2007 PTP hand built 1965 Blackface Twin Reverb. Top notch components. Mecury Magnetics, Accutronics tank, Groove Tubes, Weber Califonria 12" speakers, Mojo Pine cabinet, Blond Tolex/Oxblood Grill, cream chicken head knobs. Typical Fender style non-master volume 80W two channel amp with reverb & vibrato.
I bought this amp & a Germino HR-100W Plexi to replace a channel switching amp setup. This Vintage Sound Twin is for clean (Fender twang, jazz & slightly overdriven tones) and it works perfectly for my intended use.

I use this with both a Shur Classic Strat & Classic Tele. Also Roger Sadowsky's Semi hollow & Jim Hall 16" hollow body models, both with regular output humbuckers. All of these guitars sound wonderful. Everything from country twang, rockabilly, jazz, fusion, to a SRV type break up.
This amp is not noisy at all & takes pedals extremely well. All controls work perfectly with a very useful range of adjustment. The amp is very smooth & goes into a nice breakup around 6 on the volume. You can get whatever you want from there with the guitars volume control. The Weber speakers sound very good right out of the box. They are rated at 60W each, so they take a bit of break in time but well worth it. They get smoother, better definition in the bass & very detailed and articulate. They throw a huge sound stage.

I've had the amp now for almost 6 months. I had a bad preamp tube when I first got it. Replaced some of the GT 12AX7's with Electro Harmonix & preferred the sound a bit more. Eventually I might try some NOS tubes but the amps sounds so good just the way it is I'm in no hurry. Thats it, no other issues. The amp came packed extremely well. I would gig without a backup but alway have extra tubes on hand.

Rick is the best. This is my first Fender type amp (always been a Marshall style guy before) so I had a LOT of questions. Rick answered all of my questions and walked me thru some of the options he offered. Rick took the time to send me updates on the build with pictures which was great. I'm thinking of purchasing Rick's version of a Deluxe or Princeton as well for home practice.

I've been playing for 35 years. It's evolved to just about all styles of music. Tone is everything for me. If it doesn't sound & feel good it's very hard to get inspired to write & play music.
I just dumped a complicated WET/DRY/WET multi channel amp MIDI setup in favor of getting back to basics and true tone. I needed a great tube clean amp for the clean part of my rig & this fit my needs perfectly! There is absolutely nothing I would change about this amp.
I've given up on large big name company's like Marshall, Fender, Celestion, etc. I am not impressed with their reissue products at all. Almost all of the people that started those companies & had passion for what they made are long gone.
I've turned to the one man PTP hand made amp shops here in the USA. These guy's like Rick at Vintage Sound & Greg at Germino amps have a true passion for what they build & care about the quality of the product their name goes on. It shows, but more importantly you can hear it!

Vintagesoundamps Blackface Recreation Twin Reverb built April 2007.
PTP AB763 circuit,.... W/- Weber California 12" speakers w/- paper cone, sprague orange drop tone caps, sprague blue atom filter caps, tremolo mod, new faceplate, mojo cabinet, Ruby tubes and mine also has new mercury magnetics transformers and choke.
I play all styles over the course of a gig and like the twin as its a nice warm clean platform with plenty of headroom which I use various pedals into the front end to get the required sounds. Even though a twin reverb is essentially a 2 channel amp i use it as many do by plugging into the reverb/tremolo channel. It definitely has enough power to use in any size gig.

I really like these speakers chosen for this amp...In combination with this amp its extremely warm with lots of bottom end that stays really tight. The speakers seem to be really efficient but at the same time if you jump on a stomp box for a solo they seem pretty happy to give in to it as well...great combination.
I also like how the tone and volume controls seem to be very linear and gradual all the way.
The tremolo mod is a great inclusion in that you can switch the tremolo out of the circuit as it uses power even when the tremolo is switched off at the footswitch..Its a noticeable lift in fattness and clarity when its switched out of the circuit.
The last 3-4 gigs I have been using my Tokai Breezysound Tele w/- Fred Stuart Blackguard pickups and its been every bit the fender sound i've been missing for years while using boogies..
It is dead silent also , so I can only assume the build quality and components are spot on as I've had no need to get inside it as yet.
I haven't experimented with other tubes as yet but am pretty happy with what Rick has chosen for this amp. They sound pretty sweet to my ear.

I generally don't take backup amps ...I was keen on using a twin again but wasn't keen on the possibility of reliability issues with an older fender or the newer PCB fender 65twin reissue .
This VintageSoundAmps Twin being basically a brand new PTP blackface twin reverb gives me confidence that it quite possibly won't let me down and also the ease of service and repair to PTP if it ever does stop for some reason...and as yet I've had no issues at all

There wasn't a chance I could hear the amp first hand and had phone conversations with the owner and various email's to Rick Haye's at vintagesoundamps who built it and was confident that it was worthwhile taking the gamble...and I'm sure glad i did. Rick seems very helpful and any emails of question i had we're answered quickly..
It also has a 5 year warranty.

