i have owned 2 trace elliot amps, 1 standard combo and the super tramp twin, plus many other named brands and i must say that there's no amp with a better clean tone that i have played through, not the best metal sounding amp but no big bickie if your using peddles for the job. cause of the good clean tones and the tubes, i have found it a blessing when it comes to using stomp boxes and effects processes and find it easy to make the tones work for all styles of music. i play in a hard rock/metal band + i do a lot of solo gigs requiring a lot of different tones and i will not have any other amp on stage with me.
always best to mic the amp on stage since using a DI box takes to much of the sound quality away from the amp

2000-ish, Clean Channel, Dirty Channel, EQ, Reverb, and Presence... pretty straightforward standard stuff. Enough knobs and choices to have good sound-shaping control, but not too many as to be confusing or complicated in the heat of battle. for 80w, this thing packs a SERIOUS punch.

It sounds good everywhere, on just about every setting. Even when im trying to dial in a crappy sound for gits and shiggles, its nowhere to be found. I generally use either an Italian Galanti Grand Prix or an Ibanez Jetking 1 through a bigmuff and delay.
What can i say? it sounds wonderful. I can cut through any mix with it. Ive been playing through it for about 6 months now and it always delivers the goods. All the charms of a Fender Twin without the tubes or pricetag.
I used this for our theatre show, and when i kicked on the fuzz i nearly came my panties, lordy it sounded so damn good.
every other amp ive owned (including a marshall JCM-900, oddly) is put to shame by this rig. not bad for a little 80-watt solid state 2x12.

I think this amp was made in 2000. I know it was before Gibson bought them out. It was made in England. It is 100 watts rms (200 peak - so it says on the back) so it has a enough power for any gig. It has two 12" Celestions. Two channels, reverb, a boost with separate gain, giving you "three" channels. Includes a very solid footswitch. I'm into playing alt-rock, like pixies and modest mouse but also like an amp to scream when needed. This definately screams! It has an amazing sounding distortion which is very much adjustable because you can blend both tube distortion with FET (transistor) distortion.

This is not like any other transistor amp I've heard. First, because it's not fully transistor - it does have one tube inside, a 12ax7. I believe this is only for the gain stage for distortion but not sure. The second reason why this amp is unique to other transistor amps is because it doesn't use any of those IC chips (no integrated circuits - it's all discrete) and uses only FET transistors which react much like a tube does with audio. The other great thing about this amp is in it's tone section. It's completely passive, meaning it doesn't color the sound of your guitar in an artificial way. The tones are natural and subtle, like tube amps with their passive tone circuitry. The overall sound of this amp is hard to compare to one other kind of amp. To me, it's more of a marshall sound than a fender. It's very quiet, no hiss, but doesn't give you that sterile clean sound a typical transistor amp can give. There's a thickness in it's tone and it's got a huge range of distortion that no fender could achieve, let alone some marshall. This has definately a rock sound to it. It's reverb is not fender twin sounding at all. again, much more like a marshall reverb - if you know the difference.
I have a usa fender strat plus and a custom guitar that has seymour duncan phat cat (p-90) and seymour duncan sh-6. Both great pickups by the way.

This amp is built like a tank. I've had no problems with it yet. The wood is like and inch and a half - solid! The tolex is not as sturdy as other textured tolex and so it's accumulated a few small tears here and there.

I've been playing for about 22 years and was looking for a transistor amp because of their road-worthy reliability but before this, never found one that had that tube "sound" and "feel". In their manual, they even talk about speaker dampening, something I have found is only ever discussed with tube amps. This company went to great lengths to design something that can be truely compared with the tone of tube amps. And I'm greatful for that. Tube amps are not only costly to maintain (repairs and/or if you want optimum sound quality) but tubes are very very harmful to the environment to create. That is one of the reasons they are now only made in foriegn countries - because it is too costly with all of the air regulations in the U.S. Something to think about...

I'm very excited about this amp because it was designed to sound/respond like a tube amp. It's circuit is a discrete design(meaning, it does not use any integrated circuits like op-amps) using FETs (Field Effect Transistors) which DO have tube-like characteristics. They also use passive tone circuits, like tube amps, so that the amp is not coloring the sound of the guitar. It is a hybrid, so it does have one 12ax7 tube inside. I've replaced mine with a groove tube for better tone, but the stock one didn't sound that bad either. It has two 12" celestion speakers, and two channels and a boost. So, it's almost as if it has three channels: clean, distortion and over-the-top distortion.

This amp sounds like a tube amp if not better because the sound is consistent. I use my amp a lot and I rely on maintaining the same sound night after night. This does. With my tube amps, especially if one of the tubes are starting to go, the sound can be inconsistent. It's 100 watts are plenty. The clean channel is not a fender-sparkling clean. It's more like a Marshall clean tone. Same as the distortion. This amp is very british sounding. I love the distortion sounds. Creamy, and very well defined, musical sounding distortion. And the boost on the distortion just sends it over the top, too much for my tastes but perhaps good for metal. The guitar I use is an american strat plus with gold lace sensors and I have another that has high output humbuckers. Both sound great but respond differently through the amp.

