Bought in summer of 2004. I'm playing in a R'N'R band with since. Three different setting(4 with the bright switch). I very like the fact that it got 2x10''. Pretty convenient. 2 different EQ is pretty good compare to a more expensive Hot rod deluxe.

This amp is pretty much a rock, blues, rockabilly...but not metal. It`s mainly why I bought it. If you like a real tube amp sound, it`s for you. I don`t rely use the clean channel but it's very ''fenderish''. The reverb sound good for me. I mostly use a tele thinline 72 reissue , and it rocks. Went in studio 2 time with that amp and it sound very good each time. I recommend to swap tube for electro harmonix. Fits my needs.

It rocks, it's not a guay spandex metal queer maiden freak amp. The best sounding amp I had and I've been playing for 10 year. I've own marshall valvestate, fender twin, line 6(worst shit ever!), roland Jazz chorus 120 and this traynor kick all of those ass'S.

Bought this amp used with th JJ tube upgrade for $475... It is by far the best money spent for me in a while. It covers all the sounds that I need for the studio, including country, indie, and with the mids scooped and the right pedal, it even can take care of the harder stuff. The clean channel is brilliant and the overdrive is even better. It is built like a tank, and I would have no problem touring with it w/o a back-up. I am giving the features a 7 rating because of the lack of an effects loop attenuator.

Got rid of my previously owned HRD because it was too loud, too heavy, and now because it does not come close to this amp. This is the first time I have ever been inspired enough by a product to write a review. If you like versatile amps and require great tones, then you need to get this amp.

I play indie style rock, and this amp can get me Johnny Greenwood to Johnny Marr to Ryan Adams.. It is truly a work of art. It has brought my guitar practicing up to double then it was before, because it is so inspiring to play, and you can always easily dial in a great tone. For the street price for these you won't go wrong. Hell, I would probably buy another one at double the price...

Bought this amp new at East Village Music. I've had a Mesa Boogie Mark II which I traded for a fender Hot Rod Deville 4x10, which I then traded for this amp. I traded the Deville because although it did have a good clean channel sound, the drive wasn't something I liked, and using a big muff with the clean channel and a Silvertone semi hollow body, I could only hear lows and highs. This amp can achieve many different sounds, unlike other amps I've had. The eq's make a big difference, and I like the drive and high overdrive, and also can use the big muff thru the clean channel. The reverb is more usable then the Deville's for me since it gradually comes in, whereas just slightly turning the reverb on the deville totally immersed the sound in reverb.
I like how it has separate eq's for each channel, this is crucial. I am very happy with this amp, and also would like to say the Deville is a great amp, but the sound for me, and for my guitar just wasn't what I wanted. Also the fact that you can get so many different sounds out of this amp, and it is very quiet if hooked up to a good outlet (in new york we've had a few brown outs and this causes the amp to hum loudly, but now that power seems to be restored to my block, the amp is perfectly quiet, no hum on either channel or with the reverb).
I like how the stock tubes sound, and the drive, in addition to using a big muff, and maxon overdrive pedal also.
I play rock, funk, jazz and live hip hop (basically a mixture of rock, funk, and jazz with mc's:)

I use a silvertone semi hollow body made in '65. I definitely had to experiment a lot (and still do) with the different eq settings and different drive pedals, since the drive sounds very bassy and it's difficult to dial in a tight sounding crunch (for muted power chords for example) but can be done. Also I experiment with where and how I pick for different sounds, as this changes the sound immensely.
The clean sounds are very easy to dial in. I can get a trebly surf type guitar tone, a funk guitar tone with the middle pick up, also a blues type tone if I change where I pick the guitar, and the jazz sound is very easy to get using the rhythm pickup, and (for me) turning the presence down.
The distortion is not the super heavy type, so I got a big muff, and also use a maxon overdrive to push the distorted channel harder.
But it is great, the overdrive can be used for 60's/70's type riffs, chords, and just a little drive. So many different things you can do just with the guitar and amp. But I definitely needed to get some other distortion pedals to get a very heavy sound out of it.
The only thing I can desire is to get a more powerful bass sound out of the speaker, but this might be because I need to use 2x12, or maybe even a different speaker, the search continues.
Overall I love this amp, and can use it for so many different types of sounds.