I've been playing for 25 years and in that time I have had brands of amps such as Peavey, Fender, Marshall, Seymour Duncan, Yamaha, Mesa boogie and I've been trying to arrive back to the sound of my non-master volume fender silverface twin reverb that I shouldn't have sold all those years ago.. But alas this Blackface recreation of Rick's surpasses my old fender..I won't stupidly sell this one thats for sure..In fact I think my amp buying days are over..As I love the ease and simplicity of dialing in a sound with these amps , no more push/pull, switch this turn that, pentode/triode, half /full power tube options....forget it..Just turn this on and its already there.
I did compare this to the fender 65 reissue which by the way is around the same price but to my ear the vintagesoundamps is so much better...tighter, fatter, warmer .

I believe that this amp was made in November of 2005, however the chassis and transformers came from a "Silverface" 1970 Twin reverb. This is a fabulous amp! It is clean, clean, CLEAN!! While it does not break up at all below 7 or so, it makes up for it by glassy clean chiming sweetness of tone beyond anything I've ever heard, and I've had alot of Twins over the years, and most of them had JBL's. This amp is so quiet as far as tube amp noises are concerned, you wonder if it's on. I play Country, both Traditional, and Classic, Soul, R&B, Blues, Lite Jazz, Variety, and some Classic Rock. This amp is the exact re-creation of the 65 Twin, so all the modern bells and whistles are, of course, left out. It does have the standard reverb, and tremelo, to include an original style footswitch, as per original 65 equipment. As far as features go, I wouldn't change a thing! If the hotshots out in Scottsdale heard one of these amps up against their best custom shop stuff, they'd go find a tall building, and jump! I am a pro player that gigs with this amp on a regular basis. I have not taken this amp on tour, but I will, as my main rig. This is the loudest Twin that I've had yet, but it's all sweet and pure glassy tube heaven!

I use Tele style guitars mainly. I play a Tradition Jerry Reid Pro guitar as my main working axe, with a Carvin as a backup. The Jerry Reid has a single coil in the bridge position, a hot rails in the middle slot, and a humbucker in the neck position. It has a 5 position switch, with coil taps for both humbuckers. The Carvin utilizes 2 humbuckers, a 5 position switch, and coil taps on both pickups. This amp is great for Country and Blues, Jazz, and anything else. If you need dirt, you can use literally any processor, or stomp box right through the front door with no trouble. The only noise you'll get is from whatever effects you're using. This amp will show you the error of your ways, if you have sloppy playing technique. If you want an amp to cover up sloppy playing, buy a Jones. This is a very quiet amp, for a tube amp. There are situations out there, that will cause you trouble with any tube amp. I've had quite a few "boutique" amps, and this is quieter and cleaner than any of them have ever been. Rick took a 1970 Silverface chassis, and removed everything but the transformers. He went back with the original Blackface Twin 763 setup,
point to point wired with cloth wrapped wire, and top of the line components, caps and filters. Completely redone...exactly like it came off the line in 65! They come with new "Ruby Tubes," a new fingerjointed pine cabinet by Mojo, and Weber California (JBL Clone) speakers. Even has an original style black footswitch for the reverb and tremelo. This thing has more chime than the final inspection table at a crystal glass factory! I can't stand it loud enough to get this amp to break up!

This thing is tough as nails...built that way by Rick Hayes. I would take it anywhere with confidence. Due to the fact that it's got tubes, I will always have a backup with me, but I have absolute confidence in the amp itself, and the knowledge and expertise of the builder.

Rick Hayes is unbelievably friendly, and helpful. He backs up his amps...even when you buy a used one from someone else. I know! I bought this amp on e-bay; the original owner claimed that it was perfect. It got here with an issue. Rick walked me through the paces to determine the exact nature of the trouble, and once we were sure what it was, he told me what to do, and even sent me boxes to return the speakers to the manufacturer for service. He then personally dealt with the manufacturer , and got me taken care of right the first time, and fast! He treated me better than I have ever been treated by any builder, manufacturer, rep., or dealer I have EVER dealt with. He continues to be kind and prompt to answer any questions that I have. He almost always responds to my e-mails within an hour or two. Everyone in this business could take a lesson on honesty, sincerity, kind, thoughtful service, and couresy from Rick Hayes and Vintage Sound Amps!

I have been playing 47 years...Pro for 40, touring Pro for 35. I own and have owned the following brands of guitars, amps, sound equipment, and effects: Gibson, Fender, Ken Smith, Sadowsky, JBL, Tom Anderson, Guild, Gretch, Martin, Taylor, Marshall, Ampeg, Matchless, Vox, Hammond, Jones, Peavey, SWR, Demeter, Acme, Stewart-World, Crown, Yamaha, Evantide, Lexicon, Boss, DigiTech, and more.
If this amp ever turns up missing, the first thing that I'll do is call Rick at Vintage Sound, and have him start building me another one. I'm probably going to have him make me one of his Silverface to Blackface Super conversions as well. His stuff is priced about the same as Fender's re-issue stuff, and performs beyond anyone's custom shop level.
I love everything about this amp. The only thing that I hate about the amp is the weight, and it's actually lighter than the original...(due to the fingerjointed Pine cabinet by Mojo.) These amps weigh alot. No great amp is light.
There is nothing to compare this with if you want true, original Twin Reverb sound. NOTHING! I've owned the original 65 Twin Reverb, and it didn't sound this good.