2 channel, clean and dirty with od boost, effect loop, reverb, 1 12ax7 in the preamp section. Most of what you could want. The channel switching and boost is confusing to use, and the 2 button footswitch (stock?) was not labeled.
The amp I have had more standard g12-65 Celestions in place of the stock (greenbacks?),and non-stock wires to the speaker, so some previous owner swapped out the original speakers.

I owned this amp for a short time, I bought it at a pawn shop and just recently resold it. I tested it with a Mexi strat and a Hamer SSII. The cleans are pretty good, it's not a fender twin, but it has good useful clean tones. The slightly dirty tones are very good; picture 'wind crys mary' from Hendrix or SRV, to my ear it nails those tones (with bridge and middle pup on the strat). The open back cabinet doesn't have much low-end, the bass knob has no added effect over 5, I'm sure an extension cab would show lots of low end.
I would not consider this amp for hard rock, punk, or metal of any kind, as the higher gain tones are pretty thin and buzzy. But for blues rock with relatively low gain and a strat, it's a great amp.
The 7 rating is because this amp has limited versatility. It does do the low-gain strat thing really-really well.

This one obviously had a hard life before I got it, some of the corners were bent, and the cabinet had a crack along an upper edge, the cabinet could be shifted slightly from side to side, -so it took a big fall at some point. It worked great for me, quiet and no knob noise.

I've been playing for about 20 years, I'm kind of a gear-whore, I collect and buy/sell/trade a lot of stuff. I've got about 5 other amps right now: '74 Fender twin, Fender ConcertII, 5150, tech21 t-60, '72 Ampeg vt-40.
I was tempted to keep this amp, those low gain strat tones are addictive. If I didn't have so darn much stuff, I'd keep this one for what it does well.
Not much versatility, pretty good cleans, good features, great low-gain overdrive w/ a strat, crappy for high gain.

The way I got this amp is story in itself. I saw it on http://www.eig.nl a online musicstore in Nijmegen Holland. They had a picture of a 2005-model Supertramp with one Celestion Vintage 30 in it. I bought it within seconds. Three days later a huge box was delivered at my doorstep and as soon as I opened it I saw they had made a mistake. Instead they sold me the 2005 Supertramp with one Celestion they sold me the Supertramp Twin model 2001. It was in good shape and there were only minor scratches on the green toolex and footswitch that came with it. I plugged in turned up the volume of my guitar and decided I didn't mind at all I bought a five year old model.
I mailed the store that they sold me the wrong amp and a nice manager called back a day later. It was their webmaster who had made the mistake. It was a 4 year old demo-model they had used in the store for about 1 year and they had made a very reasonable price after nobody had any interest in it. New price ? 700 and now ? 298. The webmaster had copied and pasted the photo from the Trace Elliot website.
For the music I play (Blues, Rock and Rythm & Blues) it offers a wide spectrum of sounds. I use it at home and with the houseband of my employer during rehearsals and gigs. The power it delivers is LOUUUUUUDDDDD and it cuts thrue very easy.
The features like channels? You can read that in early reviews

I bought the amp after I restored my Stratocaster. I have a Strat that has a strange serialnumber: I0003486. Limited number of these "I" series guitars were made in '89/'90. They were made for the export market and have Made in USA stamped on neck heel. I removed the stock pickups and replaced them with Fat 50's. After getting rid of the original finish (a sort of thick black polyester) and replacing it with automotive metalpaint and a thin clear finish it sounded awesome. The tone just had room to breath and de sustain improved dramaticly. I just can't understand why Fender gives the Standards the polyester finish. It's stupid!
With my axe plugged in the amp she provides me all kind of sounds that impresses everybody who hears them. I like to play Bluessongs like Sweet Home Chicago, I'm Tore Down and Need Your Love So Bad and both crunch as clear sounds are amazing!
When I turn up the clearchannel is gets that Bluesbreaker sound you from songs like All Your Love and Steppin Out.
The amp itself isn't noisy at all and if I didn't know I would have thought it was a ? 2500 tubeamp. No kidding at all.

Well a strange story after a strange buy. After my mail about the wrong amp the manager of Eig called me back and made excuses for sending me a far superior amp too the amp I first ordered. OK, it had been used as a demo but it looked like new, it sounded awesome and it's far better than the single Supertramp. I'm happy with it and to make things up Eig send me a set new D'Addario strings. Thanks!

I play guitar for about 30 years but there were times I didn't touch it for years. Played in small local bands. I'm no Clapton, Hendrix or Steve Vai. The only thing I think I'm good at is that my tone is clear and I think I'm able to put my soul on the table. Slow bluessolo's. That's my thing.
This amp is all I ever needed. Small, great sound and it looks good too. The only missing thing? I would like to use a headphone on the amp. My neighbours would like it too.