I use this amp atleast 2x a week on live gigs, and even unmic'd playing with a loud drummer, this amp can be heard, but definitely has to be put on a chair. I haven't had any problems with the amp, and someone recently told me they have the same amp at a gig and also loved the amp.
I often have to wheel it around on a hand truck, on pavement, and even with all the bouncing around, it has no problems so far.

If this amp were stolen or lost, I honestly think I might try to buy another amp, if I liked it better (maybe a vox or ampeg?), but hopefully this will not occur (just being honest:). I do like this amp a lot though, and am very pleased with it.
For the price I haven't found anything that compares to this amp, and possibly getting a 2x12 cabinet could give me the bassier sounds that I also would like.

A standard issue Class A tube amp. It has separate three band EQ's for both channels, a footswitch, a brightness switch for chan. 2 (Clean) and a overdrive boost for chan. 1 (Dirty) and a presence & spring reverb knob.
Here's the direct manufacturer's page for the amp: http://www.yorkville.com/products.asp?type=71&cat=33&id=241

Channel 1 (Clean):
- Fenderish sparkle
- Vintage 30's aren't as bassy as their Seventy-Eighty counter parts found in the YCV40
- Great warmth and tone
- Sweet tones & punch really start to kick in at around 2+
- High's start to hurt when treb's and mid's are past 5
Channel 2 (Overdrive):
- Muddy and not as bright as channel 2
- Sounds farty even when bass is turned down
- Only sounds good when you boost the volume up to 3+
- Lacks the brightness switch
Overall, the amp is a very good tube amp. However, the pre-amp tubes could prolly use a model switch due to the fact that they sound really muddy and farty. Since I got this amp used, I got it serviced and re-tubed so it's pretty much in tip-top shape.

This amp was purchased used and according the Long & McQuade, this amp is roughly three years old. It was essentially purchased and owned for eight months before being put in the rentals floor where it was tossed around from guitarist to guitarist. And after all that, it has still pretty much held up quite nicely except for the grille comming a little loose in the top left corner. On top of that, I lugged around this amp to and from practice sessions for a little over two months before I got a practice amp and so it has taken its share of beatings.

A good overall tube amp. Very reliable and versatile. However, if you're looking for a bassier amp, you might want to look into Fender's Hot Rod amps or the YCV40.

This amp is a limited edition aniversary amp made in 2003. Basically identical to the YCV40WR except its got a signed screwed on "Peter Traynor" plast on the back and comes with an amp cover.
All tube 40 watt2- footswitchable channels (comes with footswitch, seperate channel, 1x12 celstion vintage 30 speaker, 2 6lG power tubes, 3 12ax7 preamp tubes, seperate channel EQ (treb, bass, mid), presence, reverb, volume and gain for dirty channel, volume for clean channel, parallel effects loops, extension cab output jack, auto-biasing.
I would liked to of had a master volume, record line out, silent recording (speaker mute).

I play a fender telecaster, and an SG. Both sound amazing through the amp. The clean on the tele is just amazing. The dirty channel is a bit weak on the tele, but can really drive on my SG. If yo have distortion pedals, thi amp is really versitile with the sound. The upgraded celestion vintage 30 speakers really make the amp sound much better than the normal ycv40. The dirty channel is smoother and not as harsh and the clean is much livelier. The amp is very very quiet in terms of noise, especially on the dirty channel.

