made mid-60's, the knobs are simple. 1 channel. does have reverb & trem.; trem. does not work. reverb sounds pretty cool. 12 inch jensen(which i believe is the original; and really helps it sing. tubes are: 2-12ax7,2-6aq5a,1-6ca4 rectifier tube, 1-6av6,1-6an8a, 1-6au6a. amp fit my style quite well. I believe with this amp one could(with the help footpetals, which this amp is very friendly) get just about any sound you'd want. i use this amp at home only.

Sound Quality : 10
tubes that came with the amp are origional, i think, their iec's which are really mullards with the iec logo. after replacing two capasitor and installing a grounded cord, this amp rocks. at lower levels sound is creamy smooth bluesy tone. turn it up a little and it starts to distort nicely. sort of a british tone. kind of gritty. good for blues rock. i put a ibanez smash box distortion in front of it sometimes for more distortion; but just about don't need it. i played my friends usa tele thru it and it nailed blues rock to a tee. he wanted to buy it from me. i replaced the, seen their better days iec's with some nos rca's. now everything is a little brighter.

Reliability : 10
for a 40 year old amp that's only had two capasitors replaced and a grounded power cord added (anything more, i don't know). i'd have to say that this amps pretty realiable. this amp looks like it was well taken care of before i got it. i believe that i'll get many more years of tones out of this baby.

univox has been out of business for years. but after doin' some research on the internet, univox was sued because they were copying ampeg and gibson amps. so basically i'd have to say that a lot of the circuitry in univox amps are based on those great amps circuitry. though i'm far from a expert.

Overall Rating : 10
i have been playin on and off for a couple of years. i have two guitars, a jackson dkmg with turbo charger(which is just a small built in amp), a ibanez paul gilbert model. my amps are a marshall mg30 (killer little practice amp), a crate v-series 15 watter(what a rocker), and the univox. which is my favorite. i don't play this amp very loud, maybe at 4 or 5. but every time i'm finished my ears really ring. the tonal quility of this amp is exactly what i would think a high dollar name brand amp might sound. for what i use this amp for, i'd never really need another amp. if stolen i would definately try to get another univox. a diamond in the rough. i got a deal on this amp for $155 with shipping off ebay. i've spent as much on nos tubes($150 matched rca's) as i did on the amp. this is not a hardcore metal amp(although its crunches pretty good with my distortion petal in front). but, it will cover just about anything eles you play.

I think this amp was made in the mid '60s, you can check www.univox.org for more details. The knobs are simple: Volume, Tone, Reverb, Speed and Intensity. Three inputs and a bunch of tubes which were mostly original when I bought it, but I recently replaced with a bunch of NOS tubes. The Tremolo didn't work in the beginning and still hasn't, but that seems to be common with a lot of these old Univox's.

Sound Quality : 8
I mostly run my telecasters through it and that's been perfect for the tinny british sound that this amp produces. Crank it up and it throughly crunches. For a small box, this thing goes from creamy smooth to blues rock dirty with a flick of the wrist. One beauty with the amp is the luscious reverb it produces. If I played more surf rock, it would be perfect, but it fits nicely with some random jazz chords or bright clean channel pop.

Reliability : 4
Since it's fairly old and I treat it like my firstborn (it was my first tube amp actually) I don't gig with it. I have let others rip it in the studio and they've loved it. That's as far as I want to go with this pristine beauty. As with any old tube amp, you get some wicked ground problems and noise here and there, but that's very sporatic.

univox.org is about the only source to find any info on their equipment. The company has been out of biz for years, but you can find their stuff on stages everywhere.

I picked up this amp at a pawn shop with the price tag at over $175. Out of curiousity, I plugged it in and started to play it, but it didn't light up. The owner inspected it and gave me the option of buying it on the spot (DOA) or he'd get it repaired (God knows when). I took the former option after noticing the fuse was missing. After I laid 50 bones on the counter and made a trip to Radio Shack, I had one of the smoothest sounding amps I've ever run across. Still haven't gotten the tremolo fixed, but it still sounds like a million bucks. I'd get another one in a heartbeat.
