VERY SIMPLE. Manufactured in 1968 after Univox switched production from the U.S.A. to Japan I believe. It's the big brother to the U-45 in that it's rated at 5 watts more. Inputs for guitar, accordian, auxillary, and footswitch for the tremelo. Volume, tone and tremolo speed control. On /off switch and square red pilot light. It's rated at 15 watts but let me tell ya, this little monster is freakin loud. The only thing I wish the amp had is a line out to an extension cab. To me it's the perfect amp, small loud and incredibly toneful. All Atlas capacitors, all Toshiba tubes; 2 x 6BM8, 1 x 12AX7 and 1 x 6X4 rectifier. When I received the amp it had the stock Jensen 12" with a tiny ceramic magnet. I switched it out for a 1967 Rola with a magnet three times the size and it made a huge difference in volume, tone and sustain. I don't need or want a lot of flashy features, I want tone and it delivers in spades. I found her on eBay. The description and pics were not very clear and it was just what I'd been looking for. Sometimes you just step in it.

I'm using a Fat Telecaster with a Vintage Noiseless in the bridge and the stock humbucker in the neck position. The amp just howls with sustain to beat the band. It'll do clean and it'll do a nasty overdrive. It plays very well to your pick attack and has unbelievable harmonic content. It suits my tastes perfect: rock, blues, R&B, punk. It makes me sound like a really good guitar player, thank God cause I need all the help I can get. This little Univox sounds better than almost every ultra-pricey boutique tube amp on the market and did I mention it's LOUD. SUSTAIN, SUSTAIN, SUSTAIN and it'll even do feedback if your nice to it.

Hard for me to say, I've had it for three days. But it was made in 1968, it's had no work done and has the original tubes-that speaks for itself.

No Opinion
There is none. Do the work yourself or get to know a good tech. It's an extremely simple chassis and that's probably why it sounds so good killer. Get the schematic and build one if you can't find one.

I've been playing for 40 years but primarily bass. I own a Vox AC50 head and cabinet with celestion blues, a Vox Westminster cabinet with a 18" Goodmans speaker (power it with the AC50 head), the Fat Tele, a Harmony H-22 hollow body bass and a Silvertone U-1 dolphin head bass. I'm basically a retro freak that's always looking for playability and tone in my arsenal and I'm real happy at the moment with my gear. If this Univox was lost or stolen I'd freak then look for another till the day I die, it's that good. The tone and sustain is superb. You know the feeling when you first drive a really well made car, that's the feeling, this thing has got it, this is how all those other guitar players sound so good. The only thing that would make it more usable, is the line-out for another cab. You could easily play small to mid-size clubs with this baby and there's always mikin it. Do yourself a favor, find one of these amps and then you'll know what I'm talking about. I thought I'd never write a review in this forum, but the AMP MADE ME DO IT. Find and buy one of these, money should not be an object here. Check out this page from the Univox pages; www.univox.org/pics/catalogs/1968_amps1.jpg
