Made in the early 70's, Normal Hi/Lo & Bass Hi/Lo channels solid state with new 15" speaker as the original was pitifully under sized and was burnt out within a week. Fewer knobs to twist is better in my book.

Sound Quality : 8
Used with an unbadged 2 pickup Teisco the amp sounds good and dirty turned up though I believe my Teisco adds most of the dirt. I prefer both channels Treble 10, Bass 0 and Volume set equal. Plug the guitar/bass into Normal Hi then use a short cord to patch Normal Lo to Bass Hi will give you that extra distortion you want. I wouldnt say a Marshall distortion but more of a cheap distortion pedal set halfway up sound, but unlike the pedals all the tone comes through. The best sound is with a bass, Treble 10, Bass 5, Volume's equal, cords patched the same way. I have an Ibanez TR 70 P/J pickup the J has the trebly thin sound but the P pickup... oh yeah, I've heard this sound from cranked Ampegs with various pedals and some classic rock groups but it's definately amazing. A mix of thump and growl that turns to practically heavy metal distortion with the occasional power chord, i.e. it'll turn heads.

Reliability : 8
I've only had one fault with the amp, the original speaker stamped u4100 burnt out when playing. If you get this amp with the original speaker you will have to replace it someday. Otherwise it's solid state and while the frame is a little road-weary as long as you dont treat it like a "Tolex Brick Peavey" amp it'll survive.

Do they even exist anymore?

Overall Rating : 10
I think it's a decent amp, I chose this over a Peavey Bandit because of the price and the overall fact that non-descript gear has more soul to it. I could've gone and dropped over $1000 on a new Fender Stratocaster and a Marshall Twin to play on but no, I have my $15 plywood garage sale Teisco pumping through a $65 Univox U4100 thrilling people in all sorts of basements, living rooms, garages and the occasional open mics.

Early 70's solid state amp. Says 100w, and it's adequate for playing along with a drummer in full band practice. 2 channels: Bass/Guitar and a Hi/Lo input for each side. No other features, but it doesn't really need anything beyond "Vol, Treble, and Bass". Compact size for having a 15" speaker is a HUGE plus. Just wish it had a closed speaker back. Also wish it had a direct out, but I've been spoiled by my G-K!

Sound Quality : 9
Good bass sound, haven't really cranked it up with a guitar yet. It would probably be ideal for keyboards as well! Playing in a rock back with two guitarists, the 15" speaker puts out a little more thump than the 2x10 Hartke cabinet I was using... Bass tone is pretty much solid state: clean, uncluttered, "straight".

Reliability : No Opinion
Just got it, but appears to have been unchanged since the early 70's. Only one fail point (a fuse!). Should keep going and going and going like the Energizer bunny!

N/A. Amp is old, but was able to find info on the web about it...

Overall Rating : 9
Portable, loud enough to gig with, and LOW price make this a steal! If you don't need any bells and whistles, this is it! I will probably replace the speaker with an EV or maybe a Peavey Black Widow since I'd like to get a lot of volume without cranking the amp to '8' all the time! The only other thing I wish it had is the bright orange "UNIVOX" logo I remeber seeing in my high school daze...

Solid state amp Made in the U.S.A. early 70's by the unicord co of new york (I think befor the Japanese owned the co.) 4 inputs 1-guitar hi, 1-guitar lo, 1-bass hi, 1-bass lo. 15" speaker heavy mag. vol, tone for both bass and guitar. Very basic Nice clean sound. I use it for my guitar and bass I think it sounds great It's a small compact combo that is light and easy to move (considering that it has a huge 15") Great for practicing bass and guitar can use the same amp. Back of amp says 100 watts, it gets loud but not that loud, It's not 100 watt tube amp loud, it also has to push a 15".

Sound Quality : 9
I have many guitars Vox Hurricane, DeArmond SS, Epiphone les paul, Danelectro dc59,-they all sound good. This amp lets the sound of your individual guitar come through. Also use a epiphone bass that also sounds good. Only gets distorted at very high vol.

Reliability : 6
I got the amp really cheap from this guy who was trying to cheat me, he told me it worked fine, but it didnt. Easy problem to fix, I opened it up and noticed the power switch wire was touching anothe causing it to short out. For what ever reason someone had cut the speaker wire and used wire nuts to reconnect and that has caused me some connection problems. Other than that the amp has been very reliable for 3yrs.

Great amp! I would get another if I had to. You can get them relatively cheap (and mine super cheap,as discussed above) One of the most versital amps I've seen. Guitar bass keyboard it does it all! Hook op another amp, pedals, preamp etc.. and you got a powerful amp with any sound you want.

This is an old solid state Bass/keyboard amp. Two channels with treble and bass on each channel. Has one fifteen inch speaker. I have no idea what the wattage is, but it was loud enough to play bass in fairly large venues, like a large school gymnasium.

Sound Quality : No Opinion
To me the bass channel is too muddy. The normal/keyboard channel is about right for bass guitar.

This one's from '72, so it's 25 years young and still going. Never even had to replace the fuse.

This one is the SECOND one I've had. The first one got sold years ago. I got this one in about 81'ish from the first owner, a keyboard player. These days it's only used for practice, but represents a good value for someone starting out, or someone who just doesn't have a lot of money to spend on an amp. I've seen 'em around for about $75 used, and for that price, they're worth it.
