Simple 2 input, volume, treble, bass controls. No reverb, or tremlo. Has speaker jack so you can use another cab, or use the speaker separately. Nothing fancy just what you need, tone controls are very workable. Volume knob increases the gain quickly from 1 - 3 and not much change from there on. 6v6 and 12AX7 are not that well suited for each other, delivers too much preamp gain to the 6v6. HOWEVER, the amp came to life with a 12AT7 or 5751 preamp tube, making the volume knob more workable too. Also, the stock 10" speaker is a little dark and undefined sounding, replace it with a Weber VST or Celestion, wow much better! Sounds like all the Class A sparkle you love.

As stated above, with slight modifications this amp sounds incredible. The 6v6 has a growl that people like. Change that 12AX7 and the speaker and this will be your favorite amp.

Check the caps as this is an older amp and may need replacing. Never had any issues, well built, kinda heavy for its size.

I have several custom amp heads, a 1949 champ, a VOX ac-15 etc, but I like to play this one the most for when I just want to fool around or record something quick. Its small and chimey.

single 6v6 run in class A. wonderful. 1 preamp tube. nice old blues and a cool recording/practice amp. champish. it's got a simple layout, almost no contrals and is in a durable cabinet. works great. slam it with a SHO or clean boost and it's a greeat little rocker.

it's a practice/recording amp. 5 watts. with a booist, it can get good an edgy for a champ like sound. what's the speaker? 8"? better than a fender champ's. that distortion thing is a joke. forget about it. it's a simple amp for taking on the road for light jams or practice or recording. it's a fricking class a tube amp and if you can find one, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than a fender champ. for a $100? a 6v6 tube amp for < $100? scoop it idiot!

at $100 it's a steal. I like it better than the ub45 which sells for more but is about the same wattage. bit tighter sounding, less sag.

This is a mid 70's single channel Japanese tube guitar amp with separate bass and treble and 1 volume control. It also sports what may be the world's first direct recording output with it's own level control. This handy little feature is dubbed "unidrive" by the folks at Univox/Unicord and makes a giant difference in the utility of this amp. The other reviewer here incorrectly asserts that the unidrive circuit is connected after the output section and claims it can be used for headphones. Do not do this. The result may ruin your day. A quick look at the schematic reveals the unidrive as part of the preamp. It should be used for recording, connecting to a mixer, or to drive another amp etc....

This amp makes great classic rock and blues sounds and can do metal with the help of a stomp box. It will do clean but only at low volumes. As with all amps, it cleans up better with single coil pups. They did a fine job putting mine together as noise is not an issue at anytime.

Been playin' 25 years and own a truckload of gear. I've probably traded and sold another truckload in my time. I can safely say that this is one of my favorite pieces. I love the sound and the simplicity. Just crank it and go. It'll give ya the goods everytime. The only thing I would change about it is the speaker size. I favor larger ones and this amp benefits from the addition of a 12" or 15" speaker. Heck, I've tried it with a 4x10 and it even kicks with that.

ULM-6 amp. Has "STAGE" logo on front. Made in Japan in late 70's. 2 tubes - one 12AX7 and one 6V6GT. 6 watts. One 10" speaker. 4 knobs - Volume, Bass, Treble, and Unidrive.
The circuit is essentialy a Fender Champ with a solid state rectifier and a 16 ohm speaker.
The Unidrive circuit consists of a knob and an output jack. The unidrive actually is wired to the speaker jack and has a pot (one of the knobs) and a resistor circuit to attenuate the output. The attenuated output can be used as an input for a mix board, an amplifier, headphones, etc. The speaker is not noticably attenuated when the unidrive is used.

I bought this amp as a practice amp. When I first used it, it sounded TERRIBLE! The speaker looked in great condition but it sounded "farty" when distorted at with the volume higher than 5. I pulled it apart, checked the components for leaky caps, cold solder joints, etc. The inside looked like new! I called Joe Scinta at VintageSpeaker.com and asked him about a speaker. With Joe's recommendation, I ordered a Jensen P10R. Now it sounds great. The speaker made all the difference. It sounds as good as a 12" x 15" x 7" particle board box covered with black tolex containing a 10" speaker and amp with tubes can sound.
The distortion starts to happen with the volume knob at 3. It goes from blues to classic rock but not metal. Sometimes I throw a Tubescreamer in front of it. That increases the fun level a notch or two. The treble and bass controls actually do some good tone shaping.
I have a Strat clone, an ibanez RG with Carvin Holdsworth humbuckers and a Steinberger with EMG Select pickups. It works well with all of the pickups.
I used the unidrive circuit by plugging from the Unidrive jack to my blues junior. The Blues Junior and ULM-6 together sounded METAL when cranked. I was able to get some freakishly high gain and astonishingly enormous sustain. Really cool. But, I would guess that extended use in that configuration might eventually do ugly things to my blues junior. A tubescreamer in front of the ULM-6 really shines.

It sounds great for practice but I wouldn't use it for a gig unless my Blues Junior became incapacitated. It still has the "shocking" non-UL plug. When I opened it up, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of workmanship and components when I took it apart.
The Tolex is not very thick but it looks near new with no noticeable cuts. The hardware is really good quality.

This is a fun little amp. With the change out of the speaker, I have about $130 into it. I consider it a reasonable price. I also had fun tweaking it and making it sound "Like a Champ." If I didn't change out the speaker, I would have sold this amp. It really sounded terrible when I got it. It really makes great tone and has really good bass for such a small box. I'll probably do the "ground plug" mod to it.
If the speaker that was in the amp when I got it was the OEM speaker, then this amp was destined to fail as product. Changing the speaker made all the difference. It is now a keeper.
