on 'vintage' by now. I know they discontinued these around '93, though I'm not sure when they started making them. In terms of "TE Chronololgy" these came after the series 6 and before the SM/SMX series.
The amp features a 200W power amp, 12 band graphic, tube preamp section, FX loop, Balanced DI, & Noise reduction. The cab includes not just 2 10" speakers, but 2 5" horns as well - with adjustable volume for the horns!!
Cosmetically it's a beast - it looks great with an unusual chromed faceplace (none of the black & green Trace look here) - it has two carrying handles, which you'll need cause it weighs over 100lbs!!
Although it doesn't have the compressor that the SMX series does, I actually own the footpedal version...and to be honest, I like the sound better without the pedal! Maybe it's the tube pre that does some gentle compressing anyway, but I think this is a luxary that I can live without - even the preamp is forgiving of clipping!
Great feature set - no omissions that I care about (though the illumination offered on later TEs would have been nice)
Although the later Trace Elliots often

I play a Yamaha BB1500 - not an esoteric bass by anymeans, but one that I chose ahead of a similarly priced MM Stingray back in the day - strangely the yamaha really kicked the MM's butt (IMO - though in fairness, this bass does have the circuitry of the Nathan East basses I think, which is hardly shabby!!)
The sound is terrific - plenty of growl, smoothness, funky snappiness, or warm, deep rumbling. The graphic is very versatile, the mid-shape options are helpful, and the thing sounds phenomenal!!

Have had some problems - the first one I had (in the UK) had a power problem, and the one I just got on ebay arrived with the power supply to the preamp gone bad. Hard to say how much of this is Trace's fault, but they were helpful when they still existed. I wouldn't expect Gibson to have ever heard of this model though!!