Great versatile amp at a great price. Traynor's YCV series is definately one of the best kept secrets. Doesn't get too much exposure because its Canadian made, but in my opinion, its far better quality and make than Fenders and Marshalls. Especially for the price.

have had my ycv40 about a month or so , done about 6 gigs with it
you may find time based effects ok thru the effects loop, my yamaha
delays etc are much better thru loop, but the overdrive pedals sound
better to the amps input, this is a very versatile amp, its more at
home in the classic rock, bluesy styles, but no doubt can cover
heavier stuff with a few extra pedals.
i have owned fender and boogie amps , and the ycv40 is a great sounding amp at a very good price.
i would follow tips to change the tubes , but would need to be sure
a more expensive speaker would be an improvement , as the standard
speaker seems well matched .
just a comment re customer service , i saw a newer model with a metal
nameplate , and emailed mike holman at yorkville,he replied straight away , and within a couple of days had sent me a metal nameplate
free of charge (thanks mike ) all the way to australia.
i have never received such great response from any other company
i see this as genuine interest in customers and excellent p.r.
thanks again.

Strat, Tele, PRS CU22, PRS HBII, Gibson Howard Roberts, Gibson ES446, Danelectro 6/12, Tom Anderson Hollow T, Tom Anderson Drop Top.
Each guitar retains it's own character. I will replace the tubes to see what difference this makes. My only gripe is the clean channel could have some more headroom, however on the other side it starts to breakup kinda nice at 5. The vintage 30 gives the amp some extra whallop verses the speaker in the stock YCV40. This amp is very warm and all channels are nicely voiced, and the boost adds a nice lower end punch to leads. All in all pretty darn nice, and for the money quite a deal!

2003 Traynor YCV40A 40th anniversary limited edition (400 amp) signed by m.traynor himself, 2 channels clean/drive+boost, 40 watts provided by 2x6L6GC,spring reverb,FX loop, and 1 Vintage 30 celestion speaker...more info see yorkville web site.
the only feature id like to have will be Fx loop in/out on foot switchfor player like me who didnt use enough fx to have a foot controler
This amp enought versatile for me anywhere from folk/blues/alternative/rock for those who play punk or metal buy another amp or buy a distortion unit
I use this amp in studio(where i work)for practicing and for live..
enought power to use on stage unless you play with a very loud drummer and/or have hearing problem and/or need a really loud clean sound.
for myself its perfect, clean is loud enough and the breakup point (why i like tube amp) is reachable...nice compromise cause no amp can be perfect for every style of music or venue.

Actually I have two traynor (YCV40+YCV40A)
I play With a 70 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Gold top (fit w 2 hum),
A 79 fender strat (With a 59 on bridge), A 67 Gison ES-335, A 76 fender Telecaster and a Fender american re-issue 62".
The amp sound real nice with all the guitar except the 62 re-issue.
its all about match.
Perfect for my style, I use it for my own project (funk/rock)
I also use it for Rock cover band Kind of stuff and for folk shows.
The amp is really silent (compare with my Budda twinmaster) but after like 10 show you can hear some Hiss.. But its negligeable..
Really nice clean sound, not as clean as a fender twin, but its perfect, because for me. Clean Break up start around 4/5 depending of the guitar you use
the overdrive channel is really nice too, depending of taste, Ive played with mesa boogie V-Twin for years because Ide never find an amp with an overdrive tone that suit my needs.
Its sure the od channel may be a little less sweet than the v-twin when you play alone but with a band, the brighter/edgier sound of the traynor really help cut through the mix

I had like 10 show in the last two months and i never bring a backup amp.
One of my friend have one and play more than 100 shows with it (in the last two years) without briging a backup.
He only had 2 problems with it
-1:spring of the reverb break
-2:standby switch broke, its suppose to be a problem on the earlier series, now they fixed the problem.

I play music for more than 10 years, teaching music in school and working in a studio
Before i bought it, i compare with:
F-50/nomad mesa boogie, Fender hot rod deluxe and deluxe reverb re-issue, rivera 55-twelves.
At home id compare it with budda twinmaster, fender concert.
and i may repeat my self but now i have two traynor. I think it said enough...
Try one and see by yourself you may be suprised or disappointed

I had the YCV-40 for about a month. My complaint about the YCV-40 was only the lack of bass. You can't crank the YCV-40 with a lot of bass without the speaker starting to fart. Even the extension cab did'nt help. NOW this model have the famous VINTAGE 30 speaker witch add punch bass. The sound is just too warm! And now the distortion on this amp is even better, more define.