Bought this thing from new about ten years ago. Mine is one of the earlier ones that doesn't have a tube preamp. Green Tolex and black trimmings with black knobs. Its definately a versatile amp, I play a US fender strat, a Mex tele, and an epiphone Nighthawk and LP through it and the variety of tones that its capable of is really quiet good. It doesnt have that ear-pitching tiny treble that you'll find in Fender Hot Rods etc, but thats not really what I'm after anyway. Clean tone is really warm. Distortion has two stages and can go from a light overdrive to a chunky, semi-metal distortion. The humbuckers in the LP and nighthawk help it churn out heavier distortion when needed, but when I'm with the band I usually use my tele with the lighter stage of distortion to give it plenty of balls but with a nice clarity. I've gigged this amp for the past 9 years and its easy load enough for bar gigs etc. I had a gig off the back of a truck outside once and it never got turned past 4 and had a great punchy sound with heaps of presence. Reverb is quite good too.

I play mainly blues based rock stuff (aerosmith style stuff). This amp is right on for this music and compliments all my guitars nicely. I also plug my ovation acoustic in and it sounds pretty damn good also. I dont find it to be noisy at all and when compared to my old Fender M80 and some other amps ive had it really kicks ass. I rate its sound quality over most Marshalls of a similar size. Only thing it doesnt really do sound-wise is (as above) the ear-pitching trebles that you'll get from all valve amps, but you dont get the kick ass dostortions and sustains with those amps; the trace does them well. Plenty of variety in sounds. You can get a more sinthetic metal distortion if you scoop the mid range but other than that this amp sounds like an amp should. Not a synthesized/digital sounding amp at all. It has all the warmth of an old amp and the Celestion Vintage 30s that it packs are a great match.

If I was to buy another bigger amp, I'd go for another trace. They hit the sweetspot for me with the analogue warmth and sturdy construction. Distortions are exactly what I want live and very flexible. I have a digitech effects rack that has a mountain of effects that are all really good quality but I hardly use them coz I just like the raw sound of my amp more! Using different guitars gives a good variety of tones through it also. Paid 1200 AUD which was sticker price and wasnt cheap but its definately been worth every penny.

I'ts now been almost two years since I bought this amp, and I still love it. My '89 std Jap strat with EMG DG-20 setup is my main guitar, but sometimes I use an Ibanez RG 55 too, which, by the way I would happily trade for a tele, even a lower end one. As far as pedals, I almost always use a boss DD-2 for slight delay effects, and sometimes a 535q wah, an Ibanez sc-10 chorus and a johnson fifties tremolo, (good cheap boss substitute). The clean on this thing is great, it definitely isn't a fender tube sound, but much better than any peavey of the same ilk. It can get pretty clean, though it does naturally have some dirt to it. But all the same, maybe I've just gotten better as a player, but the clean sound on this thing is pretty warm, and very articulate. The dirty is very versatile. I can go from an older tubey over drive( think older marshall sound) to a pretty hot rodded dirty sound. It doesn't quite do the heavy low end recto sound, but it can be decent for that. Of course, a strat isn't an extremely botton heavy guitar, and I don't tune down(except for occasional drop-D). But the distortion actually sounds like an amp. Yes that's right an amp. Not a polished multi FX processor sound, but an amp. It can be a little rough, a little too bright or muddy, but it's kind of like looking at an attractive girl with some flaws as opposed to one who looke like Jessica simpson, the super model may be better looking at first, but the normal looking girl is more attractive to me in the end. If that didn't make sense, I'm sorry, I'm tired, and poor.

A great budget amp. I've been playing almost 5 years now, so I'm definitely not a beginner, although when I see other people play, I still feel like one sometimes. This thing is loud enopugh to compete with a drumset, though in a band when the other guy(s) are playing 1/2 stacks, it might not be loud enough. I just finished my second year studying music, so I mostly play classical, but I love to play everything from Dire straits, to metallica to AIC to some jazz to my own wacky wierd dissonant music. I don't have a band, but am looking to start one, gve me a shout if you're in the Anch AK area. Anywya, I am poor, like most college students, so the $400 I paid for this amp has been well spent.

When i first bought this amp I was playing a Yamaha EG 112 (a pretty crappy strat style copy) and the amp really made this guitar sound nice. But when I bought my ESP EX-102 the high gain pickups (Duncan Design 102's) do not work very well with this amp. I find that the amp can't produce low sounds with trebly pickups.
The amp has a nice tone on clean but when you hit the gain and gain boost the amp is pretty noisy. I find that the tone of the amp can be pretty harsh although you can't expect too much warmth from a pre-amp valve.

I still maintain that it is good for clean playing though so if your not into fat 70's rock like me..it should pretty decent
