I just happen to find this site while doing some research on the Tranor 4x12 cabinet. I got mine for free from my friends room mate while they were getting evicted on Ney Year,s eve. I was impressed with the sound quality (running an ADA pre/Mos Valve 250 watt power amp).Previously using a Peavey 4x12 and a friends Marshall 4x12.I went on tour with this band(JBIC) who needed a bass player.I brought the Traynor cab along cuz the guitarist/singer had his equipment taken because he owed some cash to a local loan shark.Anyway the Traynor's sound really cut through.Built tough it fell out of the van broke the drummer's foot ,had beer spilt all over it.Great half stack.I dont know or remember the serial # on it. But from some researching on Yorkville's site, it's vintage,I think? Its grey w/black tweed front grill with the Traynor logo on the front. I dont know the model number either.

Sound Quality : 10
The first thing I noticed w/the cab was the way the sound cuts through compared to the Peavey and Marshall 4x12 cab I used to run run a ADA MP-1 preamp and Mos Valve power amp.As well as the rich tones.Going deaf never felt so good.

Reliability : 10
great cabinet rugged. I also have a set of Tranor YSC-8 6x12 PA speaker cabinet. Equally as rugged. Playing in a punk rock band we tend to break things. Tranor was one of few things that can handel the riggors of the road.

Just checking the info on line.

Overall Rating : 10
I got it for free so on my end thats value. Would I buy it in a store. Probablly not, because I nor anyone else I know has ever heard or seen a Traynor amp. Since I have one I would definitly recomend it. I normally wouldn't waste my 2 hours (cuz I cant type) to make a testimonial but the Tranor 4x12 cab was definitely worth writing for.

my 4-12 traynor cab is model number yc-412, (Yorkville Cab.-4x12) made in march 1971 by yorkville sound. it's 8ohms wired in series parallel. it's front loaded with 4 altec 417-8h's. i didn't know this when i bought the cab for $75 at my local pawn shop....but it was a pleasant surprise to say the least when i opened it up to make sure it was real wood. they're the type of speaker Carlos Santana is famous for playing...they go for around $150-200 used.their sensitivity is through the roof and they sound INCREDIBLE. these speakers with this cabinet construction = THE BEST 4x12 I HAVE EVER HEARD.

the cab has two bucket-style handles, (it weighs at least 150 pounds, you need one guy on each!) metal/rubber feet, front loaded with removable grill cloth with TRAYNOR logo near top, and one output jack in back. only reason i didn't give it a perfect 10 was because there's no parallel output, and no switchable impedance option. it would've been easy enough to do. i don't care personally..i wouldn't change a thing, just trying to be fari to the review.

Sound Quality : 10
it sounds INCREDIBLE....the factors for a good 4x12 are that it's real wood and not particle board crap, good speakers, and good dimensions. particle board absords sound inside the cab which would mean the sound coming out the front is not what it could be, real wood reflects the sound out of the cabine giving you more range and sweetnes from your speakers. i play rock n' roll, heavy metal, and clean instrumental stuff....i've used a JCM800 2203, a MESA BOOGIE S.O.B., and a FENDER TWIN, it all sounds great from this cab. i hope i never get rid of it.

Reliability : 10
this cab is 32 years old and it looks a lot better than most marshall 1960's i've seen. a few minor scuffs and scratches on the tolex, but that's the extent of it. you coud runthis cab over and it would sound good.
i read a true story about pete traynor proving the reliability of his products to someone...he threw an amp out of the 2nd story window down to the sidewalk below, picked it up and shook out the broken tube glass, put fresh tubes in, plugged in a cab and started playing. TRUST VINTAGE TRAYNOR PRODUCTS. they're hidden gems...affordable, sound great, and built like a brick sh*thouse.

Customer Support : 3
the folks at yorkville now-a-days seem a little dim, and i wouldn't trust any of their products after pete traynor left....i was told that these are the original speakers for this cab by customer service at yorkville.com, other than that they were useless. i sent them a 3 paragraph letter, what i got back was my letter with a "yes" or a "no" at the end of 1/2 of the questions. can't really blame them given i was asking about a 32 year old cabinet. but they didn't even try to help...and their new products are garbage, from what i can tell. if you stick with the vintage stuff though, it should work forever.

Overall Rating : 10
i've been rocking this cab for 2 1/2 years. and i love it more than any other cab i've owned...which includes a '73 marshall greenback 4x12, a '68 marshall 8x10 (model# 1990), and a '73 traynor 2x12.
don't get me wrong..all of these cabs sound great, but for different reasons. the TRAYNOR 4x12 is the one i'd save if my house burned down.
(that's actually wishful thinking, the marshall cabs are worth more money...i'd need that money to replace my other gear.)
if it was stolen though, i'd definately be pissed. i've only seen 2 others ever. one was empty.

I have no idea when this was made, the bassist in my old band got it off his grandfather, so I guess 60's or 70's. Well this thing is a speaker cabinet so it has jack for features, even less than a standard Marshall or Mesa cabinet. 1 input jack rated at 16 ohms, 300 watt power handling, no casters, silver grill, black tolex body, side handles, and straight front. I have no idea what kinda speakers are in it either.

Sound Quality : 9
I was using a Strat and now have other guitars, but the important thing with a speaker cabinet is what you're powering it with. If you're using a shitty head, then you're most likely to get a shitty tone. I powered this with a little power amp in my old band and it sounded good enough to get by, and just before we broke up, I got a 35 watt amp off my cousin and hooked it up to that, sounded much much better. Between that band and my new band (which I might add kicks ass) I bought a Marshall 4x12, you know the one, the one that almost everyone has. The singer/guitarist needed more power so I brought over the Traynor for him, he just needed a power source. It just so happens that our bassist (who supplied us with all of the vocal equipment) had a Traynor head that his dad didn't want. We hooked the two up, cleanest sound I've ever heard (he's using a Strat) and when he added his OD pedal, so smooth, yet crisp. I swear it was a tube amp, but it wasn't. The head was a perfect fit too.

Reliability : 9
Well it looks old, but it's a fighter. From all those years before I got it, all it had show was a few scratches. When I got it, all it needed was a good cleaning on the tolex. I used some kinda dash cleaner for cars and it sparkeled up really nice. I've never used it at gig nor did my friend in this band, stacks are too big for clubs.

Customer Support : No Opinion
I don't think they're in business anymore. Never needed to anyways.

I've been playing for about 5 years, and this thing actually belongs to my friend (singer/guitarist) Sounded so good clean and just amazing when he used Over Drive. I just had to write a review because of the clean sound that came out of it, I don't recall the type of Traynor head (maybe I should be writing a review on that too) I'll have to check next time we jam. I got rid of it 'cause I wanted Marshall, I really want Mesa/Boogie, but I can't afford their stuff right now. When I bought the Marshall I sized the two cabinets up, the Traynor was just a little taller, but get this, the Marshall had casters on and the Traynor didn't!! It was a great buy at the price I got it for, I'd just rather a Marshall or Mesa, because, well, you know.
