1969 Voice Master 4 Channel hand wired P.A. Head with two 4X12 vertical Traynor Cabs.
Very Versitile amp. Plug into one channel and play. Stays pretty clean even when cranked which is great. This amp gets to be fun with stero outputs on pedals. I have a Danelectro Reel Echo (or EH Memory Man) and I run the Dry signal into channel 1 and the delay signal into channel 2 and I can add just the amount I want. I've even used an A/B and maxed out all the channels with different effects, it's great fun.

Guitars Reverend Flatroc with Reverend Filtertrons (revtrons) Great guitar that sounds awesome through it. I also have a Tele, a steel guitar and bass I play through it.
I play rock, blues, folk It can get any sound you want. The clean is nice and smooth I wouldn't say it's "jangly" or "fender clean" but thats why you would buy a twin, and personally a twin is too loud for me (and most people). This is a PA head so the voicing I'm sure isn't exactly for guitar or bass or voice but on either or all of the three it works great. Sort of a mellow tone not barking at all.
Very Quiet in all set ups.

I bought this off a guy who had it in his basement years ago. I used it as a PA singing for our garage band and eventually got a modern PA. I put it away for a few years and pulled it out a while back totally forgetting what a gem this thing is. Sounds really good with a bass too, it gets alot of use as a bass amp in our jam room.
Super heavy and solid. I think I may have replaced the power tubes at one point. The only thing it needs is a grounded power cord which is a simple fix.

Traynor won't fix it, but a good tech will be able to. It's old style point to point wiring and very easy to repair.

I've been playing on and off for 10 years. I own a couple guitars and lots of odd ball Canadian made tube amps. Usually I'll sit around my room recording songs and this amp gets a fair amount of use.
I really think the old Traynor stuff is great. I would love another if it was stolen but probably wouldn't find one it's pretty rare especially with the matching speaker cabs. Very solid well made amp.
If you see one buy it!

I believe mine is a '67 Traynor Voicemaster. These amps are originally PA heads with 4 channels, switchable ohm selector and HUGE hammond output transformers. All tube 50W which seems underrated, Bass, Treble, Presence and that's about it, no midrange control. Has a Power amp in and power amp out for a poor man's effects loop. Wish it had switchable channels, but changing the plug in the back is not problem.

WOW! Excuse the cliche' but this is a poor man's Marshall! All hand wired, and I had it slightly modified by my buddy Jim McGee who makes brimstoneamps.com custom amps. Great amp also.. He changed the tubes to JJ E34L's (slightly different that EL34's and the power tubes were replace with new JJ 12AX7's. It's been re-capped and the knobs have been changed to 1 meg knobs. The tone stack has been modified to Marshall Plexi sound in the 3rd Channel (Angus Young Perfectly) and a little better JCM 800 in the 4th channel. (Very Zakk'ish, toolish with my ds-1) It has a GORGEOUS tone in the 1st and 2nd channels, very similar to a fender bassman, probably like a silverface. It sounds absolutely wonderful. Jim added a bright cap on the 1st channel which brightens up the tone slightly. I'm running a '95 strat stock pickups through a modded boss ds-1 (tube screamer'ish mod) and this amp is capable of producing a wide variety of tones which is what I love about it. I also have a "frankenstrat" type guitar with an emg 81 and it sounds brutal. It's a fantastic amp, and is my go-to amp for all situations. I wont give any amp a 10, just because nothing is perfect, but it comes super close to being a ten.

I sure hope that this amp never gets stolen, it's just that good. If you have any one of these lying around, I would recommend bringing it to your tech and have him work on it, but leaving it stock is also an excellent option as it sound incredible straight up. I love this amp!

This is a tube PA head, but I use it for guitar. The head is very basic (bass, treble, volume) and not much else, which is a good thing in my opinion, to many knobs just get in the way. The only thing I think this amp could use is some reverb so I added a spring reverb tank to mine.

The sound of this amp is truely amazing! It has a really dirty warm tone great for blues, classic rock, or even country, very Link Wray sounding. I have owened many marshalls and fenders over the years and this takes the cake.
I have also played bass through this amp and it sounds awesome as well.

I have had this amp for two years, I put new tubes in it when I got it and have not had a problem at all out of it. It looks ugly as hell due to its age but I'm really into old ugly looking stuff.

These are rare amps these days, if I saw another one i would snatch it up in a minute so I could have a back up. Amps just don't sound better than this. A true classic.

I saw the list and had to make a submission because no one mentioned MY Traynor head. It is a 50w 4-channel PA head (4 inputs, 4 volume, Treble, Bass, and Master. I repaired it for a store and someone had monkeyed around and put 6L6s in it and tried to rebias it. I took what I know of Traynor and the fact that pin 1 of the output tube sockets was grounded and guessed it was supposed to have EL34s. I put them in and rebiased and...WOW! A great little Marshall in disguise! I traded even for a silverface Bassman head I picked up a few years ago for $100 (US). It has no midrange control, though it would be a snap to install one. The 4 identical channels leave open massive opportunities for mods, though I left mine stock. The inputs are on the back which is a little odd, but saves space for all those volume controls on the front.

Like I said, a little Marshall! It of course likes Gibson-type guitars the best. I use a '68 Tele with a P-90. The Master circuit doesn't really do the low volume fuzz thing, but I like it wide open and a little TS-9. I play it in a punk-type band, and would say it would go anywhere you would want a Marshall sound. It hums a bit, but it has not had a cap job. It is bone stock except for a couple resistors in the bias supply. Keeping the channels not used on zero is key to minimizing noise.

I am giving it a 9 simply because I have only owned it for about 6 months, so I can't say it won't break down, but it obviously hasn't yet. Good tubes and you're good to go.

100 bucks for an old Marshall is a hell of a deal! I have other Marshalls that don't sound as Marshall as this head. I plug it into a Marshall 4-12 w/ Celestion Vintage 30s. A friend told me he heard great things about Traynor PA heads, and I see where it comes from. He had a 100W Custom Special that didn't sound nearly as cool. I think the simplicity of the PA head (no effects or wierd-o "expanders") is possibly the key to it's raw tone. Combined with quality construction and components, it's a killer. The best value I have encountered in 12+ years o' pickin'. Anyone have schematics? Comments? Feel free to email me.
