Product: Vase Bassman 120 Head
Price Paid: AU 150 USED
Submitted 09/05/2006 at 05:05am by Rauli Wise

Features : 7
120 Watt head with 4 Power Tubes (6550 iirc)
4x12" Speaker Box
3 channels: Guitar, Bass, Organ.

I bought this from a neighbour who was moving house and only paid AU$150 for it.
Neither of us know what year it was made in, but we assume it was made in England in the 70's.

Great features for an old amp (multi channel, decent EQ, boost EQ band.

I've only played a guitar through it.

Sound Quality : 10
The first thing i noticed is its power.
120 Watts of old school valve power really blows you away.
Too loud for most situations...

Fanastic vintage tube amp sound. Fat and chunky, especially in the bass input.
The EQs work great too, its not hard to get a decent sound quickly. Keep in mind this is from the 70's, if you want more EQ control get a 7 band EQ pedal.

I tried my guitar in all the inputs, but the bass input is my favourite.

Using it as a slave for my Marshall/Mesaboogie amp/speaker combo sounds too sweet for words. Nothing beats more speakers, you can never have enough.

I feel bad playing metal through such an old amp though... but it sounds wicked.

Reliability : 10
This baby had been neglected. When i pulled off the covers i found wasp and spider nests inside, not to mention years if Australian red dust.
It hummed pretty loudly at higher volume, and the pots were scratchy. One of the speakers in the quad box was starting to break up.

Someone had already rewired it inside the speaker cab.

I'd say all it needs was a good service, it still works fine anyway. More than 30 years on... i'd say it's dependable.

Customer Support : No Opinion
Good luck, in all my searching i found old mate's review here, that's it.

If you need help with servicing this amp take it to a reputable tube amp servicing company and let them work it out.

Overall Rating : 10
IF you can find one, and if it still works, grab it. They are an awesome addition to any setup.

All i can say is fat tone that's loud. It will be too loud for most people. I hope you live in the middle of nowhere.

Be wary of the costs to get a shit one serviced tho. You will pay more for the service than what you paid for the amp. As such i kept mine for a year, then sold it off.

I do regret selling this antique amp.

If anyone can tell me anything about this amp or manufacturer I would love to hear it. When were they made? Is it worth trying to fully restore and or modify?
